Trailer for Yacht Thriller 'Stowaway' with Ruby Rose & Frank Grillo
by Alex Billington July 21, 2022 Source: YouTube
"Push the red button." Yep that's all it takes to defeat them! Voltage Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a survival thriller titled Stowaway , formerly known as The Yacht . Both of these titles are bland and boring, neither really works. There was already this sci-fi survival thriller called Stowaway on Netflix a few years ago anyway. A tenacious party girl fights to survive after three thieves commandeer her luxury yacht. Described as similar to Die Hard or Panic Room but on a yacht. The indie film stars Ruby Rose , Frank Grillo , Emma Maddock , Patrick Schwarzenegger , Luis Da Silva Jr. , & Major Dodge . Aside from the trailer showing most of the film, including what the thieves are after, this is just a bad trailer. Why does every shot in this look so dark?! Everything on the boat is so poorly shot it's hard to see anything happening.
Here's the official trailer for Declan Whitebloom's Stowaway , direct from Voltage's YouTube :
The film is about a tenacious and troubled young woman who inherits a luxury yacht from her estranged father and has to fight to survive when it gets hijacked by thieves. Unable to escape and trapped on the yacht at high seas, the prey becomes the hunter as she turns the tables on the intruders and takes matters into her own hands. Stowaway , formerly known as just The Yacht , is directed by British filmmaker Declan Whitebloom , making his feature directorial debut after numerous music videos and short films previously. The screenplay is by Ian Hayden. Produced by Adam Beasley, Ford Corbett, Mike Dill, Michael Jefferson, Nathan Klingher, Jib Polhemus, Lowell Shapiro, Anthony Standberry, and Ryan Winterstern. Voltage Pics will debut Whitebloom's Stowaway streaming on AMC+ starting August 5th, 2022 this summer. Anyone?

A unique two-hander that pits a lost seaman against a disturbingly menacing yacht, The Boat certainly doesn’t shy away from challenging plotting, but whether it can persuade horror fans that it’s worth a look in an increasingly crowded marketplace will require some very persuasive marketing, at the very least.
Not far from the Maltese port of Valetta, a local fisherman (Joe Azzopardi) sets out in his small outboard-motor-powered boat for a day on the water. Soon, however, a heavy fog drifts in, obscuring the shoreline and leaving him completely disoriented. A sudden collision with a drifting sailboat convinces him that he’s found safety, but boarding and searching the yacht, he finds it deserted. When he returns topside, his boat has disappeared, trapping him aboard the luxury vessel. The 40-foot Aeolus proves well-equipped and -provisioned, so he tries to raise Valetta’s port on the marine radio, but can’t make contact.

A routine trip to the latrine turns into a claustrophobic nightmare when the door jams, trapping him inside for hours listening to the sound of the boat taking on water as a freighter passes by without hailing him. When he finally breaks the door down and finds himself in waist-deep seawater, he takes drastic measures to get the bilge pumps running. Exhausted, he retreats below deck and crashes out in one of the private berths, only to find the door locked when he wakes up. Convinced that someone, or something, is somehow in control of the boat, the fisherman desperately tries to escape the Aeolus , as the yacht powers through the waves, mysteriously locked on autopilot and headed directly into a gathering storm.
The central Mediterranean region surrounding Malta is rich in both folklore and classic mythology, where the demigod Aeolus was considered the “keeper of the winds” in Homer’s Odyssey . Whether such a similarly influential entity controls the sailboat and the fate of the fisherman remains unclear, or perhaps he’s been imprisoned by some sadistic manipulator controlling the vessel remotely. The final frames partially reveal the filmmakers’ perspective, but by then their rather forced narrative allusions have been squandered over the course of the film.
Director Winston Azzopardi clearly knows his way around a luxury yacht, skillfully shooting in tight quarters whether above or below decks, and even inserting some modest special effects. Pacing is not his strong suit, however, and the script, co-written with Joe Azzopardi, becomes repetitive and predictable as the plotting quickly comes up against the physical limitations of the sailboat’s layout.
With very few spoken lines, Joe Azzopardi’s physical demeanor effectively conveys the fisherman’s confusion and desperation, but the lack of any clear narrative resolution lends scant significance to the role.

10 Most Underrated Psychological Thrillers From The 2010s
11 best suspense movies on netflix, 8 best thriller tv shows of 2024.
- The ocean serves as the ultimate setting for suspenseful thriller movies, ranging from shark attacks to psychological encounters.
- Films like Dead Calm and Sea Fever showcase the ocean as a character, shifting from therapeutic to threatening.
- The Abyss and Jaws use the ocean's vastness to create tension, showcasing the fear and danger that lurks beneath the surface.
Throughout the years, the intimidating vastness of the ocean has captivated filmmakers and audiences alike. Its mystery and the creatures it holds (both fictional and real) help it serve as one of the most terrifying and suspenseful settings for some of the best thriller movies ever released.
These ever-present bodies of water help audiences explore from the best action movies to the worst claustrophobic nightmares. Shark attacks, pirating, or even psychologically-filled encounters all happen within the best thrillers that take place on the ocean.
The 2010s was an excellent time for psychological thrillers, and many incredible releases have fallen under the radar and deserve more attention.
10 Dead Calm (1989)
Sinking in suspense, dead calm (1989).
Dead Calm is a thriller directed by Phillip Noyce, starring Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill, and Billy Zane. The film follows a couple on a yacht trip who encounter a stranger and becomes embroiled in a tense struggle for survival on the open sea. As the suspense intensifies, they must navigate psychological and physical challenges to protect themselves.
After the tragic passing of their son, John and Rae Ingram decide to spend some time alone at sea. It is important to note the morphing role the ocean plays. It changes from being a therapeutic experience to becoming a threat when the characters become stranded. The vulnerability the ocean pulls out from them is truly amusing to see , and strange things happen when they save a stranger on a sinking schooner, making it even better.
Nicole Kidman took sailing lessons before the filming of Dead Calm . She actually piloted the yacht during the final storm scenes.
This isolated ship film works perfectly as it's a three-person-cast film. Nicole Kidman, Sam Neil, and Billy Zane's acting is remarkable in Dead Calm . The two boats depicted do make the film, as well as its very original setting. Seeing the ocean's roar sinking the schooner almost completely by the end has to go down as one of the best scenes in the genre.
9 Sea Fever (2019)
Parasites at sea, sea fever (2019).
Sea Fever, directed by Neasa Hardiman, is a sci-fi thriller set aboard an Irish fishing trawler where a marine biology student, played by Hermione Corfield, encounters a mysterious parasitic infection. The crew's struggle for survival tests their resilience and underscores the tension between scientific inquiry and instinctive fear.
Despite its small budget, Sea Fever narrates the events of fishers marooned in the sea. The problem? They have a parasite growing in their last bit of drinking water supply. It is way beyond just another basic, horrific film.
The setting for this film is extremely calculated. Water itself ends up playing a magnitude of important roles. From the vastness shown by the ship surrounded by miles of ocean water to the small visual elements showing how the contaminated water is infecting all the crew. The contrast generated between the fishers quarantining but also being trapped under the Irish ocean adds another layer of claustrophobia. Sea Fever creates an unsettling atmosphere while also showing the power and menace that water has.
8 Sphere (1998)
A well-rounded adventure, sphere (1998).
A spacecraft is discovered on the floor of the Pacific Ocean, presumed to be at least 300 years old and of alien origin. A crack team of scientists and experts is assembled and taken to the Habitat, a state-of-the-art underwater living environment, to investigate.
Based on Michael Crichton's book, Sphere explores a very defined set of characters uncovering a more than 300-year-abandoned ship. Often overseen compared to some of Samuel L. Jackson's best movies , Sphere does manage to shine a light on his character Dr. Harry Adams and his more cautious counterpart, Dr. Norman Goodman.
While the majority of films like to portray the ocean as this tremendous force, Sphere uses it as a representation of the unknown. This is one of the rare instances where we can see that the characters' descent into the ocean mirrors their descent into the unknown. At the same time, it also represents the psychological challenges they start to face. Scenes like them being underwater and talking to Jerry, an "alien", leaves viewers feeling claustrophobic and endangered like the characters themselves.
7 Below (2002)
Trapped together.
Documenting the fictional incident of a crew in the Atlantic Ocean in 1943, Below shows the mysterious happenings in a confined space. While the movie does contain jump scenes, its true terror lies in the way the producers cleverly combined two genres. This atmospheric ghost thriller mixes the concept of an underwater US Army submarine setting with a lot of historical context and an underlying ghost story.
In Below , it appears as if the USS Tiger Shark goes through the typical submarine movie problems. However, the cinematography used to reflect on the movie is what makes it special. The twists of the movie mixed with the cast never ending paranoia make it remarkable even to this day.
For subscribers seeking a thrilling experience, Netflix has a number of great suspense movies across a wide range of genres in its streaming library.
6 Captain Phillips (2013)
Based on a real nightmare, captain phillips.
Not available
Starring Tom Hanks, Captain Phillips tells the story of the titular captain whose cargo ship was hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009. A fictionalized version of real-life events, the film follows Captain Phillips and his crew as they fight for their lives against a group of Somali pirates led by Abduwali Muse. Besides Hanks, Barkhad Abdi and Catherine Keener also star.
Grossing more than $200 million against a budget of $55 million , Captain Phillips is one of the best movies set in the ocean. While it may not be one of Tom Hanks' most underrated movies , it still does not get the recognition it deserves. Captain Phillips , yet again, proves director Greengrass's thrillers are like no other.
Based on a true story surrounding the events of the 2009 MV Maersk's hijacking, Captain Phillips makes viewers experience the despair and desperation of being trapped in the middle of the ocean with no hope of rescue. The Somali crew, while not being widely recognized actors, stole the show. They made the movie so immersive that it was easy for viewers to forget it was just a movie.
5 Triangle (2009)
Lost in a sea of repetition.
This psychological thriller follows a group of friends stranded on a yacht in the Bermuda Triangle, where they board a passing ship only to experience terrifying temporal distortions and duplications of themselves.
Filled with fantasy, survival, and sci-fi moments, Triangle is an ocean-based film where a group of friends ends up on a yacht in the middle of the ever-scary western part of the North Atlantic Ocean. While the Bermuda Triangle itself is surrounded by urban legends and just an overall mystic aura, the movie does take this to its advantage. What seems at first like a typical slasher, blooms into a mind-bending mystery . Triangle is simply a rewarding experience.
Towards the end, it is evident that the ocean played a bigger role than just being intimidating like in other movies. It acts as a catalyst for the time loop and the strange events the characters go through. The ocean itself is what adds suspense in the film, both as an atmospheric element but also as a plot device.
4 The Old Man And The Sea (1958)
Just a fisherman in the ocean.
Often forgotten by most, The Old Man and the Sea is a movie whose focal point is just that: an old Cuban strayed for days, alone, on a boat. While at first, the premise can't sound like much, the lack of other locations helps the audience concentrate more on the details and symbolism behind it.
In the original The Old Man and the Sea book, the ocean is supposed to embody life and the individual's role in it, and directors John Struges and Fred Zinnemann delivered exactly that. While not as thriller-y as other ocean-based features, The Old Man and the Sea is not short of impactful moments. The wide shots of the never-ending ocean, the zooms into Santiago's hopeful face, and the panned-out views of the man alone on his boat, let the audience feel the vastness and isolation. However, moments like Santiago trying to catch the giant marlin make all the experience worth it.
3 The Abyss (1989)
Alien encounter in the deep.
The Abyss is James Cameron's fourth feature film and his second water-themed movie. Starring Ed Harris, Michael Biehn, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, the 1989 drama that revolves around a team of oil workers and Navy SEALs who face a mysterious alien race at the bottom of the ocean.
Winning the 1990 Oscar for Best Visual Effects, The Abyss is a movie that features one of the best special effects in a James Cameron movie . Unlike many other sea adventure thrillers, it has a sci-if element added and this can be remarked by how they cleverly played along with the concept of water itself.
In its first clips, the water is illustrated as something eerie, yet beautiful. This is a more character-driven film, and it can be observed that the deeper they got, so did the ocean's appearance. The scenes with water-manipulating aliens are what ultimately takes the cake. The images of the seawater tentacle converting into a face are timeless. Scenes like when the humans are reasoning with an alien under the water are still thought about even 35 years later.
The thriller genre improves with each passing year, and throughout 2024, several highly anticipated thriller TV shows are scheduled for release.
2 The Poseidon Adventure (1972)
Fly, you fools, the poseidon adventure.
The Poseidon Adventure is a disaster film directed by Ronald Neame. It follows a group of passengers as they struggle for survival after their luxury cruise ship capsizes in the open sea. Starring Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, and Shelley Winters, the film showcases their desperate journey to safety amidst perilous conditions. The Poseidon Adventure is based on Paul Gallico's novel and emphasizes themes of bravery and human resilience.
The Poseidon Adventure tells the story of a cruise ship that gets knocked over in the ocean. The movie's approach is more disaster-adventure. The ocean here is not seen as boundless or even mysterious like in other films, but as a wild, turbulent force in the form of a tsunami. Being released in 1972, they did not count on a lot of the visual effects or the virtual imagery that's available nowadays, so the fact that they could record that enormous wall of water so naturally makes it all the more astonishing.
The Poseidon Adventure was shot sequentially, capturing the actors' increasing injuries authentically.
The film opens with a tidal wave claiming hundreds of the passengers' lives, proving just how merciless it is. The few remaining people are trying to survive on the scraps of what the ship once was, is depressing. The attention to detail in scenes like the gigantic wave being seen through binoculars, the once-lively corridors flooding, and the ballroom getting flooded with water show how even the grandest of ships can be reduced to a mere shell of its former self in seconds.
1 Jaws (1975)
Fear the deep.
Steven Spielberg's legendary tale of one man's desperate battle with a killer Great White shark on his small seaside community. Faced with a mounting list of victims and a local authority dead-set against causing panic or destroying the tourist economy, he assembles a team to tackle the shark head-on.
Despite being released almost 50 years ago, Jaws still holds up to this day as one of Steven Spielberg's best movies with the most iconic moments . Even with its dated technology, the images captured of the endless, intimidating ocean that holds these ferocious creatures still roam through people's minds , even after so long. Its tension-packed scenes, like when Brody is feeding the fish and a massive shark's head suddenly appears beside him, became historical in the genre.
The 1979 TV broadcast of Jaws included extended scenes, such as a shark-hunting frenzy and additional dialogue that most people don't know about.
Being the first movie ever to gross more than one hundred million dollars, Jaws showed the general audience how terrifying the ocean as the setting can be. While the first half of the movie takes place on land, focusing more on fearmongering, the second half is an adventure in the depths of the ocean. Opening with scenes like Chrissie getting eaten, this movie is simply hypnotic, yet suspenseful from the start.

Everything We Know About the Final Moments of the Passengers Who Died in the Sicily Yacht Tragedy
Five of the seven victims had been "searching for air pockets" as the luxury yacht sank on Aug. 19, authorities said

The luxury yacht Bayesian that sank off the coast of Sicily on Monday, Aug. 19, resulted in the deaths of six passengers and one crew member.
Less than a week later, on Saturday, Aug. 24, Ambrogio Cartosio, the Chief Prosecutor of Termini Imerese, announced that Italian authorities were launching a manslaughter investigation into the sinking , and he identified all of the victims.
The seven victims who died in the tragic sinking were yacht chef Recaldo Thomas; British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter, Hannah Lynch; Christopher Morvillo and his wife, Neda ; and Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy .
As authorities attempt to answer questions about what exactly led to the sinking of the 183-foot British-flagged vessel — which went down during a "violent storm,” the Italian Coast Guard previously told PEOPLE in a statement — here is what we currently know about the victims’ final moments.
FAMILY HANDOUT/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock
During the Aug. 24 press conference, Girolamo Bentivoglio Fiandra, head of the Palermo Fire Brigade, revealed that as the Bayesian began going down early Monday morning, “It was quite clear that people were trying to hide in the cabins.”
“In the left-hand side, we found the first 5 bodies in the left-hand side cabins, and the final body on the right-hand side,” Fiandra said. “We found them on the highest part of the ship, which was closer to the surface. The vessel had three cabins on each side.”
The five victims, who "took refuge” on the luxury yacht’s left side, had been "searching for air pockets" in a final attempt at survival," he added.

As for why the victims were in the cabins in the first place, Giovanni Costantino — who leads The Italian Sea Group, the company that now owns Perini Navi, which built the Bayesian back in 2008 — told CNN it was due to a “very long sum of errors."
"Everything that has been done reveals a very long sum of errors,” he said in his interview, translated from Italian. “The people should not have been in the cabins, the boat should not have been at anchor. And then why didn't the crew know about the incoming disturbance?”

Prior to the storm and subsequent sinking, some of the luxury yacht’s passengers were in celebration mode. They had been commemorating the recent acquittal of one of the victims, Lynch, 59, a source close to the survivors previously told PEOPLE.
Two months ago, Lynch was acquitted on all counts of a series of fraud and conspiracy charges he faced in the U.S. after a years-long legal battle dating back to 2018.

He celebrated the acquittal on the Bayesian with his daughter and his wife, Angela Bacare, who was rescued along with 14 others on board.
Also celebrating were Morvillo, 59, who represented Lynch in the case, and Bloomer, 70, who was a close friend of the tech entrepreneur.

Five bodies found inside superyacht that sank off Sicily
PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers recovered four bodies Wednesday from inside a superyacht that sank in a sudden storm off Sicily , Salvatore Cocina, director of the island's Civil Protection Agency, confirmed to NBC News.
Cocina later confirmed to Sky News that a fifth body had been found and was being brought to shore. One passenger remains missing.
The identities of the bodies were not immediately released. Their recovery follows a dayslong search in the deep waters off Italy where British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and several others were believed to be trapped in the hull. Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived.
The rest had been missing since early Monday, when the Bayesian was caught in the storm anchored off the coast of Porticello, a village near the Sicilian capital city, Palermo.
The body of the ship’s cook, identified as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan national, was recovered Monday.
On Wednesday, NBC News witnessed what appeared to be at least three body bags being lifted from fire department boats after they pulled into port at Porticello. It was unclear whose bodies they were. Some were later transferred to ambulances and driven away from the dock.
Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda, are also missing.
The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was among the survivors rescued by a nearby vessel after they got into a lifeboat.
Built by the Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered yacht could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist boating sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.
Regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” Lynch was acquitted of fraud by a San Francisco jury this year, stemming from the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.
The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who brought Bloomer, who testified in his defense, and Morvillo, one of his U.S. lawyers, on the trip.
Lynch's co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain was not aboard the Bayesian, but in what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a car struck and killed him Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.
Claudio Lavanga and Claudia Rizzo reported from Porticello. Henry Austin reported from London.

Triangle of Sadness will be the third film in a row to be a Palme d'Or winner for Neon, following Titane and Parasite . The movie makes its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month before sailing into theaters on Oct 7. Watch the brand-new, excessively nauseating trailer below.
Director Ruben Östlund is Looking to Widen His Audience
Ruben Östlund is the filmmaker behind Triangle of Sadness , and he's had success in the industry before. However, until now, Östlund was prominent in European arthouse cinema, with foreign language films to his credit thus far. The director is making a big jump to a film primarily in English. The director wants to broaden his audience and bring his movies to a global scale while maintaining his initial fan base. He tells IndieWire , 'it's been very important to try to keep that audience and step it up, make it a little bit bigger, of course.'

"My intention was to shock the audience as much as I always want to shock the audience. But I was scared to lose my old audience. I was scared to lose the kind of connection I had built up with the distributors of the European arthouse cinema. It's been very important for me to try to keep that audience and step it up, make it a little bit bigger, of course."
Östlund is no stranger to the Palme d'Or either, as he's won in the past for his film The Square starring Elisabeth Moss . The movie received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year, proving that the director can consistently make great projects. Audiences are hoping for something just as hysterical when Triangle of Sadness lands in theaters later this year, on Oct 7.

Deep seas and tight spaces impede search for 6 missing after yacht sinks off Sicily
P ORTICELLO, Sicily (AP) — Police divers resumed searching Tuesday for six people believed trapped in the hull of a superyacht that sank in deep seas off Sicily, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch, who was celebrating his recent acquittal on fraud charges with the people who had defended him at trial.
The luxury sailboat, off Porticello near Palermo, was some 50 meters (164 feet) underwater — far deeper than most recreational divers are certified for and a depth that requires special precautions. Recovery crews could only stay for 12-minute shifts, a measure that slowed efforts to reach the cramped inside of the wreck.
Divers tag-teamed the shifts and were using a remote-controlled underwater vehicle, or ROV, to help in the search. They hadn't been able to access the below-deck cabins because they were blocked by furniture that shifted during the violent storm that struck the vessel early Monday. Rescue crews said they assume the missing six are in those cabins because the storm struck when most would be sleeping, but the teams haven’t verified their presence there through portholes.
The Bayesian, a 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, was moored about a kilometer (a half-mile) offshore when a storm rolled in before 4 a.m. Monday. Civil protection officials said they believed the ship was struck by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout, and sank quickly .
Grainy film from closed-circuit cameras from shore, broadcast on the website of the Giornale di Sicilia, showed the majestic, illuminated 75-meter (246-foot) mast of the Bayesian weathering the storm and then disappearing over the course of a minute.
Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived, including a mother who reported holding her 1-year-old baby over the waves to save her. One body was recovered, identified by officials as the Antiguan-born on-board chef. The rest of the 10-person crew survived, including the captain whom prosecutors reportedly sought to interview.
The survivors were rescued by a nearby sailboat after getting into a lifeboat.
Lynch, who was once hailed as Britain’s king of technology, was cleared in June of fraud and conspiracy charges in a U.S. federal trial related to Hewlett Packard’s $11 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp. His wife, Angela Bacares, survived the sinking. Hannah Lynch, the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, is reportedly unaccounted for.
Also unaccounted for are Christopher Morvillo, one of Lynch’s lawyers, and his wife, Neda; and Jonathan Bloomer, a chairman at Morgan Stanley International and the former head of the Autonomy audit committee who testified in Lynch’s defense, and his wife.
Karsten Borner, the captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell, which rescued the survivors, said he was close enough to see the Bayesian as the storm came in.
“A moment later, she was gone,” he said.
“It’s a great, great tragedy,” said Britain’s ambassador to Italy, Edward Llewellyn, who visited Porticello on Tuesday. Britain sent four investigators to the scene, given the disaster involved a British-flagged ship and British citizens were among the missing.
Luca Cari, a spokesman for the rescue teams, said the search was proceeding much more slowly than another big shipwreck in Italy, the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise ship that flipped on its side off Tuscany's coast, because of the depth of the wreck and the limited space divers have to maneuver.
“That was much simpler. Here everything is more tight," he said.
The outing was intended at least in part as a celebration of Lynch’s acquittal and a “looking forward to what was coming next,” said Reid Weingarten, a Washington attorney and a member of Lynch’s defense team who was not on the yacht.
“A lot of people went, a lot of people were planning to go and then, of course, this happened,” Weingarten said.
Weingarten worked with Morvillo and said he “was like a brother.”
Aki Hussain, CEO of international insurer Hiscox Group, where Bloomer was chairman, said the company was “deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event.”
“Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation,” he added.
Among the survivors, the Emslie family was released from Palermo's pediatric hospital on Tuesday. Charlotte Golunski had reported that she momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but then managed to hold her up over the waves until they were both pulled to safety, doctors said.
The father, identified by ANSA news agency as James Emslie, also survived.
“They don't talk much, primarily because they consider themselves survivors and they don't understand why they survived given what they went through,” said Dr. Domenico Cipolla, head of the emergency room at Di Cristina pediatric hospital.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Cipolla said the parents had been in touch with other survivors, who are being housed at a nearby hotel and were waiting for other family members to arrive in Sicily.
The Bayesian, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, is registered to Revtom Ltd., according to online maritime database Equasis. Bacares, Lynch's wife, is listed as Revtom's sole owner, according to corporate registration documents from the Isle of Man.
According to online charter companies, it had been available for charter for 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week and was notable for its massive 75-meter-tall (246-foot-tall) aluminum mast, one of the tallest in the world.
The coast guard said to date there was no trace of fuel leaks from the wreckage.
In an unrelated event, Lynch's co-defendant in the Autonomy trial who was also cleared, Stephen Chamberlain, was killed Sunday when he was hit by a car while running in Cambridgeshire, England, said Chamberlain's lawyer, Gary Lincenberg.
Winfield reported from Rome. Associated Press writers Eric Tucker in Washington, and Danica Kirka and Kelvin Chan in London, contributed.

Coastguard fears bodies of Mike Lynch and five others are trapped in yacht
By Neil Lancefield, PA, and Ted Hennessey, PA, in Sicily
Technology tycoon Mike Lynch, who has Irish family roots, and five others are feared to have died, with their bodies trapped inside a luxury yacht which sank in a tornado.
Vincenzo Zagarola of the Italian Coastguard said this was the working theory of officials on Sicily because it is believed the boat sank quickly and search and rescue efforts by sea and air have so far delivered no results.
He told the PA news agency: “We think they are still inside the boat, that is our very hard idea.
“Our search and rescue activity by sea and air has gone on for around 36 hours.
“Of course, we do not exclude that they are not inside the boat, but we know the boat sank quickly.
“We suppose that the six people missing may not have had time to get out of the boat.”
Asked about the likelihood of them being alive, he replied: “Never say never, but reasonably the answer should be not.”
Bayesian was moored around half-a-mile off the coast of Porticello when it sank at around 5am local time on Monday as the area was hit by a storm.

The missing tourists are: Mr Lynch; his daughter, Hannah Lynch; Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer; his wife, Judy Bloomer; Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo; and his wife, Neda Morvillo.
Mr Lynch's father was from Co Cork and his mother was from Co Tipperary.
Italy’s fire brigade Vigili del Fuoco said it is developing a plan to enter the wreckage of Bayesian, which is resting on the seabed off the coast at a depth of 50 metres.
It described the operation as “complex”, with divers limited to 12-minute underwater shifts.
Fifteen of the 22 passengers and crew onboard – including Mr Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares – were rescued after escaping onto a lifeboat.
On Tuesday, an inflated orange lifeboat was docked at the harbour near where search crews are being dispatched.
One body, reportedly belonging to the ship’s chef, was recovered at the scene of the sinking on Monday.
Mr Lynch, who founded software giant Autonomy in 1996, was cleared in June of conducting a massive fraud relating to an $11 billion sale to US company Hewlett Packard.
The boat trip was a celebration of his acquittal.
The Financial Times reported that Mr Bloomer appeared at trial as a defence witness for Mr Lynch, while media reports suggest the pair are close friends.
A spokesperson for Morgan Stanley said the bank was “shocked and saddened” while Clifford Chance said it was a “tragic incident”.
Ed Llewellyn, British ambassador to Italy, met some of the survivors of the sinking at a hotel.
He said: “I’ve spoken to some of the British survivors both yesterday and today – I want to express my deep sympathy from myself and colleagues at the British embassy for what’s happened.
“We’re doing what we can to support them in this incredibly sad and difficult situation to help them with contacts from the Italian authorities at a practical level.”
Mr Lynch’s co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain died after being hit by a car while out running in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.
In a statement released through Cambridgeshire Police, Mr Chamberlain’s family said: “Steve was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend.
“He was an amazing individual whose only goal in life was to help others in any way possible.”
Ayla Ronald, a New Zealand national working at Clifford Chance, survived the ordeal.
Her father Lin Ronald confirmed to the Telegraph she had been invited aboard as a thanks for assistance in Mr Lynch’s recent court case.
“I have texted my daughter and she hasn’t given me any updates about missing personnel or saved personnel. She has only said that there are deaths and she and her partner are alive,” he said.
“Ayla is a lawyer who is part of the legal team that were invited to go sailing as a result of the success in the recent United States court case.”
One of the survivors, British tourist Charlotte Emsley, told la Repubblica she held her one-year-old daughter, Sofia, to stop her from drowning.
Charlotte and Sofia were treated in hospital, as was Sofia’s father, James Emsley.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch said four of its inspectors have been deployed to Palermo.

6 missing after superyacht sank off Sicily, including tech magnate celebrating recent acquittal
PORTICELLO, Sicily (AP) — Police divers resumed searching Tuesday for six people believed trapped in the hull of a superyacht that sank in deep seas off Sicily, including a British tech magnate who was celebrating his recent acquittal on fraud charges with the people who had defended him at trial.
The resting place of their sailboat is some 50 meters (164 feet) underwater off Porticello — a depth that requires special precautions: Rescue crews said they were working in 12-minute shifts, a measure that slowed down their efforts to reach the cramped inside of the wreck.

Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived, including a mother who reported holding her 1-year-old baby over the waves to save her. One body has been recovered, identified by officials as the on-board chef.
Fire rescue officials have said the other six on board will be considered missing until they are located in the wreckage. They include the tycoon Mike Lynch, who was once hailed as Britain’s king of technology and was cleared in June of fraud and conspiracy charges in a U.S. federal trial related to Hewlett Packard’s $11 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp.

“A moment later, she was gone,” he said. “They said they went flat on the water and were sunk in two minutes,” Borner added, quoting the survivors.
The rotating search teams, each made up of two specialized cave divers, worked Tuesday to open up access points to get inside the wreck, which lies at a depth far beyond what most recreational divers are certified to reach.
The divers have not yet been able to access the below-deck cabins because they were blocked by furniture that had shifted during the violent storm. Rescue crews said they assume the missing six are in those cabins because the storm struck when most would be sleeping, but the teams haven’t verified their presence there through portholes.

Some of the people who stood by Lynch throughout the ordeal were on board, including Morvillo, the lawyer, who Weingarten worked with and said “was like a brother.”
Morvillo’s wife is also missing, according to his law firm Clifford Chance.
Aki Hussain, CEO of international insurer Hiscox Group, where Bloomer, the witness, was chairman, said the company was “deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event.”
“Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation,” he added.
Charlotte Golunski, who survived the disaster, said she momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter Sofia in the water, but then managed to hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety, Italian news agency ANSA reported.
The father, identified by ANSA as James Emslie, also survived, as did Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares. Hannah Lynch, reportedly the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, is among the missing.
The yacht’s registered owner is listed as Revtom Ltd., according to online maritime database Equasis. Bacares is listed as Revtom’s sole owner, according to corporate registration documents from the Isle of Man.
Its name, Bayesian, may be a reference to “Bayesian Inference,” one of the two main approaches to statistical machine learning and the one that was used by Lynch’s company.
The yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, was carrying 12 passengers and 10 crew. According to online charter companies, it had been available for charter for 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week and was notable for its massive 75-meter-tall (246-foot-tall) aluminum mast, one of the tallest in the world.

Italian divers search for superyacht wreck survivors as ‘air pockets’ could offer hope
Italian divers searched for a third day on Wednesday, 21 August, for six people rescuers fear are trapped inside the luxury Bayesian superyacht that sank in a storm off the coast of Sicily .
Those missing include British billionaire Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah; Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer ; his wife, Judy Bloomer; Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo; and his wife, Neda Morvillo.
One man, Recaldo Thomas, has been confirmed dead, and a further 15 people survived the incident.
Coastguard officials have not ruled out the possibility that those missing may still be alive, with experts speculating air pockets could have formed as the yacht sank.
