Captain corey hall, operations manager, board of directors, gray whale foundation, certified marine naturalist, american cetacean society.
Captain Corey has loved the ocean since he can remember. He was born in Laguna Beach and got his Captain’s License when he was a young man of 19. He’s been on the water ever since, sharing and educating locals and visitors on the marine life here in Dana Point.
He loves both whale watching and fishing equally, especially when there are first-timers or kids on board. Captain Corey enjoys catching Calico Bass because it takes skill and finesse. There are several ways to fish Calico Bass and they can be caught year round here in Dana Point.
Since being a member of the Dana Wharf team of Captains, Captain Corey has a lot of good memories, but perhaps the most memorable was hosting the world’s tallest man on a whale watching trip. “His shoes were as big as many of the fish we catch,” explained the Captain.
Director of marine mammal education programs.
Captain Todd was born in Laguna Beach and for the past 32 years has had a career on the ocean. Through a variety of experiences he has had the opportunity to observe hundreds of different marine species, both fish and mammals.
At the impressionable age of 13 he was the only crew member for a 20 passenger operation that fished during the spring, summer, and fall. During the winter he crewed for a whale watching operation. This early exposure to Mother Ocean had a huge impact on Todd.
In 1992 Captain Todd became Dana Wharf Whale Watching’s lead naturalist and conducts all of the pre-excursion in-classroom education for Orange County’s schools. This is also a major role for Todd as a Board Member of the Gray Whale Foundation.
Todd does pubic speaking engagements on the topic upon request. Todd worked as a writer, editor and photographer for the film “Sharing the Shores off Dana Point: A Whale and Dolphin Exploration.”

Our Santa Barbara whale watching tours are perfect for all ages and provide a unique on-the-water experience to get up close with some of the largest creatures on the planet.
Winter brings these gentle giants to the water just beyond the Sailing Center’s shores every year, and guests love to experience whale watching in Santa Barbara.
The Santa Barbara Channel is home to an incredible assortment of marine mammals including over 30 species of whales and dolphins. The most common whales sighted on our whale watching adventures are the majestic 45-ft long Pacific grey whales. At times, we also see the enormous blue whales, which can reach up to 100 ft in length and are the largest animals on the planet. On most of our whale watching trips, we see common, risso and bottlenose dolphins, California sea lions, harbor seals, and other marine life. Occasionally, we are even lucky enough to spot orcas, humpback whales, minke, and pilot whales.

Each year, an estimated 28,000 Pacific gray whales journey through the channel as they migrate between Alaska and Baja California. On their way south, they pass by the Channel Islands, about 26 miles off the Santa Barbara coast. Beginning mid-February, as they make their way north again, the mothers and calves stay close to the Santa Barbara coastline, just a few hundred yards off shore. Join us for the experience of a lifetime as we journey alongside these magnificent animals on a 2.5 hour whale watching excursion.
From July through September, the blue and humpback whales visit the area to feed on the krill produced in the Santa Barbara Channel. In recent years, our channel has seen the largest concentration of blue whales in the world, in addition to a large number of humpback whales, which are typically seen off the coast of Hawaii. Whether you live in Santa Barbara or you’re just visiting, you owe it to yourself and your family to come whale watching aboard the Double Dolphin. Along with our regular cast of dolphins, sea lions, and other fantastic marine life, it is a treat you are sure to remember.
The view is better from the water! Our 50 ft sailing Catamaran, The Double Dolphin, casts off almost daily for coastal cruises, Music on the Water cruises, and more. Her 1400 square feet of deck space and dual-hull construction make her comfortable, stable, and safe.
With a 49 passenger capacity, we have plenty of room for a large party. On board, you will find wine, beer, champagne, water, sodas, and gourmet snacks. There are two restrooms for your convenience.
Come and enjoy America’s Riviera while sailing alongside an entourage of sea lions, dolphins, whales, and birds. It’s a sensational sea story you will tell again and again.

Yesterday my family and I went whale watching with some of our friends. We had 2 young children with us and a teenager. We had an amazing time! When we got to the dock, we checked in and they gave us our boarding passes. The boat left promptly and on time. While the boat is leaving the marina, they give a little science lesson on the whales and what we can expect to see. We saw 3 blue whales and a couple humpback whales. The blue whales are extremely rare this time of year. It was a very active day! We also saw lots of dolphins and seals. I've been whale watching out of Long Beach many times and I've never seen as many whales as I did yesterday. This was my first time whale watching in Santa Barbara and would definitely do it again. Great time!

Honestly, deserves more than 5 stars. I had low expectations for seeing whales, but we saw at least ten humpbacks and dozens of sea lions feeding when we visited Santa Barbara in mid April. I can only say good things about our whale watching cruise. The crew was friendly and the captain was very knowledgeable about the marine life we encountered and provided a good description of their feeding behavior. He also positioned the boat so the lighting was optimal for pictures. Highly recommend paying the extra $5 to get a seat on the top deck. There are less people on the top deck and they'll serve you drinks when you're seated while you get out far enough to see any marine life. Parking on the pier can be a bit of a mess. We parked in one of the neighborhoods across the street and walked about ten minutes. The ticket station is close to the end of the pier so give yourself ample time to make your tour, they recommend at least 30 minutes. You can book reservations online directly through their website or you can buy tickets the same day. You might have to wait for the next tour if you don't buy tickets in advance. If you get sea sick, take some ginger candies or dramamine with you. We also brought ginger ale just in case. Take an actual camera if you have one. I don't know how anyone got any good shots with their phones. You don't get that close to the whales, remember they are protected marine mammals. I couldn't ask for more for my first whale watching tour. This will definitely not be my last whale watching tour with Condor Express.
What a great experience! A group of us went out for a night cruise on the Condor Express to watch the annual Santa Barbara holiday boat parade. They put out a yummy spread of snacks, drinks were reasonably priced, and the staff was friendly and helpful. A fun group of spectators and festive Christmas music just added to the festive mood. On top of enjoying our awesome position just past the decorated boats going by, we were treated to a pod of dolphins who were feeding in the pitch black water. Did you know they bioluminescence? Streaks of pale light in the water were followed by the noise from their blow holes and then a shadow of them leaping out of the water. And to top it off, a fireworks show for the ages. It was an evening I will never forget. Thank you, Devin and crew. We'll be back next December with more friends!
A decorated boat waiting for the sun to set.
A beautifully decorated boat cruises by.
This tour was absolutely fantastic. We passed through several dolphin pods -- saw dozens and dozens of dolphins playing by the ship, it was mindblowing. Once we were far out, we encountered four humpback whales, two of whom were very social. The humpbacks came right up to the ship and hung around for 35 minutes! Great tour, and the guides were also friendly and very informative.
The best experience of your life. I've been on this boat at least 5 times and we ALWAYS see wildlife. Multiple dolphin species, seals and sea lion, and of course many species of whales. The captain and crew are so knowledable of the ocean and wildlife and are able to give you the best experience possible. They have great food and drinks as well and are extremely friendly. We will continue to come on more trips! It's the best days ever.

The best whale watching boat on the west coast. We've gone at least 5 times and every single time we have seen multiple whales, thousands of dolphin and lots of other sea life. The captain and crew are all so nice and polite. There is a bar and kitchen so you can order breakfast and lunch as well as drinks! The 4.5 hour tour is absolutely incredible. We made it all the way to the Channel Islands, although I'm sure it depends On the weather if they are able to make it to the island or not. They had an AMAZING photographer on board named Adam.. his photos are just out of this world amazing. Look him up on Instagram. So good. Can't wait to go back!!
Right now, the boat is running at 50% capacity, but we were out a week ago and had a full (50%) boat. Arrived at 9 in the marina to make sure we had good seats up top. Boarding started at 9:30. Ship leaves at 10a and normally you go about 30 mi out. This day we were put close to 50 mi as we were following multiple whales including some fin whales and many blue whales. They were amazing to watch. Well worth going out with them. Just a few things to remember: 1. Wear a jacket as it does get chilly on the water. 2. Bring your sunscreen as the sun will scorch you 3. Pack a lunch and snacks. They do have a galley but this is a cheaper option. 4. Have fun! They say August is a great month to see the whales but I hope to see them again in the future.

Went on the 2.5 hour Whale Watching a couple weekend ago. Saw one whale (very far away) , no dolphins or sea lions. As we went out further the oil spillage was everywhere, and the smell was terrible. Stayed in that for too long. Unfortunately cannot give a good rating for this trip. I think we were disappointed because we assumed we would see more. :/.
I hired the Condor Express to serve as the rehearsal dinner for our wedding (~50 guests). We opted to do a two hour charter with catering provided by Chicken Ranch (what they call Condor Catering). It was by far one of the most affordable options in the area. While the communication at times was rocky, from the guest experience perspective it was fantastic.
My boyfriend and I visited back in October 2020 for his birthday. What an amazing experience! I can not recommend this whale watching company enough. My boyfriend is a Marine Biology major, a scuba diver, and marine life lover. He was so impressed with how many whales and dolphins we saw on our trip. Condor Express is truly one of the best whale watching companies in Santa Barbara. They do their research on where to find the whales and we saw about 4-5 whales on our trip. However, I did get a little seasick. The ride was around 2 hours long and they did have food available. Since I'm not really that big of a fan of boats, I took a little nap because I felt super dizzy and seasick. I still enjoyed the trip and I'm glad my boyfriend had a great time. We got great photos and my boyfriend is longing to go back! Thank you Condor Express for such a great time and I'm sorry we were a little bit late when we arrived. You guys are awesome! We will definitely be back. If you're in Santa Barbara, give this place a try.
Little selfie time
On May 24, 2022 I had one of the absolute best experiences of my life in which we saw at least 9 whales, 100s of dolphins, and even a puffin! We had barely left the harbor and there was a HUGE pod of dolphins feeding on anchovies. They were precious surrounding the boat. Everyone was so excited! The waters were crystal clear and we could see 100s of them all around us. Shortly after, we came across a mom and calf humpback whale. They were extremely friendly and came very close to our boat even waving at us several times. I could not quit smiling. So incredible! After spending some time with the sweet mom and calf we moved on towards Santa Cruz island and saw more humpback whales. Some of them came close to the boat and at one point one of them went directly under our boat! I could see it in the crystal clear water. It felt as though it went right under me! I will NEVER forget this incredible experience of a lifetime! Thank you so much Condor Express! On another note, the drinks and food are also delicious! I enjoyed an irish coffee and a delicious grilled cheese and ham sandwich. :)
