The design of a boat, whatever its size, involves diverse and articulated knowledge. A boat is both a means of transport and a living environment, living on the water and yet referring to the coast. The range of objects of study and design presents a great variety: from the luxury yacht to the interiors of ships destined for tourism, but also schools or hospitals; from the performance boat to the design of the accessory, the component or of new modes of transport on water.
The study of the context, the construction of scenarios, the ability to represent and communicate are part of the graduate's preparation, without forgetting the cultural roots and historical knowledge that characterise the sector. The student learns to understand contexts of use, to outline trends, to imagine modes of use, to create new services and products.
The graduate acquires the necessary skills to conceive, design and realise interior and exterior design of yachts and pleasure boats, manage the evolution of the project considering the production processes and the numerous dynamics involved in its realisation, develop an ability to effectively communicate project and product contents.
Welcome to the Master's Degree Course in Naval and Nautical Design. In recent years we have introduced professional figures into the sector who have been the protagonists of a cultural enrichment and bearers of innovation in an industrial sector in which Italy is a world leader. If you want to turn your passion for yachts into a profession, this course will provide you with the methodological and technical tools to do so. It won't be a walk in the park, but it will certainly be a rich experience and an opportunity for growth in a privileged training context.

The professional figure of the Naval and Nautical Designer, graduating from a Master’s degree program, unique in Italy, is able to manage the complexity of the project, from the development of the concept through to the realization phases. The fundamental purpose of the Degree Course is the formation of a systemic design capacity, enabling the graduate to interpret the profession, anticipate trends, operate in the planning phase, follow the execution, and evaluate the impact of choices made. The study of the context, the construction of scenarios, the capacity to represent and communicate are all parts of the preparation of the graduate, without forgetting the cultural and historical knowledge that characterizes the field.
The Degree program responds to a high demand, not only nationally, but also internationally. The range of objects of study presents a remarkable variety: from luxury yachts, in which there is a need for significant sensibilities to contemporary languages, to the design of interiors of ships destined for tourism, but also for schools or hospitals; from the design of a high performance boat, in which the hull and propulsion are the most relevant aspects, to the design of new modes of transport on water. Therefore, the student must be able to understand the contexts of use, to delineate the trend lines, to imagine the manner of use, and to create new services and products.
The Course Catalogue foresees a degree program in which there are design laboratories and workshops that allow students to learn how to manage the complexity of a project: in the laboratories the knowledge is integrated and developed both in technical-engineering classes and in classes in the humanities. The collaboration of two universities, with five departments, permits an educational path that integrates different skills and different educational approaches. The final exam consists of a discussion, in front of a special commission, on an original scientific and technical thesis developed under the guidance of a professor.
The main employment opportunities for a Naval and Nautical Designer are: studies and design companies; companies and agencies operating in the design field in all sectors of application of the discipline; public and private institutions; freelance work. Over 80% of Master’s degree graduates in Naval and Nautical Design find employment in the above-mentioned sectors within 12 months of obtaining their degree.

Yacht design.
The Italian nautical design has been synonymous with excellence for over 80 years, but few people are aware about the complexity of Naval Architecture and How do a designer build a yacht, what are the steps to follow, from concept to design to creation, in the context of an industrial process. The Yacht Design course aims to train students to face the new conditions of the market, to learn about new types of boats and new methods of shipbuilding. Special attention will be given to the ecological innovations introduced in the market of today – a market much more sensitive to the preservation of our world. Studio sessions will be supported by visits to shipyards and by tours on yachts.

CARRARA.
Come è

(CNN) — Initial autopsies of four of the seven victims who died when a superyacht sank in a storm in Italy last month show they died of “dry drowning,” according to authorities.
The phenomenon, also known as “atypical drowning,” means they had no water in their lungs, tracheas or stomachs, said a spokesperson for the lawyer of the captain of the Bayesian, which went down off the coast of the Sicilian port of Porticello on August 19.
There is no medically accepted “dry drowning” condition — “dry drowning” or other terms such as secondary drowning or delayed drowning are sometimes used to describe patients whose condition worsened after a drowning rescue or who had very little water in the lungs. However, the American Red Cross and other health organizations have recommended against using the terms; people may experience health impacts after being in water but it’s not the same as drowning, it says.
The cause of death of the first four victims suggests that they had found an air bubble in the cabin in which five of the victims’ bodies were discovered, and had consumed all the oxygen before the air pocket turned toxic due to carbon dioxide, according to local media reports.

The autopsies of American lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda Morvillo, Morgan Stanley banker Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Anne Elizabeth Judith Bloomer were carried out on Wednesday at the Forensic Medicine Institute of the Palermo Polyclinic hospital, officials said.
Autopsies on British tech titan Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter are expected to be carried out on Friday.
No date has been set yet for the autopsy of Recaldo Thomas, the ship’s onboard chef – due to the difficulty reaching his family in Antigua.
All seven victims were scanned for injuries last Saturday, which found none had suffered broken bones or other physical injuries that might have contributed to their deaths.
The prosecutor investigating the case first suggested earlier in August the idea that the victims had been searching for an air pocket.
The autopsies are part of the criminal investigation into the ship’s captain James Cutfield, the ship’s machine engineer Tim Parker Eaton and sailor Matthew Griffith, who was on watch the night of the accident. None of the men is in Italy.
They are being investigated for “multiple manslaughter” and for causing a shipwreck, but authorities say this doesn’t mean they will be charged with any crimes. They were allowed to leave the country by the prosecutor in charge of the investigation.
A yacht sank after taking damage in a storm, claiming the lives of several victims, with others able to be rescued alive.
The 56-meter yacht sank within 16 minutes of being struck by a downburst or tornado on the early morning of August 19. The ship will have to be raised for the investigation and to ensure that the 18,000 liters of fuel onboard do not leak into the sea around the port of Porticello near Palermo.
Bids have been sent out for the salvage, which will be paid for by the company of Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares, which owns the yacht.
Toxicology results on the seven victims are expected in the coming days. No alcohol or drug tests were carried out on any of the crew members, the prosecutor said in a press conference after all the victims’ bodies had been recovered.
Lynch and his business partner Stephen Chamberlain, who died after being struck by a car in London the day the Bayesian sank, had been acquitted of fraud charges in a US court in June 2024. The charges were related to the sale of their company Autonomy to Hewlett Packard, which has said it will not drop its civil lawsuit for $4 billion in damages now being heard in a UK court.
