yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Yema is a name that was born in 1948, created by Henry Louis Belmont, who was a graduate from the National Watchmaking School of Besancon in 1931. The name stayed till today and lingered very well especially within the dive-watch community, a name that is synonymous with fine French horology.
Mr. Belmont created Yema who specialized in the manufacturing well-built watches at an honest price (Gnomon’s philosophy), which led the brand to take off during the 1960s era. Some of them do ring a bell for vintage watch collectors, for an instant, the 1960s Flygraf pilot chronograph (air), Rallygraf racing chronograph (land) and Yachtingraf regatta chronograph (sea). Further, let’s not forget the one and only diver collection that stamps this French maestro into the watchmaking legacy- the legendary Superman diver.

In commemoration of its 75th anniversary, Yema unveils the Yachtingraf model, seamlessly blending the intricate craftsmanship of a tourbillon complication with the practical functionality of a tide complication. This unique timepiece is designed to cater to individuals who value both technical innovation and practical utility in their watches. Best yet, one is able to obtain a tourbillon movement for less than $10000USD! The timepiece further marks the 75th anniversary of YEMA and its gradual transition towards a vertically integrated watchmaking Manufacture. The case design of this timepiece seamlessly marries sportiness with elegance, guaranteeing a water resistance of 100m. Crafted in 316L stainless-steel, the case exhibits various finishes, including vertical brushing and polished beveled lugs, along with a circular brushed bezel. With a contained diameter of 42.5mm and a thickness of 12.3mm (14.5mm including the double-domed sapphire crystal), it strikes a harmonious balance, offering well-proportioned dimensions for this exceptional watch. The unidirectional rotating bezel stands out with its opulent finishes, as it is meticulously crafted from scratch-resistant, slightly domed sapphire. This demands a sophisticated and time-intensive manufacturing process, reflecting the commitment to luxury. The bezel is adorned with an insert featuring a minimalist 0-60 graduation and a luminescent marker at noon.

Enhancing its collector's appeal, this timepiece boasts a high-quality double-domed sapphire crystal, measuring 2.20 mm in height. This crystal not only ensures improved readability but also enhances resistance, all while embracing a distinctly vintage aesthetic. Underneath the crystal, the dial draws inspiration from the aesthetic codes of the iconic 1970s Yachtingraf model. Showcasing a sunray black finish, it incorporates applied markers coated with Super-LumiNova. The vibrant Maréographe register, reminiscent of the vintage Yachtingraf model with a regatta-style influence, is complemented by a tides indicator in the form of a small hand elegantly adorned with YEMA's logo. Adding to the visual allure, the 60-second tourbillon creates a mesmerizing kinetic spectacle, beating and turning against the partially open dial. The transparent exhibition caseback provides a captivating view of the beating heart within, showcasing the distinctive architecture of the CMM.30 tourbillon caliber. This feature offers a fascinating experience for true enthusiasts who appreciate the intricacies of watchmaking. Adding a personalized touch, the outer ring of the caseback is elegantly engraved with a unique Limited Edition number (XX/75).

Now onto the star of the show. The Calibre Manufacture Morteau 30 (CMM.30) tourbillon unique's design ensures superior performance, combining clever architecture and high-quality Franco-Swiss components. Crafted entirely by Olivier Morya, a renowned French watchmaking developer based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the regulating organs are made in Switzerland, while YEMA manufactures the bridges and mainplates in its Morteau workshops. With its Swiss regulating part, the CMM.30 tourbillon achieves high precision, ensuring lasting accuracy and stability. The free-sprung balance wheel regulates isochronism, enhancing precision and stability over the long term. Adjusted in six positions, the CMM.30 guarantees an accuracy of -3 to +7 seconds per day. The CMM.30 features a single large barrel optimized for a 105-hour power reserve. Specifically crafted for the CMM.30 by Générale Ressorts, this barrel is strategically positioned off-center to accommodate gears and the balance wheel, maintaining a compact thickness.

The tourbillon escapement boasts innovations that reduce friction, thanks to a sophisticated manufacturing process (LiGA technology). This advanced escapement optimizes the entire mechanics, ensuring precision and longevity of the caliber components. Equipped with non-magnetic components, including a Swiss-made non-metallic alloy hairspring, a Glucydur balance wheel with a gold adjustment mass, and micro-components made with LiGA technology materials, the CMM.30 can withstand exposures to electromagnetic fields up to 2,000 Gauss—an impressive feat for a tourbillon caliber. The architecture of the tourbillon cage bridge, featuring a free-sprung balance wheel and shock absorbers manufactured by Kif, renders the CMM.30 impervious to shocks, vibrations, and accelerations up to 5,000 Gs in all directions.

aliber designed and developed by Olivier Mory

Although the in-house tourbillon is the primary complication, The Maréographe consists of a tide complication placed in an elegant register. To make this magnificent phenomenon of nature visible, an elegant small hand indicates high and low tides by making gradual half-revolutions every 6h 12m 7.89s (change from high tide to low tide and vice versa) and a full revolution every 12h 25m 15.79s. The watch is finally fitted with a 20mm black rubber strap, in effort to remind one that this is still a proper sports watch from the French maison. Made from premium quality FKM Viton® rubber, providing utmost durability while remaining easily pliable, comfortable, dust repelling and highly resistant to tearing. The elegant folding clasp in brushed steel adds style and comfort. Limited to 75 pieces, the Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillion Mareographe thoroughly showcases the brand’s savour faire. All of its tourbillon movement components, including the watch case, dial, and hands, are manufactured in France and Switzerland within a range of 72km from Morteau by recognized craftsman in fine watchmaking. Even rhe caliber bridges and mainplates are manufactured in YEMA’s workshops in Morteau where final assembly of all components takes place. What’s a better way to celebrate Yema’s 75th birthday?

Celebrating 75 years in business, French watchmakers Yema have recently released their Yachtingraf Tourbillon Maréographe, a tribute to classic design and Franco-Swiss watchmaking mastery. Ringing in a milestone is never an easy feat; but, somehow, Yema has been able to accomplish not only a timeless design, but something that showcases the pursuit of excellence that has defined the brand over the course of its history.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Don’t let the plain black and steel (or bronze) design fool you – this watch is anything but simple. Yema has incorporated a balance between yachting heritage design and function to show what this watch is capable of – while also doing it with a certain je nais sais quoi , courtesy of a somewhat unexpected tourbillon caliber. The tourbillon is visible at the 6 o’clock mark, giving one an interior look into the precision mechanisms of this masterpiece. Opposite that, at the 12 hour, the Maréographe has a unique lunar time complication with a display of tide cycles, complete with a decorative bearing the traditional Yema “Y” logo. While maybe not part of your day-to-day needs, it’s nonetheless a showing of Yema’s technical capabilities and a bit of a unique offering for an important anniversary.

Description

Yema's 75th anniversary limited edition.

Entirely designed and manufactured in Morteau and the Franco-Swiss Jura valley around our workshops, this collector's timepiece with high-end finishes available in steel and bronze editions and limited to 75 numbered copies each, marks the 75th anniversary of YEMA and its gradual transition towards a vertically integrated watchmaking Manufacture. This masterpiece is powered by an exceptional hand-wound tourbillon caliber designed by Olivier Mory, a renowned French Watchmaker Developer based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which offers unprecedented performance and complications.

FRENCH MANUFACTURE CALIBER

Caliber designed and developed by Olivier Mory. Micro-components (bridges and plates) manufactured directly in our YEMA workshops in Morteau, including assemblies, adjustments and checks.

DOUBLE DOME SAPPHIRE BEZEL & CRYSTAL

The unidirectional rotating bezel is characterized by its luxurious finishes. It is crafted from scratch-resistant, slightly domed sapphire, requiring a much more sophisticated and time-consuming manufacturing process. The bezel is completed by an insert with a minimalist 0-60 graduation and a luminescent marker at noon. This collector's timepiece is also equipped with a high-quality double-domed sapphire crystal 2.20 mm high, offering better readability, increased resistance and a resolutely vintage appearance.

YACHTINGRAF ICONIC DIAL

The dial takes inspiration from the aesthetic codes of the 1970’s Yachtingraf iconic model. It features a sunray black finish with applied markers coated with Super-LumiNova and a colorful Maréographe register reminiscent of the regatta-style Yachtingraf vintage model completed with a tides indicator in the form of a small hand gracefully decorated with YEMA’s logo. The 60-second tourbillon boasts a mesmerizing kinetic spectacle for the wearer as it beats and turns against the partially open dial.

BRONZE CASE & SAPPHIRE DISPLAY CASEBACK

The case design combines both sportiness and elegance while ensuring a 10 BAR water resistance. Available in steel or bronze, it features different finishes with vertical brushing and polished beveled lugs and a circular brushed bezel. With a 42.5mm contained diameter and a 12.3mm thickness (14.5mm including the double-domed sapphire crystal), it offers balanced proportions for such a timepiece. The 20mm lug allows a wide choice of bracelets. The transparent exhibition caseback reveals the beating heart, it shows off the distinctive architecture of the CMM.30 tourbillon caliber creating a fascinating experience for the true enthusiast. The caseback outer ring is engraved with a unique Limited Edition number (XX/75) and a serial number (XXX-XXX).

FKM VITON® RUBBER  BRACELET

Made from premium quality FKM Viton® rubber, providing utmost durability while remaining easily pliable, comfortable, dust repelling and highly resistant to tearing. The elegant 316L Stainless Steel folding clasp, available in brushed steel and IP bronze, adds style and comfort.

TOURBILLON CALIBER

Invented by French horologist Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1795, the tourbillon is an advanced regulating organ present in certain high-end mechanical watches, intended to improve the precision of timepieces. It consists of a rotating cage containing the balance wheel and its hairspring, the escape wheel, the lever and the second wheel which drives it. The cage rotates 360 degrees every 60 seconds, which counteracts the effects of gravity and reduces any positional errors of accuracy. The tourbillon embodies watchmaking know-how, only a few Manufactures master the creation of this caliber masterpiece.

MARÉOGRAPHE  COMPLICATION

The Maréographe consists of a tide complication placed in an elegant register. To make this magnificent phenomenon of nature visible, an elegant small hand indicates high and low tides by making gradual half-revolutions every 6h 12m 7.89s (change from high tide to low tide and vice versa) and a full revolution every 12h 25m 15.79s.

The Surprising Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe for the Brand’s 75th Anniversary

What better way to celebrate an anniversary with friends than by offering them a tourbillon to enjoy.

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe

Yema, the French watchmaker , has a history and a notable presence in the world of horology. Established in 1948, Yema is known for its diverse range of timepieces, crafted for various purposes, from diving to racing and aviation . One of the distinctive aspects of Yema watches is their fusion of functionality and style. To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Yema introduces the Yachtingraf model, incorporating the intricate craftsmanship of a tourbillon with the functionality of a tide complication, catering to those who appreciate both technical innovation and practical utility.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

The Yachtingraf Tourbillon Maréographe harmoniously merges sportiness and elegance in its case design, predominantly brushed for a well-balanced aesthetic. With a water resistance of up to 100m, the case comes in steel or bronze, measuring 42.5mm in diameter and 12.3mm thick (14.5mm with the double-domed 2.20mm high sapphire crystal). The unidirectional rotating bezel is equipped with a sapphire crystal insert, graduated in 5-minute increments, and a triangular luminescent marker at 12 o’clock adds a touch of sophistication. The caseback is transparent to demonstrate the Tourbillon Maréographe movement’s architecture and finish.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

The black dial features a sunray finish and Super-LumiNova-coated applied indices. Indices, hands, and other elements are presented in matching colours depending on the case material. The Maréographe complication is positioned above the centre and introduces blue and red hues, with a small hand adorned with Yema’s logo indicating tide cycles. This hand points to high and low tides, making gradual half-revolutions every 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 7.89 seconds, completing a full circle rotation in approximately 12 hours and 25 minutes, passing Descendante – Marée – Montante indications. The tidal cycles, linked to the Moon’s gravitational forces during its rotation around the Earth, are precisely displayed by integrating lunar time to synchronize tides with local time.

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe - 6

At 6 o’clock, the 60-second tourbillon of the Calibre Manufacture Morteau 30 (CMM.30) takes centre stage, embodying the same robustness that defines the timepiece. Designed by Olivier Mory, a French movement developer in La Chaux-de-Fonds, this calibre incorporates non-magnetic components, such as a non-metallic alloy hairspring, a Glucydur balance wheel with an adjustment mass made in gold, and micro-components manufactured with LiGA technology. This ensures the movement can withstand electromagnetic exposure up to 2,000 Gauss.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

The tourbillon cage bridge, free-sprung balance wheel, and shock absorbers make the CMM.30 impervious to shocks, vibrations, and accelerations up to 5,000 Gs. Adjusted in 6 positions, the CMM.30 guarantees near-chronometer accuracy between –3 and +7 seconds per day, all powered by a single barrel providing 105 hours of reserve. Among other achievements, Olivier Mory was responsible for developing a tourbillon-equipped calibre for the BA111OD brand, offering Swiss-made tourbillon watches at very attractive prices.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

So, it is no surprise that the Yachtingraf Tourbillon Maréographe is priced at EUR 9,990 . Yema will produce steel and bronze editions limited to 75 numbered timepieces each. The Yachtingraf Tourbillon Maréographe is worn on a comfortable strap made from premium rubber, closed by a steel or bronze folding clasp, depending on the case material. YEMA Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

Morteau based French watch brand YEMA celebrates its 75th anniversary by launching the Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe Limited Edition.

YEMA Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

Entirely designed and manufactured in Morteau and the Franco- Swiss Jura valley, this high-complication wristwatch with high-end finishes available in steel and bronze editions and limited to 75 numbered copies each.

This new luxury tool-watch with tourbillon and tidal complication marks the 75th anniversary of YEMA and its gradual transition towards a vertically integrated watchmaking Manufacture.

YEMA Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

Each YEMA Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe watch houses an exceptional hand-wound tourbillon caliber designed by Olivier Mory, a renowned French Watchmaker Developer based in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Named CMM.30 (Calibre Manufacture Morteau 30), the innovative mechanical high-complication movement features a 31mm diameter tourbillon at 6H with free-sprung balance wheel, LiGa anchor and escapement wheel, tidal cycle mechanism and 19 jewels.

New: Yema Yachtingraph Tourbillon Mareographe

Yema celebrates their 75th Anniversary with a new in-house tourbillon set at the very attractive price of USD 9,999.

Press release information with commentary in italics.

The retail price for the Y ema Yachtingraph Tourbillon Mareographe is USD 9,999. Both steel and bronze cased versions have the same price. Pre-orders are available on the Yema website now for delivery end January 2024.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

We have been following Yema for a while. And have had a growing impression of the “little” French brand. Their Traveller micro-rotor which was introduced in end of 2022 was the first stamp of technical virtuosity in the modern history of the brand. We covered some of the design and manufacture savoir faire in our commentary on the release of the Urban Traveller . They followed up this year with a new calibre – the Calibre Manufacture Morteau 30 CMM.30 with tourbillon and mareographe. Though the split of in-house vs outsourced is not revealed in this novelty movement, we assume that it will be like the Caliber Manufacture Morteau 20 which is 80/20 in-house/outsourced. The Yema documentation states the origins of the calibre, see the section within the Press Release below entitled “ORIGINS”.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Two references are released, one in a steel case, and the other in a bronze case. Both have the same retail price and are identical except for case material. Both have a water resistance rating of 100m, not quite for diving, but as the name implies, it is designed for Yachting. The tide indicator is also a nod to this intended use case. The juxtaposition of a tourbillon in a sporty watch is sometimes counter indicative, but we love this “iron fist in velvet glove” genre of watches.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

What is interesting of this new calibre is that it boasts of some rather impressive technical features. Of course, the most prominent is the one minute tourbillon with a free-sprung balance wheel, but also the watch keeps track of tidal cycles (the Mareographe). It also has a 105 hour power reserve and good magnetic resistance of 2,000 Gauss. The escapement uses a high tech manufactured LiGa anchor and escapement wheel.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

And also as impressive is the target retail price of just shy of USD 10k. Giving other Swiss made tourbillons like Horage and Ba111od a run for the money. We have requested for a review loaner but Yema has told us that they do not have samples to spare. This is a pity, especially as the images sent by Yema look like they are computer renders rather than actual photographs of the real watches. The images look absolutely beautiful.

YACHTINGRAF TOURBILLON MAREOGRAPHE 75TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION

Entirely designed and manufactured in Morteau and the Franco- Swiss Jura valley around our workshops, this collector’s timepiece with high-end finishes available in steel and bronze editions and limited to 75 numbered copies each, marks the 75th anniversary of YEMA and its gradual transition towards a vertically integrated watchmaking Manufacture.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

This masterpiece is powered by an exceptional hand-wound tourbillon caliber designed by Olivier Mory, a renowned French Watchmaker Developer based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which offers unprecedented performance and complications.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

MARÉOGRAPHE COMPLICATION

The Maréographe consists of a tide complication placed in an elegant register. To make this magnificent phenomenon of nature visible, an elegant small hand indicates high and low tides by making gradual half- revolutions every 6h 12m 7.89s (change from high tide to low tide and vice versa) and a full revolution every 12h 25m 15.79s.

A DYNAMIC REGIONAL WATCHMAKING ECOSYSTEM

YEMA workshops are based in Morteau, the cradle of French watchmaking, a few steps from the Swiss watchmaking region. This cross-border watchmaking community concentrated along the Jura mountains has gradually transformed into a true regional ecosystem recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO in 2020.

All tourbillon movement components, including the watch case, dial, and hands, are manufactured in France and Switzerland within a range of 72km from Morteau by recognized craftsman in fine watchmaking.

TOOL WATCH REVOLUTION: LUXURY MEETS FUNCTIONALITY

“ The Yachtingraf Tourbillon Maréographe has been designed for purpose, a true tool watch able to withstand the harshest conditions. It features a double dome sapphire crystal, a unidirectional count-up sapphire bezel, 10 ATM water-resistance, high anti-magnetic resistance (2,000 Gauss) and shock-resistance (5,000G) as well as an innovative tide indication complication animated by an exceptional and precise tourbillon caliber offering over 4 days power reserve. This unique set of features is uncommon since tourbillon watches are mostly designed as watchmaking art pieces that are delicate in their utilization. This is one of the rarest tourbillons built for daily use, a luxury timepiece that is as rugged and functional as it is beautiful and refined, a tool watch in the lineage of YEMA watches. “ Christophe Bôle, CEO & Head of Design
“With the latest CMM.30 tourbillon and CMM.20 micro-rotor calibers, YEMA aims to display its watchmaking savoir-faire in its quest for transitioning towards a watchmaking Manufacture operating model. Leveraging from the advanced manufacturing and production methods implemented during the past two years, YEMA will soon release its upcoming 3-hands Manufacture caliber, the CMM.10.” Olivier Mory, Watchmaker Developer

Introducing The New Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe

MRSTATELESS NEW RELEASES , YEMA 0

Two limited editions marking the brand’s 75th anniversary. The diving watches that arrive with a stainless steel or bronze case stand out for featuring a tourbillon and a tide indicator on the dial.

Yema, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, presents the new Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe to mark the occasion which arrives in two limited editions of 75 pieces each.

In addition to the obvious complications, the new dive watch adds a tourbillon at 6 o’clock and a tide indicator at noon.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

The tide indicator, which is painted blue and red, describes a half rotation through its pointer every 6h12m7.89s depending on the Earth’s rotation, marking a new tidal cycle, which means that the indicator operates a full 360º rotation every two cycles and which occurs every 12h25m15.79s.

The watch that wears a stainless steel or bronze case comes with dimensions of 42.50 mm in diameter by 14.50 mm in thickness with a mainly brushed finish and polished on the edges, domed unidirectional black bezel with 60m scale, domed sapphire crystal, crown at 3 o ‘clock with crown guards, open case back and 100m of water resistance.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

On the black sunray dial, applied hour indexes and Dauphine’s hands in the same colour as the case and filled with Super-Luminova, the ‘Mareographe’ colour we talked about above and which comes with a steel or bronze contour, and the 60s tourbillon that completes a rotation every minute on which there are two plaques engraved with the brand name and ‘France’ relating to its roots.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Inside runs the CMM.30 hand-wound movement designed by Olivier Mory, which in addition to offering an impressive 105 hours of power reserve, is resistant to magnetic fields of up to 2,000 Gauss, shocks of up to 5,000G and an accuracy of – 3/+7 seconds per day. The same can be admired through the rear sapphire glass, highlighting the blackened bridges.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

The watch, which comes attached to a black FKM rubber strap with a deployment clasp matching the case, costs €9,990 (plus taxes) and is currently in a pre-order period which will be delivered at the end of January 2024.

Yema Launch Astonishing Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

When it comes to French watch brands, two of the names that immediately come to mind are Yema and Baltic, which feels appropriate because both brands are on an absolute tear at the moment. Accessible French fine watchmaking has never been as exciting as right now. Baltic are doing things you’d never expect of such a small brand like releasing 1-of-1 perpetual calendars while Yema have just launched a stunning French tourbillon. Specifically, they’ve launched the Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75 th Anniversary Limited Edition.

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

As the name of the watch indicates, the Yachtingraf has an aquatic theme while not being a dive watch. It’s a watch comfortable on or around boats but not actually in the water – although with 100m water resistance it should at least survive if you accidently take a spill and get out immediately. In some regards its similar to how the Rolex Yacht-Master isn’t really a dive watch either.

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition Drawing

Where the aquatic aspect of the watch comes into its own is the Mareograph located at 12 o’clock, also known as the whirlpool complication tideograph. It’s essentially a lunar complication akin to a moonphase except that it translates that information into a display that shows the daily cycle of the tides. Particularly useful for sailors or those who want to know whether to bring flipflops or waders to the beach. The indicator also looks fabulous with the red-blue subdial and porthole ring around the edge, it oozes nautical instrument vibes and I love it.

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

Of course, what is more likely to draw attention to this watch is what’s located at 6 o’clock on the dial, the tourbillon. It looks awesome and is made even more special by the fact that it (along with the rest of the CMM.30 movement) was designed by the French watchmaker Olivier Mory. This is a true French tourbillon designed by a Frenchman and with a large number of components produced in Yema’s manufacture in Morteau, alongside a Swiss regulator.

The specs are also pretty crazy with a 105-hour power reserve, an accuracy of -3/+7 seconds per day as well as solid anti-magnetic and shock resistance.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

There’s so much going on with the mechanics of this watch that I’ve totally neglected the case and styling. It measures 42.5mm in diameter and is available in either steel or bronze, limited to 75 pieces in each material. The aesthetic of the Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75 th Anniversary, with its fairly long lugs, round shape and shiny 60-minute bezel, is clearly inspired by the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Although perhaps my brain is making that connection because Blancpain just released their own bronze rendition with a two-colour indicator in the form of the Act 3 . Regardless, the Yema look fantastic.

Yema Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition

On top of all that, it’s priced at €9,990 (approx. £8,650), which is great value for a specially designed tourbillon movement of such high specification. I really like this watch and it shows Yema’s commitment to improving French horology and push boundaries. Plus, it’ll make a decent splash at all those yacht-board cocktail party on the Cote d’Azur that you so regularly attend.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

CADRAN ICONIQUE YACHTINGRAF

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

CALIBRE TOURBILLON

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Microbrand Watch World

Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary By Yema

Shony M

Yema, the enigmatic watch brand, presents a unique identity. Founded in 1948 by the French watchmaker Henry Louis Belmont, it has consistently crafted exquisite timepieces infused with a distinctive French flair. Yet, it distinguishes itself by its limited production, crafting watches in small numbers. Regardless of whether you label it an independent or microbrand, the latest offering from Yema is bound to captivate your attention. This exceptional timepiece boasts one of horology’s most coveted and desired complications—the tourbillon. Join us as we delve into Yema’s latest creation, the Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary.

Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary.

Yema is set to introduce two distinct variations of its upcoming timepiece. The first version will be crafted from stainless steel, while the second will showcase an exquisite bronze construction. Each of these editions will be strictly limited to a production run of 75 numbered units. Both versions will showcase a 42.5mm case with a captivating combination of design elements, including alternating finishes that incorporate vertical brushing, polished bevels, and a finely detailed circular brushed bezel.

Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary.

The unidirectional rotating bezel is meticulously fashioned from scratch-resistant sapphire with a subtle dome shape, necessitating a painstaking manufacturing procedure. This bezel is then adorned with an insert featuring a minimalist 0-60 scale and a luminescent marker positioned at the 12 o’clock position.

Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary.

The dial draws inspiration from the design elements of YEMA’s iconic 1970s Yachtingraf model. It boasts a sunray black finish adorned with applied markers coated in Super-LumiNova, as well as a vibrant Maréographe sub-dial reminiscent of the vintage Yachtingraf’s regatta style. The dial is further enhanced with a tide indicator represented by a small hand adorned with the YEMA logo.

The Stainless Steel Version.

In the YEMA Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary timepiece, this hand tracks high and low tides, completing half-revolutions every 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 7.89 seconds to signify the shift from high tide to low tide and vice versa. Additionally, it completes a full revolution every 12 hours, 25 minutes, and 15.79 seconds.

The Tourbillon.

Positioned at the 6 o’clock position, the 60-second tourbillon creates a mesmerizing kinetic display within the partially open dial, captivating the wearer with its oscillations and rotations.

Inside the watch, behind a clear caseback, we find Yema’s CMM.30 – a hand wound tourbillon caliber, offering 105 hours of power reserve when fully wound.

The caliber visible through the caseback.

Featuring non-magnetic components like a Swiss-made non-metallic alloy hairspring, a Glucydur balance wheel with an adjustment mass crafted in gold, and micro-components fabricated with LiGA technology materials, the CMM.30 exhibits remarkable resistance to electromagnetic fields, handling exposures of up to 2,000 Gauss—a remarkable achievement for a tourbillon movement.

The structural design of the tourbillon cage bridge, coupled with its free-sprung balance wheel and shock absorbers, renders the CMM.30 impervious to shocks, vibrations, and accelerations of up to 5,000 Gs in all directions. This tourbillon movement is purpose-built for everyday use.

Each and every part of the Yachtingraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary, including the watch case, dial, and hands, is manufactured within a 72-kilometer radius of Morteau, the home of Yema, extending across both France and Switzerland. The calibre bridges and mainplates are meticulously crafted within YEMA’s Morteau facilities, serving as the hub for the final assembly of all components as well.

As mentioned above, Yema will be offering this watch in two versions, both of them will be paired with a premium quality FKM Viton rubber strap. Both versions, the stainless steel, reference 37.33.66.SN.U6 and the bronze version, reference 37.33.66.ZN.U6, will be priced at 9,990 euro.

To Sum It Up

It’s no secret that Yema produces exceptional timepieces. Among the watches we’re eagerly anticipating is the Traveler Micro-Rotor Limited Edition , a sports watch with an integrated bracelet that’s already sold out. To this list, we can now add the company’s latest release, the Yachtinggraf Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary. This watch presents the tourbillon complication in a sporty-elegant design, boasting an incredibly attractive price point, especially for a European tourbillon timepiece.

While we ponder whether Yema should be classified as a microbrand or an independent manufacturer, we hope the company doesn’t hold back on creating more such outstanding watches.

Yachtingraf Steel Tourbillon Mareographe 75th Anniversary Limited Edit - Yema Watches

en.yema.com

Nice to look at on other peoples wrists……especially when it’s service time 😬

Not a lot of use where I live, as we have 4 tides a day. If you are really bored, you can read about it here . I don't think that I would spend $10K on it though.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Not bad looking at all. I had no idea that Yema has been around for 75 years. Cheers!

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

I like it and I’m glad Yema is trying new things like, as well as the microrotor. I’m hoping the new upcoming 3 hander movement is in a more affordable offering. By the way, I have 6 Yema’s from the past couple years, no problem with any of them.

Good looking, but I hate ‘limited special edition’ runs of watches.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

I guess tourbillons are a right of passage they are however still pretty yet pretty useless and expensive to service , that been said the new Yema manufacture is nice and the models they are presenting not too bad at all....

Just noticed that price. I will pass thanks.....

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Looks great, mvt looks very nice.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Interesting until I saw the thickness 14.5 and manual wind. Interested in their microrotor if not for brand reputation.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

When it comes to pre-orders, I always figured that whatever the deposit is, is what the watch cost the brand. I think its important for brands invest in their own products before their customers are asked too.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

I really like yemas styling all around, and I also like that they’re trying to be an in house brand, that is cool and uncommon in their price range. what I don’t understand as much is why they don’t focus their efforts on making their movements really solid as opposed to being so all over the board. Multiple generations of 3 hand, gmt, micro rotor, now tourbillons…and as far as I know not a single one of them known for their reliability or polish. My 3000 movement is certainly not, and that’s third generation of the simplest iteration. not my business of course but it’s a shame that by now, a good few years into this, they could have one or maybe 2 really respected movements and a good rep instead of what they have now, which…

I have three Yema's with the 2nd gen 2000 mvmt and I haven't had one problem. The persistent story of CS issues on WUS is hard to kill, and I suspect is related mostly to their 1st gen in-house mvmt. Lucky for Yema the number of actual Yema consumers on WUS is likely a tiny % of their sales otherwise they'd be out of business. What's more interesting to me is the new 3-hander movement which I'm hoping is a lot less expensive than the tourbillon, and maybe even the micro-rotor mvmt. I'd assume they'd eventually retire the current 2000 mvmt but who knows: ..leveraging from the manufacturing and production methods implemented for the CMM.20 micro-rotor, our upcoming 3-hands Manufacture Caliber CMM.10 features higher precision, better shock-resistance and 70+ hours power reserve, assuring stable and accurate timekeeping. Our watchmakers have been working on this new caliber during the past 2 years and the first series are expected to roll out as early as the first quarter of 2024.

Would what will happen with those who buy this when it comes servicing time, given Yema's customer service rep????

Expensive "googaw" that I don't need.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

That's a lot of money. With that proprietary movement it's probable that it would have to go back to Yema for most servicing, and there's the rub.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

I'd trust a Seagull tourbillion before I trusted this one. If they can't get three-hand dive watches right, I don't know why anyone would buy a $10k haute complication from them.

Gorgeous, but 10k I’ll just admire from afar 😣

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

With Yema's QC track record I'd be scared of that tourbillon ejecting itself from the watch like a piece of shrapnel and embedding into my frontal lobe. Pass.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Yema should focus on the basics, like straightening out their QC and CS, along with moving past funding everything through KS - you know, behaving like an a legitimate “big boy” brand - before skipping about five steps ahead with something like this. If they have trouble properly servicing three hand movements, one can only imagine the nightmare that will ensue when one of these inevitably goes wonky.

I would probably pick a different "budget" tourbillon from horage or FC.

www.watchfinder.com.au

Review: Horage Tourbillon 1

www.watchfinder.com.au

I recall coming across some threads about Yema’s poor customer service in the past here and elsewhere as some have pointed out. It sounds very risky getting their tourbillon watch which will likely cost a lot just to service it via a third party if there are issues getting Yema to do so satisfactorily.

yema yachtingraf tourbillon mareographe

Speaking generally, I think having a tourbillon visible from the dial side is quite gauche.

I'm not saying there haven't been issues before but on some of the ongoing Yema threads here, and the Yema FB group(s) I look at now and again, I'm not seeing any rampant QC/customer service posts? Maybe it's possible things have improved since the bad old days. Maybe the first in-house mvmt was a dud, and the 2000 is less prone to issues. The 6 I have are running like a champ and I'm eyeing a 7th maybe later this month or next. I won't be a blind fanboy though, if I ever have an issue I have no problem making it known.

I don't know how much cost the R&D went into creating this, but the resources would probably have been spent better on other aspects of the company.
