How Long is a Yacht Charter Season?

With two main chartering seasons per year, discover the best time to hire a private yacht.

Chartering a luxury yacht is one of the most immersive vacations one can take. Unflappable service, ultimate privacy and the beauty of the open sea in a dreamy location; no wonder the industry is seeing a huge rise in interest. After unprecedented demand in both 2020 and 2021, this coming yacht charter season is once again set to be busier than ever, so understanding the yachting industry jargon is essential – especially for first-time charterers.

To help you secure the perfect charter yacht in the perfect place, Elite Traveler breaks down exactly how long each yacht charter season lasts, the difference between high and low season and what industry insiders mean by ‘shoulder season’, as well as the best places to travel are during different times of the year.

Yacht charter seasons explained

If you’ve never chartered a yacht before, deciphering the seasons can be tricky. There are actually two primary types of ‘season’: winter vs summer, and high vs low. Winter/summer seasons each last around six months and refer to both location and time of the year; summer yacht charter season spans from around April/May through October, while the winter season starts in November and runs through April.

The summer/winter seasons are dictated by the weather and water conditions, with areas such as Northern Europe and the Mediterranean most popular during the summer season, while destinations in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Florida dominate the winter yacht charter season.

High/low season (also known as peak/off-peak season), on the other hand, refers to the busier and quieter times the yachting calendar, with peaks in both the summer and winter seasons. During the winter, Christmas and New Year are the peak yacht charter periods, with July and August being the busiest in the summer season. During these times yacht availability tends to be more limited and prices are often higher.

Peak vs off-peak yacht charter costs

As with any vacation, booking a yacht charter during peak season will inevitably be more expensive. For example, the ultra-luxe Secret superyacht (who features a swimming pool, separate Jacuzzi, cinema room and fully equipped gym) is available to charter for €840,000 (approximately $990,000) during low season, whereas during both the winter and summer high seasons weekly costs begin at €875,000 ($1.29m).

You’ll also find that local events, such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, will impact yacht availability and weekly chartering costs throughout both high and low seasons.

Can you charter a yacht out of season.

Given that different parts of the world have different peak seasons, you’ll find that at pretty much any given time of the year, you will be able to charter a luxury yacht. However, bear in mind that the summer/winter seasons are primarily in place due to weather; while many luxury yachts are impressively durable, with explorer yachts designed to handle all weathers, yachting is generally best enjoyed in warmer climates and calmer seas.

So, while it may be possible to charter a yacht in Northern Europe during winter, you may be disappointed to find significantly higher rainfall and lower temperatures. Equally, while the Caribbean and Florida are both known for enjoying generally good weather all year round, don’t disregard the threat of hurricane season, which tends to be from June to November.

You may also find that your preferred yacht is only available in certain destinations at certain times of the year. For example, leading yacht charter company Burgess only offers the hybrid yacht Home for cruising in the Mediterranean during the summer season and in the Caribbean during winter. Ultimately individual yacht availability is dictated by her owner; if they want to enjoy their vessel for themselves during certain months of the year, she won’t be available to charter.

Shoulder seasons

When looking into chartering a yacht you will also hear of shoulder seasons, which refer to the periods that sit either side of the peak seasons, running from April – May, and September – October. For many, the shoulder seasons are the most preferable time to book a yacht charter: demand for boats, berths and anchorages tends to be far lower and crowds onshore will be smaller. For many, the weather is also more agreeable during shoulder seasons with a light breeze cutting through the heat of the sun.

How long is an individual charter?

In addition to understanding the length and meaning of different yacht charter seasons, you should also consider how long you want to be on board. Most charter companies tend to operate in week-long blocks, but the average is about ten days – again, a yacht broker will be able to negotiate your desired charter length.

However, while most people tend to charter for one or two weeks, those with time on their hands sometimes opt to charter for extended periods, with some even staying on board for an entire season. On larger vessels, onboard amenities will typically include office spaces (if not full conference rooms) and WiFi connections allowing for business to continue as usual during long-term yacht charters.

When to book a yacht charter

According to yacht charter company Northrop & Johnson , if you want to vacation during the peak seasons you should reach out to a broker no later than ten months in advance to ensure your first choice of boat and berths, with many yachts booked up a year in advance. However, three to six months ahead of time will usually be suitable for off-season yacht charters.

How Long Is a Yacht Charter Season?

Every charter destination has a “yacht charter season,” which refers to the months when cruising conditions are ideal and charters are most popular. For example, some destinations have a summer season like the Mediterranean, while others are winter charter season destinations (like the Caribbean).

But you might be wondering: How long is a yacht charter season?

Both summer and winter chart seasons last roughly six months. Yet, within each season there are also “high,” “low” and “shoulder” seasons. In both summer and winter, “high” or peak charter season – the time when chartering is most popular – lasts just 2-3 months.

Summer Yacht Charter Season

The Mediterranean is the world’s most popular summer yacht charter destination. The region’s beautiful temperate climate offers ideal conditions during the summer months, and hotspots like Cannes and the French Riviera, Italy, and Croatia beckon charter guests from around the world.

How long is the summer charter season?

Summer charter season in the Mediterranean begins in late-April and runs through mid-September. Summer in the Mediterranean not only brings warm, sunny weather; it’s also known for its many cultural affairs, like the Cannes Film Festival, the club season in Ibiza, and food and art festivals along the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Throughout the Mediterranean, peak charter season is just two months: July and August. Many yachts are fully booked during the peak season, and rates climb by about 10%.

Alternatively, New England in the U.S. is another popular summer destination, yet the season is a bit shorter: from mid-June through August, with the high season running from mid-July to mid-August.

Popular summer charter destinations:

If you’re looking for a summer charter destination, spots throughout the Mediterranean offer respite from the heat and humidity. Top destination for summer yacht charters include:

French Riviera Known for its cosmopolitan beach clubs and rustic charms, the French Riviera – including Cannes, Monaco and Corsica – offer ideal summer cruising conditions. The French charter season mirrors most of the Mediterranean, but generally starts a bit later, in mid-May and runs through September. The summer season coincides with many events popular with charter guests, including the Monaco Grand Prix, the Cannes Film Festival, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Italy With numerous charter regions, including Sicily, the Amalfi Coast and the Italian Riviera, Italy might be the world’s most popular destination for summer charters. Italy offers a bit of everything: Excellent cuisine and wine, historic sites to explore, and plenty of culture and nightlife. Italy’s charter season runs May through October.

Croatia Croatia – and its numerous islands – make an ideal summer destination, thanks to cool breezes off the Adriatic and its warm sapphire waters. Throughout the season, Dubrovnik, Split and Hvar all beckon charter guests, who escape to Croatia’s sparkling beaches, and upscale, historic ports of call. Dubrovnik, the historic walled city, is a popular charter destination in the summer, and it hosts numerous festivals throughout the charter season.

Greece Sun-soaked Greece is home to nearly 10,000 miles of coastline, along with beautiful islands like Santorini. In the summer months, Greece offers plenty for charter guests to experience, including beautiful beaches, UNESCO sites, and excellent cuisine like moussaka and Restina wine. Greece’s charter season is a bit longer: from April through October.

Spain Spain’s Balearic Islands are a legendary summer season destination, thanks to the all-night clubs of Ibiza and the islands’ sun-soaked beaches. Spend a night clubbing in Ibiza, or explore neighboring Formentera, known for its natural landscapes and hiking trails. Majorca is another must-see island, known for its historic churches, swank beach clubs, and world-class dining.

New England From the coast of Maine, to Newport, R.I. and Martha’s Vineyard, the tranquil ports along the East Coast in the U.S. are perfect for summer charters. The destination offers it all: Cosmopolitan villages, classic lighthouses, excellent golf, windswept beaches, and National Parks to explore. Looking for another summer destination in the U.S.? Consider Alaska, which is known for its glaciers and natural beauty.

Winter Charter Season

The Caribbean is a winter charter season mecca, as many escape the cold weather to the soak up the sun in the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Turks & Caicos, and the Grenadines. The Caribbean offers ideal cruising conditions throughout the winter months, including steady breezes (a must if you fancy a sailing charter), warm weather in the 70s and 80s, and hundreds of hidden beaches to explore.

Winter charter season is about six months long, and typically beings in late October, around the unofficial season kickoff, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and runs through March. Thailand, Tahiti and the Seychelles, and the South Pacific are also popular destinations for winter charters (and have a similar season to the Caribbean).

In the Caribbean, peak charter season is in late December, during the holidays, through March. The shoulder season in November and mid-December are popular as well and offer fewer crowds and reduced prices.

Winter charter destinations offer warm weather, beautiful beaches, and plenty to do and explore. If you’re considering a winter yacht charter, you might choose to travel to:

The Virgin Islands Both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands are some of the most visited islands during the winter season. Known for their laid-back island vibes, incredible sailing, snorkeling and diving, the Virgin Islands are perfect for an adventurous, island-hopping winter yacht charter.

Tahiti Tahiti has fast become one of the most popular charter destinations in the South Pacific, and it offers the ultimate in privacy and natural beauty. With islands like Bora Bora and Moorea, as well as black sand beaches, French Polynesia is the perfect destination for escaping the cold to snorkel, dive, hike and enjoy the beach.

Thailand Thailand’s beautiful islands and tropical coast offer the best in winter chartering. Thailand is perfect for snorkeling and island hopping, Full Moon parties and lazy beach days. The destination’s tropical climate, making for perfect winter charter conditions.

Turks & Caicos Upscale, yet unpretentious, Turks & Caicos – which is comprised of seven main islands, and more than 40 uninhabited cays and islets – is an ideal destination or winter snorkeling. The island’s beautiful coral reefs teem with colorful fish, rays, turtles, and sharks throughout the winter months.

Year-round Charter Destinations

Some destinations offer chartering year-round. For example, Florida is one of the most popular destinations, no matter the time of year.

The Bahamas With hundreds of islands to explore, there’s a new adventure around every corner in the Bahamas. Two of the region’s most popular charter destinations, Nassau (with its excellent golf courses, numerous beaches, and family-friendly atmosphere) and the Exumas (a stretch of beautiful islands), offer chances for R&R and adventures like swimming with pigs and sharks, cliff-diving, and snorkeling.

Miami & The Florida Keys Miami and the Florida Keys offer excellent cruising conditions throughout the year. The peak season in Florida is generally mid-December through March, yet a variety of luxury crewed charters in any month.

Yacht Charter Seasons: Where Can I go and When?

The world is bursting with incredible yacht charter destinations, from the ever-popular Mediterranean and Caribbean, to the South Pacific, the Indian Ocean, North America and beyond. Being presented with this dazzling array of golden beaches and picturesque coastlines makes it hard to choose where to go, but you can narrow it down by charter season. Figuring out yacht charter seasons can be a bit tricky, as they are classified not just as summer and winter, but high and low too.

Here we will take a look at the seasons and which destinations are best for a family yacht charter to help you choose your next holiday at sea. 

Yacht charter seasons defined.

Summer and winter seasons last around six months each, with the summer yacht charter season stretching from April/May through to early October, and the winter season running from November through to April. The weather is the most obvious factor in determining the best sailing or boating seasons, but low and high seasons within those periods play an important role too.

High and low seasons – also referred to as peak or off-peak seasons – focus on busier and quieter times in the yachting calendar. For example, Christmas and New Year mark high season points during winter, when demand is high, availability limited and prices sometimes higher. Likewise, the hurricane season of the Caribbean is an example of low season, when boats hunker down for a few weeks and allow the storms to pass over. In the Mediterranean, July and August are bursting at the seams, and mark the high point of the summer season. 

While smaller charter boats will usually be located in one place, and you can therefore charter them out of season if you choose, you can expect larger charter yachts such as superyachts to move from one region of the world to another as they follow the better weather. So if you have your heart set on a particular yacht, ask the broker for its annual charter itinerary. 

Shoulder Seasons

Shoulder seasons are a great way to make the most of temperate climates, fewer crowds, lower prices and more availability. They refer to the period either side of the high season, so in summer would be April and October, and in winter November and March, and offer fantastic opportunities for a budget yacht charter. As mentioned, larger yachts may have moved on to new cruising destinations by this point, but smaller boats or those who are locally-based will be able to offer less stifling weather, quiet anchorages and marinas, less demand for boats and discounted prices. 

Chartering a yacht out of season

Seasons have been long-established for a reason, but that isn’t to say you can’t charter out of season. We’ve taken a look at shoulder seasons, and your best bet is to stick as close to those as possible, but you’ll find boats at any time of the year. Keep in mind however that you’re choosing a time when the weather might not be favourable – rain or cold weather can put a downer on activities for example – or you struggle to find attractions and restaurants open. In off-the-beaten-track destinations such as Alaska, ice might hinder access to and from marinas, or strong winds such as the hurricanes which pass through the Caribbean from June to November might make cruising uncomfortable or impossible. 

Summer Season Charter Destinations

The Mediterranean is the golden girl of summer yachting destinations, with tantalizing coasts, ancient cities, beautiful islands and rich culture at every turn. From the glamour of the French Riviera and Italy’s Amalfi Coast, to the beauty of the Balearic and Croatian islands, it is the yachting capital of the world. But the Mediterranean isn’t the only summer destination worth visiting, with North America, the America’s and South Pacific on the list too. 

1. Mediterranean summer yachting destinations: Greece, Italy, Croatia, Balearic, Sardinia, French Riviera and Turkey.

2. North European summer yachting destinations: Consider northern European countries during the long summer days, where the UK, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic Sea offer up spectacular natural beauty, midnight sun, vast archipelagos and wild coasts. 

3. Alaska: Alaska’s wild lands, remote bays and bountiful wildlife make it one of the most adventure-filled destinations in the world. The summer months, with their long days and milder weather conditions, make for the best time to visit the gargantuan national parks, crashing glaciers and see once-in-a-lifetime wildlife.  

Winter Season Charter Destinations

The Caribbean is the focus of the winter yachting season, with St Barts, St Martin, the Virgin Islands and Bahamas the tip of the iceberg of what this island-spattered region has to offer. Yet think further afield too, and there are some dazzling destinations waiting for you.

1. Caribbean winter yachting destinations: Whether you opt for the pink sand beaches of the Bahamas, the perfect sailing conditions of the Leeward Islands, or the glamour of St Barts, you’ll find it in the Caribbean. From Jamaica’s legendary culture to the Dutch Antilles and Grenadines, there are corners of solitude, remote islands and lively beaches to discover. 

2. The America’s winter yachting destinations: Mexico and Florida share the same Caribbean waters but offer a completely different vibe for a yacht charter. Explore the flamboyant Florida Keys or venture along the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico in search of ancient ruins and wildlife-filled rainforests. 

3. South Pacific winter yachting destinations: There are few places dreamier than the South Pacific. Emerald-topped islands, golden atolls and fish-laden turquoise seas beg exploration, whether it’s a family holiday, romantic getaway or once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Countries such as Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Australia and Papua New Guinea offer virtually year-round charter opportunities the winter months are the driest and offer the most favourable conditions. Try scuba diving, climb hidden waterfalls or get to know the local communities of these far-flung islands. 

4. Indian Ocean winter yachting destinations: The Seychelles and Maldives offer some of the most sublime cruising destinations on the planet, their iridescent waters teeming with marine life and their beaches powder white. Sri Lanka has a rich history and national parks filled with wildlife, while Mauritius’ underwater world is a maze of colourful coral reefs. 

When to book a yacht charter

If you’re planning on chartering a yacht in the peak season, book early! As with anything where demand is high, the sooner you get your deposit paid the better. Out of the peak times, you may be able to secure a more last-minute charter at a discounted price (see our article on How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Boat? ). As a general rule, you’ll want to allow 10-12 months in advance during peak times, and three to six months in advance for low season charters. If you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring a Charter (as that term is defined in Section 1 below) for more than just yourself, all references below to “Charterer” or “you” (and derivations thereof) shall be read to mean you on behalf of yourself and each individual within your group for whom you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring Charter.

These Terms shall be read together and construed, to the fullest extent possible, to be in concert with any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer. To the extent they cannot be so construed, then in the event of any direct conflict between these Terms and any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer (including but not limited to the agreement executed by Charterer for a Charter Reservation (as that term is defined in Section 1 below), these Terms shall prevail.

• Prepaid Charter Reservations . Typically, Broker negotiates charter rates in advance with the yacht owner or charter company (“ Charter Provider ”) to obtain cost-effective rates, and facilitate reservations and availability for yacht charters, excursions and travel (the “ Charter ”). Broker also provides services to you by facilitating the booking of reservations for consideration and receives a commission from the Charter Provider (the “ Broker Fee ”). The Broker Fee is included in the pre-negotiated Charter rate provided to you, plus taxes and other fees where applicable. You agree that your payment is for the total amount set forth in the applicable Charter agreement (which Charter Provider may refer to as a Charter Contract, Charter Agreement, Booking Terms & Conditions, Instructions and Terms for Accommodations, as well as other derivations) provided to you by Broker (“ Charter Agreement ”). Upon execution of the Charter Agreement and receipt of the applicable deposit, you will have made a reservation for the Charter that authorizes Broker to facilitate the Charter on your behalf (“Charter Reservation”), including making payment arrangements with the Charter Provider. You further agree that Broker is a third-party beneficiary to the Charter Agreement and shall have the right to enforce such agreement to the extent it deems such enforcement necessary or advisable to protect its rights hereunder or under the Charter Agreement.

  Broker retains the Broker Fee as compensation in arranging your Charter Reservation. The Broker Fee varies based on the amount and type of Charter and/or services provided by Broker.  By making a Charter Reservation, you accept and agree to the relevant cancellation and no-show policy of the Charter Provider set forth in the Charter Agreement. Cancellation and no-show policies vary for each Charter. Carefully read the Charter Agreement and additional information provided to you by Broker. It is expressly agreed by Charterer that the Broker Fee is earned at the time the Charter Reservation is made. Late payment, wrong credit card or debit card details, invalid credit or debit cards, or insufficient funds are for your own risk and account, and you will not be entitled to any refund of any prepaid amount unless the Charter Provider expressly agrees otherwise under the Charter Agreement or in some other signed writing.

• Charter Rules and Restrictions . Additional terms and agreements will apply to your Charter Reservation and any purchase or rental of equipment or other items, supplies, provisions and travel you may select. Please read those additional terms carefully. In particular, if you have purchased airfare, please ensure that you read the full terms and conditions of carriage issued by the supplier. You agree to abide by the terms of purchase imposed by any supplier with whom you elect to deal, including but not limited to payment of all amounts when due and compliance with the supplier’s rules and restrictions regarding availability, charges, fares, and use of products and services.
• Payment . All payments must be made by personal check, bank/wire transfer, ACH payment and/or with a major credit card unless otherwise expressly stated. The total price for the Charter Reservation will be billed in U.S. Dollars unless otherwise stated. Some banks and credit card companies impose fees for international transactions. If you are making a reservation from outside of the United States on a US credit card, your bank may convert the payment amount to your local currency and charge you a conversion fee. This means the amount listed on your credit or bank card statement may be in your local currency and therefore a different figure than the amount provided by Broker for the Charter Reservation. In addition, a foreign transaction fee may be assessed if the financial institution that issued your credit card is located outside of the United States. Booking international travel may be considered to be an international transaction by the financial institution or card company. The currency exchange rate and foreign transaction fee is determined solely by your financial institution on the day that it processes the transaction. If you have any questions about these fees or the exchange rate applied to your booking, please contact your financial institution. Broker shall not be liable to you for any such service, conversion, or exchange fee.

  Broker expressly reserves the right to cancel your Charter Reservation if full payment is not timely received as set forth in the Charter Agreement.

• Cancellation and Rescheduling . You may cancel or change your Charter Reservation as set forth in the Charter Agreement by and among you, the Charter Provider and/or Broker. Please note that some Charter Providers do not permit changes to or cancellation of reservations after they are made, or after a certain date, as indicated in the Charter Agreement. You agree to abide by the terms of the Charter Agreement with respect to your Charter Reservation. Broker will not be responsible for reimbursing Charterer for any previously tendered deposits or payments by Charterer and disclaims all liability for the failure of a Charter Provider to refund or return any such funds.
• Credit Card Transactions and Chargebacks . If for any reason, any Charter Provider is unable to provide the Charter, or any part thereof, for which you have contracted, your remedy lies against the Charter Provider, and not against Broker. However, Broker will use reasonable efforts to assist you and Charter Provider in reaching a resolution to a dispute between you and the Charter Provider. In the event that your payment has already been transferred from Broker to Charter Provider or to an escrow account, you agree that you will not seek a chargeback against Broker for such amounts transferred. You further agree to indemnify and hold Broker harmless from and against any liability, loss, damage or expense (including without limitation, reasonable attorneys’ fees) that Broker may incur in connection with chargebacks against Broker or under the Charter Agreement and your performance thereunder. If Broker incurs any costs, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, to recover any payments charged back by your credit card company or other financial institution, you agree that you will be liable for these costs. If your payment is declined for any reason, you agree to settle any amounts owed to Broker via money order, cashier’s check, personal check or bank/ACH transfer immediately.
• Broker Responsibility . Broker makes arrangements with the Charter Provider. Broker additionally makes additional arrangements with other suppliers for the various components and other services that comprise your Charter (“Charter Suppliers”). Broker is not an agent of these Charter Providers or the Charter Suppliers (and the Charter Providers and Charter Suppliers are not agents of Broker). Broker expressly disclaims any liability for the actions or omissions of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. The Charter Providers and the Charter Suppliers reserve the right to refuse service to you at their sole discretion. Broker assumes no liability for the acts of the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers in refusing service. Broker is not responsible for schedule changes and does not offer compensation for those changes. Broker is not responsible under any circumstances for any injury or damages you may suffer, in connection with sea, air or ground transportation, hotel accommodations, or other travel or excursion services arranged by Broker.

  You understand Broker is not the source or supplier of the Charter or other travel services you requested and acts solely as a broker for the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. You agree that the Charter Provider and Charter Suppliers whose names appear in the information supplied to you are those who are solely responsible for providing the Charter you purchase. You consent to and request the use of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers and agree to not hold Broker responsible should any of them: (i) fail to provide the Charter or travel services you purchased, whether or not such services are listed in the Charter Agreement or otherwise, (ii) fail to comply with any applicable law, or (iii) engage in any negligent act or omission that causes you any sort of injury, damage, delay or inconvenience.

By using Broker’s services, you waive and release any claim against Broker, its affiliated and subsidiary companies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents, arising out of or in connection with any loss of or damage to property or injury to any person caused by reason of (i) any defect, negligence, or other wrongful act or omission, or any failure of performance of any kind, by any Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, or any other provider of sea, airline, hotel, ground transportation or any other travel provider connected to or otherwise associated with the Charter, (ii) any claim for inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, mental distress or other similar claim, (iii) any delayed departure, missed connection, substitute accommodation, termination of service or change in fares or rates, and (iv) overbooking, flight or other travel cancellation, lost or misconnected personal property, or any claim arising out of the air transportation portion of your travel, and (v) or any other claim arising out of or otherwise related to the Charter Agreement or services provided by the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers.

Excepting only liability that directly arises from the gross negligence or willful misconduct of Broker, you will not hold Broker responsible for any injury, damage or loss you may suffer while on a Charter, whether incurred on the Charter or in connection with any other rental, purchase, excursion or activity, regardless of the relationship of any of the foregoing with the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers.

• Your Responsibility . By booking a Charter with Broker, you agree to defend and indemnify and hold harmless Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees and agents, from and against any and all claims, causes of action, demands, recoveries, losses, damages, fines, penalties or other costs or expenses of any kind or nature, including but not limited to reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with: (i) your breach of these Terms or the documents referenced herein; (ii) your violation of any law or rights of a third party; or (iii) your use of the Broker website.

You will review your Charter Agreement and travel documents for accuracy upon receipt. You understand that it is your responsibility to review the accuracy of all details in the Charter Reservation provided to you, and that you may contact Broker if you have any questions.

You assume full and complete responsibility for checking and verifying any and all passport, visa, vaccination, or other entry requirements of your destination(s), and all conditions regarding health, safety, security, political stability, and labor or civil unrest at such destination(s).

You understand that Broker recommends purchasing travel insurance to cover certain risks inherent in travel such as supplier bankruptcy and the inability to travel due to a medical or personal emergency.

• No Warranties . All Charters, products, services, advice and information is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied to the fullest extent permitted under the law, including but not limited to, warranties of title or implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality or fitness for a particular purpose. Without limiting the above, no warranty or guarantee is made (i) regarding the acceptance of any reservation request or Charter Reservation; (ii) regarding the availability of Charters, or any other product and/or services through Broker; (iii) that the use of Broker’s website will be error-free; or (iv) regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability or quality of any information, content, data, service, advice or merchandise provided by Broker or through Broker’s website.

Broker has no special knowledge regarding the Charter Provider’s or Charter Supplier’s financial condition, unsafe conditions, health hazards, weather hazards, or climate extremes at locations to which you may travel during or otherwise in connection with your Charter.

• Limitation on Liability . In no event shall Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, and/or their respective affiliates, or any employees, agents, officers, directors, members or managers of any of the foregoing (“Broker and Charter Releasees”), be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special or consequential damages arising out of, or in any way connected with, your access to, display of or use the Broker’s website, the Charter or services provided to you in connection with the Charter (including, but not limited to, your reliance upon opinions of the Broker), whether based on a theory of negligence, contract, tort, strict liability, consumer protection statutes, or otherwise, and even if Broker and/or any other of the Broker and Charter Releasees have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

If, despite the limitation above, Broker or the Broker and Charter Releasees are found liable for any loss or damage which arises out of or in any way connected with any of the occurrences described above, then Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Supplier and the Broker and Charter Releasees will in no event exceed, in the aggregate, the greater of (a) the Broker Fee, and (b) One-Hundred Dollars (US $100.00).

The foregoing limitation of liability reflects the allocation of risk between the parties. The limitations specified in this section will survive and apply even if any limited remedy specified in these Terms is found to have failed of its essential purpose. The limitations of liability provided in these Terms inure to the benefit of Broker and/or its providers.

The foregoing does not affect any liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

• Limitation on Time to File Claims . ANY CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM YOU MAY HAVE ARISING OUT OF RELATING TO BROKER’S SERVICES OR THE WEBSITE MUST BE COMMENCED WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER THE CAUSE OF ACTION ACCRUES, OTHERWISE, SUCH CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM IS PERMANENTLY BARRED.
• Waiver . No waiver by Broker of any term or condition set forth in these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or condition or a waiver of any other term or condition, and any failure of the Broker to assert a right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
• Severability . If any provision of these Terms is held by a court or other tribunal of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be eliminated or limited to the minimum extent such that the remaining provisions of the Terms will continue in full force and effect.
• Governing Law and Mandatory Venue . The laws of the State of Florida govern the rights and obligations of the parties to this Agreement and the interpretation, construction and enforceability thereof. You agree that any action or proceeding initiated by Charterer against Broker shall be brought solely in the federal and state courts of Hillsborough County, Florida, and you submit to the jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objections to the exercise of personal jurisdiction over you by those courts. In the event any action or proceeding is initiated by Charterer in a court outside of Hillsborough County, Florida, Charterer agrees to pay Broker’s costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees associated with defending such action or proceeding and waives any and all defenses to the transfer of said action or proceeding, whether jurisdictional or otherwise, to a federal or state court in Hillsborough County, Florida.

Fishing Guides vs Fishing Charters: What’s the Difference?

Should you go fishing with a guide, or is booking a charter the better move? What’s the difference, in the first place?

Whether you want to go deep sea fishing or schedule a day on some secluded river with a fly fishing guide , if you’ve never paid to go fishing with a pro you may not be sure if hiring a guide or booking a fishing charter is the better way to go. And truth be told there’s no dictionary definitions that make it easy to understand the potential differences. In fact, many people use the terms “guide” and “charter” interchangeably and there are plenty of captains out there who might call themselves a guide one day and a charter captain the next. That said, there are some specifics that people can use to distinguish between the two to some degree.

What is a Fishing Guide Versus a Charter?

Let’s get the obvious out of the way right up front: both fishing guides and fishing charters are taking other people out fishing, for a fee. Generally speaking, fishing guides tend to run smaller boats, take fewer people, and usually work alone. Some take just one or two anglers for specialized experiences, like flats fishing on a skiff or fly fishing in a river from a drift boat. Many run relatively small aluminum fishing boats in lakes or inshore fishing boats in bays, often with up to four passengers. But there are also plenty of guides running larger boats which can carry up to six anglers.

Charters, on the other hand, can include USCG-inspected boats which are rated for far more customers. Many can handle groups of a dozen or two, and rather than being 20-something-foot boats they may be 50 feet, 60 feet, or even larger. Any boat rated to carry more than six passengers is generally called a charter. And as a rule of thumb these larger operations usually have a mate or sometimes multiple mates who help run the boat and set the fishing gear.

What does all this boil down to? While there’s plenty of overlap between guides and charters, as a general rule of thumb guides provide a more hands-on fishing experience. You’ll get the captain’s help, knowledge, and experience, but you’ll still be the one doing the casting and figuring out the right retrieve. At the other end of the spectrum, on large charter boats with big parties aboard the captain and mates will usually get the gear set or bait the hooks and call you in to reel up the fish after it’s already on the line . As a result, dedicated recreational anglers who want to learn just as much as they want to actually catch a fish will opt for booking a guide. But people who don’t fish very often or groups going out for celebrations or team-building excursions will commonly go the charter route.

Remember that all captains, regardless of whether they consider themselves guides or charters, must be licensed by the Coast Guard in order to take paying customers out on a boat. The most common license, called a “six pack,” allows for up to six passengers. So, many guides and/or charters will be limited to that number of paying customers regardless of the boat’s size or type.

Speaking of paying customers: the cost of a fishing charter is often going to be higher, and sometimes much higher, than hiring a guide. Larger boats have more maintenance and operational costs, so they charge more. Plus, remember that it’s good form to tip a fishing guide as well as a charter captain and the mates, so the “sticker price” of a fishing trip is just the starting point.

Which is Best for You: Fishing guides or Fishing Charters

If you have some experience fishing, love the sport, and want to become a better angler, hiring a guide is probably the best bet. Take a few trips with a good guide and you should be able to learn enough to get some appropriate gear, rent a fishing boat, and hit the water with a reasonable chance of catching a fish or two whenever you’d like.

If, on the other hand, you’ve never been fishing before and want to get an initial exposure to how things work, a charter might be a better move since it allows you to watch without having any real responsibilities or impact on whether fish get caught or not. It’s also a better move for large groups that may include people with different experience levels, or for groups that may have goals for the trip which don’t really revolve around fishing itself.

Most important of all is remembering that many of the pros out there straddle the lines between guide and charter. Some are more flexible than others and will tailor specific trips to meet the client’s preferences. The real key to having a successful, satisfying trip is to communicate with the captain prior to booking and get a good feel for whether or not they provide the type of experience you’re looking for.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch died of suffocation after running out of oxygen, an investigative source said, citing initial examinations carried out on Saturday after his body was recovered from the family yacht that sank off Sicily's coast last month.

Lynch, his daughter Hannah, 18, an onboard cook and four guests died when the British-flagged superyacht Bayesian sank during a severe and sudden weather event off the port of Porticello, near Palermo, on Aug. 19.

Initial results on Hannah Lynch's body, whose examinations were carried out on Saturday, were inconclusive, the source told Reuters, only ruling out any traumas or wounds as the cause of death and leaving open the possibilities she either ran out of oxygen or drowned.

The bodies of the dead, except for the cook, were found in cabins on the left-hand side of the 56-metre (184-feet) vessel, where the trapped passengers may have tried to search for remaining bubbles of air, the head of Palermo's Fire Brigade said last month.

Preliminary results from autopsies on four other victims - Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith, lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda - indicated suffocation as the likely cause of death, judicial sources said earlier this week.

Fifteen people survived, including Lynch's wife, whose company owned the Bayesian, and the yacht's captain.

Initial examinations of the Canadian-Antiguan onboard chef Recaldo Thomas indicated he died by drowning, the investigative source said on Saturday.

Further forensic tests have been ordered all the victims, with results expected in the coming weeks, the source said.

The sinking has puzzled naval experts, who said a vessel like the Bayesian, built by high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, which is owned by The Italian Sea Group, should have withstood the storm and not have sunk as quickly as it did.

Kismet, which will debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, features luxury amenities and can host 12 guests.

Added costs for provisions, gratuities, and taxes can raise the weekly charter cost to $5.4 million.

The superyacht belonging to Shahid Khan, the owner of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars who is worth $13.3 billion, according to Forbes, is officially available for charter.

Kismet, Khan's new yacht, will make her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month.

The 122-meter yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests — and a crew of 36 available to serve them — and, like any superyacht worth its weight, has some special amenities .

A "Balinese-inspired" spa features a hammam, sauna, and cryotherapy chamber, as well as a massage table and chromotherapy bathtub offering some sort of color-related treatment. For more active wellness, there's a gym, basketball court, and pickleball court.

There are three pools — two are jacuzzis — spread over six decks, four outdoor showers, four bars, four fireplaces, two fire pits, and one helipad. For your viewing pleasure, there is an outdoor cinema, and for your listening pleasure, a DJ booth and grand piano.

And because billionaires love to play, there is a suite of water toys aboard, including Jet Skis, SeaBobs, e-foils, and WaveRunners.

Khan is a committed superyacht owner. His previous superyacht, also named Kismet, was purchased by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt last year. While its final sales price was not disclosed, it was listed for about $160 million. Renamed Whisper, the yacht was built by the same German shipyard as the new Kismet, Lürssen, and measured 95 meters.

"The yacht has exceeded all expectations of the client for whom we have built his third yacht in total," Peter Lürssen, a managing partner at Lürssen, said in a statement about the newest Kismet.

Kismet is the largest yacht on display at the Monaco Yacht Show, which will feature 120 superyachts . Renaissance, the second largest at 112 meters, charters for the same weekly price of $3 million.

While the nine-figure sales prices of these yachts make their seven-figure charter rates seem like a bargain, renting out a superyacht is not for the faint of wallet. In addition to the charter fee, there are costs associated with provisions which can come to as much as 40% of the fee; gratuities, as much as 20% of the fee; and taxes, also as much as 20%. That means a week aboard the Kismet can actually cost as much as $5.4 million.

A 100m+ Charter Motor Yacht currently in the Mediterranean, is looking for an experienced Female Deckhand.

This is a great opportunity for a Female Deckhand to join a busy dual season charter yacht.

The package includes a salary of up to 3500 euro per month DOE, a 3:1 month rotation with flights, a training scheme is in place, an annual pay review/increase plus charter tips.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1-2 years yachting experience, hold their STCW, ENG 1, Power Boat Level 2, Personal Water Craft Instructor is a great advantage.

The candidate must be confident to train/supervise guests with water sport activates and foiling experience is advantageous.

The position is only open to Female candidates due to cabin arrangements and the yacht has a no smoking policy.

You can visit Greek Islands on your Turkish gulet charter vacation, but you will need to embark and disembark in a port in Turkey unless it has a Greek Charter Licence - which is very rare.

If you are chartering a yacht in the Mediterranean for the first time, we strongly recommend the classic 7-day Mediterranean yacht charter route. Mediterranean Yacht Charter Q&A

We advise booking your Mediterranean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Mediterranean.

One of the wonderful aspects about renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is the exceedingly long season. For example in West Mediterranean locations like France, Spain and Italy, the best time to visit is usually from May until September. This balmy weather extends to well into October in East Mediterranean destinations like Greece, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey.

For your Mediterranean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.

When booking a Mediterranean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests. 

Please consult your yacht charter broker for any other costs you may need to factor in for your yacht charter in the Mediterranean.

The GranTurismo 10.5 has a larger interior than previous models, with a spacious cabin for up to two guests and a separate bathroom with a full-height shower. The RIB can welcome 20 seafarers in total and the high tubes allow guests to move about safely, Lomac says.

As for grunt, the GranTurismo 10.5 is equipped with two Yamaha V-6 outboard engines that churn out 350 horses each for a top speed of more than 50 knots. Seafarers can also opt for two, less powerful 250 hp outboards for a max speed of 45 knots. Lomac says the boat is capable of both medium-range cruising and adrenaline-inducing sprints. The yard adds that the Twinshell hull offers “superior sailing efficiency,” meaning the GranTurismo 10.5 will use less fuel than similar-sized competitors.

Lomac will display the new GranTurismo 10.5 alongside the GranTurismo 14.0 X, the GranTurismo 12.0, and the Turismo 9.5 at the Genoa Boat Show from September 19 to 24. Sea trials are available upon request.

Middle East latest: Israeli hostage speaks in Hamas video; defiant Netanyahu hits out at UK arms ban

Hamas has released a video of one of six Israeli hostages whose bodies were recovered by the IDF at the weekend. It shows Eden Yerushalmi, whom Israel says was murdered by Hamas, delivering a message directed at Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

• Hamas released a video of Israeli hostage Eden Yerushalmi, who Israel says was murdered. It is not clear when the footage was taken or the circumstances of how it was filmed, but in it, Ms Yerushalmi, delivers a message directed at Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and says she misses her family. 
• It comes as Mr Netanyahu called the UK government's decision to suspend 30 arms licences to Israel "shameful". In a number of posts on X, the Israeli leader said with or without British arms, "Israel will win this war and secure our common future".
• The IDF said it killed a Hamas commander who helped orchestrate the 7 October attack on a settlement in southern Israel. In a post on Telegram, the IDF said Ahmed Fawzi Nasser Muhammad Wadiyya was among eight Hamas militants "eliminated" in the attack;
• Wadiyya is said to have invaded the village of Netiv HaAsara using a paraglider and "took command of the massacre of civilians". 
• The head of the UN Palestinian refugee agency has said the people in Jenin in the Israeli-occupied West Bank have faced six days of "violence and destruction" after the IDF launched raids across the territory and sealed off the city.

An estimated 11 people were killed and others were wounded in an Israeli strike on a building once used as a school in Gaza.

Two strikes targeted the area just minutes apart, the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service said on Monday.

The IDF said the school was being used as a Hamas command centre.

Companies hoping to salvage a tanker that was attacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea and left on fire have hit an obstacle.

The tanker is full of crude oil and presents a "significant environmental threat", but the EU naval mission Aspides has said the private companies trying to salvage it have concluded it is not safe to tow away and "alternative solutions are now being explored".

The Yemen-based Houthis have launched repeated attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, which they claim have links to Israel. 

The vessels have often had no, or very limited, links to the country. 

After Benjamin Netanyahu's criticism of the UK's decision to ban some arms to Israel our  Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall  explains Labour's decision to take a fresh approach.

Labelling the Israeli prime minister's more "angry" than "dismayed," Bunkall says the new Labour government is determined to turn a new page in the war.

"The first thing they did when they came into power was restore funding to UNWRA [the UN Palestinian refugee agency], which Israel has repeatedly tried to link to Hamas and discredit.

"The second thing was to remove the objections that the Tory government had made to the attempt to seek arrest warrants through the International Criminal Court, and now this.

"So, we are seeing in British politics a very different, tougher approach towards Israel than we saw previously."

While Bunkall says the practical impact of the partial arms ban will be minimal, he says the diplomatic repercussions will be a different story.

"Israel, the last time we had records, imported 0.02% of its weapons from the UK. It's nothing, it's minuscule.

"But diplomatically, for this to have been announced by a close ally of Israel's is awkward, to say the least."

A city in the Israeli-occupied West Bank has faced six days of "violence and destruction", the head of the UN Palestinian refugee agency has said.

Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), posted on X that residents in Jenin have been caught in the middle of "an Israeli military operation, armed clashes and the use of explosives by Palestinian armed groups".

He said this has been responsible for death and injuries among civilians and has limited access to food, water and medicine.

Images emerging from Jenin today show damaged roads and huge amounts of rubble as civilians attempt to navigate through the city.

Israeli security forces and military vehicles were also pictured.

For context: The Israel Defence Forces launched raids across the occupied West Bank and sealed off the city of Jenin last week in what the Israeli foreign minister described as a "full-fledged war" against "Islamic-Iranian terrorist infrastructures".

The armed wings of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah said in separate statements that their gunmen were fighting Israeli forces in the three West Bank areas.

Jordan has praised the UK's decision to ban some arms sales to Israel, calling on countries around the world to impose "a complete arms embargo".

Foreign minister Ayman Safadi urged "an expansion of this suspension" announced by David Lammy, the foreign secretary, yesterday and added: "Unless consequences are real, Netanyahu will not end his aggression on Gaza and the West Bank, and will not stop violating international law and threatening the security of the whole region."

Jordan shares a large mutual border with Israel, with its military cooperating with the Israeli military to keep the border secure.

The small kingdom is home to the highest number of Palestinians in the world living outside the territories, and the Jordanian Queen, Rania, is of Palestinian origin.

The grandson of an Israeli hostage has said "time is running out" to rescue still in Gaza after the recovery of six bodies over the weekend.

Daniel Lifshitz told Sky News that he was "very worried" for his 84-year-old grandfather Oded Lifshitz, who has been held hostage for 330 days.

He said he believes the six hostages - Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Ori Danino - were "shot and executed" by Hamas militants but does not know why.

"When I heard six bodies had been rescued, I was very worried that my grandfather might be there, we knew there was going to be bad news about hostages," Mr Lifshitz said.

"I am very close to the families of Carmel Gat and Hersh Goldberg-Polin and it was such a [heart]breaking moment.

"Now we know that time is running out because hostages are being executed.

"I am so worried that something like that will happen to the rest of the hostages and if there are no hostages, there may not be a ceasefire deal."

Mr Lifshitz said his grandfather did "everything in his life for the co-existence with Palestinians" and the rights of minorities.

"He is the only great-grandfather being held hostage in the world, I am so devastated for humanity," he said.

Mr Lifshitz called on the Israeli government to "find a solution to end all suffering" adding that it is clear the government are currently not doing enough as "the hostages are not here".

A third night of protests in Israel has been organised by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.

The volunteer-led organisation, which supports hostage families, said a "huge demonstration" led by young relatives would begin in Tel Aviv at 7pm local time (5pm UK time), with demonstrations planned outside the homes of foreign minister Israel Katz and agricultural minister Avi Dichter.

"Only a powerful public protest that will shake the country will bring everyone home!" the group said.

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis joined protests on Sunday after the bodies of six hostages killed in Gaza were found late on Saturday night. More demonstrations were held yesterday as part of a general strike called by Israel's biggest labour union over Benjamin Netanyahu's failure to agree a ceasefire deal, with roads blocked, some clashes with police and multiple arrests.

The Hamas-run health ministry says at least 40,819 Palestinians have now been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since 7 October - up from 40,786 yesterday.

The figures reported by the ministry do not differentiate between fighters and civilians.

A further 94,291 have been injured, it added.

For context: While some Israeli officials have sought to cast doubt on fatality figures given out by the ministry in Gaza, a number of independent groups say they have proved to be largely reliable and broadly in line with those later produced by the UN and Israel itself.

The figures do not distinguish civilians from Hamas militants, but the Israel Defence Forces said it had "eliminated" 17,000 Hamas fighters inside Gaza as of 15 August.

Palestinian medical staff are back working at the Al Shifa hospital after the repair and reopening of its emergency department.

It was damaged in an Israeli offensive five months ago in Gaza City.

Once the biggest and most advanced medical facility in Gaza, it became a battleground in the war after Israel claimed there was a Hamas headquarters hidden in tunnels below the building. Hamas and hospital workers denied the claims.
