One of the largest megayachts in the world, the 141-metre-long Yas, has cruised into Malaga’s marina for luxury vessels again.
It is the second visit by the colossal craft, a former Dutch navy frigate, and it remains the largest to moor in the city centre facility. In the process, it has put many of the Muelle Uno restaurants and shops in the shade - literally.
The Yas, as it is known today, is actually the second life of another ship. Named Swift141 during her reconstruction, the Yas is based on the hull of an old frigate; Piet Hein, a Kortenaer class frigate of the Royal Netherlands Navy. She was launched in 1978 and later sold to the United Arab Emirates Navy, where she operated under the name Al Emirat. This practice is not that rare, as a second frigate of the same class is in fact undergoing a similar conversion; the Abraham Crijnssen, renamed Abu Dhabi.
One of the most impressive features of the Yas is its size. It is 141-metres-long and has several swimming pools and helipad. Its interior was created by French designers House Pierrejean Vision Design Studio.
The megayacht is capable of carrying up to 60 guests and 56 crew members. The facilities include a beauty salon and a lift. Powered by two diesel engines, she cruises comfortably at 23 knots, with a top speed of 26 knots and a range of up to 5,758 nautical miles.
The ship belongs to Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prince of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, so it can be considered the official yacht of the Emirati crown. Known as Fazza, 40, the prince is very active on social media, where he has more than 12 million followers. With his snapshots, you can get a closer look at his luxury day-to-day life in Dubai.

Johnny Buss, brother of Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, is running for president
- Copy Link URL Copied!
A family often compared to the fictional Roy family from HBO’s “Succession” is living out one of the show’s storylines.
Johnny Buss , brother of Lakers governor Jeanie Buss , is running for President of the United States , according to documents filed with the Federal Election Committee and an official website for his campaign.
“I envision an America that leads with compassion, innovation, and most of all integrity. An America where racial equity is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for every citizen. Where our policies reflect our commitment to the planet, and where education opens doors to futures bright with promise,” Johnny Buss says on the website Buss2024.com .
He’s registered as an independent candidate.
Anthony Davis and Lakers bullied, beaten by Sacramento Kings, again
The Lakers’ loss to Sacramento exposed many of the team’s problems that have haunted them against the Kings.
March 13, 2024
On “Succession,” Logan Roy’s oldest son, Connor, runs for president.
According to campaign documents, Johnny Buss filed for his candidacy on Jan. 30. He has spent $118,026.66 according to government filings, including $1,500 for hair styling expenses and $36,560 for a film production company.
A text message to Buss wasn’t immediately returned. He does not have a role with the Lakers. The team declined to comment on the candidacy.
Buss, the eldest son of late Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss , previously served as president of indoor soccer franchise Los Angeles Lazers and as president of the Sparks until 2006.
In 2017, Johnny and his brother Jim, were involved in a brief legal fight over the structure of the team’s board of directors in which Jeanie Buss solidified her position as controlling owner of the Lakers.
According to his website, Buss is running on a platform of a “more equitable and just America,” “empowering our future through education” and “leading on climate.”
The email address listed on his filing paperwork didn’t appear to be functioning, with multiple emails bounced back to sender Thursday afternoon.

Local News | Salvage efforts for LoveBug, 103-foot capsized yacht in Anne Arundel water, set to begin Tuesday
Donjon Marine Co., the New Jersey-based firm that worked to recover the debris from the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore , has been contracted to salvage the LoveBug and deliver it to underwriters and its owner.
The Farrell 256, a 200-foot crane barge with a 120-foot boom, and the Meagan Ann, a coastal towing tug, began the roughly 40-hour journey down to the Chesapeake Bay on Sunday morning. The vessels are expected to arrive in Anne Arundel waters Tuesday morning, said Steven Newes, senior vice president of Donjon.
A second crane barge, the 250-foot Columbia NY, will arrive later, he said. The crane has a 140-foot boom, according to Donjon.
The Farrell 256 will be used to rig the LoveBug with slings, Newes said. Then, the Columbia NY will roll and lift it to an upright position. Water inside the yacht will need to be pumped out, as well.
How long the salvage will take and where the yacht will go once it’s recovered are unclear.
The Italian-built yacht was sailing south on the Chesapeake Bay from Annapolis on July 27 when it began to tip over. The Coast Guard received a mayday call at 12:36 p.m., but by the time crews arrived, the five people onboard had been rescued by a good Samaritan and a nearby towboat. Paramedics tended to two of the passengers, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, but both declined to be treated.
In the weeks since the Lovebug capsized, the yacht has remained in the water in the same location between Beverly Beach and Shady Side. Though the yacht was originally resting on its starboard, or right, side, it has rolled some, Newes said.
The LoveBug is grounded in roughly 10 to 12 feet of water, said Hunter Dortenzo, a Maryland Natural Resources Police spokesperson. However, the salvage vessels are shallow enough to work in the area, Newes said.

The yacht, which cost between $110,000 and $125,000 to charter for a week, was not operating as a charter when it overturned, Dortenzo said.
The LoveBug is owned by Bees Honey LLC, a limited liability company based in the Marshall Islands, according to VesselFinder, a marine traffic site. The owner’s identity remains unclear.
The Natural Resources Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting separate investigations.
Though Dortenzo was not able to speak about the Maryland agency’s investigation, he said investigators will not be able to survey the yacht or determine what caused it to capsize until it’s lifted from the water.
In the days after the capsize, a slight oil sheen was visible on the water surrounding the LoveBug. Two oil booms were placed around the yacht. No additional pollution has been reported since then, Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Bokum said Friday.

Daughter of former Man City owner named Thailand’s youngest ever PM
T he 37-year-old heir of a powerful but controversial political dynasty has been elected Thailand ’s youngest prime minister, after a shock court decision that plunged the kingdom into crisis.
Paetongtarn Shinawatra was picked by Thailand’s parliament on Friday, days after judges removed her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin , for breaching ethical standards.
Ms Paetongtarn is the youngest daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra , a billionaire who once owned Manchester City football club. He was ousted in a military coup in 2006 but has retained a strong presence behind the scenes.
His brother-in-law and sister have served as prime minister since he fled into exile, though both were ultimately ousted by a royalist-military establishment that despises him. Still, sensing a threat from a youthful progressive party, a murky deal with that very elite allowed Mr Thaksin to return after a 15-year exile last year.
Now, his daughter’s rise to the nation’s top job is a clear indication that Mr Thaksin has no intention of exiting the political fray.
Dr Napon Jatusripitak, a visiting fellow at the Singapore-based think tank ISEAS Yusof-Ishak Institute, said: “Paetongtarn’s rise to the premiership means the Shinawatra clan will play an even more direct role in shaping this government’s political and policy direction.
“It also means the Shinawatra clan will return to its former status as the most polarising force in Thai politics since many Thai conservatives still cannot accept the legitimacy of a Shinawatra prime minister.”
He added that her appointment could end badly for the Shinawatra family : Mr Thaksin will have to “tread carefully” to ensure his daughter does not suffer the same fate as Mr Sretta, while Ms Paetongtarn will have to work hard to prove “she answers to the Thai people rather than her father”.
Ms Paetongtarn worked for the family’s hotel group before jumping into politics last year, when she hit the campaign trail for her Pheu Thai party while heavily pregnant. While a deft communicator, she’s not popular – in a June opinion poll, she had only a five per cent approval rating.
Many view the mother of two as inexperienced, amplifying the perception that she’s purely Mr Thaksin’s puppet. On Thursday, a former minister told the Telegraph that the opposition were “like vultures, waiting to eat her alive”.
Ms Paetongtarn’s ascent comes after another turbulent period for Thai politics.
Last week, the same court that ousted Mr Srettha dissolved the reformist Move Forward Party and banned its leaders from politics. The group won the most seats and votes in the 2023 election but was barred from heading a coalition by the powerful royalist military establishment.
In parliament on Friday, the head of a new iteration of Move Forward called the People’s Party, bemoaned “lawfare” by the courts – reflecting a broader frustration among many in Thailand about the limits of democracy in the southeast Asian country.
But the kingdom has other challenges that will immediately clog up Ms Paetongtarn’s inbox.
“Thailand is currently facing economic problems that may be beyond even the best leaders’ ability to fix,” said Dr Napon. “The next election will show whether she has succeeded.”
