Vetrimaran's 'Viduthalai' to release in two parts

CHENNAI: Ace director Vetrimaran's eagerly-awaited upcoming film,'Viduthalai', featuring Soori in the lead and actor Vijay Sethupathi as 'Vaathiyaar', will release in two parts, its makers have now announced. Interestingly, both parts of the film -- 'Viduthalai' and 'Viduthalai-2' -- are to be presented by actor, producer and politician Udhayanidhi Stalin's production house, Red Giant Movies. The shooting of 'Viduthalai-1' has already been completed and post-production work is on in full swing. Only a few portions are left to wrap up the shooting of 'Viduthalai-2', which is currently happening in Sirumalai and Kodaikannal. Produced by RS Infotainment's Elred Kumar, the 'Viduthalai' franchise is being made on a whopping budget. The film's grandeur has been generating a strong buzz. Only recently, a train and Railway bridge set worth Rs 10 crore was erected for the film. The train compartments as well as the bridge were made using the same materials that engineers use to manufacture trains and build bridges. Earlier, the art department headed by Jackie had erected a huge village set in Sirumalai. The makers of 'Viduthalai' say that it is an intense story that needs proper storytelling to make sure it appeals to the audience. It is for this reason that they say they decided to break the story into two different parts. Currently, preparations for shooting a breath-taking action sequence between Vijay Sethupathi and Soori are going on in Kodaikanal. Peter Hein is choreographing this action sequence in which a group of proficient stuntmen from Bulgaria will be a part. The star cast of 'Viduthalai' includes Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, Bhavani Sre, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajeev Menon and Chethan. Maestro Isaignani is composing music for 'Viduthalai', which features cinematography by Velraj.

National Award-winning Tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai: Part 1 will open in cinemas worldwide on March 31, producer Eldred Kumar's RS Infotainment banner announced on Monday. Sharing new posters featuring comedy actor Soori and 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, there has been considerable talk about the film's release, which has now been finally confirmed. Vetri Maaran 's Viduthalai is a two-parter and also marks the first time Soori is playing the lead role as a policeman, while Vijay Sethupathi will be appearing in an extended cameo as a rebel leader. 

Viduthalai: Part 1 is carrying massive expectations as it is the first time a Vetri Maaran film will release in theatres after his Asuran in 2019. The acclaimed filmmaker had directed the 'Oor Iravu' segment in the Tamil anthology film, Paava Kadhaigal , which released directly on streaming in 2020, and the buzz for the the period crime thriller film has since been huge. Viduthalai  also marks the first occasion Vetri Maaran has collaborated with iconic Tamil composer 'Isaignani' Ilaiyaraaja and the songs released earlier this month have received a strong response from fans. Vetri Maaran will be looking to hit it out of the park with Viduthalai: Part 1 after his 2016 police crime drama film, Visaranai , received glowing reviews from audiences and critics alike. The upcoming film is also expected to take a big opening in Tamil Nadu as Red Giant Movies acquired the theatrical rights and the blockbuster production-distribution banner will be looking to add yet another feather to their cap after their 2023 started on a high note with the success of films like Ajith Kumar's Thunivu and Kavin's Dada . Apart from Soori and Vijay Sethupathi, Viduthalai also stars filmmakers Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon, and Tamizh, who are joined by Chethan, Saravana Subbiah, Bhavani Sre, Ilavarasu, Munnar Ramesh, among others in pivotal roles.

Viduthalai Part 2 Release Date: Here's when Vijay Sethupathi and Vetrimaaran's crime thriller will be out in theatres

V iduthalai Part 2 is one of the highly anticipated films of 2024. Directed by Vetrimaaran, this period crime thriller stars Vijay Sethupathi as the main lead. Recently, the makers of the film announced the release date, which coincides with the Christmas festival. 

Vijay Sethupathi took to his social media handles to announce the release date of Viduthalai Part 2. The film will hit the big screens on December 20. Making the big announcement, the actor wrote, "Mark your calendars! Maverick director #VetriMaaran’s #ViduthalaiPart2 is coming to theatres on December 20, 2024. #ViduthalaiPart2FromDec20. An @ilaiyaraaja Musical." Along with the note, the actor dropped new posters from the film.

The film is based on B. Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan and continues the narrative of Constable Kumaresan, played by Soori, who is tasked with arresting Perumal, portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi, a teacher and leader of a separatist group.

Kumaresan is recruited to apprehend Perumal, and the film further explores themes of loyalty, conflict, and the moral dilemmas faced by the characters against a backdrop of societal issues. The sequel is expected to delve deeper into Perumal's character and his motivations, expanding on the events set up in the first part.

Originally planned as a single film, Viduthalai was split into two parts due to its length.

Viduthalai Part 2 features a strong ensemble cast that includes Soori as Constable Kumaresan, Vijay Sethupathi as Perumal Vaathiyaar, Manju Warrier as Perumal's wife, and Bhavani as Tamilarasi, who is Kumaresan's love interest. The film also stars Gautham Vasudev Menon as DSP Sunil.

The soundtrack for Viduthalai Part 2 is composed by Ilaiyaraaja, who also worked on the first part. 

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi has been basking in the success of his recently released film titled Maharaja. Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, the film became one of the most-watched films on Netflix. The film also featured Anurag Kashyap as the main antagonist.

VETRI MAARAN'S VIDUTHALAI WILL RELEASE IN TWO PARTS

Vetri Maaran has been working on his upcoming film, Viduthalai, for the past few months . What started off as a small project has now turned into a franchise.

On September 1, Vetri Maaran announced that Viduthalai would release in two parts. The shooting of the first part has been wrapped up and only a few portions have to be filmed in the second part. The shooting is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Sirumalai and Kodaikanal.

Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai Part 2 first look out

The first look of the much-anticipated Viduthalai Part 2 directed by Vetrimaaran has been released by the makers of the film. The film is the second part of the two-part adaptation of Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan .

The two posters that were shared on social media showed Vijay Sethupathi in two distinct roles. One in an intense avatar weilding a sharp weapon and having blood marks all ver his body. The second, in stark contrast, has the actor beside Manju Warrier. Interestingly, Manju had earlier teamed up with Vetrimaaran for Asuran .

Viduthalai Part 1 was released last year to commercial and critical acclaim. Viduthalai Part 2 will see Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Chethan, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, Saravana Subbiah, and Munnar Ramesh reprising their roles from the first film.

On the technical team, the film, which is the final stages of filming, has music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography handled by R Velraj and editing by R Ramar. It is produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner and Vetrimaaran's Grass Root Film Company. Both Viduthalai Part 1 and 2 were earlier screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival. A release date is yet to be announced by the makers.
