Motor Yacht

Launched in 2005, the 60.35 metre superyacht Blue Moon stands testament to meticulous design by Donald Starkey and expert construction by Feadship. Custom-built, this superyacht was refitted in 2008 and is ideal for sole-family use or perfect for long-journeys with charter guests.

With space on board for 12 guests, accommodation consists of a full-beam on-deck master suite, with office and guest room / gym, measuring approximately 1200 sq ft. The grand Owner’s suite is joined by two twin cabins connected to two queen cabins to offer a layout transformation from cabin to full suite. Her layout also provides space for 13 staff of highly skilled yacht crew and her Captain, making life on the water idyllic, down to the last detail.

Her glass cylinder elevator, large skylight in the sundeck, touch-and-go helicopter pad and updated 1972 Riva tender are just some of the design elements on board. This quintessential family boat benefits from the input of designer, builder and owner. Her interiors, also created by Donald Starkey, are a rich make-up of dark woods and light creams, expertly blended to create a stately home feel on the water.

Blue Moon 198'(60.35m) Feadship For Sale

Posted June 24, 2021 in Brokerage & New Build by Janine St.Denis

The 198-foot (60.35m) Feadship superyacht BLUE MOON is now listed for sale with Northrop & Johnson Yacht Brokers Kevin Merrigan and Wes Sanford. The yacht is listed for €43,900,000.

BLUE MOON is a truly remarkable superyacht. She was launched by Feadship in 2005, but has benefitted from constant and consistent upgrades, updates and care throughout her life courtesy of her adoring owner and her professional long-time crew. Some of her most recent modifications include a full superstructure repaint in 2018, the upgrade of her Quantum Zero Speed stabilizers to XT fin-type in 2019 and the repaint of her hull and main-deck bulwarks in 2021. The yacht’s interior and exterior both were designed by the renowned Donald Starkey. As such, BLUE MOON has won a variety of awards throughout her life, including “Best full-displacement motor yacht over 56 meters” at the 2006 ShowBoats Awards, among others.

In addition to providing the perfect on-water sanctuary for her owners, this pedigreed luxury motor yacht also has enjoyed a successful charter following. BLUE MOON’s exceptional features are certainly a draw. The yacht has a glass all-decks elevator, an observation lounge that provides sweeping views and a unique and flexible accommodations layout that can cater to almost any type of charter requirement. Furthermore, her on-deck master suite is expansive. At 1,200 square feet, it is no wonder this suite has space for a bedroom, his-and-hers en-suite bathroom, full owner’s office and a private gymnasium. The five additional staterooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, located on the lower deck can be converted to create a three-, four- or five-stateroom layout. This lower deck has an additional gym for guest use.

BLUE MOON features traditional interior styling with comfortable amenities that will delight guests. Various lounge spaces, bars, dining tables and entertainment options are found throughout the yacht. On deck, the yacht provides alfresco dining, a Jacuzzi, sunpads, a swim platform and so much more.

About Blue Moon

The owner's first Feadship experience was a two-week cruise on September Blue in the mid-1990s. An immediate convert, he soon bought the 47.50m Mi Gaea , which was renamed Blue Moon . Not long after, the designs for a brand-new Feadship were on the table and the second Blue Moon - at 50.28m the largest aluminium Feadship ever built at the time - was launched in 2000. The third Blue Moon was launched in 2005.

All About August's Rare Super Blue Moon and What It Means for Your Zodiac Sign

This month's full moon is nicknamed the 'Sturgeon Moon' and peaks on Aug. 19, 2024

blue moon yacht location

August's full moon is more than just your average moon!

That's because this month's full moon, nicknamed the Sturgeon Moon, will double as a rare blue moon and supermoon when it rises into the summer's night sky at 11:25 a.m. PT on Aug. 19, 2024.

Lunar and astrology lovers, get excited because this celestial phenomenon will not only produce a spectacular glow as the moon radiates at its peak, but it will also boast ample astrological significance at the same time.

First and foremost, PEOPLE's resident astrologer Kyle Thomas says the energy of August's full moon in Aquarius will be "infused into our lives," especially since the Air Sign is the eleventh sign on the zodiac wheel and is the polarity of Leo.

"This means that both zodiac signs hold ties to our passions, sense of expression, aspirations and how we connect to others whether that is in love or friendship," he says, adding that the supermoon element will make the energy feel " slightly more intense " compared to typical full moons.

Add the fact that it's going to double as a blue moon — or, an extra full moon in a season — Thomas says, "We may notice that situations feel more emotional this summer and many major events are arising."

Lastly, August's full moon peaks almost exactly one month prior to the upcoming lunar eclipse on Sept. 18, 2024. Thomas predicts “news that is destined” to arrive around the upcoming solar eclipse “could be delivered” earlier.

Read on for what August's full super blue moon means for you according to your zodiac sign, per Kyle Thomas' predictions!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Prepare to feel bliss in nearly every single way, Aries! "You are likely to feel practically euphoric," predicts Thomas.

As the full moon arrives, he says "it will ignite your social sector to likely surround you by many near and dear friends." He notes this is a great time to "throw a party, attend a mixer or try building your social media network online."

If you’re single, Thomas suggests you "try meeting someone new through your acquaintances or update that dating profile."

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Get ready to soar through the sky like a shooting star, Taurus. "A wildly important turning point in your professional world could now be here!" predicts Thomas.

"Your brilliance, success and glory could literally light up the night," he adds. "Major professional achievements or victories could be right around the corner, whether that’s in the form of a promotion, favorable publicity, an award or a new job offer."

Don't just sit around, Taurus. "Use this period to highlight your ambitions and reach toward them now," Thomas suggests.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Embrace your adventurous side, Gemini! "The full moon will push you to explore horizons beyond your wildest dreams," says Thomas.

"You have a deeply curious nature that will be activated at this time," he notes. "Use your enthusiasm to pursue long-distance travel or consider places you’d like to visit in the year to come."

Involved in media, publishing, legalities or academics? Thomas predicts "a turning point is upon you" if so.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Intimacy and how closely you trust another will be spotlit at this time, Cancer. "You could notice that you and someone you are attached to have to discuss some serious plans ahead," predicts Thomas.

"If you aren't happy, you may separate or be dealing with the final bits of a settlement," he says. "If you are aligned, you could feel ready to merge closer in body, mind and spirit."

Thomas adds, "Assets and investments are also important near this time — so buy, sell or expect an important shift."

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

A profound moment around connection is here for you, Leo! "Partnership is the big focus at this time," says Thomas.

The full moon will "energize you to be attracted more closely together like magnets," he explains — or rather the opposite, "Split apart like a firecracker." He adds, "Happy connections will see union, commitment an engagement or even marriage."

If you're in an unhappy relationship, Thomas says you may see "the sudden revelation that it’s time to divorce or break up instead." He notes, "Singles can use this energy to set up dates with someone who possesses long-term relationship potential."

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

It's time to hustle, Virgo, you got this! "You’re often one of the busiest and most productive zodiac signs of all and this full moon will add even more on your plate," predicts Thomas.

"You could be tidying up a big career or job-related project or even leaving one employer behind to begin with another," he explains. "If seeking a better work-life balance, be sure to assess it this week."

Another great way to capitalize on this cosmic flow? "Revamp your diet or fitness plan," he says.

If you're looking for a pet, Thomas randomly — but excitingly — puts forth that the full moon "may also offer one to you."

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Prepare to feel the magic, Libra! "Let passion consume your mind and heart," says Thomas.

"As the full moon ignites within the sky, you could feel like you’ve found that mysterious pot of gold at the end of the rainbow," he says. "This is the most important lunation for singles to put themselves out there, line up dates and see if they speak to your soul."

Thomas says, "Couples can use this vibe to bring more spice into their relationship. Creativity and fertility are also spotlit at this time."

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Let’s dial it in, Scorpio. "Home, family and domestic concerns will be on the top of your mind," says Thomas.

"You may be shifting from one location to the next, getting into real estate or deciding to renovate or redecorate," he puts forth. "Another way this could affect you is that you need to step in to help a family member, potentially a parent."

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

You’ll really start to feel the momentum now, Sagittarius! As the full moon arrives, Thomas predicts "you’ll be bursting at the seams to blast your ideas and thoughts to the world."

He says "you may be debuting a big communications-related project," like "a website revamp or updating your portfolio." The lunation may also "bring a contract for you to assess and sign."

Lastly, Thomas says "you could be bounding around on a road trip or flight" if you're schedule allows .. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Money on the mind, Capricorn! "A large check or hefty expense is on the docket," predicts Thomas. "Money is coming and going out of your accounts at this time."

Fortunately, Thomas says this is "a fabulous time" to invest or look into building your wealth even more — plus, a new raise or job offer could also present itself. "If you’re looking to monetize more, look for a new employer or side hustle," he adds.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Set off the fireworks, Aquarius, you’re the powerhouse now! "Step into the spotlight because you’re the main event," says Thomas.

"You will now see the realization of a dearly important personal project, hope or dream," he explains. "You must stand in your power and assert yourself and command your way like you’re royalty."

Thomas adds, "A big shift or revelation may manifest around a personal relationship, too."

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

It's time for some TLC, Pisces! Head to the spa, rest up and turn your alarm off so you can sleep in or nap.

This lunation could have you feeling "a bit overworked and burnt out," Thomas says, but it's also "giving you the chance to recharge your batteries" at the same time. "Pay attention to your dreams and any hunches that come through."

August's full moon could affect you in a totally different way, too. "If you've hidden a secret — or someone else has from you — it may pop out now," Thomas adds.

Everything you need to know about tonight’s ‘super blue moon’

G RAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Is Monday’s super blue moon actually a blue moon? The terminology has left some stargazers confused and led to arguments across the internet.

NASA says yes . We’ll explain why, and what you need to know about how to catch a glimpse of a celestial event that only occurs roughly once a decade.

First, let’s break down the term. What is a super blue moon? According to NASA, a supermoon is a full moon that occurs whenever it is near its perigee, the closest point to Earth in its orbit. Essentially, it looks bigger than usual.

“During every 27-day orbit around Earth, the Moon reaches both its perigee, about 226,000 miles from Earth, and its farthest point, or apogee, about 251,000 miles from Earth,” NASA says. “At its closest point, the full moon can appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the faintest Moon of the year, which occurs when it’s farthest from Earth in its orbit.”

Given its current spot in orbit, Monday’s moon will be a supermoon, but here’s where the confusion comes in. Most people believe a blue moon is the second moon to appear within a calendar year. Considering a moon cycle lasts 29.5 days, there’s no way there could be a blue moon this month if it peaks on the 19th.

That’s true, but not entirely accurate. NASA refers to the second full moon within a calendar month as a monthly blue moon. This one is a seasonal b lue moon , the third full moon of an astronomical season that will see four full moons.

“Because June’s full moon came just a few days after the June Solstice, we will see four full moons in the current summer season, which end at the September equinox on Sept. 22,” NASA clarifies.

Seasonal blue moons are a rarity on their own. The next one isn’t expected until May 2027. The next super blue moon won’t be until January of 2037.

The moon will appear full for three days, starting Sunday through early Wednesday morning, but it will reach its full peak at 2:26 p.m. Monday. The good news for West Michigan is that Monday night’s forecast once again calls for clear skies.

Experts recommend using a telescope or a pair of binoculars to get the best up-close look.

For photographers, experts recommend a telephoto lens, a sturdy tripod and proper framing to really make the moon pop.

“The basic, but effective approach that most photographers use is to look for a location with a significant foreground element (a tower, large building, landmark, etc.),” Space.com says . “Next, find a spot where there can be a considerable distance from that element and align it with the moonrise/moonset. This enables the photographer to zoom right in on the foreground element and use lens compression to make the moon seem bigger than it is.”

When to see a ‘blue supermoon’ rise (and why it won’t be blue).

The “Sturgeon Moon” will turn full at 18:25 UTC/2:25 p.m. EDT on Monday, August 19.

The eighth full moon of 2024 —the “Sturgeon Moon”—will grace the early evening skies this coming week as it rises in the east just as the sun sets in the west.

Named the “Sturgeon Moon”—but also the “Lynx Moon” and the “Lightning Moon”—this month it will also be called a “Blue Moon” and a “supermoon.”

Here’s everything you need to know about it, including exactly when, where and how to see it at its best from where you are:

When Is The ‘ Sturgeon Moon?’

The “Sturgeon Moon” will turn full at 18:25 UTC/2:25 p.m. EDT on Monday, August 19. From North America, the best time to see it rise is during the moonrise later that day.

Why The ‘ Sturgeon Moon’ Is A ‘Blue Moon’ And A ‘Supermoon’

The “Sturgeon Moon” will be what astronomers call a seasonal blue moon. That’s because it will be the third of four full moons in one astronomical season, which occurs only rarely. This is a simple calendar quirk and there is no visual effect so, no, it will not be blue . The other, more modern definition of a “blue moon” is when two full moons occur in the same calendar month.

It will also be the first of four “supermoon” full moons in 2024. A supermoon—also known as a perigee full moon—is slightly bigger and brighter than the average full moon. That’s because the moon’s orbital path around Earth is a slight ellipse, so there’s always a near-point ( perigee ) and a far-point ( apogee ) every month.

Astronomer Fred Espenak defines a supermoon as a perigee full moon occurring “within 90% of its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.” Although it’s 2024’s first of four technical “supermoons,” it’s not the closest. It will be 224,917 miles (361,969 kilometers) from Earth.

Best Time To See The Full ‘ Sturgeon Moon’

A full moon looks best when it appears on the eastern horizon just after the sun has set in the west. It will look more prominent than usual and be a beautiful, muted orange. The best time to view it will be a few minutes after moonrise where you are , though it depends on your location.

Sunday, August 18

  • In London, moonrise is at 8:14 p.m. BST, and sunset is at 8:18 p.m. BST.

Monday, August 19

  • In New York, sunset is at 7:49 p.m. EDT, and moonrise is at 8:08 p.m. EDT.
  • In Los Angeles, sunset is at 7:36 p.m. PDT, and moonrise is at 7:58 p.m. PDT.
  • In London, sunset is at 8:16 p.m. BST, and moonrise is at 8:34 p.m. BST.

How To See The Full ‘ Sturgeon Moon’

Whether you’re just starting as a sky-watcher or have been at it for decades, the full moon’s rise is always a monthly highlight. Many people wanting to see it when it’s full look when it’s high in the sky, but by then it’s too bright to look at. It’s much better to catch it at the moment of moonrise, when it appears on the eastern horizon in a blaze of orange. Only then will you see it at its apparent largest and most dramatic, as it emerges from a landscape around dusk, and sets around dawn.

Get somewhere high up that faces east, or visit an east-facing coast, both of which will give you a clear view of the horizon—and the best views of the “Blue Moon,” clear skies allowing. Unaided eyes are perfect, though a pair of binoculars will give you a stunning close-up.

When Is The Next Full Moon?

The following full moon will be the full “Super Harvest Moon Eclipse” on Wednesday, September 18—the ninth of the 12 full moons in 2024. As well as being a “supermoon,” it will partially pass through Earth’s outer shadow in space.

The times and dates given apply to mid-northern latitudes. For the most accurate location-specific information, consult online planetariums like SkySafari Pro , Stellarium and The Sky Live . Check planet-rise/planet-set , sunrise/sunset , and moonrise/moonset times to see where you are.

The celestial event, which is visible from Sunday to Wednesday morning, probably won’t happen again until 2037.

A red moon hovered over the support cables on a bridge.

By Ali Watkins

Stargazers are being treated to an astronomical show this week as an infrequent blue supermoon lights up the night sky, one of the largest and brightest full moons of the year.

Visible from late Sunday through Wednesday, it will be the first of the year’s four consecutive supermoons. But it’s a special instance, because Sunday’s supermoon is also a seasonal blue moon — the third full moon in a season of four.

The full moon will appear larger and brighter than usual.

The term “ supermoon ,” coined by the astrologer Richard Noelle in 1979, refers to a moment when the full moon is closest to Earth on its orbital path. It’s not an official astronomical term, but it is used by the lay-stargazers among us.

A “blue” moon bears no connection to the color blue, and the moon won’t have a colorful tinge. Instead, a blue moon is used to describe what is effectively an additional full moon, one that violates the rule of thumb, that there is one full moon in a month, or three full moons in a season.

Supermoons, full moons and blue moons occur on their own, but it’s not often that they all happen at the same time. According to NASA, roughly 25 percent of full moons are supermoons, and only 3 percent of full moons are blue moons. From Sunday through Wednesday morning, they’ll occur simultaneously.

Supermoons can appear 30 percent brighter than the average moon.

Like “supermoon,” the term “blue moon” is also colloquial, but blue moons are infrequent — more so than supermoons — and tend to occur every few years.

This blue supermoon is special, astronomers say, because it abides by the most traditional definition of “blue moon.”

“This is a proper one,” Ed Bloomer, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said.

When is the best time to see the blue supermoon?

The moon will reach its peak fullness on Monday afternoon, but depending on the weather, you could glimpse the blue supermoon until Wednesday morning.

“The best time to see it is virtually whenever it’s dark,” Ciaran Fairhurst, a public engagement officer with the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh, said in an email.

You won’t need any special equipment or location to see it — just a relatively clear sky.

“You can combine it with other stargazing if you are able to get somewhere away from the bright lights of towns and cities,” Dr. Fairhurst said. “But if you just want to see the moon, virtually anywhere away from tall buildings will work.”

Is it really that rare?

Given that there was just a blue supermoon last August , it might seem as if the events happen semi-regularly — but based on predictions from NASA, this is probably the last chance to catch a blue supermoon this decade.

The terms aren’t scientific, so there’s debate over when the events occur. They’re irregular cycles, but according to NASA, the next blue supermoon probably won’t happen until January 2037.

Regardless of how strictly you adhere to the definitions, it will be a spectacle. Plenty of people harbor general interest in astronomy, Dr. Bloomer said, but events like the blue supermoon are special, and you don’t have to be a scientist to appreciate them.

“There’s just that spectrum of engagement which opens it up to everybody,” Dr. Bloomer said. “Not everybody is going to write academic studies about the moon — but you can glance upwards.”

10 Things to Do in Sochi If You Love Nature

Lake Kardyvach. Sochi

Host to 2014 Winter Olympics , Sochi is now mostly known for the snowy slopes of Krasnaya Polyana and Rosa Khutor Alpine resort. However, the “Russian Riviera” is much more than a glorified ski-resort. With its picturesque waterfalls and pristine lakes, alpine meadows and spruce-fir forests, snow-capped mountains and dreamy river valleys, Sochi is an ultimate nature lover’s dream.

Aul tkhagapsh.

Founded in the middle of the 19th century, this village only consists of two streets and two lanes. Circled by a picturesque chestnut forest, Aul Tkhagapsh is surrounded by many visually-arresting natural landmarks – a mysterious rock formation called “the canyon of a hundred crying eyes”, beautiful waterfalls with organically formed stone basins and the Tiger cave, which is called so because of the whimsical clay dripstones. Despite its tiny size, the village itself has a lot to offer. You can see the only wooden mosque on the coast, learn about the customs and traditions of the Adyghe people, try on traditional clothes and taste authentic food and local wines.

If you love picturesque ancient ruins put the Loo Temple on your must-see list. Drowning in the lush greenery of the Sochi National Park, Loo Temple is the remains of a 10th-century Byzantine temple, that’s been ruined and reconstructed multiple times. The temple was used as a place of worship and a fortification over the years.

Aibga Ridge

This spectacular mountain ridge stretches for 23 kilometers and has the Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort nestled at its feet. The ridge comprises of 10 peaks, with the four tallest being the best known: Aigba peak I (2391 m), peak II (2450,5 m), peak III (2462,7 m) and Black Pyramid (2375,3 m). Save a day or two to explore the ridge, full of rapid rivers, alpine meadows and waterfalls.

Achepsinskie Waterfalls

To admire the spectacular views that Achepsinskie Waterfalls offer, you’ll have to endure a pretty tiring trekking route through the Achishkho Mountain to the Achipse River. But those striking panoramas are totally worth the sweat and while the trekking may be tough going, it has a very decent infrastructure.

Khmelevskie Lakes

Located almost 2000 meters above sea level, Khmelevskie Lakes is an alpine lake system, named after the Russian botanist Vikenty Khmelevsky. Spread around emerald-green alpine meadows and surrounded by lush green forests, there are four rather sizable overgrown lakes and a few smaller ones.

Lake Kardyvach

Arguably the most popular tourist spot near Sochi, Lake Kardyvach is simply breathtaking. Situated 44 kilometers from the Krasnaya Polyana resort at the altitude of 1838 meters, the lake stays frozen for seven to eight months a year and even in summer the water temperature is never hotter than 12℃. The water in the lake changes its color depending on the time of year: in spring it turns green and in autumn it becomes dark blue, and no matter what season, it’s unbelievably clear. Akhshtyrskaya Cave

A unique monument of prehistoric architecture, Akhshtyrskaya Cave is set on the right side of Akhshtyrskaya Gorge, about 120m above the Mzymta River and 185m above sea level. The cave begins with a 20m corridor and then gets divided into two halls, 10m and 8m wide. The cave has been heavily explored by archaeologists, who discovered traces of Neanderthal culture dating back to 40,000 BC.

Shakhe River

Sochi’s second most significant river, Shakhe begins high in the mountains and flows down to the Black Sea . 59 kilometers long, the river has some amazing natural attractions in its valley: Dzhegosh Gorge, 33 waterfalls, stone lake basins, ancient oak trees, rare plant life and so much more.

Words can’t do justice to the virgin beauty of the Khuko Lake and scientists are still puzzling over the absence of any life in it. Set between Adygea and Krasnodar Krai, the lake offers incredible views of the mountains Fisht, Oshten and Pshekha-Su.
