Inside the Glass Onion Yacht—Which You Can Charter for $228,000 a Week

A superyacht photographed from above

Taking place on a private Greek island , the trip in Rian Johnson’s newest Knives Out movie, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, would be undeniably indulgent—if not for the murder mystery and seemingly never-ending plot twists. Still, for a lofty price, you can turn some of the more luxurious moments from the film into a reality. As Robb Report shares, the lavish yacht seen in the beginning of the movie is available for private charter throughout the Mediterranean for $228,000 a week.

A beach club on a yacht

According to Ocean Independence, the on-board beach club is “massive for her category.”

The 151-foot vessel is named Aquarius and is available to the public through Ocean Independence, a company specializing in luxury yacht sales, management, and charters. Delivered by Turkish shipbuilder Mengi Yay in 2016, the ship holds up to 10 people across 5 staterooms. “In a style of her own with her straight bow, she is fully optioned with a lavish beach club and balcony extensions on either side of the salon,” the boat’s description reads. The primary stateroom also comes with two additional private balconies for even more opportunities for indoor-outdoor living and taking in the incredible Mediterranean views.

When it comes to entertainment, Aquarius leaves little to be desired. Her on-board amenities include a gym and exercise equipment, a jacuzzi, and multiple aquatic toys including paddle boards, a water ski, a wakeboard, and snorkeling equipment. Two twin Caterpillar engines power the boat, which can reach top speeds of 26 knots with a cruising speed of 11.5 knots, and a 9-member crew will also be available throughout the charter.

The yacht has plenty of balconies and decks for indoor-outdoor living.

While most would hope their time on Aquarius only resembles the comedic and lighthearted moments from Glass Onion, there is one part of the movie guaranteed to transcend the fictional and real world: The ship captain seen in the movie, Andino, is actually Aquarius ’s real-life captain Ali Göksoy.

Editor's note: The following contains spoilers for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Mysteries are always a delight to watch, especially when we have all the clues we need to solve them ourselves. But, sometimes, the clues aren’t hiding exactly where we think they should. In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery , Rian Johnson ’s sequel to his hit movie Knives Out , there are numerous little details scattered throughout that might help viewers figure out what’s going on before detective Benoit Blanc ( Daniel Craig )—or just as quick as him. Then there are also those details that don’t add much to the plot, but sure make Glass Onion a much more rewarding and entertaining watch. In case you’ve seen the film, but still have no idea what we’re talking about, here’s a list of all the clues, cameos, and Easter eggs that you might have missed.

The Beatles' "Glass Onion"

Glass Onion ’s very first Easter egg is in its title. It turns out that Miles Bron’s ( Edward Norton ) brief rendition of “Blackbird” on Paul McCartney ’s guitar isn’t the only Beatles reference in the film. “Glass Onion” is also a Beatles song that can be found in the band’s self-titled tenth studio album most popularly known as “The White Album." With lyrics such as “Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet” and “The walrus was Paul," “Glass Onion” pokes fun at fans that are constantly trying to look for hidden meanings behind the band’s songs, telling us that sometimes, things that seem deep and complex can be quite simple and see-through – much like Miles Bron and his mysteries. The reference to the song can also have something to do with the movie’s intent of showing the truth behind the obscenely rich and famous, as one of the verses says “Looking through the bent backed tulips/To see how the other half live." And if there's any question whether this is a direct reference, the song is also featured in the movie's end credits.

Yo-Yo Ma Solves Miles Bron’s Musical Riddle

Glass Onion starts with an unlikely group of friends each receiving an invitation in the mail to a fancy murder mystery party from alleged genius billionaire Miles Bron. But, being the phony, pedantic jerk that he is, Bron doesn’t simply send his friends a regular letter. His invitation comes in the form of a box of riddles that must be solved one by one in order to reveal a small card containing the event’s info. One of the riddles is a song that is correctly identified as Bach’s “Little Fugue in G Minor” by world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma , who is attending a party at Birdie’s ( Kate Hudson ) instead of socially distancing during Covid. A fugue, as Ma explains, is a musical puzzle, a tune that becomes something else entirely when layered on top of itself.

Celebrities Among Us

In his first scene in the movie, famed detective Benoit Blanc is shown to be spending the first few months of the pandemic just like many of us did: utterly depressed and killing time with countless games of Among Us . However, few among us (ha!) can say that they had a group of game partners as star-studded as Mr. Blanc. Sitting in his bathtub, Benoit has a two-screen setup, one of which shows a Zoom chat between him, actress Angela Lansbury , Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim , actress Natasha Lyonne , and basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar .

Benoit’s friends are all somewhat connected to the mystery genre. After retiring from basketball, Abdul-Jabbar wrote a series of novels based on Sherlock Holmes’ brother, Mycroft, alongside writer Anna Waterhouse ; Lyonne is set to star in Rian Johnson’s upcoming Peacock murder mystery series Poker Face ; one of Sondheim’s greatest plays is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street ; and one of Lansbury's best-known performances is as Jessica Fletcher on Murder, She Wrote . And if you look really closely at the game screen, you can see that both Mr. Sondheim and Ms. Lansbury have screen names that reference their most famous works: Stephen’s alias is FleetSt, while Angela goes by MSheSolved.

The Game of Among Us Also Foreshadows the Impostor Plot

In Among Us , a spaceship’s crew must figure out which one of them is the impostor that is sabotaging their mission and killing them one by one. The impostor wins if they manage to take everyone out without blowing his cover. Meanwhile, in Glass Onion , one of Miles Bron’s so-called disruptors isn’t who she says she is: the woman calling herself Andi Brand is actually Andi’s twin sister, Helen ( Janelle Monáe ), who is trying to solve Andi’s murder and take down Miles Bron. In this scenario, the impostor is not the killer, but the one tasked with uncovering the killer’s true identity. However, that is only one possible interpretation. After all, Helen is far from being the only impostor at Bron’s murder mystery party. Miles Bron himself is pretending to be a technological and business genius while he is nothing but a thief that stole all his ideas from Andi. And, in this case, the impostor is very much the killer.

A Book Near Benoit’s Bathtub Tells Us a Lot About the Story’s Structure

Still in the Among Us scene, there is yet another element that tells us a lot about the story of Glass Onion . There, on the ground, right next to Benoit’s bathtub, is a copy of Edward Powys Mathers ’, a.k.a. Torquemada , Cain’s Jawbone , a murder mystery puzzle with the pages arranged in the wrong order. The book dares the reader to figure out the correct order of the pages, and its inclusion in the early scenes of Glass Onion is an indicator that the film’s story won’t be told in the traditional order.

Hugh Grant Is “Married to James Bond”

Perhaps the most obvious celebrity cameo in Glass Onion is that of Hugh Grant . The British actor appears briefly as Phillip, a character that was later confirmed by Grant himself to be Benoit Blanc’s husband . Phillip is the one that opens the door of Benoit’s apartment to Helen, and he’s also said to be worried about Benoit’s pandemic depression.

What’s in a Mask?

Something important about the characters in Glass Onion is that they are nearly all wearing a mask - sometimes figuratively, and sometimes literally. Since the movie takes place during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, when Miles’ guests first meet to travel to his Greek island, they are almost all masked up to protect themselves and others from the disease. But the way each of the “disruptors” wear their mask tells us a lot about their personalities. Lionel’s ( Leslie Odom Jr. ) properly fitted, sober black mask is a clear indicator of his science-oriented mind. It’s the mask of a man that knows just how severe this pandemic is. Meanwhile, Claire’s loose mask, with her nose popping out, tells us that she is a busy woman with no time for vanities, but also that she doesn’t care as much as she pretends to. Birdie’s golden mesh mask shows a complete misunderstanding of what the masks are even for, and Duke ( Dave Bautista ) and Whiskey’s ( Madelyn Cline ) lack of a mask speak of their blatant disregard for others.

Ethan Hawke Administers the Covid Vaccines

A Covid shot doesn’t mean you get to stop wearing your mask, but, in the world of Glass Onion , it kind of does. After all, the vaccine that Miles Bron got while we were all still locked up at home is certainly much more powerful than the ones going around. And who did Bron get to administer this vaccine to his guests? None other than Ethan Hawke . The actor is credited as playing the Efficient Man.

Alpha and Omega

The name of Miles Bron’s company might be Alpha, but it is not the first letter of the Greek alphabet that appears all throughout Glass Onion . Instead, it is the letter omega, the alphabet’s very last one, that we see all around: on Bron’s yacht, on Lionel’s lapel, and even on Benoit’s watch, an Omega Seamaster 1948 . Together, the two letters form the expression “alpha and omega”, meaning the beginning and the end of something. This indicates that Miles’ empire is coming to an end.

Noah Segan Is Not a Part of This Experience

Benoit Blanc, Helen/Andi, and the “disruptors” aren’t the only people staying at Miles Bron’s mansion. There’s someone else around, and I don’t mean Whiskey or Peg ( Jessica Henwick ). But don’t worry: Derol ( Noah Segan ) is not a part of the experience. He’s just going through some things. Or, maybe, he just wants to make a throwback to the franchise's previous movie, in which Segan plays one of the police detectives trying to solve the murder of Harlan Thrombey ( Christopher Plummer ). In an interview with Screen Rant , Johnson stated that Segan is one of his best friends and has been in every single one of his movies.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Hourly Dong (No, Seriously)

Yet another shout-out to Knives Out is Joseph Gordon-Levitt ’s cameo. In the first film of the franchise, Gordon-Levitt appears as a TV detective in a show that Marta ( Ana de Armas ) watches with her mother. In Glass Onion , he doesn’t appear at all, but his voice can be heard every now and then as the deafening “Dong!” that marks the passing of time in Miles’ private island. Much like Segan, Gordon-Levitt is a regular in Johnson’s filmography and has been in every one of the director’s movies since starring in his debut feature, Brick .

There’s an Upside Down Rothko Painting in Miles’ Living Room

The living room in Miles Bron’s mansion is full of famous works of art. But not every artwork in Bron’s private gallery is displayed quite as it should be. A painting by American abstract artist Mark Rothko is hanging upside down. Now, the painting features only two blocks of color, and it would be understandable for someone that doesn’t know much about art to hang it the wrong way. But someone claiming to be a once-in-a-generation genius? Yeah, that’s suspicious…

Young Miles Bron Dresses Just Like Magolia 's Frank T.J. Mackey

Bron's entire career is based on making people believe he’s someone other than himself, and this didn't start with Alpha. In a flashback to long before Andi started the company, we see the “disrupters” hanging out at a bar when Miles comes in. His outfit in this scene is identical to that of another movie character, Frank T.J. Mackey ( Tom Cruise ), a pick-up artist from the 1999 movie Magnolia , directed by Paul Thomas Anderson . The fact that Bron is emulating Mackey speaks of his desire to charm everyone around him, and a cockiness that he apparently admires in the Mackey character.

In His Fall-Out With Andi, Miles Wears Steve Jobs’ Signature Look

In yet another flashback, we see Andi and Miles having the fight that would eventually culminate in Bron taking control of Alpha. This time, however, Miles is not dressed as any movie character. Instead, his look is an exact copy of Steve Jobs ’ signature outfit, from the jeans to the black turtleneck. Once again, this wardrobe choice tells us a lot about Miles and how he wishes to be perceived, except now it's his desire to be seen as a tech and business genius that is at the forefront.

Serena Williams and Gravity's Rainbow

Another celebrity that makes a cameo in Glass Onion is world-renowned tennis player Serena Williams . The sports star appears as a virtual fitness coach in Miles' gym, bored out of her mind as she is forced to wait online for someone to ask her for a lesson. To pass the time, Williams is reading a copy of Thomas Pynchon 's Gravity's Rainbow in yet another throwback to Knives Out , this time, to a scene in which Benoit Blanc states that no one has ever read the famously long and difficult novel.

Glass Onion: 9 Behind-The-Scenes Facts About Netflix's Knives Out Sequel

Peering through the dense layers of this fun mystery.

Janelle Monae and Daniel Craig in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

It is no mystery why the 2022 follow-up to Knives Out has won the hearts of most critics , become an enduring hit on Netflix’s trending page , and received a 2023 Academy Award nomination for its screenplay. However, Glass Onion (which is how I will refer to it because writer and director Rian Johnson prefers it without the subtitle , A Knives Out Mystery ), is not without its mysteries beyond the twisted murder case at the center of its story.

Well, we decided to pull a Benoit Blanc and get to the bottom of some of the best kept secrets surrounding one of the best movies of 2022 (in our opinion) and one of the best movies released on Netflix in 2022 (or best movies on Netflix ever, for that matter). Regardless of how much you agree with those statements, you may not be able to deny that there are fascinating behind-the-scenes facts to reveal about Glass Onion and we have compiled our most interesting favorites below.

The Beatles in The Beatles: Get Back

A Beatles Song Inspired The Title, Glass Onion

As a fan of The Beatles, I was just as surprised as Rian Johnson to learn how few people made the connection between Glass Onion and the Fab Four’s eponymous track off of 1968’s The White Album when the film’s title was officially announced in 2022 . In fact, the filmmaker has an interesting story that he revealed to Deadline as to how the song that plays during the end credits inspired the name:

I’d gotten to a point where I had the idea of a central metaphor that Blanc could latch onto and beat like a dead horse. Something that was made of glass. Something that was layered, but the center was in plain sight, and so on. And I thought, OK, well the billionaire is going to have an island, and maybe he has some structure on it that’s made of glass, so… is it a glass castle? Is it a glass palace? I literally opened the music app on my phone and just searched the word ‘glass,’ and ‘Glass Onion’ popped up.

Knives Out is also synonymous with a Radiohead song, but Johnson insisted to the Los Angeles Times that the connection ends at the name and that he -- a massive fan of the band -- had the phrase in his head at the time he was writing. It makes me wonder what tune the franchise’s upcoming third installment could be named after if the filmmaker goes in that direction again.

Netflix Spent Millions For The Streaming Rights To Glass Onion

With all of the cancelled series it has picked up (i.e., Manifest) and nostalgic favorites it has revived (such as That ‘90s Show , a continuation of That ‘70s Show ), Netflix is becoming the Number One place to — not necessarily start, but — continue a franchise. One of the most famous and expensive examples of this is when it acquired distribution rights to Glass Onion .

In 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter , a “discreet” auction that competitors like Amazon and Apple participated in was closed out when Netflix became the home to the Knives Out sequel (and the series’ upcoming third installment) for $469 million. That is the kind of money that suspects of Benoit Blanc’s cases often kill for.

Daniel Craig in Glass Onion

Daniel Craig Had To Relearn Benoit Blanc’s Accent

Speaking of Benoit Blanc, the gentleman sleuth is known for speaking in a unique “Foghorn Leghorn Southern drawl” as Chris Evans ’ Ransom Drysdale describes in Knives Out . However, recapturing that distinct accent for Glass Onion proved to be a challenge for Daniel Craig.

The British former James Bond actor revealed to Empire that he had forgotten how to speak like the astute private eye since he first originated him in 2019. So, in the hope of avoiding doing a “pastiche,” he worked with an accent coach for months to make sure he sounded as authentic as possible.

Kaley Cuoco Auditioned For Kate Hudson’s Role

While a part of us wishes we could have seen more of the Knives Out cast reprise their roles alongside Craig in the sequel, that would have meant we wouldn't have gotten Glass Onion ’s wonderful ensemble , which also includes Janelle Monae , Edward Norton , and Dave Bautista . Someone who really wanted to be in the sequel, as she recalls in the excerpt from a Glamour interview below, was Kaley Cuoco:

I was convinced [the part was mine]. Kate Hudson ended up getting it. But I was so convinced that my bags were packed for Greece. And then I didn’t get it. I was so devastated. And I’m not [normally] devastated over roles. I had done chemistry reads, I had done Zooms. And I didn’t get it. I cried and I cried all night long. And it went to Kate, who’s great.

I would certainly agree that Kate Hudson — who also got to reunite with Kathryn Hahn nearly two decades after How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days — did a wonderful job as Birdie Jay. Yet, I can also imagine an alternate reality in which the former Big Bang Theory cast member kills it as the self-absorbed fashion designer.

Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahnn, Leslie Odom Jr. and Madelyn Cline in Glass Onion

Some Cast Members Had A Say In Their Characters’ Costume Design

Speaking of fashion, the wardrobe choices for the characters in Glass Onion are so exquisite and on-point, that it is surprising that costume designer Jenny Eagan did not get an Oscar nomination as well. Then again, if her designs had been recognized, she technically would have had to share the nomination with the actors.

An official behind-the-scenes featurette about Glass Onion ’s costume design released on YouTube reveals that the clothing choices were a collaborative effort between Eagan and some of the cast members. For instance, Daniel Craig based his look off Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief and Leslie Odom Jr. wanted Lionel’s wardrobe to subvert that of your typical movie scientist.

Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Natasha Lyonne on Zoom in Glass Onion

Stephen Sondheim Helped Get Angela Lansbury In Glass Onion

Another eye-popping element of Glass Onion is all the epic cameos — such as Hugh Grant as Blanc’s husband , Philip, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (a frequent collaborator of Johnson’s) as the voice of “The Hourly Dong,” and, of course, all of the detective’s famous friends. Those appearing as themselves in that group over a Zoom call include Johnson’s Poker Face star Natasha Lyonne, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Stephen Sondheim, and Angela Lansbury.

The late theatre icon apparently had a hand in convincing the three-time Oscar-nominated Murder, She Wrote actor — who also passed away in 2022 — to show up in Glass Onion . Johnson recalled to the The New York Times mentioning to Sondheim that he wanted to get Lansbury, to which he said, “Oh, Angie — I’m friends with her. Tell her I’m doing it. She’ll do it.” That was that.

Leslie Odom Jr. with yacht captain in Glass Onion

The Captain Of Miles’ Yacht Was Played By The Real Yacht’s Captain

Also starring in Glass Onion as himself, apparently, is the captain who runs Miles Bron’s yacht and cheekily refers to the billionaire’s dock as a “Pisceshite.” This man is not a professional actor, but the actual captain of the yacht used in the movie, as Leslie Odom Jr . mentions during a cast reunion video also shared to the Still Watching Netflix channel on YouTube.

In fact, Johnson points out in that same video that the captain — who goes unnamed in the video and unmentioned in the film’s credits, too — “begrudgingly” took on the role, wanting no part of it despite being very familiar with was being asked of him. It is actually not unusual for non-actors to appear as themselves — such as most of the cast of Nomadland — and we are honored to include him on that list, regardless of his reluctance.

Edward Norton in Glass Onion

Exterior Footage Of Miles’ Estate Was Shot At A Real Greek Villa

Another member of the Glass Onion crew whom I was surprised did not receive any recognition from the Academy this year was production designer Rick Heinrichs, especially for the extremely luxurious appearance of Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) beautiful Greek private Island. That was, however, until I learned that the estate was not a product of Heinrichs’ mind, but already existed before production.

In a featurette found on the Still Watching Netflix channel on YouTube about Glass Onion ’s production design , Johnson talks about how the first half of principal photography was done at a real estate in Greece called “Villa 20.” A quick look at the villa’s official website will show that Miles Bron’s pool, eclectic garden, and general exterior design are all part of the retreat. The titular glass structure that sits atop the estate was added digitally, however.

Mona Lisa burning in Glass Onion

A Scrapped Post-Credits Scene Almost Changed The Mona Lisa’s Fate

What makes the conclusion of Glass Onion so explosively entertaining — SPOILER ALERT — is the way Helen Brand (Janelle Monae) really hits Miles where it hurts by also fulfilling his dream of ensuring he will be remembered in the same breath as the Mona Lisa… by burning the real painting (which Bron had rented) to a crisp. This shocking sight could have been a little less devastating had Johnson stuck with his original plan.

In an interview for Empire’s Spoiler Special podcast (via ComicBook.com ), Johnson shared that the movie almost had a post-credits scene revealing that iconic art piece was actually still being held safely at the Louvre and that Bron had unwittingly been given a fake. However, the filmmaker says that, instead of “[pulling] a punch,” he prefers the idea that the Benoit Blanc Universe’s version of the Mona Lisa actually is no more.

As a fun, bonus behind-the-scenes fact, in a feature-length behind-the-scenes video on the Still Watching Netflix channel, Outer Banks cast member Madelyn Cline recalls hearing Johnson giggle behind the camera, which Craig would point out means that they had a good take. If only he could hear his fans giggle at Glass Onion , he would know just how much they thought he did another good job with this one.

Steve Jobs's yacht makes its first appearance (video)

Christened "venus" after the roman goddess of love and beauty.

Steve Jobs yacht (birds)

Steve Jobs's yacht is making what looks to be its first public appearance in the Dutch city of Aalsmeer, a bit more than one year after his death. The photographs first appeared on the Apple news site One More Thing and closely resemble the description given by Walter Isaacson in his Steve Jobs biography .

After our omelets at the café, we went back to his house and he showed me all of the models and architectural drawings. As expected, the planned yacht was sleek and minimalist. The teak decks were perfectly flat and unblemished by any accoutrements. As at an Apple store, the cabin windows were large panes, almost floor to ceiling, and the main living area was designed to have walls of glass that were forty feet long and ten feet high. He had gotten the chief engineer of the Apple stores to design a special glass that was able to provide structural support. By then the boat was under construction by the Dutch custom yacht builders Feadship, but Jobs was still fiddling with the design. "I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat," he said. "But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die."

One image clearly shows "de vries," one of the two shipyards that make up the Feadship custom yacht building company, while another tells us that the yacht is christened "Venus," the Roman goddess of love and beauty. The ship builders were each gifted an iPod shuffle with the ship's name inscribed on the back, along with a note thanking them for their " hard work and craftsmanship ."

Jobs's family is reportedly on-hand for the unveiling of the superyacht that One More Thing says features a lightweight aluminum exterior measuring up to 80 meters long. Another image shows six of the seven 27-inch iMacs found in the ship's interior, reportedly designed by Philippe Starck . The backside of the iMacs are also visible in the wheelhouse in the video above.

Steve Jobs's Secret Yacht Looks Like a Giant iPhone

Just over a year after Steve Jobs's death, shipbuilders in Aalsmeer, Holland have finally finished the yacht that the Apple visionary spent years designing -- stealthily, of course.

steve jobs yacht glass onion

Just over a year after Steve Jobs's death, shipbuilders in Aalsmeer, Holland have finally finished the yacht that the Apple visionary spent years designing -- stealthily, of course. Boy, does it look like an Apple product. Her name is Venus .

Built entirely out of aluminum, the yacht was designed by Jobs personally along with some help from French designer Phillipe Starck. It's a big one, too. The ship measures between 70 and 80 meters , but because of the aluminum construction, it's lighter than your typical yacht, giving it a bit of an edge when it comes to speed. It doesn't lack amenities, either. The front of the ship is equipped with a uniquely large sun deck with a jacuzzi built in. Behind that comes an all glass cabin that's topped with a bridge equipped with seven 27-inch iMacs that handle the ship's navigation and controls. When you take a step back, squint a little and turn your head to the left, it sort of looks like an iPhone 4 with the strip of windows around the middle and the clean lines.

Jobs's yacht project might seem a little out of character at first. After all, the billionaire was famously humble about many aspects of his lifestyle. He lived in a normal house on a normal suburban street in Palo Alto, California, not some massive mansion out in the mountains. He wore jeans, a black turtleneck sweater and New Balance tennis shoes , a basically thrifty choice for a man who could afford his own cashmere farm. He also  drove a very nice car , but it wasn't rapper nice. That is, it wasn't a Bentley or an Aston Martin or a Maybach -- just a Mercedes. (Ok, now we're stretching the humble thing, but you get the point.)

We now know that Steve Jobs was not a stranger to the finer aspects of being filthy rich, luxuries like chrome-coated yachts and custom-built private jets . But hey, the guy wanted to retire one day, and so what if he wanted to live like a king after building the world's most valuable technology company. Walter Isaacson wrote about the yacht in his biography of Steve Jobs, who had evidently been working on the project alone for six years:

Sadly, Jobs did die before the yacht was finished, but the folks at Feadship finished the job. Evidently, the Jobs family recently had a little christening party with the shipbuilders, who all got an iPod Shuffle with "Venus" engraved on the back as a token of thanks. Now that we said all that stuff about Jobs and conspicuous consumption, you'd think they could have at least splurged for the iPod Touch.

Check out the chrome plates on the bow. The sleek windows that wrap around the middle of the ship is where the Jobs family quarters are. The crew gets the little portholes underneath.

You can see the row of iMacs in the bridge.

End-to-end, it's a pretty impressive vessel.

More Than a Year After His Death, Steve Jobs’ Super-Yacht is Finally Complete

It’s been over a year since  Steve Jobs passed away, but Apple’s creative juggernaut is still making awesome stuff. Jobs’ private yacht , which he designed but never had the chance to see finished, has been spotted in the wild at a shipyard in   Aalsmeer, Holland . Constructed by Dutch shipbuilder  Feadship , the Jobs family had the yacht the completed even after Job’s death, with the help of French designer  Phillipe Starck . Named  “Venus , ” after the Roman god of beauty, Jobs’ massive ship’s sleek design is definitely reminiscent of the man’s personal aesthetic.

According to the description from One More Thing , (as translated by The Verge ,) The Venus is 80 meters long, and sports a lightweight aluminum on the outside. The look of the yacht may sound familiar to some of the Apple faithful, as the design is similar to the one described in Walter Issacson’s biography of Jobs.

“As expected, the planned yacht was sleek and minimalist. “I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat,” he said. “But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.”

On the inside, the ship appears to be controlled by a console made with seven 27-inch iMacs. Say what you will about Jobs, the man believed in the machines he created, going out of his way to integrate Macs into everything he did.

10 most interesting places in Tver Region (PHOTOS)

steve jobs yacht glass onion

1. Catherine the Great's ‘Travel Palace’ in Tver

steve jobs yacht glass onion

The city was founded on the Volga River in 1135. It’s 12 years older than Moscow and even competed to become the capital of Ancient Russia. Today, it is a major regional center with a population of around 414,000 people.

Travelers from one capital to the other would often stop in Tver. Empress Catherine II even had a travel palace built in Tver so as to have somewhere to rest along the way. Now, it houses the Tver Regional Art Gallery. It includes artwork collections owned by Tver governors from country estates in the Tver Governorate that were nationalized after the Bolshevik Revolution. They contain works by Alexey Venetsianov, Konstantin Korovin, Arkady Plastov, Valentin Serov, Mikhail Vrubel and other famous artists.

2. Rzhev Memorial

steve jobs yacht glass onion

The town of Rzhev is located 120 km from Tver. From October 1941 to March 1943, some of the bloodiest battles of World War II, including the ‘Battle of Rzhev’, took place there (you can read more about the battle here ). Soviet troops lost more than 1.3 million men, including wounded, missing in action and taken prisoner.

A memorial to the soldiers who fell in the battle was inaugurated in Rzhev in June 2020. At the center of the composition is a 25-meter bronze statue of a Soviet soldier whose trench coat "morphs" into a flock of cranes. The reference is to one of the most popular and poignant songs about the war titled: 'Zhuravli' ('Cranes'). It was composed by Yan Frenkel to lyrics by Rasul Gamzatov.

3. Lake Seliger

steve jobs yacht glass onion

Lovers of outdoor recreational activities should visit the shores of Seliger at least once in their life! This huge (260 sq. km) lake of glacial origin is home to about 30 species of fish. Hence, fishermen go there at all times of year and fish from boats, from the shore and, in winter, through ice-holes.

The winding shoreline of the lake has a multitude of different hotels and campsites (as well as glamping sites), so anyone can stay there according to their preferences. And you can jump straight into the lake from the banya (bathhouse)!

One of Seliger's landmarks is the charming town of Ostashkov, the largest on its shores.. Its key attractions include a Soviet local history museum, which is housed in a former church.

You can also take a ride on a retro train along the Seliger - Ostashkov - Bologoye route.

4. Nilov Monastery (St. Nilus Stolobensky Monastery)

steve jobs yacht glass onion

One of the main attractions in Tver Region is the Nilov Monastery, founded in the 16th century. This functioning monastery is also situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Seliger. In Soviet times, it housed a colony for young offenders, a prisoner-of-war camp, a hospital and a tourist hostel…

According to legend, a hermit monk named Nil, famous for his diligent prayer, settled on the island of Stolobny on the lake. It was said that no calamities or robbers could force him off the island. After he died, other monks began to go to where his cell had stood and, eventually, they founded a monastery there. Before the Bolshevik Revolution, it was one of the most revered monasteries: Thousands of pilgrims used to visit it to worship the relics of the Venerable Nil. As part of the project ‘Russia: 85 Adventures’, we filmed a video at the monastery – you can watch it here .

If, in Torzhok, you've time to eat, Pozharsky's is the place to know. Their cutlets, fried, are such a treat, Then after lunch you'll lightly go!

So wrote Alexander Pushkin, who frequently traveled from St. Petersburg to Moscow to see his friend Sergei Sobolevsky. Thanks to Russia's most outstanding poet, ‘Pozharsky cutlets’ – patties of ground chicken coated in white bread croutons – became the town's most famous speciality. And they remain its calling card to this day.

steve jobs yacht glass onion

But, the town is famous for more than just gastronomy. The once major trading center has, today, evolved into a charming provincial town. Things to see include the picturesque scenery along the banks of the River Tvertsa, the Saints Boris and Gleb Monastery, which is virtually the oldest monastery of Ancient Russia (believed to have been founded in 1038), and the unique, wooden 17th-century Old Church of the Ascension.

6. The flooded bell tower of Kalyazin

steve jobs yacht glass onion

One of the region's most famous sights is the flooded bell tower of Kalyazin. The 74-meter tower protrudes out of the water not far from the shores of a reservoir. Tourists who take pictures of it are sometimes oblivious of the fact that the ruins of a once-flourishing monastery lie hidden under the water.

Most of the Makaryev Monastery of the Holy Trinity was demolished in 1940, ending up in the flood zone of the Uglich hydroelectric power station on the Volga River and the Uglich Reservoir. What remains now as a reminder of the monastery are the bell tower, which was recently restored and re-whitewashed and also a set of frescoes miraculously rescued from the monastery. You can read more about them here .

7. The source of the Volga

steve jobs yacht glass onion

It's hard to believe that this spring and stream in the Valdai Heights are the place where one of the world's biggest rivers (and the biggest in Europe) rises. Next to the spring stand a chapel and a footbridge with a plaque – an ideal spot for a souvenir selfie!

In Ancient Rus’, the River Volga was always held in special esteem – it was described as “Mother Volga”, a multitude of towns were built along it and it provided food for a large number of Russian regions and continues to do so to this day. This is why pilgrimages have been made to its source for several centuries now. Back in the 17th century, a monastery stood there, but it burnt down and was never restored. A new one was, however, built in 1912 – the Olginsky Convent.

8. Shirkov Pogost

steve jobs yacht glass onion

This spot on the shores of Lake Vselug (today part of the Volga River) is dubbed the "Kizhi of the Tver Region". Like the famous Kizhi on Lake Onega , Shirkov Pogost is of interest because of its multi-tiered wooden church – in this case, the church of John the Baptist, a masterpiece of Russian wooden architecture, which was built in 1697.

According to one legend, the Pogost was named in honor of the Shirkov brothers, merchants who had the church built. They were taking two icons of John the Baptist from Novgorod to Moscow. On this spot, they laid down the sacred images and decided to rest, but they could not pick them up again – and, so, decided to build a church there without using a single nail!

9. Vyshny Volochyok

steve jobs yacht glass onion

The town got its name from the word ‘volok’ (‘portage’) – in other words, various watercraft were carried across a section of dry land between two bodies of water there. True enough, Vyshny Volochyok was on the watershed of the basins of the Baltic (Tsna River) and the Caspian (Tvertsa River, a tributary of the Volga). Under Peter I, the first artificial canal in Russia was built between the two rivers.

Vyshny Volochyok was always an important staging post on the route from Moscow (and Central Russia) to St. Petersburg. Because of its convenient location, there were many factories and production plants there, from garment factories to glass and woodwork facilities. Volochyok is also famous for the manufacture of ‘valenki’ (‘felt boots’) and it even has a museum devoted to this footwear and to the art of wool hand felting.

A host of old factory buildings, as well as houses that once belonged to affluent merchants in a great variety of styles, have survived in the town. A roadside imperial palace was also built there, which, today, houses a school.

10. Konakovo

steve jobs yacht glass onion

Until 1929, the village was called Kuznetsovo, after which it was renamed in honor of Porfiry Konakov, a participant in the 1905 Russian Revolution. The area is famous for its china. The Konakovo Pottery Factory was founded as early as 1809 and is one of the oldest in Russia. It is no longer in operation, but local craftspeople are using the legacy of its artistic workshop to revive production today. Items can be bought as a souvenir in Tver Region.

But, today's tourists know the location more as a fashionable riviera. Konakovo and nearby Zavidovo are popular places for recreational activities and water sports. People go sailing, wakesurfing and wakeboarding and there are a multitude of hotels and glamping sites for holiday stays. And the close proximity to the M11 motorway makes the location even more attractive (particularly to Muscovites, who can get there in just over an hour!).
