Feadship’s New 246-Foot Superyacht Has a Design Sharp Enough to Slice Through the Water

With a simple but dramatic exterior defined by sharp, angular lines, compressed space between the decks and a razor-like bow, Feadship ’s new 246-foot creation presented little challenge when it came to a moniker. At launch, the owner made a point of its profile by naming the yacht Arrow .

“She’s a trailblazer, with a cutting-edge design that is very much the face of this period of the 21st century,” noted Feadship director Henk de Vries during the christening. “She is also an exceptional family yacht, quite possibly the best we have ever completed.”

London-based H2 Yacht Design paid particular attention to details such as low glass railings, wide gangways and the hot tub with a custom mosaic pattern. Such granular consideration extends to the varnished teak furniture, which is elaborately accented and surrounded by backlit marble.

The owner, whose only previous watercraft was a 10-foot dinghy as a child, was clearly emotional upon delivery. “This is actually my first real boat,” he told the assembled guests. “I have, however, seen many other people’s superyachts and have to say that Arrow is the most beautiful and amazingly executed of them all.”

Jonny Horsfield, who led the H2 design process, wanted to create a “contemporary, fresh” profile. “The surfacing and shapes of the yacht are quite complex,” he says. “At the same time, it’s very clean and flowing. I’m a car designer by training, so proportions are important. We’re fortunate Arrow ’s owner didn’t want too much of a superstructure and didn’t push to use every square foot of the interior.”

The absence of the usual top deck also gave Horsfield and his team the latitude to create a sleek, uncluttered profile. “We’ve designed some accommodation hidden in the upper arch, so they can still use the upper deck,” he explains. “But it’s a more subtle design than you see on most yachts her size.”

Horsfield is also pleased with the name selected. “It suits the overall styling, especially the way the windows are shaped and move forward into the pointed hull,” he says. “We even created a logo for it that looks like an abstract arrowhead.” Although not confirmed as of press time, the superyacht is expected to debut to the public at the Monaco Grand Prix in May.

Her top speed is 17.5 kn, her cruising speed is 13.5 kn, and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 7300.0 nm at 12.0 kn, with power coming from two MTU diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 staterooms, with 19 crew members. She has a gross tonnage of 1890.0 GT and a 12.9 m beam.

She was designed by H2 Yacht Design , who also designed the interior. H2 Yacht Design has designed 27 yachts and designed the interior of 52 yachts for yachts above 24 metres.

The naval architecture was developed by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects , who has architected 105 other superyachts in the BOAT Pro database - she is built with a Teak deck, a Steel hull, and Aluminium superstructure.

ARROW is in the top 5% by LOA in the world. She is one of 120 motor yachts in the 70-80m size range, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her volume is 103.32 GT above the average.

The 75m (246') luxury motor yacht ARROW (Project 703) was built by the prestigious shipbuilder Feadship in the Netherlands. Her exterior and interior were developed by H2 Yacht Design led by Jonny Horsfield, while De Voogt Naval Architects worked on the yacht's naval architecture. M/Y ARROW was delivered in 2020 and accommodates up to 12 guests over six en-suite cabins, with a crew of 19 to ensure that everyone on board receives first-class service.

The ample lower deck swim platform connects with the beach club to make a large terrace beside the water. Two staircases join to the main deck aft, where there is a large social area of corner sofas and coffee tables for unwinding beneath the shade of the bridge deck overhang.

The bridge deck aft provide a large area for outdoor gatherings with sunbeds and curving seating along the stern that can be shaded by a canvas bimini. The foredeck has been left clear for a variety of uses, including outdoor exercise and use as a sunbathing and lounging space.

The sundeck is split into an aft section and forward section, with the former providing plenty of plush seating in the sunshine for large guest gatherings, with refreshments provided by the wet bar. The latter area is furnished with curving sofas and tables for casual alfresco dining from the barbeque grill. Two large sunbeds with a raised Jacuzzi in between fit into the forward section for guests to soak with sweeping views of the location.

The interiors by H2 Yacht Design are light, contemporary and refined, using a variety of textures and matte and gloss finishes. The beach club is one such space that guests will encounter when they step aboard, and within there is a wet bar with widescreen TV and plenty of plush white seating to rest out of the sun.

ARROW Specifications

Both the main deck salon combined with the formal dining area and the skylounge continue with the same styling, offering high quality entertainment and a layout for large groups and intimate conversations alike.

The sundeck interior contains the well-equipped gym and has warm honey tones and large windows down the length of both sides of the room. There is easy access forward and aft through glass sliding doors, and all decks are easily accessible using the lift (elevator).

Yacht Accommodation

The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 12 guests over 6 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 3 double cabins (1 with extra pullman) and 1 twin cabin convertible to a double with the addition of a Pullman berth. ~ The Master suite is placed on the main deck forward to take advantage of the full beam, while the VIP stateroom is placed on the upper deck. The rest of the guest accommodation is on the lower deck. ~ The expert crew of 19 will provide first-class service to everyone on board.

75m Feadship ARROW is packed with fun amenities, including a full-beam beach club that converts into a sea-level lounge in the evenings, an elevator, and a cinema with surround sound.

Launched in 2020, the ARROW motor yacht really raises the bar for multigenerational charters. Aside from her glass elevator that goes from the lower deck to the bridge, she’s got plenty of features to entertain everyone, from a massage room and bulging toy chest to a large sun deck with a gym, plus lots of space for lounging, and anchor stabilisers.

Interior Design & Engineering

The interior of the ARROW yacht is crafted by H2 Yacht Design. Thanks to glass bulwarks, her interior is flooded with light, and the main deck offers plenty of infinity views of the seascape.

12 guests are accommodated in six cabins during an Arrow yacht charter. The master lies forward on the main deck, with floor-to-ceiling windows on either side and an office. The ensuite bathroom includes a luxurious spa bathtub with his and hers sinks and showers. The rest of the party will sleep across a VIP suite, three doubles and two twins.

This luxury superyacht’s interior boasts a lavish lounge in the main salon that exhibits flourishes like varnished teak, backlit marble and curved seating. The dining room also seats 10 around a curved table for a more formal yet intimate setting.

Yacht facilities & Entertainment

One of the highlights of the ARROW yacht is her full-beam beach club. By day, it’s the perfect hub for enjoying her vast array of water toys. At night, it can be remodelled into a sea-level entertaining lounge. It’s also where you’ll find the steam shower and massage room for essential pampering.

Other popular facilities include her onboard cinema with surround sound and a plush sofa for viewing in maximum comfort, a bridge deck sky lounge that opens to the aft terrace seamlessly, and an expansive sun deck with a Jacuzzi, sun pads, pizza oven, barbecue area, sit-up bar and a gym that can be open or enclosed.

A crew of 20 will ensure your ARROW yacht charter lives up to your expectations.

There’s a plethora of water toys for you to enjoy. Speed fans will enjoy toys like Jet Skis, E-foils, waterskis, wakeboards, and the wing and foil board, while those who prefer a slower paddle will be able to jump on a SUP or kayak.

Young and big kids alike will get hours of fun from the towable inflatables and toys like the sea pool or water trampoline. And if you’re aching to explore the underwater world, there’s snorkelling and scuba diving gear available to you.

With three tenders, it’ll be easy to hop ashore. You can even take the two E-Mountain Bikes with you to venture off the beaten track.

75m Feadship superyacht ARROW hits the water

Formerly known as Project 703, luxury yacht ARROW has been launched at Feadship's Aalsmeer shipyard.

This morning saw Feadship's 75m/246ft motor yacht ARROW hit the water for the first time, revealing her new name to onlookers in Aalsmeer. 

Following sea trials, the superyacht is due for delivery in 2020. She is one of five Feadship yachts on schedule to be delivered next year. 

The motor yacht features sleek and contemporary exterior styling from H2 Yacht Design, with a flared bow and plenty of curved lines.  The London-based studio has also helmed her interior. 

The yacht has a beam of 12.9 metres and her naval architecture comes courtesy of De Voogt. 

The Dutch yard has revealed very few details about their latest project and it is not yet known whether ARROW will be available for private yacht charters .

Autopsies show drowning as the cause of death for a US lawyer and wife in super yacht sinking

MILAN (AP) — Authorities say the first autopsies of victims of the Bayesian super yacht sinking off Sicily show drowning as the cause of death. U.S. lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda were among seven people who died when the Bayesian sank in a sudden, violent storm on Aug. 19. The autopsies were carried out by coroners designated by Palermo prosecutors, who confirmed the results Monday. Autopsies are planned Wednesday on the bodies of Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley’s London-based investment banking subsidiary, and his wife, Judy. They are pending for the remaining three victims, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch died of suffocation after running out of oxygen, an investigative source said, citing initial examinations carried out on Saturday after his body was recovered from the family yacht that sank off Sicily's coast last month.

Lynch, his daughter Hannah, 18, an onboard cook and four guests died when the British-flagged superyacht Bayesian sank during a severe and sudden weather event off the port of Porticello, near Palermo, on Aug. 19.

Initial results on Hannah Lynch's body, whose examinations were carried out on Saturday, were inconclusive, the source told Reuters, only ruling out any traumas or wounds as the cause of death and leaving open the possibilities she either ran out of oxygen or drowned.

The bodies of the dead, except for the cook, were found in cabins on the left-hand side of the 56-metre (184-feet) vessel, where the trapped passengers may have tried to search for remaining bubbles of air, the head of Palermo's Fire Brigade said last month.

Preliminary results from autopsies on four other victims - Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith, lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda - indicated suffocation as the likely cause of death, judicial sources said earlier this week.

Fifteen people survived, including Lynch's wife, whose company owned the Bayesian, and the yacht's captain.

Initial examinations of the Canadian-Antiguan onboard chef Recaldo Thomas indicated he died by drowning, the investigative source said on Saturday.

Further forensic tests have been ordered all the victims, with results expected in the coming weeks, the source said.

The sinking has puzzled naval experts, who said a vessel like the Bayesian, built by high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, which is owned by The Italian Sea Group, should have withstood the storm and not have sunk as quickly as it did.

Hewlett Packard won’t drop its UK claim against tech mogul Mike Lynch, who died when his yacht sank

LONDON (AP) — Hewlett Packard Enterprise said Monday it won’t drop its U.K. claim for damages against the estate of British tech mogul Mike Lynch , who was killed when his superyacht sank last month.

Britain’s High Court in 2022 ruled mostly in favor of the U.S. technology company, which accused Lynch and his former finance director of fraud over its $11 billion takeover of his software company Autonomy. Hewlett Packard is seeking up to $4 billion in damages and the judge is expected to issue a decision on the final sum soon.

Lynch died when his yacht, the Bayesian, sank in a storm off Sicily on Aug. 19. His widow, Angela Bacares, could now be liable for the damages.

Months before the sinking, Lynch was acquitted in a separate U.S. criminal trial of fraud and conspiracy charges in the deal.

Hewlett Packard initially celebrated the costly acquisition of Lynch’s company in 2011 but quickly came to regret it. The company said in a statement Monday that it had “substantially succeeded” in its civil fraud claims against Lynch and Sushovan Hussain, the former finance director.

“It is HPE’s intention to follow the proceedings through to their conclusion.”

However, the judge in the U.K. civil case has already ruled that the amount payable in damages would be “substantially less” than the company is seeking.

A spokesperson for Lynch’s family declined to comment.

Lynch and his daughter Hannah were among six passengers who died when 56-meter (184-foot) luxury yacht went down. One crew member, the boat’s chef, also died, while 15 people survived the disaster. They had gathered on the yacht to celebrate Lynch’s acquittal.

Officials initially said the yacht was struck by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout, but the weather phenomenon was re-identified as a downburst. Prosecutors in Italy are investigating the captain on possible charges including manslaughter.
