The Boating Center of Jeddah

Red Sea Marina  is one of Jeddah’s finest marinas. Situated on North Obhur, it is established as the premier destination in the Middle East for yachting.

The 300 berth  marina caters for yachts from 8 meters up to 60m in size and gives visitors access to pristine coastlines, uninhabited islands and the nearby cosmopolitan cities of Jeddah.

Red Sea Marina was established by Saudi Brothers Commercial Company in 1987. This legendary undertaking is advantageously based in the superb location within the bank of Obhur Creek just 24 km north of Jeddah. Red Sea Marina covers an area of 53,000 sq.m. and an offshore area of 36,000 sqm. The marina harbors three jetties with a combined capacity of housing 300 boats and yachts. It’s onshore shaded berth spaces can hold up to 108 boats.  This unique marine development was and still located on the bank of Obhor Creek.

Preliminary Regatta of 37th America's Cup

With the Red Sea's stunning coastline, and its strategic location between the Mediterranean and Asia, Jeddah Yacht Club is positioned as a superb superyacht destination.  Jeddah Yact Club is also due to host the second Preliminary Regatta of 37th America's Cup, which is one of the most prestigious competitons in international sailing. 

The event is in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Sailing Federation who have significant ambitions for the rapid growth of sailing in Saudi Arabia across many top-level sailing events and classes as part of its Vision 2030 ambitions.

The Saudi Sailing Federation is the national governing body for the sport and is dedicated to developing and promoting sailing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  They are striving to make sailing accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or ability.  The Federation also aims to increase participation and elevate the standards of sailing within the country.

Canadian, U.K. tech entrepreneur among six missing after luxury superyacht sinks off coast of Sicily

One man died and six people were missing, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, after a luxury yacht was struck by an unexpectedly violent storm and sank off Sicily early on Monday.

The British-flagged “Bayesian”, a 56-metre-long (184-ft) sailboat, was carrying 22 people and was anchored just off shore near the port of Porticello when it was hit by ferocious weather, the Italian coast guard said in a statement.

Eyewitnesses said the yacht vanished quickly beneath the waves shortly before dawn. Fifteen people escaped before it went down, including a one-year-old child.

The names of the dead and missing were not immediately released, but a person familiar with the rescue operation confirmed that Lynch was not accounted for.

The Italian coast guard said the missing had British, American and Canadian nationalities.

“The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude,” a coast guard official in the Sicilian capital Palermo told Reuters.

Storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days – with floods and landslides causing major damage in the north of the country – after weeks of scorching heat.

The captain of a nearby boat told Reuters that when the storm hit he had turned the engine on to keep control of the vessel and avoid a collision with the Bayesian.

“We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” Karsten Borner told journalists. The other boat “went flat on the water, and then down,” he added.

He said his crew then found some of the survivors on a life raft – including three who were seriously injured, and a baby girl and her mother – and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

Lynch, aged 59, is one of Britain’s best-known tech entrepreneurs. He built the country’s largest software firm, Autonomy, from his ground-breaking research at Cambridge University, and became known as Britain’s Bill Gates.

He sold the firm to HP for $11 billion in 2011, before the deal unravelled spectacularly following the acquisition, with the U.S. tech giant accusing him of fraud.

Once lauded by academics, scientists and politicians, Lynch spent much of the last decade in court defending his name. He was acquitted by a jury in San Francisco in June, after he spent more than a year living effectively under house arrest.

He said at the time that he was “elated” to be cleared in the criminal trial in which he denied any wrongdoing and blamed HP for botching the integration of the two companies.

The coast guard said divers were inspecting the wreck of the Bayesian, which was lying at a depth of 49 metres.

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese have opened an investigation to look into what had gone wrong.

The Bayesian was built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008 and was last refitted in 2020. Its 75-metre mast is the tallest aluminium mast in the world, Perini said on its website.

The shipspotting.com website said the boat was owned by a firm called Revtom Limited. Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares is named as the sole shareholder of the firm on company documents.

The yacht’s name would resonate with Lynch because his PhD thesis and the software that made his fortune was based on Bayesian theory.

The ship won a string of awards for its design and can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites.

The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14 and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of “at anchor”, according to vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.

A U.K. foreign ministry spokesperson said British officials were in contact with local authorities over the incident and were ready to provide consular support for Britons who were affected.

A man has died and six people are missing after a UK-flagged superyacht sank off the coast of Sicily in a tornado - with a prominent British businessman among those unaccounted for.

Sky News understands technology tycoon Mike Lynch owned the 56-metre vessel (183ft), named Bayesian, which has been described as one of the biggest superyachts in the world.

The tech tycoon, known as the "British Bill Gates", has been in the headlines in recent months over a high-profile fraud case.

In June, he was cleared of all charges by a US jury related to the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011.

The businessman's lawyer is also among the six people missing.

Mr Lynch's wife Angela Bacares is confirmed to be among the 15 people who were rescued after the British-flagged yacht capsized at around 4.30am local time (3.30am UK time) on Monday.

A body, believed to be that of the superyacht's chef, has been found close to the vessel, according to local media.

Police divers have been trying to reach the hull of the ship, which is resting at a depth of 50 metres (163 feet) off Porticello near Palermo where it had been anchored during the storm.

During the rescue effort divers saw "corpses through the portholes" of the wreck, Salvo Cocina, the head of the Civil Protection of Sicily, said.

Four of the missing passengers are British and two are American, Italian news website la Reppublica reports.

Most of those on board were reported to be from Britain - including a mother and one-year-old daughter who are among those rescued.

Speaking to the Giornale Di Sicilia newspaper, the mother said: "For two seconds I lost my baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves.

"I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy. Many were screaming. Luckily the lifeboat inflated and 11 of us managed to get on board."

The mother was reportedly given stitches for a chest injury following the ordeal.

The Italian cost guard has said the vessel had passengers from Britain, America and Canada.

Meanwhile, multiple Italian news outlets people on the boat were from Britain, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Ireland.

British-French citizens were also among those on the superyacht, according to reports.

'I saw it sinking with my own eyes'

Pietro Asciutto, a fisherman from Porticello who witnessed the storm, told local media: "I was at home when the tornado hit. I immediately closed all the windows. Then I saw the boat, it had only one mast, it was very big. I saw it suddenly sink."

He added: "I think the whirlwind came from Porticello... shortly afterwards I went down to Santa Nicolicchia Bay to get a better look at what was happening.

"The boat was still floating, then all of a sudden it disappeared. I saw it sinking with my own eyes."

Fabio Cefalu, another local fisherman, called rescue services after spotting the wrecked boat off Porticello.

He said: "Around 3.55am we witnessed the whirlwind. After a quarter of an hour we saw a flare 500 metres away from the dock.

"Around 4:35am we went out to sea for the rescue, however, we only saw the remains of the boat floating. There were no men in the sea. So we immediately called the harbour master's office."

A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said: "We are in contact with the local authorities following an incident in Sicily, and stand ready to provide consular support to British nationals affected."

Camper and Nicholsons, which provided yacht management services for the Bayesian, has confirmed the vessel sank at around 4.30am local time.

The company said in a statement: "There were a total of 12 guests and 10 crew onboard.

"The Italian Coast Guard is leading search and rescue operations, and has safely recovered 15 individuals. Efforts to locate the seven missing persons continue.

"Our priority is assisting with the ongoing search and providing all necessary support to the rescued passengers and crew."

Here are some of the big names who have enjoyed Koru alongside Bezos.

Bezos did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Hollywood hotshot Leonardo DiCaprio is a repeat sailor on Koru.

Bezos hosted an August 2023 party aboard the yacht to celebrate his engagement to Lauren Sánchez, and DiCaprio was in attendance, Page Six reported at the time.

DiCaprio was back on the big boat earlier this month, but this time, he was joined by his 26-year-old girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, according to the tabloid .

Representatives for DiCaprio did not respond to BI's request for comment.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom enjoyed an Italian summer while sailing on Koru earlier this month.

The singer-actor couple were both in attendance at Sánchez's 50th birthday party in 2019, according to Page Six.

Perry and Bloom also joined Bezos and Sánchez in Croatia last year , as did Usher.

The "Woman's World" singer and her "The Lord of the Rings" partner were back on Koru with Bezos, Sánchez, DiCaprio, and Ceretti this month, Page Six reported.

Representatives for Perry and Bloom did not respond to BI's request for comment.

Microsoft founder and billionaire Bill Gates enjoyed Koru's amenities when he attended Bezos and Sánchez's August 2023 engagement party.

Gates was accompanied by his girlfriend, Paula Hurd. The couple was spotted in paparazzi photos lounging on the yacht's deck.

Representatives for Gates did not respond to BI's request for comment.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner

Multiple members of the famous reality TV family have hitched a ride aboard Koru.

Kim Kardashian spent time on the megayacht with Bezos and Sánchez earlier this summer as Koru traversed the Aegean Sea near Greece, People reported.

The SKIMS founder's mother, Kris Jenner, and her boyfriend, Cory Gamble, were also on board earlier this month, according to the outlet.

Jenner also attended Bezos and Sánchez's August 2023 engagement party on Koru. The Kardashian matriarch posted a photo of herself sitting next to Sánchez celebrating the engagement.

Representatives for Kardashian and Jenner did not respond to a request for comment from BI.

Wendi Murdoch

Entrepreneur and investor Wendi Murdoch snagged an invite to Bezos and Sánchez's 2023 engagement party aboard Koru, Page Six reported at the time.

Rupert Murdoch's ex-wife was photographed on the yacht in conversation with Gates.

BI reached out to Murdoch for comment.

Whitney Wolfe Herd

Bumble co-founder and billionaire Whitney Wolfe Herd was among Sánchez's female friends who helped celebrate her engagement on Koru last year, BI previously reported.

Herd appeared in photos on Sánchez's Instagram from August 2023.

BI reached out to Herd on Instagram for comment.

Ari Emanuel and Sarah Staudinger

Fashion designer Sarah Staudinger and her husband, Ari Emanuel , CEO of entertainment agency Endeavor, also attended the star-studded engagement party last year.

Staudinger appeared in photos on Sánchez's Instagram presumably taken on Koru from around that time.

Emanuel did not immediately respond to a request for comment. BI was unable to reach Staudinger for comment.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield

The two Spiderman actors reportedly attended Bezos and Sánchez's engagement party on Koru last August, Page Six reported at the time.

Representatives for Maguire and Garfield did not respond to BI's request for comment.

Rania Al Abdullah (The Queen of Jordan)

Queen Rania of Jordan was also a reported guest at Bezos and Sánchez's 2023 engagement party, according to Page Six.
