Meyer Yachts enters superyacht market with ultra-sustainable 150m yacht concept ONE 50

' src=

German shipbuilder Meyer Group has entered the superyacht market with its first yacht concept – the 150 metre ultra-sustainable ONE 50.

Announced at the Monaco Yacht Show, ONE 50 spans six decks with a 20 metre beam and a herculean volume of 15,000GT. The yacht is also designed to be powered by fuel cell technology and battery banks, powered by 25,000 kilowatts of electricity to deliver a top speed of 23 knots.

Speaking at the Monaco Yacht Show, Meyer Werft’s communication manager Florian Feimann said: “We believe that right now there are people looking for a yacht of this size but they do not want the fuels that are currently available. At the moment Elon Musk, for example, cannot buy a fuel cell/battery-powered yacht. But now he can with us.”

ONE 50 is the first yacht concept from the builder’s new yachting division Meyer Yachts. With its roots in the cruising sector, Meyer Group already has the facilities to build yachts up to 500 metres in length and will position itself at the top end of the market with the aim to build the “world’s largest and greenest mega yachts”.

Meyer Werft yacht concept ONE 50

“We are opening the next chapter in our history and enter the market for mega yachts,” said Meyer Group chief executive Bernard Meyer. “We can realise almost limitless ideas and ship sizes – even the craziest ones. We are currently seeing that the demand for mega yachts is increasing and there is room for another shipyard in this segment”.

The company’s commitment to alternative fuel underpins the vision of Meyer Yachts. “We see a lot of potential in mega yachts for new environmentally technologies and we attach great importance to this,” the group said.

When money is no object, it pays to keep up with the times.

And that's exactly what one Russian billionaire has done as he has upgraded his £190million superyacht for a new model - at a cost of £260million.

Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko's 'Sailing Yacht A,' which Mr Melnichenko is thought to have named 'A' to ensure it is listed first in shipping registers, is taking its first sea trials in Kiel, northern Germany.

The behemoth is the world's largest sailing superyacht as the Russian industrialist takes his quest to ruling the seas one step further.

The vessel is an upgrade to the Russian billionaire's current multi-million pound 'Motor Yacht A,' that set him back £190million.

At 468ft in length, with ship masts nearing 300ft high, the 'mega-yacht,' has eight floors and includes an underwater observation room.

Superyachtfan.com reports that the boat is powered by a 'hybrid diesel-electric package with controllable pitch propellers,' and is designed to accommodate 20 guests and a crew of 54.

The yacht was designed by Frenchman Philippe Starck and built by German Naval Yards, Nobiskrug.

Mr Melnichenko is expected to recover some of the costs by licensing the technology developed for the vessel for commercial applications.

Melnichenko also owns a Boeing 737. The multi-billionaire already has one luxury home on the seas - the Motor Yacht A - but has this time turned his attention to sailing power.

The epic vessel boasts a staggering eight decks and its keel incorporates one of the largest single pieces of curved glass ever made at 193 square feet and weighs a whopping 1.8 tons.

It dwarfs other famous super-yachts like The Maltese Falcon, which is 298ft and weighs 1,367 tons.

Cruise speed of the ship is 18mph, with a top speed of 24mph. The hull is made of steel, with a teak-finish deck.

This has been used to create a stunning observation pod on the bottom of the vessel so Mr Melnichenko and Serbian model wife Aleksandra, can enjoy stunning views of the sea.

The 43-year-old was born in Belarus and is married to a former Serbian model. He was named as the 97th wealthiest person on the planet by Forbes, and the ninth richest in Russia.

Mr Melnichenko, whose net worth is estimated at £6billion ($9billion), founded the fertilizer producer EuroChem, the coal producer Suek, the power generator SGK, and the pipe exporter TMK.

Speaking about the project earlier, a spokesman for Mr Melnichenko said it 'pushed the boundaries.'

'This project was a considerable financial risk for him as he had to fund massive R&D to see if he could achieve his vision,' they said.

'But he is a man to always push the boundaries and to challenge the industries he works with to think out of the box so he can achieve something new and exciting as well as beautiful.

'Sailing Yacht A is a monument to invention.'

Benjamin Maltby of MatrixLloyd, the global authority on superyachts', told MailOnline Travel that while the yacht may be ready to sail, the interior design work will be ongoing.

'While she's been launched, the interior will take many more months to complete,' the company said.

'It's where the cash really gets splashed. Interiors typically cost at least £10,000 per square metre – and often much more.

'Make no mistake - this will be a very significant ship. While precise details of the sailing rig have yet to be released, not since the days of the mighty clipper sailing ships, such as the Cutty Sark, has such a large sailing vessel been built.

'This new superyacht will be nearly twice the length and over twice the width of the Cutty Sark. She will instantly become an inspiration to cargo ship owners, and a floating demonstration that sails - combined with the latest materials and technology - mean that dirty diesel engines are no longer needed as the primary means of propulsion.

'The green lobby should be celebrating - as cargo ships are significant CO2 contributors.

'The masts were built by Magma Structures in Portsmouth - just a stone's throw from another well known sailing vessel, HMS Victory, which is less than half the length of this new superyacht.'

Sarah Johnson from Magma Structures told MailOnline Travel: 'We are really proud of the team who build these masts, that are the largest free-standing rigs in the world.

'We are the only company who can produce structures like this of this size, it's great for Britain to be involved.'

Boat International  reports that the previous argest sailing yacht on the water is 96.35 metre Sea Cloud, a classic beauty launched in 1931, followed by the modern falcon-rigged iconic yacht Maltese Falcon at 88 metres LOA.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO KEEP A SUPERYACHT ON THE WATER?

From Russian oligarchs to Middle Eastern royalty to Hollywood producers, it takes a certain type of person to own a superyacht - crucially, they must be super rich.

Andrey Milnichenko has invested $451 million into his new vessel Sailing Yacht A.

However, the initial cost is only part of owning such a luxurious vessel.

For wealthy owners like Roman Abramovich and UAE president Khalifa Al Nahyan, owners of two of the costliest private vessels in the world, the costs associated with keeping such big boats on the water are staggering.

The original plans for Sailing Yacht A have become a reality for the wealthy Russian businessman

The original plans for Sailing Yacht A have become a reality for the wealthy Russian businessman

Insurance company Towergate estimates that 10 per cent of the initial value of a superyacht goes on operating costs.

For Chelsea Football Club owner Abramovich's Eclipse, a 162.5m vessel with a missile defence system that cost the billionaire an astronomical $500milion (£332), that means $50m (£33m) a year.

The standard fuel usage for a 71m yacht is 500 litres an hour, meaning an average of $400,000 (£265,000) is spent on petrol every year per vessel.

The Value Added Tax (VAT) works out at 15-25 per cent of the vessel's value while docking costs are an average $350,000 (£232,000) and $240,000 (£159,000) the standard for insurance sees the costs soar.

Add to that the expected $1million (£664,000) per year for maintenance and repairs and the wages for an average $1.4m (£930,000) for an on-board crew - which can range from less than 20 to 154 staff on the Sultan of Oman's mysterious Al Said superyacht - and it's a significant outlay.

Gary King recently opened up about what goes on behind the scenes on Below Deck Sailing Yacht and gave the fans a rare glimpse into how the reality TV show is actually made. Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 premiered on October 7, 2024, despite doubts about its release due to accusations of alleged misconduct against King. As Season 5 started airing, King posted a video on social media showing the inside view of the Parsifal III yacht that viewers never get to see. This included the cabins used as control rooms filled with production equipment. In the video, he films from the hallway and explains how the producers have taken out two cabins and turned them into their screen room.

King also addressed his frustration with the way he’s been portrayed on the show this season. In one of his Instagram posts, he claimed that certain scenes, especially those crucial to his storyline, have been deliberately edited out. King added that this has led to an unfair portrayal of his character. However, his accusations of being edited out have been questioned by fans in the comment sections of his Instagram posts, as they pointed out that he appears quite frequently in all episodes.

His grievances come at a time when he's facing scrutiny for alleged misconduct, a claim that stirred a lot of online debate even before the new season aired. According to King, some aspects of his behavior have been misrepresented . This has forced him to defend himself against accusations he feels are damaging to his reputation. King is facing serious accusations following allegations of sexual misconduct raised by makeup artist Samantha Suarez . According to Rolling Stone , the incident took place in 2022, when King, reportedly intoxicated, grabbed her and tried to restrain her while she was escorting him back to his hotel room. King initially defended himself on social media against the allegations but later deleted his comments.

Following the accusations, Bravo issued a statement saying the claims had been investigated and actions were taken accordingly, as reported by Newsweek . However, the fans claimed that Bravo’s response was insufficient and raised concerns about the network’s decision to not hold him accountable. Some believe the show is trying to reframe King's image.

Although Bravo removed him from a scheduled BravoCon 2023 appearance, King has continued to be a part of the show. In fact, he has even expressed interest in eventually becoming a captain, despite the negative attention surrounding him. All of this has led to the fans speculating that Bravo may be downplaying the allegations.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 5 Recap: Nice Guys Finish Last

We’re back with the recap for  Below Deck Sailing Yacht  Season 5, Episode 5.  Last week , Chef Cloyce was late serving lunch, and the captain wasn’t happy about it. Daisy hired a mermaid and a DJ to celebrate the primary guest’s 60th birthday, while Cloyce’s birthday cake was a disaster. And Danni and Diana bickered over who does cabins and who gets to do service. Here’s exactly what went down in BDSY Season 5, Episode 5: “Bean Counter.”

What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 5?

In this week’s episode, Gary gets more frustrated with Emma in direct proportion to her own anxiety about her job performance. Danni thinks Keith should lighten up and be more flirty with her, but he’s just trying to remain professional in front of the guests. Danni’s ability to banter with the guests and make “the perfect three-bean espresso martini” annoys Diana. And despite Keith’s interest in Danni, she ends the evening swimming in the bay and making out with Gary. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 5.

More cooking, less swimming this charter

Charter number three is a “quick overnight charter,” according to Captain Glenn. Tiffany and Daniel from Dallas are the primaries. Tiffany was on The Real Housewives of Dallas . I never watched that one, but I’ve heard she’s a great woman.

Daisy gives Cloyce a pep talk and assures him that “we are in this together.” Hopefully, he’ll get his act together this charter and “bring up the bar.”

“ No swimming this charter ,” Glenn reminds him. It doesn’t seem like there will be much of an opportunity if it’s just an overnight – but let’s see how it goes…

Gary questions Emma’s lack of deck skills

Gary’s getting more frustrated with Emma. “I’m slowly starting to realize that her work ethic is not all there,” he says. “There’s no motivation or drive.”

The guests are only on the boat for one night, so as soon as they leave the harbor, it’s time for a sail. When Glenn wants to tack in the other direction, Emma is too slow pulling up the “lazy sheet,” and they lose the wind, coming to a standstill.

“Timing is very important because you can lose the wind,” Glenn explains. “If the timing is wrong, it’ll mess everything up.”

Finally, Glenn radios Emma to find out what she’s doing. “I can’t bring any more out at all,” she responds. “Nothing more is coming out.”

“This is f*cking ridiculous,” Gary complains, going to check on his deckhand. He tells her to throw her body weight into pulling the line out, and it begins to move.

“F*cking hell,” he mutters, walking away.

“Parsifal’s the biggest boat I’ve worked on,” Emma says. “Gary comes down on his f*cking white horse with his cape flying in the wind. And, of course, maybe I’m doing it wrong, and I’m just a poor little weak girl, and I can’t do it … I’m just f*cking inept.”

Later, Gary goes to the captain and asks to chat. “It’s come to my attention that Emma’s a lot greener than we originally thought ,” he says. “There’s a lack of urgency, lack of drive.”

Glenn thinks she just needs to understand “what’s going on with the sails” and tells Gary to keep working with her and see if she improves.

The missing espresso bean signifies bad luck

It’s Japanese night on the Parsifal III, so the guests of course want Japanese food.

“I am not an experienced Japanese chef,” Cloyce says in a confessional. “But sophomore year of high school, when we studied world cuisine, honed my craft in the Asian cuisine department. But that was a while ago. So, this is either going to be incredibly chill, or this will be the worst thing I have ever done.”

One of the guests requests an espresso martini, but when Diana delivers it, he says, “Excuse me, this is bad luck. It’s missing one bean.”

There are only two coffee beans floating in his drink. “I love health and wealth, but I need the happiness.” I did not know that, and neither did Diana.

But rather than apologizing and bringing him one more bean, she snaps, “I’m giving you decaf from now on.” Huh? That’s NOT how to treat a guest.

“Yeah, she hates you, bro,” one of his friends laughs.

“Diana, even if they’re an assh*le,” Daisy tells her, “Try not to let it get to you.”

Diana insists she was only joking and she doesn’t care, Daisy reminds her that “ they care.”

When Danni makes him a second one with three beans in it, he says, “That’s what I’m talking about! Three-bean classic. Cheers to health, wealth, and happiness.” He gives Danni a hug and says she’s the best. Diana looks less than pleased.

“It’s annoying to my ego ,” Diana interviews. “Go f*ck yourself.”

Emma’s anxiety gets the best of her

Emma’s got the anchor watch. Sadly, rather than finishing her work and monitoring the anchor, Emma falls asleep in the cockpit. When she wakes up, she has to scramble to finish all the cleaning she was supposed to be doing overnight.

“I definitely noticed a lapse in where I thought the boat would be in the morning,” Keith says. “At this point, the boat should be 100% dry.” He tells Gary that the deck was soaked when he got up.

“So what happened with rinsing the boat last night?” Gary asks Emma.

“I rinsed the boat last night,” she says. She doesn’t tell him she fell asleep and didn’t rinse it until 6:00 am.

At dinner, Emma and Daisy take a smoke break away from the rest of the crew. Emma tells Daisy that she feels like she’s screwing up and having anxiety about not doing a good job.

Daisy advises her not to take Gary’s criticism to heart. “The more you let it eat at you,” Daisy tells her, “the more you’re going to ruin your own experience.” Daisy’s had her own issues with Gary .

Emma’s anxiety is making her feel sick and shaky. She goes outside to get some air, and Daisy tells her she needs to drink some water “even though it tastes gross.”

“Emma’s definitely struggling,” Daisy says. She’s really hard on herself and in her own head. Emma decides to go back to the boat and get some rest. Daisy explains to the rest of the crew that she thinks Emma has heat exhaustion.

Danni finally gets the attention she’s been looking for

Keith thinks Danni’s being “cold” to him tonight, so he says, “Let’s get a drink and go chat.”

Danni feels like Keith decides when they can have fun. “I’m constantly flirting,” she says, but he refused to banter when they were on the cliff together. But he explains that he was trying to be professional in front of the guests. He’s not wrong.

“We’re here to do a job,” he says.

But when they go to the dance club, Danni switches her attention to Gary, which annoys Keith. Daisy consoles him in the cab on the way back to the boat. “Don’t ever be apologetic for being sensitive,” she tells him.

“Keith is such a nice person,” Daisy interviews. “He’s good-looking; he’s hardworking; he’s funny; he’s charming. I think he’ll be a great partner. That’s really unfair, but nice guys finish last.”

Back at the boat, Gary and Danni are in the hot tub together. She’s loving that he’s finally giving her the attention she craves. But will Gary and Danni’s hookup just cause more drama between her and Daisy ?

They end the evening by jumping off the boat into the water and making out. “Whoops,” she says.

Sailing yachts like Mike Lynch's are 'unsinkable bodies', CEO of boat manufacturing firm says

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

News of the sinking left CEO of The Italian Sea Group Giovanni Costantino in ‘sadness on the one hand and disbelief on the other’.

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Who Is Diana Cruz From 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Dating? Here's the Scoop

It's not clear who Diana is dating or if she's dating anyone. But fans are certainly intrigued.

Published Nov. 6 2024, 12:48 p.m. ET

When Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht kicked off, long-time fans were perhaps a little skeptical about what the season might bring. After all, it was a mostly new cast; only Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher, First Mate Gary King, and Captain Glenn Shephard returned while the rest were fresh-faced turnovers.

Among the newbies is a stewardess named Diana Cruz . Diana has garnered attention from fans for her spicy personality and beef with the Chief Stew. But little is known about her personal life. So who is Diana dating? Here's what we know.

Diana Cruz

This is who Diana Cruz from 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' is dating currently.

Diana posts on her Instagram fairly regularly. The young stewardess recently updated with pics celebrating her birthday, but has been fairly secretive about her exact age.

And this secrecy carries over into her personal life as well. It's not clear who Diana is dating or if she's dating anyone. But fans are certainly intrigued as they follow her every move on social media.

In post after post on her Instagram, fans flood the comments with remarks like, "beautiful!" and "So pretty!" Because whether or not they agree with her on-air behavior, they clearly love her personality and looks.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Diana Cruz (@dianacruzc_)

Diana made a splash upon joining the series.

Speaking of that on-air behavior, Diana did not come quietly when she joined the cast. In fact, she created quite a splash right from the off. Already within a season of joining, Diana has accused Chef Cloyce of taking her job.

In one episode, the chef stepped up to help serve guests as they were on a bit of a time crunch. Diana expressed her frustration, saying that the chef belonged in the galley and not serving her guests.

That relatively minor tiff aside, she's also butting heads with Daisy. On Episode 4, Diana was bored with serving drinks and helped herself to a libation. She walked off and left fellow crew member, Danni Warren, to serve drinks on her own. Daisy swiftly called her to task, telling the stewardess, "You left Danni to do them on her own. You're doing them next time."

Diana told Daisy she was "done," then told fellow crew members, "Do I have to work? That's the thing, like, she's not working. Why do I have to f--king work now?" Seeing that the trouble and Diana's boredom are surfacing after just four episodes, it's not promising for her longevity on the show.

Daisy came into this season promising to come down hard on crew members and keep things ship shape, and it seems like Diana is going to be one of the major ones looking to test her resolve at keeping the crew in line.

For now, they're just butting heads and jostling for position. In the future, Diana's brand of personal spice may end up getting her in trouble with the crew.

According to Tiffany, her favorite meal was the Japanese-themed dinner that Cloyce made.

"The flavors were incredible," she said. "The chef went above and beyond to accommodate everyone’s preferences."

While Cloyce readily admitted he's not a trained Japanese chef — and said during the episode that the meal could be "the worst thing he'd ever done" — he pulled it off. For the first course, he served prawn and crab avocado rolls. The main course was a miso-glazed sea bass, with rice that the guests said was "exploding with flavor."

Danni Warren From Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Everything We Know

of Danni Warren From Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Everything We Know

Bravo’s ‘ Below Deck Sailing Yacht ’ season 5 transported us to picturesque destinations over the globe with a largely new crew aboard the Parsifal III. As the team hosted guests and dealt with the day-to-day difficulties of working at sea, Danni Warren emerged as an intriguing crew member. Working and partying hard, the stewardess seemed completely at home aboard the sailing yacht. Her approach to the work-life balance often came close to bending a few rules regarding the yachting service, showcasing her free-spirited nature. She brought an undeniable energy to the yacht, from late-night parties to lighthearted banter, creating a fun atmosphere on board.

Danni Warren Struggled With Her Body Image

During her teen years, Danni Warren became very conscious of her weight. Considering herself overweight, she started going to the gym frequently and losing weight. The change was accompanied by a stream of compliments from people who hadn’t seemed to notice her in years. She was also able to join the cheerleading team at her university, further reinforcing the need to control her weight. She began to believe that everyone would like her much more when she was skinny, triggering a brutal weight loss journey involving undereating, counting calories, and avoiding social outings for fear of losing control.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DANNI WARREN (@dansdestinations)

The teen’s Apple Watch and food scale became integral parts of Danni’s life. She wouldn’t go anywhere without them, even counting the calories of the healthy vegetables she consumed. As she rapidly lost weight, the symptoms of her obsessions soon began to surface. Her heart rate and blood pressure were low; she lost her period for four years and felt perpetually tired. Beyond the physical turmoil and mood swings, Danni also missed out on a lot of her university life, avoiding parties, going sober for three years, and often refusing to share meals with friends and family.

When Danni shifted to Australia in 2022 and did not bring her food scale along, it gave her the opportunity she needed to break out of the vicious cycle. Initially, she was horrified when her weight started to increase, and she would eat to her heart’s content without weighing every meal. However, she began feeling much brighter and better, her fears melting away, replaced by a new passion for life. This opened the door to the world of possibilities Danni is exploring today, making new friends, embarking on thrilling adventures, and regaining the years she lost. Although she had a boyfriend in college, she does not appear to be in a romantic relationship.

Danni Warren Lives Her Dream Sailing Around the World and Freediving

Hailing from South Africa, Danni Warren has always felt a strong allure towards the sea. She quit her landlocked job in favor of becoming a yachting concierge and following her dream of touring the world by sea. With a powerful connection to the ocean, Danni quickly picked up the skills of her trade and easily adjusted to maritime life. With her ever-changing backyard of idyllic beaches, she began to learn freediving, holding her breath for longer and slowly going deeper as her body acclimated to the pressure. The hobby allows her to feel a deeper connection with the sea as she swims among the marine life in its domain. Danni has also used every opportunity to explore South Africa’s wilderness. She has been on a wildlife excursion in KwaZulu-Natal, observing rhinoceroses, elephants, and giraffes from very proximate distances.

Danni Warren Has a Profound Bond with Her Furry Companions

Accompanying Danni Warren and supporting her throughout her high school and university years was her best friend, Willow, a handsome rottweiler. He sadly passed away in 2024, leaving Danni looking back on the fond memories they had made together. “7 years ago, I picked the runt of the litter, little did I know I picked the dog that would become my soulmate too,” she wrote in an Instagram post in his memory. “Over the years, Willow has been my shadow, my bodyguard, and my best friend. I definitely feel like I’ve lost my firstborn, but to keep it in true Willow fashion, we all gotta keep being loud, chunky, and sassy. I will forever miss my baby, my soul dog, my Willowpoof.” Danni has a strong love for fur babies and has an adorable Dachshund who often accompanies her on her trips.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Recap: Emma Dilemma

Below deck sailing yacht.

150m sailing yacht

We’re blessed this week with two crew nights out and a guest being finicky about drink garnishes. However, the main through-line of the episode is Emma’s insecurities — much less fun. It’s 12:05 a.m. at the club, and Emma is overreacting to Danni and Diana overreacting about what seemed like innocuous questions. It’s magnified because Emma’s already insecure about work and not belonging in the group, and thankfully they’re able to let it go.

Danni hopes something will finally happen with Keith, but she tells Diana that she’ll never make the first move. Back on the boat, Danni and Keith share a lounger, and he admits he shies away because she’s coming on so strong. Danni tells us she has dated a lot of fuckboys in the past; she cites an ex-boyfriend who now lives with her former best friend, and she doesn’t speak to either of them. That reflects more on her ex-friend than ex-boyfriend, but we’ll file it under potential trust issues. Danni thinks Keith is wholesome and the opposite of this past toxicity. We love to see it! Unfortunately, she might not have the patience to wait for him. Spoiler: She doesn’t.

Davide isn’t getting much screen time, probably because he’s stuck in the engine room and doesn’t interact with everyone as much. The snippets of him so far are entertainingly chaotic. Because Glenn is still awake when they return from the night out, he invites Glenn to the Jacuzzi. Glenn: “One-hundred percent not.” Later, he almost falls naked onto Glenn while getting into his top bunk. He says in the morning it’s the bed designer’s fault and not his. It’s definitely his fault for being nude (why?!) and drunk, so I’m curious if this inability to accept blame will show up again.

The next charter is a one-nighter with primaries Tiffany Moon of The Real Housewives of Dallas season five and her husband, Daniel. Cloyce says he’s up to the challenge because he once cooked for a lesbian O.C. Real Housewife who was outspoken about the food. (I’m assuming this was Braunwyn Windham-Burke .) They’ve requested a Japanese-style dinner, and Glenn nudges them to pull out all the stops. Daisy also checks in with Cloyce ahead of the charter, reminding him to raise the bar. I’d say it’s at about knee height right now — plenty of room to grow.

When Daisy doesn’t know the weather forecast and Glenn gives Davide sailing instructions, the guests make jokes questioning the crew’s capability. This slight rudeness that keeps the crew on its toes is exactly what I want to see from guests. Tiffany’s friend Joyce remarks on the tight quarters, “I could barely get through with my Birkin.” We get it: You’re rich!

On deck, Gary’s starting to think Emma’s work ethic and drive aren’t where they need to be. While sailing, she’s tasked with pulling out the lazy sheet (a rope that can control a sail but is currently not in use), but she can’t get it to the mark. Gary has to show her that she needs to put more weight into it. She’s struggling because she hasn’t worked on this kind of sailboat with a hydraulic system. Gary goes to Glenn, warning the captain that Emma’s greener than they thought and lacking urgency. This seems unfair because (as far as we know) he hasn’t even talked to her about urgency. Glenn, bless his heart, advises Gary that she might need more instruction and to see if she improves.

Danni and Keith are assigned to accompany the guests on a beach sunset photo shoot. Danni, as usual, flirts with Keith, nudging him and muttering things under her breath to him like, “That’ll be us one day.” Keith shuts it down; he thinks she shouldn’t be flirting in front of the guests. Danni could’ve taken his comment about coming on strong as constructive criticism but has completely forgotten it. Frustrated, she likens his work belt to a chastity belt and feels as if she’s courting in the Victorian era. I say that’s partially on her if she won’t make the first move.

I’m nervous for dinner when Cloyce reveals he hasn’t studied Japanese cuisine since sophomore year of high school. Proving me wrong, he’s ready on time and his avocado, crab, and prawn rolls and tempura are really well received. One guest, Madelaine, calls out that normally the chef would present the food — is he struggling? Danni appropriately laughs this off and says he wants to make it perfect. Cloyce does make an appearance to present the miso-glazed sea-bass main course. Like the tempura, it’s not plated individually. It’s a successful dinner, though I wouldn’t call it pulling out all the stops, especially for a one-night charter. If I were the primary, I’d want five-plus courses of individual plating. I could get more than what Cloyce serves at Benihana.

The guests may not have criticism of the food, but Jerry “J Mo” is particular about his espresso martinis. Daisy double-checks that Diana makes it correctly, but he complains that it has only one bean. In response, Diana says he’s getting decaf from now on. She says she was joking, but it didn’t come across as friendly. Danni thinks Diana isn’t soft or bubbly enough for service, and this does seem like an example of that. Danni makes another espresso martini for J Mo — this time with three beans. He’s so pleased he hugs her and does a whole high-five–handshake thing. Of course, Diana doesn’t enjoy watching this. The beans are just a garnish, but the single bean is an apt metaphor for the bare minimum that Diana is putting in.

Also under par is Emma’s performance on the night shift. She prefers interacting with people and falls asleep for about an hour. We were all rooting for you! It’s difficult to keep rooting for her after this — she’s so lucky the anchor wasn’t dragging. When she switches out with Keith, she says she’s pretty sure she got the whole boat done. Keith sees that the cockpit floor is sopping wet since Emma just rinsed it in her last hour. It should be dry by morning, and he also reports to Gary that it doesn’t seem as though she’s shammying everything. Gary asks Emma what happened with rinsing the boat, and she gets defensive because she did rinse it. He instructs her to prioritize rinsing decks that the guests frequent first. I fear Emma is not long for the Parsifal III , but when she calls her sister, Lauren, for advice, Lauren reminds her it’s only six weeks. Maybe she will get through it. If she does, she’s definitely getting a Most Improved edit.

As Tiffany leaves, she says they were blown away by the crew’s professionalism and service level. She specifically shouts-out Danni for the best three-bean espresso martinis. If only this attention were enough … The tip is a very good $25,000, and Glenn is complimentary of everyone. Daisy thinks it was Cloyce’s strongest charter yet.

The crew heads out to dinner, and Diana hopes there are hot people there. I miss if there are any, because I can’t look away from Danni’s hideous skull ring. Emma’s not feeling well, so she goes for a cigarette with Daisy. Oh, the irony. Daisy advises her not to let things eat at her, and Emma knows that panicking is making it worse. She goes outside and sits down on the side of the road, which looks quite bleak. Sweating and feeling faint, Emma decides to go back to the boat. To the others, Daisy diagnoses her with heat exhaustion, kindly not mentioning the mental aspect.

At the bar, Danni just wants to dance, but Keith wants to talk. He asks why she’s being so cold with him, and she says it’s always on his terms when they get to have fun. She doesn’t like that he won’t banter with her on a cliff at sunset because of guests. Keith stands his ground; they’re here to do a job, and he doesn’t know his co-workers well enough to neglect it. Danni flippantly says she’s going to carry on with her life. Before cutting to commercial break, we get an ominous shot of the bar’s neon sign: “‘Trust me, you can dance’ —Tequila.”

Later, Daisy compliments Keith on him, Emma, and Davide helping out the interior. Danni hates that they’re talking about work and goes to dance with Gary, which includes some weird play-fighting. She calls it the best party ever, which it clearly isn’t. I don’t see anyone else dancing at 2 a.m. on what’s probably a Tuesday. While Gary throws Danni over his shoulder, Cloyce tells Keith he’s “getting really positive vibes from Daisy.” I think he has no chance, but there is a shot of them on the boat later hugging and she’s laughing. I shudder to think of it.

In the car on the way home, Keith confesses he hasn’t had a great night, so he lies in Daisy’s lap for comfort. She strokes his hair and tells him not to be apologetic for being sensitive. Is Keith about to swoop Cloyce? Nope: In an interview, Daisy says Keith would make a great partner, but she seems uninterested because he’s too nice. Keith, you deserve better.

In the other car, Danni jokingly chokes Gary (or maybe for real? He turns pretty red), and it seems as if they might kiss. Everyone else goes to bed while the two stay up to hot-tub. They see a group jumping in the water off the dock, so Gary suggests they also jump in. This is the attention Danni has been missing. In the water, they kiss. This first kiss of the season at five episodes in is uncharacteristically late for Sailing Yacht. At least it’s a faraway shot, so we don’t have to see any sloppiness. We’re spared from further horrors since that’s the end of the episode, but I’m not looking forward to seeing it replayed — or where they go from here — next week.
