Principal Characteristics & Technical Specifications

The all-new Sunseeker 100 Yacht is the epitome of a luxury yacht. Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X as standard or MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines as an option, the 100 Yacht accommodates up to twelve guests and five crew in complete luxury, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.

A striking Owner Stateroom forward with a private bow terrace, sunbathing hideaways, a breathtaking single-level exterior deck from flybridge to foredeck, a beautifully proportioned open-plan interior and generous ‘Beach Club’, just a few of her magnificent features. 

The revolutionary Sunseeker ‘Beach Club’ provides an exceptional area to relax at water level. The tender garage can accommodate a Williams 460 Sportjet and GTX255 jet ski, with plentiful stowage for SeaBobs, diving equipment and paddleboards. The innovative X-TEND™ system offers several seating arrangements, facing aft in its lowered position or, at the flick of a switch, forward at cockpit level.

The vast flybridge on board the 100 Yacht flows seamlessly into the foredeck with uninterrupted walk-around access on both sides. The foredeck provides a social space with two separate seating arrangements plus an oversized sunpad. The essential raised pilot house, central to this yacht’s innovative design, incorporates a glazed sliding door aft, allowing uninterrupted views forward from the flybridge.  

Its unique main deck, penthouse-style saloon and luxurious staterooms offer a new-found design direction and material selection providing elegant interiors to enchant any owner. The layering of textural elements and the mix of furnishings and fabrics feels timeless with a modern twist that exudes simplicity and sophistication. Floor-to-ceiling glazing floods the generous saloon with natural daylight, complemented by sliding doors to starboard, helping to bring the outdoors in. A stunning feature wall forward of the dining room showcases exposed and seemingly floating stair treads leading to the wheelhouse above on the port side and lower deck access to starboard. The large, fully equipped galley forward is concealed behind a feature bulkhead, and offers plentiful space and direct side deck access for crew.

The unique main deck layout includes the Owner's Stateroom forward for even greater flexibility and freedom on board. This full-beam stateroom offers a large lobby entrance, walk-in wardrobe with feature shelving, an office and generous en suite. Bathed in natural light courtesy of expansive panoramic glazing, owners can access a first-in-class bow terrace for ultimate privacy through a cleverly sculptured, fully-glazed sliding door forward.

The yacht can be specified as a four or five cabin boat, ideal for the charter market. In either case, the twin amidship cabins can be fitted with Pullman berths for added flexibility. The crew cabin is also worthy of mention, featuring a Captain’s cabin with en suite, two twins each with en suite, a highly specified crew mess.

Top 100 Greatest Yacht Rock Songs of All Time

Yacht Rock, a term that has steadily grown in popularity, refers to the smooth, groovy rock music of the '70s and '80s that has been popularized over the recent years. Initially categorized as soft rock or adult contemporary, Yacht Rock places a stronger emphasis on the groove rather than the lyrics, making it some of the easiest and catchiest easy listening music for many rock fans. Interestingly, nearly all Yacht Rock songs were created 35-40 years before the genre was officially recognized as its own distinct style, leaving room for interpretation about what exactly qualifies as Yacht Rock. For our criteria, we analyzed the entire catalog of Sirius XM Yacht Rock Radio alongside Spotify and Apple Music’s Yacht Rock playlists and ranked the songs accordingly. Each song included has been deemed Yacht Rock by at least one of these sources and was scored against all other entries. Some songs may rank higher in a broader rock or soft rock sphere, but here are what we have deemed to be the 100 Greatest Yacht Rock Songs of All Time complete with a playlist of all 100 Songs . 1. What a Fool Believes - The Doobie Brothers

Deemed almost unanimously as the quintessential Yacht Rock tune by the few publications that have taken the time to dive into this same endeavor , What a Fool Believes  stands out as one of the grooviest rock tunes to ever achieve mainstream success. Featuring the quintessential Yacht Rock vocalist, Michael McDonald, the song topped charts across North America and became one of the most recognizable and frequently played songs of the '70s. Michael McDonald, who joined The Doobie Brothers in 1975, had become the band's primary vocalist by the release of Minute by Minute  in 1978, which houses What a Fool Believes . With this album marking a new sound for the band, especially following the temporary health-related departure of Tom Johnston, the band's new sound was polished to perfection, a dramatic shift from the Toulouse Street  sound of the early part of the decade. Nevertheless, What a Fool Believes  is a serious earworm, a critically "perfect" pop-rock song, if you will, and a song that reinvented The Doobie Brothers.

2. Peg   - Steely Dan

One of the most talented groups on our list, if not the most talented, Steely Dan transcended the typical confines of Yacht Rock during their initial ten-year run. Covering genres from Yacht Rock to jazz rock, progressive rock, and funk rock, Steely Dan captivated audiences uniquely throughout the '70s and early '80s. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen consistently collaborated with the world's finest studio musicians, producing albums of perfectionist caliber. Within the realm of Yacht Rock, Peg  takes their top spot, ranking just behind What a Fool Believes  in the genre. Once again, Michael McDonald provides backing vocals, harmonizing behind Donald Fagen and Paul Griffin. The silky smooth vocals paired with top-notch instrumentals make Peg  a standout track. Furthermore, Aja , the album that houses Peg , is one of the most impressive American albums of all time , beyond its Yacht Rock appeal.

3. Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)   - Looking Glass

Released in 1972, the one-hit wonder by Looking Glass, Brandy , established a much bigger name for itself than the band ever managed to achieve on its own. As one of the smoothest and catchiest songs of the ‘70s, Brandy  consistently appears on nearly every Yacht Rock, adult contemporary, or easy listening playlist available. The song tells a melancholic tale that is open to interpretation, though it is generally understood to describe an attractive bartender based in Northern New Jersey. Featuring catchy harmonies, clean soft guitar, and subtle horn use, what's not to love about this song?

4. Sailing   - Christopher Cross

If it were up to us at Melophobe, the "Yacht Rock Crown" would go to San Antonio’s own Christopher Cross. Although Cross really shined with just his first two studio albums before his later releases (post-1983) fell into obscurity, his early work still grabs all the attention. From his self-titled debut album, Sailing  stands out as a top ten hit that's the epitome of Yacht Rock. Interestingly, the term "yacht rock" itself is often linked right back to this song. His debut album is loaded with iconic tunes in this style, with Sailing  rightfully taking its place at the forefront.

5. Escape (The Pi ñ a Colada Song)  - Rupert Holmes

The second tune in our top ten that found its way onto one of the three Guardians of the Galaxy  soundtracks—as well as its original LP release—comes from yacht rock icon Rupert Holmes. Escape (The Piña Colada Song)  tells a story that feels more comical today than it might have in the ‘70s, describing a personal ad in search of a like-minded, carefree, fun-loving companion. Beyond the quirky lyrics, the sounds of crashing waves and clean guitars have turned the tune into a timeless earworm, cementing its status as a yacht rock masterpiece long before the term even existed. Guardians of the Galaxy  wasn't just a great series for action lovers; who would've guessed its soundtrack would become almost as iconic as the movies themselves?

6. Lowdown  - Boz Scaggs

Part of the same studio musician collective that worked with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs hit major commercial success in 1976 with the release of his richly decorated album Silk Degrees . Boz Scaggs found success as one of the few artists to achieve substantial mainstream success in the jazz rock world aside from Steely Dan, with both artists utilizing many of the same studio musicians. Released from Silk Degrees , the standout yacht rock tune is Lowdown , a tightly produced masterpiece. Similar to Christopher Cross, Boz's peak in the mainstream was relatively brief, with his fame primarily anchored to Silk Degrees  and sporadic airplay of his other songs over about a decade.

7. Come and Get Your Love  - Redbone

Yet another tune from the Guardians of the Galaxy  soundtracks to make our top ten is Come and Get Your Love , released in 1975 by the swamp rock band Redbone. While often labeled as a one-hit-wonder, Redbone actually scored another American top 40 hit in 1971 and enjoyed scattered success in the R&B scene throughout the '70s. Come and Get Your Love  has since been celebrated as one of the greatest pop songs of the '70s and also managed to somewhat subtly tap into the disco craze of the era.

8. Margaritaville  - Jimmy Buffett

The question of whether Jimmy Buffett fits into the yacht rock category has stirred some debate lately, with the answer remaining somewhat unclear since the term itself is still relatively new. Most agree that Buffett's music is in a category of its own, but there are still those who argue that his unique sound has a place within yacht rock. Regardless, Margaritaville  and a few other Buffett tunes are staples on yacht rock radio stations, so we've deemed them eligible. Buffett's music embodies a carefree lifestyle that mirrors the feel and attitude of yacht rock. His iconic song Margaritaville  instantly puts listeners in a vacation mindset, a unique characteristic that has garnered it extensive praise and airplay over the years. The passing of Jimmy Buffett, an American legend, touched the hearts of many.

9. Africa  - Toto

The first track from the 1980s to make our top ten is Africa  from Toto's fourth album, aptly named Toto IV , released in 1982. Africa  topped the charts across North America and performed exceptionally well worldwide with its powerful chorus, extensive keyboard usage, and subtle guitar playing. Alongside Rosanna , also from Toto IV , Africa  has become a yacht rock staple, but it didn’t stop there—it transcended the genre to become one of the most iconic songs of the '80s. Today, it's still adored, nearing two billion streams on Spotify. The song has also become a favorite for covers, from bar bands to top-notch acts like Weezer.

10. Baby Come Back  - Player

Player carved out a slice of mainstream success in the late '70s, as soft rock began to resonate with those not taken by styles like punk rock and disco. Their biggest hit by far was the North American chart-topper Baby Come Back . Aside from being a soft rock staple, the song has also gained a new life as a meme across the internet. While yacht rock songs typically shy away from overly heartfelt or emotional lyrics, focusing more on the groove, Baby Come Back  manages to do both masterfully. Video shows moments before superyacht went down in storm off Sicily

Newly released video captures a luxury superyacht being battered by a violent storm before it suddenly sank off Sicily with 22 people aboard Monday.

The grainy images obtained by NBC News and other outlets were recorded on closed-circuit television not far from where the Bayesian was anchored, about a half-mile from the port of Porticello, on Sicily’s northern coast .

The yacht's 250-foot mast, illuminated with lights and lashed by the storm, appears to bend to one side before it finally disappears and is replaced by darkness.

The speed with which a yacht built to handle the roughest seas capsized stunned maritime experts.  

“I can’t remember the last time I read about a vessel going down quickly like that, you know, completely capsizing and going down that quickly, a vessel of that nature, a yacht of that size,” said Stephen Richter of SAR Marine Consulting.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and five of the 22 other people who were aboard the 184-foot vessel remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped in the Bayesian’s hull, nearly 170 feet underwater.

Officials confirmed Monday that at least one person, the ship’s cook, had died.  

Superyachts like the Bayesian, which had been available for charters at a rate of $215,000 a week, are designed to stay afloat even as they are taking on water to give the people aboard a chance to escape, Richter said. 

“Boats of this size, they’re taking passengers on an excursion or a holiday,” Richter said. “They are not going to put them in situations where it may be dangerous or it may be uncomfortable, so this storm that popped up was obviously an anomaly. These vessels that carry passengers, they’re typically very well-maintained, very well-appointed.”

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters. 

On Tuesday, Italian rescue workers resumed the search for Lynch and the five other passengers still missing: Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife.

“The fear is that the bodies got trapped inside the vessel,” Salvatore Cocina, the head of civil protection in Sicily, told Reuters .

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was one of the 15 people rescued Monday after it capsized.

“It’s extremely rare for a boat of this size to sink,” Richter said.

What’s not rare is the kind of storm that sank it , said Simon Boxall, senior lecturer in oceanography at Britain’s University of Southampton.

“People assume the Mediterranean is this rather calm and passive place that never gets storms and always blue skies,” Boxall said. “In fact, you get some quite horrendous storms that are not uncommon at this time of year.”

The president of Italy’s meteorological society has said Monday’s violent storm may have involved a waterspout, essentially a tornado over water, or a downburst, which occurs more frequently but doesn’t involve the rotation of the air.

Luca Mercalli, president of the Italian Meteorology Society, also said recent temperatures may have been a factor. 

“The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius [86 Fahrenheit], which is almost 3 degrees more than normal,” Mercalli told Reuters. “This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms.”

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who two months ago was acquitted by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges stemming from the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion.

Prosecutors alleged that Lynch, dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates,” and Autonomy’s vice president for finance, Stephen Chamberlain, had padded the firm’s finances ahead of the sale. Lynch’s lawyers argued that HP was so eager to acquire Autonomy that it failed to adequately check the books .

Lynch had taken Morvill, who was one of his defense attorneys, on the luxury trip. 

Chamberlain was not on the Bayesian.

In what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a car struck and killed Chamberlain on Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

“Steve fought successfully to clear his good name at trial earlier this year, and his good name now lives on through his wonderful family,” Chamberlain’s lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, said in a statement .

Stepping away from steel

While steel and aluminium are often seen as the standard in yacht construction, Lazzara Yachts takes a different approach, challenging this convention by using epoxy reinforced e-glass for its hulls. Insights from the aerospace industry support the decision to use this material. AZoM, a leading publication in materials science, notes that graphite-epoxy composites, similar to those used by Lazzara, have become increasingly popular in commercial aircraft like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. These composites are valued for their durability, structural integrity and performance.

Epoxy offers several key benefits that makes it ideal for yacht construction. It provides resistance to wear, corrosion and impact, which translates to a longer-lasting structure with significantly reduced maintenance costs - essentially offering a near-lifetime guarantee against structural changes. It also ensures better bonding, which enhances structural integrity and reduces the likelihood of delamination, resulting in a more reliable and safer vessel.

Additionally, its high strength-to-weight ratio ensures that the yacht remains strong without being overly heavy, contributing to better agility and easier handling, and its lighter weight compared to traditional materials improves fuel efficiency. Quality construction

Not only does the UHV 100’s hull material deliver longevity and performance, but the shipyard's construction techniques further contribute to its quality build. Notably, the shipyard opted to forgo traditional through-hulls, instead placing sea chests above the waterline. This allows maintenance tasks to be carried out in the engine room while the yacht stays in the water, eliminating the need for costly haul-outs for many service procedures.

In keeping with its philosophy of durability, Lazzara replaces flexible hoses with hard piping throughout the vessel. The yacht is also equipped with a universal power input, capable of adapting to any voltage in America or Europe.

For long-range cruising, reliability is paramount. Lazzara incorporates redundancy systems, ensuring that all essential functions are backed up in case of failure. This feature is particularly important for extended journeys, offering peace of mind to both crew and guests. With a range of 1,100 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots and a low fuel consumption rate of approximately 90 litres per hour at 10 knots, the UHV 100 is designed for efficient, long-distance travel.

Spacious and study interiors

The UHV 100, where "UHV" stands for "ultra-high volume", boasts a substantial total area of 400 square metres. The yacht’s design emphasises spaciousness, with notable features such as a 42-square-metre main saloon and a 34-square-metre master cabin located on the main deck forward.

Lazzara Yachts takes pride in building the interior components entirely in-house, allowing for better control over quality. Many elements, from stainless steel fixtures to custom furniture, are designed and constructed on-site using 3D engineering. Couple escapes Clearwater yacht fire thanks to Good Samaritan

CLEARWATER, Fla. - A couple's yacht caught fire in Clearwater while they were on board over the weekend, and it spread fast. They were able to escape the flames thanks to a Good Samaritan. 

For John Brawley and his wife, being on the water brings peace. 

"We've been boating since the day we met, we're married 57 years. We've had this boat 30 years. It's a major part of our life," Brawley said.

But, Saturday morning was anything but peaceful. They were headed out for a 10-day trip to Sarasota and anchored in the middle of Clearwater Harbor. Around 3 a.m. they started to feel the heat. 

"She said 'man it's really hot in here, is the air off,'" Brawley explained. "I got up and opened the cabin door to turn the generator on and ‘whoosh’ this acidic smoke came whipping in."

Knowing they had to get out, they rushed outside and noticed a fishing boat driving full speed toward them. 

"Within seconds he's coming to the boat and alongside. He said 'get in here, we'll call the Coast Guard,'" Brawley added.

After they got to the shore, all they could do was sit and watch their beloved yacht go up in flames. 

"After we were on the dock about 15 minutes later, you can see flames popping out of the engine room. From there, the combustion was amazing. It burned from end to end," Brawley said. 

The boat eventually sank, and divers went out to look at the boat on Thursday hoping to bring it back to shore. 

"They're working against a 50,000 pound boat or what's left of it on big balloons, which don't glide over the top. They are in the water," Brawley explained. 

While they said they took a big financial hit because of the fire, they're just happy to be alive.

"It was less than 30 minutes of our life and everything changed just like that," Brawley added. "We are here and in one piece. We are very thankful."

Crews plan to remove the boat from the harbor on Friday. Clearwater Fire Rescue said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Rescue crews respond to fire aboard a yacht in Coachman Park waterfront

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater rescue officials responded to a fire on a yacht floating off of Coachman Park's waterfront Saturday morning.

The yacht was located just west of Coachman Park and north of the Memorial Causeway bridge.

Officials said two people were on board, but another boat picked them up safely. No one is hurt. 

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Thieves steal boat from nonprofit working to protect Ohio River, causes $100K in damages

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's a shocking discovery for a local nonprofit dedicated to protecting the Ohio River.

Thieves broke in and took off with a boat, while causing a whole lot more damage.

“I reached out to one of my teammates, and as he proceeded to go out to our boat cage, he noticed a motor on the ground, and the motor he needed was on a boat that was missing,” said Rob Tewes with ORSANCO.

Workers at the nonprofit are left in shock at the damage that was caused.

“A whole boat and a trailer were missing; batteries had been cut out; fuel tanks and cans are all gone; all hitches pulled off of the trucks,” said Tewes.

After surveying the damage and tracking down everything missing, the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, also known as ORSANCO, said they're out $100,000.

“I’ve been here for about 24 years and never have we had a theft or damage like that. It’s pretty overwhelming,” said Lila Ziolkowsi with ORSANCO.

ORSANCO is a nonprofit group that monitors all 981 miles of the Ohio River. Each of the boats is outfitted with special equipment. They're charged with controlling pollution and monitoring river water.

“We have to have the eyes on the river and the boats on the river that do the sampling and analysis to show that the water is safe,” said Ziolkowsi.

The theft of one boat and damage to the others has left the group with just one boat to do work across eight states. Crews are now adjusting schedules to keep up their work.

“We get back to the hotel at midnight or 1 a.m., slick the boat out, load everything up, and get it ready for the next crew, and that boat runs the next day,” said Tewes.

The summer months are also some of the busiest on the water. Tewes said that Cincinnati police are investigating the incident.

“When our efforts are cut down or chopped off at the knees, it impacts everybody,” said Ziolkowsi.

A month after a multimillion-dollar yacht capsized in the West River near Edgewater, crews are getting ready to tow it out of the area.

On July 27, the Love Bug took on water and made a mayday call before capsizing .

"It's just crazy, right? It's not every day a multimillion-dollar yacht gets capsized off your home," said Samantha Kaplan, who lives in the nearby Beverly Beach neighborhood near where the boat went down.

Some neighbors have had a front-row seat for all of it, even watching as all five people on the boat were rescued.

"They actually rescued people to that dock right there, so we saw people getting off the boat," said Ann Gaines, a neighbor. "I guess the owner and a couple people had already been rescued by another boat."

For nearly a month, neighbors looked at the boat lying on its side. They said after the remnants of Hurricane Debby blew through, artifacts from the boat washed ashore, including the boat's bar.

"Countertops and chairs and all of these liquor bottles, like Maker's Mark, and one of our neighbors gathered it all together and set it up like it was a bar," Gaines said.

"I found a frozen burrito that was no longer frozen, and added it to the bar collection," Kaplan said.

That's all gone now, and the Love Bug soon will be too.

Last week, salvage crews, barges and cranes surrounded the yacht and stood it upright. Crews had to rig it up and patch holes before the boat could be towed away to New Jersey.

Neighbors said it's been an interesting month, and even once the boat is gone, they will still have quite the story to tell.

"Every time we've had a person come and visit us the last few weeks, we're like, 'Also this is the million-dollar yacht that sank off our coast.' It's definitely been a good storytime for a little bit," Kaplan said.

The investigation into what caused the ship to take on water is ongoing.
