74m Amels Limited Editions 242 delivered and named M&EM

The 74 metre Amels Project 242-07 has been handed over to her owner and christened M&EM . She marks the seventh launch from the yard's Limited Editions 242 series and joins sisterships Avanti and New Secret as she departed the Damen Yachting shipyard. 

Her royal-blue hull and ice-white superstructure have been designed by Tim Heywood , a continuation of the studio's longstanding partnership with the shipyard, with interior styling by Winch Design . 

M&EM features a dedicated forward-facing owner's deck complete with a hot tub with a large swimming pool on the main deck aft. An interior volume of 1,790 GT can accommodate up to 12 guests and 19 crew members, although the configuration of the cabins is yet to be revealed.

Project manager, Peter Dijkwel, said that Amels was "delighted to be handing over this beautiful yacht to her owners", calling it "a milestone which has been made possible thanks to the excellent collaboration between all parties involved." 

The yacht has been equipped with a clean emissions power and propulsion package to meet the latest IMO Tier III regulations. Unlike some of its sisterships, M&EM has also incorporated a modified stern as well as integrated hydraulic steps for swift access to the water.

Speaking on the new launch, Rob Luijendijk, sales director of Damen Yachting, said: “This design has captured the imagination of many clients and this one, in particular, is a great example of the Limited Editions concept." He added that the client was "able to customise many aspects to create a yacht that suits their specific requirements."

The eighth Limited Editions 242 hull was sold in December 2021 and is scheduled for delivery in 2024.

Superyacht M&EM (ex. Amels 24207) is a limited edition luxury yacht by Dutch shipyard Amels, and featuring exterior design by Tim Heywood. She is the 7th hull in the shipyard’s custom 242 series, and was first announced in 2020 with a delivery date of 2022. She sleeps 12 guests across 6 generously proportioned cabins, and her dedicated crew of 19 will look after your every need. Listing – Synthesis (by me)

This spectacular super yacht features a raft of outdoor spaces to enjoy time with friends and family. On the main deck, the space is filled with a variety of couches, sun loungers and convenient coffee tables, making this the ideal spot to relax in the sun.

If salt water is more your thing, simply head down to the swimming platform below via either port or starboard stairwells to gain easy access to the sea and water toys.

Above on the middle deck is the main outdoors dining area. This space is sheltered by the deck overhand above, providing guests with a comfortable place for al fresco dining.

The spacious upper deck above features a hot tub, with a variety of couches, loungers and tables. This area’s elevated position provides incredible views of the surrounding area.

Amidships on the main deck is an incredible 75 square-metre wellness centre. The centre can be configured to include a variety of wellness and relaxation options, including jacuzzi, hammam, sauna with outside window, gym, massage or beauty, shower and day head, inboard wet space, with a sofa and juice bar.

As well as the wellness centre, the main deck also features beautiful living and dining areas, with glass windbreakers ensuring uninterrupted ocean views.

M&EM Specifications

Above the main deck is the fabulous Owner’s Deck. This dedicated deck holds the Owner’s suite forward, an amidships office and lounge area, which flows through to the aft deck outdoors dining space.

She can reach a top speed of 16.5 knots, and has a nautical range of 5,000 miles at 12.5 knots.

Yacht Accommodation

The accommodation is for 12 guests across 6 cabins, which consist of: 1 Owner’s suite, 2 VIP cabins, and 3 double cabins which can be configured as either double or twins. The luxurious Owner’s suite resides forward of the dedicated Owner’s deck. The suite features king-sized bed, his and hers ensuites and dressing area, and tasteful décor throughout. Amidships is an office area and lounge, which connect to the aft deck and dining area. Below on the main deck are two generously sized VIP cabins, and on the lower deck are the remaining 3 cabins. An experienced crew of 19 will provide guests with a five star experience during their stay.

Gaming dApps integrate NFTs as in-game assets, allowing players to truly own and trade their virtual items. BAYC floor price plunged 91% from 152 ETH to 13 ETH since April 2022.

Monthly trading volume on OpenSea dropped from $641 million in February 2023 to $32 million in August 2024. This volatility affects creator income and investor returns, with many NFTs losing significant value post-minting.

Regulatory Uncertainty

NFTs operate in a legal gray area. Different jurisdictions classify NFTs differently, leading to inconsistent treatment. The U.S. SEC has not provided clear guidance on whether NFTs are securities, creating uncertainty for issuers and platforms.

In 2022, the first NFT insider trading case was brought against a former OpenSea employee, highlighting the need for clearer regulations and enforcement in the NFT space.

Copyright And Intellectual Property Issues

NFT minting of copyrighted material without permission is widespread. In 2022, DeviantArt detected over 245,000 instances of NFT art theft on its platform alone. This creates legal risks for both creators and buyers of unauthorized NFTs.

The relationship between NFT ownership and copyright remains unclear. Purchasing an NFT typically doesn't transfer copyright of the underlying work, leading to potential disputes over usage rights.

Sicily Yacht Tragedy: Captain of Mike Lynch’s Boat Under Investigation for Manslaughter

The captain of the Bayesian superyacht James Cutfield is under investigation after seven of the 22 people aboard—including six passengers and the ship’s chef— died after a waterspout struck and sunk the ship, as confirmed by prosecutors during a press conference Aug. 24 .

The New Zealander’s lawyer Giovanni Rizzuti confirmed to NBC News that a multiple manslaughter investigation has been launched into his client, alongside an investigation for causing a shipwreck. Rizzuti also confirmed Cutfield will be questioned again by prosecutors in Sicily on Aug. 27.

E! News has reached out to Rizzuti for comment but has not yet heard back.

However, that does not mean he will face charges. As NBC News noted, being placed under investigation in Italy does not imply guilt and does not guarantee formal charges will follow. Instead, notices need to be sent to people under investigation before authorities can carry out autopsies.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any of the other crew members will be put under investigation alongside Cutfield.

The news of the investigation comes after all six of the missing guests aboard the Bayesian were confirmed dead when the last body was found on Aug. 23 .

The seven victims have previously been confirmed—by news outlets or their places of employment—as British tech mogul Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah , Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy Bloomer and lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo . The body of the ship’s cook Recaldo Thomas was found shortly after the incident.

Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares was among the 15 people aboard the Bayesian who were rescued by a nearby vessel and then brought to shore by the Coast Guard after the boat capsized.  

The accident occurred on Aug. 19 when a violent storm struck suddenly off the coast of Sicily. Director of Sicily's Civil Protection Agency Salvatore Cocina previously shared that it was likely a waterborne tornado—known as a waterspout—that sunk the 180-foot vessel, noting that the yacht was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

One of the 15 surviving passengers Charlotte Golunski , who survived alongside her partner James Emsley and her 12-month-old daughter Sophie , previously detailed the terrifying moment the ship was hit by the storm.

"For two seconds, I lost my daughter in the sea, then quickly hugged her amid the fury of the waves," she told Italian newspaper La Repubblica Aug. 20 , per the BBC . "It was all dark. In the water I couldn't keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others."

Update : Authorities have yet to access the inside of the sunken yacht, and Mike Lynch is still classified as missing. Other details have emerged in the interim.

The accident appears to have been caused by a major storm and a resulting tornado-like water column that ensnared and damaged the yacht. Among the other six people still missing are Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter and Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer. The voyage was to celebrate Lynch being acquitted of criminal charges in the U.S., and several members of his legal team were also on board. (The ship was registered to Lynch’s wife, one of the survivors.) By a terrible coincidence, the other person acquitted in Lynch’s trial — Autonomy’s finance head Stephen Chamberlain — had died just a few days before when he was hit by a car while out jogging. Mike Lynch, the investor and high-profile founder of U.K. tech firm Autonomy, has been declared missing at sea after the yacht he was on, the Bayesian , capsized in a storm off the coast of Sicily early Monday morning.

TechCrunch confirmed with a source close to the rescue operation that Lynch is one of six people missing from the boat. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, is one of the 15 who have been rescued. One body has been found.

The news is a dramatic, tragic development for one of the more colorful, and sometimes controversial, figures in technology out of the U.K.

Lynch’s enterprise technology firm Autonomy was acquired in 2011 by HP for $11 billion — a major milestone for U.K. technology. But it quickly turned sour, and HP sued Lynch and other executives at the company, arguing it was misled in the transaction.

HP claimed that the deal led to a $4 billion loss — money it then demanded from Lynch and his former CFO. Lynch (pictured above, left) long asserted that he acted in good faith and that he was being made into a scapegoat over a merger gone bad.

That legal drama went on for more than a decade and involved a host of other thorny chapters, including Lynch’s extradition to the U.S. and a lot of very bad publicity for Lynch. It also led to a second civil case that took place in 2022 in the U.K., which Lynch lost.

The U.S. criminal case, where Lynch was charged with 15 counts of fraud and conspiracy, went to trial earlier this year in San Francisco. Finally, in June, Lynch was acquitted .

“I am elated with today’s verdict and grateful to the jury for their attention to the facts over the last ten weeks. My deepest thanks go to my legal team for their tireless work on my behalf,” Lynch said at the time. “I am looking forward to returning to the UK and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field.”

In the interim years, Lynch built up a profile in the U.K. as an investor, most prominently as the founder of Invoke Capital . The VC firm was the biggest investor in cybersecurity firm Darktrace, a connection that was not without its own controversy . It also invested in Sophia Genetics , Featurespace and Luminance, among others. And it appeared that this is the route that he was set to continue.
