RIVERBOATS IS A SURE START CHILDREN’S CENTRE

It is managed under the direction of the school and we work with the health visitors, midwives and the National Childbirth Trust to support the services we can offer to families with young children.

Aims of the Children’s Centre.

To deliver the DfE core purpose to reduce inequalities in child development and school readiness supported by improved:

• Parenting aspirations, self-esteem and parenting skills
• Child and family health and life chances

This can be achieved by:

• Enabling parents and carers to support the physical, intellectual and social development needs of children under five so that the children will flourish
• Providing support for parents, carers and children by working with early education, health and family support services
• Providing services that respond to the needs of the parents, carers and children in our local area.
• All parents, carers and children are welcomed
• Professionals, parents, carers and children show mutual respect for one another
• Services will be provided that strive to meet the actual needs of parents, carers and children

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE UNIT

The Riverboats Early Years Language Centre (RIVEYLC) is based in the River Room of the Riverboats Children's Centre, Upton upon Severn.

In the River Room, we provide a language rich environment to enable your child to build on their existing skills and gain both independence and confidence in a small structured, caring and nurturing group. Children are encouraged to engage and explore through a balance of child led, supported play and adult led 'individualised' focus activities. These take place in both our indoor and outdoor learning areas and are based round children’s current Speech and Language (SALT) targets.

Each child is supported daily through a variety of small group and 1:1 learning experiences, including working regularly with a speech and Language therapist or assistant. Your child will be encouraged to build friendships and socialise during their learning where adults act as key role models in a warm and positive manner. Children will also be supported to follow our daily routine taking part in daily whole class circle times, focus group time ,tidy up time and snack times.

We all work on the golden rules of 'kind hands, feet and words' through looking after each other and ourselves, which is embedded in all we do.

LETTING OPPORTUNITY:

The premises are also available to our families or organisations that support the ethos for lettings.  Further information is available from the school office.

Riverboats Children's Centre

Any parent/carer living in Upton upon Severn, Kempsey, Welland, Castle Morton, Pendock, Longdon, Elderfield and all areas in between with a child under 5 can join the Children's Centre.

Riverboats can offer Stay & Play Groups, Sensory Sessions, Introduction to Solid Food Talks, Speech and Language 'drop in' Sessions, Parenting Courses, Quit Smoking Advice, make referrals to Citizens Advice on your behalf, NCT Breastfeeding Support, Baby Massage, Child Safety advice, Trips and events in the Spring and Summer and lots more. Midwife and Health Visitor Clinics are both run from the centre.

Since January 2016 Riverboats has changed the opening hours to Monday Wednesday 9am-5pm only. All current groups and services will continue to run, with the exception of the 'Bouncing Beans' group on a Friday morning which will regretfully no longer be running at the centre. Outreach services at Kempsey Parish Hall on a Monday and Thursday will continue to run as normal.

If you have a question regarding any part of your child's development, behaviour, or need some support please do not hesitate to contact us and one of our Family Support Practitioners will be happy to help.

• Skippered boat hire

Our large boats can seat up to 7 people. They are powered by HONDA outboards, and all have a cuddy in the bow for protection from the weather. These beautiful boats have lots of character and plenty of seating and floor space for your occasion.

Picnic on the river

Skippered hire price: £80 per hour

Price is per boat and not per person and a minimum of 1 hour must be booked.

Decorate your boat

You are more than welcome to decorate your boat if you are celebrating a special occasion. Please be aware there is limited time in-between hires for cleaning and refuelling so any decoration would have to be done within your hire time. Further details can be discussed on request .

Food and Drink

Customers are welcome to to bring their own food and drinks. Or to make the occasion extra special why not pre-order one from our local picnic provider. There are a range of options to choose from. See the  ‘Pack a Picnic’  pages for more information.

Search the Starting Well website

Book an appointment to see a member of the health visiting team.

Our Well Child clinics are open to families with children under the age 5, to support you through the early years of your child's life. We may be able to offer support to help you manage those daily parenting challenges, from checking your child/baby's weight and feeding to guiding you through gentle sleep strategies and much more.

Please bring your parent-held record book with you to each appointment.

At these appointments/ clinics,  you will see/speak to a member of the health visiting team, but please note, the member of staff you will see/speak too will not be medically trained, if your child is unwell please contact the most appropriate service such as; Pharmacist, GP, NHS111 or 999.

In addition to these clinics, we are still running our stay, weigh and play sessions for babies and child under the age of 2, where you can can turn up and get your baby weighed. Please note: that at these stay, weigh and play sessions, no members of the health visiting team will be available to ask questions. 

Alternatively, if you wish to speak to a member of our health visiting team over the phone, please contact the Telephone Advisory Service (TAS) . The service is available Monday - Friday between 9:00am-1:00pm by calling 01905 520 032. 

Please do not bring unwell children to the Well Child Clinic as there is a risk of spreading infections to very young infants in the waiting room. If your child is unwell and needs to be seen the same day, please contact your GP or telephone NHS111.

Tewkesbury Boat Trips

Our 12 seater Tewkesbury boat Easy Tiger offers 45 minute trips around the historic riverside town of Tewkesbury.

All of our trips (apart from private hire) operate on a first come, first served basis so there is no need to book.

Please note all boat trips are dependant on safe river and weather conditions.

If in doubt, please check with the Tewkesbury Tourist Information Centre who will be notified if trips aren't running for any reason.

We are very excited to announce our pontoon boat, Easy Tiger, is now available for private hire on the River Avon in Tewkesbury. Ideal for small groups, families or even a romantic cruise for two! 

Easy Tiger can be hired for 1 or 2 hours at a time outside of our public operating hours. Hire always includes your very own skipper. 

You are more than welcome to bring along your favourite bubbly or picnic basket to enjoy on board.

We've re-written the 2024 itinerary of the Classic Severn Cruise to put you more in control of what you see and do. Although are fully organised cruises are very popular, some of our guests would prefer to cruise from place to place and visit the destinations at each port of call that interest them most. So, at a reduced rate to our fully organised cruises, you can now cruise with us and take your pick of what you go and see! Will it be an afternoon in a riverside inn? Or maybe walk the Shambles of Worcester or Gloucester Quays for some shopping? We've also organised an evening meal at the new Riverside Inn at Shrawley, where the resident chef is sure to impress you with his fantastic menu. 

Cruise To The Top Of The Severn Navigation

This cruise sails the full length of the navigable inland River Severn, from Gloucester to Stourport on Severn and is our only cruise which travels north of Worcester.

The Edward Elgar lowers her flybridge and upper deck to shoot under Worcester Bridge and then squeezes into locks only a few inches wider than her.

At every stop there is a Cathedral, Abbey, museum or place of historic interest. This cruise does not include specific entry fees other than for the GWSR, so you can chose what you want to go and see!

What do i have to pay and when.

Secure your booking with a 20% per cabin deposit. Balance payments must be paid in full 90 days before the cruise is due to depart.

I'm a single traveller. Do you have single cabins and single rates?

Yes. The Edward Elgar and Deborah only musthave twin cabins on board, but we do have single rates available on all cruises.   Please note that to make a single booking, you will need to do so by phone by calling us on 01452 410411 as single bookings cannot be booked online.

All our scheduled cruises will have at least one cabin available at a single rate. Cruises departing in April and October will have two single-rate cabins on every sailing.

Is there parking & is it secure?

Yes. We have on-site parking at the boarding point in Gloucester which is covered, locked and has CCTV.

Parking is £7 per night on our standard package and included in the "Plus" package.

I have reduced mobility, is this suitable for me?

We have been inspected by VisitEngland and received an M1 mobility rating. This means we are considered to be suitable for older and less agile guests with sufficient mobility to climb a flight of steps but who would benefit from fixtures and fittings to aid balance. Do you allow children?

Our holidays are designed to be completely laid back and relaxed. We do not usually allow bookings with children as it is an adult only setting. However, if you charter the vessel in full for Christmas cruises, we do allow children but we ask that children are a minimum of 7 years old for safety reasons.

Do I need travel insurance cover?

Yes. It is very important in case you have to cancel unexpectedly. We do not sell travel insurance but we will provide you with details of travel insurance providers that can arrange suitable cover for one of our cruises. You can use any insurer and we don't insist you use our partner insurer. It is important you purchase coverage as soon as you have booked your holiday. If you have an easy journey to Gloucester and don't have concerns about getting to us on time without having to rush, then maybe the standard package is for you. Plus Package
