Our President, Carrie Schmidt, started her work in the documentation industry in 1999. Since then she has encountered a variety of different challenges, each one preparing her with the experience necessary to fulfill her current role. Carrie works regularly with numerous Yacht Brokerages and Financial Institutions handling the detailed task of taking each deal from start to finish. This requires the knowledge of working with the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Coast Guard Offices. As a result, she is able to coordinate all aspects of the transaction making certain everything is completed in the fastest and most professional manner possible. This invaluable experience only comes after over 15 years of working in the industry. AVDA was incorporated on February 10, 1995 as a California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation in response to the centralization of the United States Coast Guard offices to West Virginia and the need for formalization of the professional status of more than 50 documentation services in the United States.
NMBA's mission is to educate current and prospective lenders in the marine financing procedures, promote credit to consumer and trade borrowers, maintain alliances with industry partners, measure and report on the vitality of the marine lending market, and maintain networking and communication among members and associate members (which includes documentation services, remarketers, insurance agencies, and marine attorneys).

Our computer database has been carefully designed to guarantee the confidentiality of your private information and includes password and firewall protection. We take serious steps to ensure the privacy of our clients' sensitive information. For example, each social security number (needed for the Coast Guard Application) entered into our database is automatically expunged from the database immediately upon sending your file to the Coast Guard. Furthermore, our IT staff has set up forms to keep each file independent and safeguarded from others in the system. Boat documentation service near Annapolis

I just bought a boat out-of state and I either need to register it in Marylsand or Document it. Can anyone recommend a boat documentation service company near Annapolis? I've found a few through Google, but if someone here can share the name of one they used and liked, that would carry a lot of weight in my selection. Any information is greatly appreciated.
For clarification, your boat will need to be registered in Maryland whether it is documented or not. You may choose to document it or not. If it is already documented you need to transfer the documentation to your name. It is easy to do at uscg documentation center on line and will cost $86 + $6 if I remember correctly. You will need a notarized bill of sale on the correct uscg bill of sale form, transfer application form and form giving permission to charge your bank card ( all three forms available on line) There are many services that will do this for you for about $300 give or take. If the boat is not documented you can just put it in your name at Maryland department of natural resources. Be prepared to get hit for 5% of the sales price transfer tax to the state plus registration fees probably $20 to $50 dollars. Officially the boat is supposed to be registered in the state where it is used the most but many people register their boat in Delaware where there is no 5% transfer tax only the registration fees. Escrow service for personal boat sale?

Has anyone had an actual experience using an escrow service, whether an attorney, title company, bank or something like escrow.com, in support of a no-broker boat purchase or sale? I have completed a number of boat sales where a broker held an escrow after closing pending a sea trial. Since the broker participated in the sea trial and was knowledgeable in marine matters, he brought some knowledge and expertise to distributing the escrow. I'm curious how a non-participating escrow agent such as one of the above would work out or not in a real life boat sale?

Why not just go to your credit union and have them hand the seller the check and you the signed title?
I used an escrow service when selling a car to someone across the country on Ebay. The piece of mind was worth every penny.

I also think that someone calling themselves a broker may have a variety of different restrictions and duties they may or may not perform themselves but will ensure those same entities who are qualified will do(for the fee).

Someone is mixing up terms. Escrow and documentation are two different things. The OP is asking about an Escrow service, not a Documentation service.
An escrow agent only deals with money and documents. He will review the Purchase/Sale Contract and determine the dates and documents necessary to be presented for the release of the deposit and the rest of the funds.. There is no room for interpretation about "any smoke from the engine". that is boat survey territory. The buyer usually retains the final acceptance or approval for the release of the final funds. What the seller can insure is a claim on the deposit and the enforcement of the timeline stipulated in the contract. Time limits can be stipulated for the Boat's Survey, a haul out and the final sea trial to protect the seller from taking the boat off the market for an excessive amount of time. They may offer ancillary services like a Lien search, title insurance and title documentation.
We used our Credit Union who held the paper as the party to handle the, "For Sale by Owner", transaction when we sold our first boat. Worked out quite well. The buyer got the boat, we got the money. If the seller owns the boat free and clear, most any attorney that deals in property sales can handle the transaction for a fee.

Reimagining Sales, Service & Support at the South Annapolis Yacht Centre and Marina Village

Most importantly, the location provides “a home base” for servicing Bluewater customers on the Upper Chesapeake. No longer will this customer base need to travel to Hampton, to have their boat serviced by the Bluewater team. The service and maintenance aspects at this new facility boast indoor/outdoor bays and storage, facilitated by a new 75-ton Marine Travelift operating on a deep-water haul-out basin. “This new Annapolis presence will enable us to provide concierge service to our sales clients while also offering service and support to all of our customers throughout the Chesapeake Bay area,” explains Bluewater Partner Earle Hall .
The service operations are being led by Mike Waldow, an experienced yard manager with deep roots in Annapolis. Hall says, “Mike’s customer service skills are beyond reproach, and we are delighted to have him.”
The impressive new facility will also provide Bluewater the opportunity to promote many of their featured new model brands in the Mid-Atlantic’s strongest market, including Regulator , Valhalla , Viking , Jarrett Bay and Princess . “Providing our signature Bluewater Service in Maryland and the Northern Chesapeake region, along with the world-class brands we represent is sure to be a game-changer for our company and the South Annapolis Yacht Centre,” commented Bluewater General Manager, Wyatt Lane.
