Westport Shipyard completed the building motor yacht BEACH GIRL in 2008. Accordingly, she has the distinction of being built in the United States. BEACH GIRL is a yacht which had yacht design work compiled by William Garden and Gregory C. Marshall and William Garden. This superyacht BEACH GIRL can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests aboard as well as 7 qualified crew.

Building & Designing of Luxury Yacht BEACH GIRL

William Garden was the naval architecture company involved in the formal vessel plans for BEACH GIRL. Also the company William Garden and Gregory C Marshall expertly collaborated on this undertaking. the United States is the country that Westport Shipyard constructed their new build motor yacht in. After the official launch in 2008 in Westport Wa she was afterwards handed over to the owner following sea trials and testing. Her main hull was crafted from composite. The motor yacht superstructure is fabricated for the most part with composite. With a beam of 7.92 m / 26 ft BEACH GIRL has moderate room. A shallow draught of 1.83m (6.6ft) determines the list of ports she can berth in, taking into account their individual characteristics.

Yachtsman Jim Glidewell and 130 Westport Motor Yacht Serengeti

A true yachtsman at heart, Jim Glidewell has owned many vessels, but the head-turning M/Y SERENGETI has a special place in his heart.

Glidewell’s 130-foot Westport, built in 2002 was previously called MARY ALICE II, but she was originally named SERENGETI by a Hollywood legend. In homage to her original owner, when Glidewell purchased the yacht, he reverted the name to SERENGETI, but also because “it’s bad luck to change the name of a boat,” he proclaims.

But let’s start at the beginning. In 1987, Glidewell purchased his first vessel, a 50-foot boat, which grew into a 63-foot Sea Ray, which lead him to an 84-foot Sunseeker. He then purchased a 95-foot Heesen dubbed VOYAGER. The next yacht was a 120-foot Broward called SOVEREIGN and from there, a 122-foot Flagship named SHOGUN. The culmination was a 154-foot Admiral named OHANA. The Glidewell family loved OHANA, but because his children were so young, the vessel did not receive as much use as she deserved, and she was destined for a sale.

Now, Glidewell proudly owns M/Y SERENGETI, which lives on the west coast of the Americas, chartering the Pacific from Mexico to Alaska. While SERENGETI is on the seas, Glidewell also owns a “back up” yacht in Newport Beach, an 82-foot Hatteras sportfish.

The 69-year-old yachtsman has lived on the West Coast his whole life. Glidewell was born in Las Vegas, moved to California for college and never looked back. Now living in Newport Beach with his wife and four children, Glidewell gets quite a bit of use out of SERENGETI.

“I mainly have boats for the kids,” says Glidewell. “It’s exciting sharing different ports of call with them.” His children range in age from four to 10. From June to September, SERENGETI is based in Juneau, Alaska, where she charters if the Glidewell’s aren’t on board. From October to May, the vessel lives in Newport Beach, California, occasionally heading south to La Paz or Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. “I love the balance of the Westport,” says Glidewell. “All of the systems work perfectly. We can run at 29 knots and cruise comfortably at 22. There are five staterooms, which work well for my family and, since I have an office in Newport, we use the vessel for company events. We have cocktail parties on board, and we’ve even taken her out to Catalina for weekends.”

A native to the area, Glidewell favors the U.S. and Mexican west coast. “I’ve been a pilot for 30 years and I used to fly to the west coast of Mexico often and stay in hotels, but now I can fly in and stay on my yacht, which I much prefer.” Other favorite yachting hubs for Glidewell are Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. He also loves The Bahamas, “I like it there better than the Caribbean islands.” Glidewell hasn’t spent time aboard yachts in the Mediterranean, but he has traversed the Panama Canal aboard three times.

One of his favorite yachting memories happened on M/Y SERENGETI quite recently. Glidewell brought the yacht and 20 guests to The Bahamas to attend the ShowBoats International Boys & Girls Clubs Rendezvous at the Atlantis resort. After the event, they cruised to the Exumas, in The Bahamas, for a double hook-up with Glidewell’s east-coast-based yacht M/Y OHANA. As many yachts only can host up to 12 guests, the double hook-up worked well for Glidewell, and “the critical mass of 20 people made the whole trip more enjoyable,” he says.

When it’s just the family on board, one of Glidewell’s favorite pastimes is fishing with his children. “Most people say they fish,” he laughs, “we catch.” Captain Mike Finnegan has been with Glidewell for five years, previously working as captain of SHOGUN, and he is an avid fisherman. “We catch everything from Dungeness crab to salmon, halibut, cod, and what we catch goes on the menu,” Glidewell smiles.

Recent Trip to Miami

The Beckham family recently took  a much-needed break vacationing  in Miami, Florida, and enjoying time on their yacht. While not quite as big as the massive SeaFair, their smaller version is definitely perfect for Cruz, Harper, Romeo, and Brooklyn. It’s a fun and unforgettable way to vacation. 

While in Miami, the family was invited to stay at singer Marc Anthony’s estate. Anthony is a good friend of the couple and lives in a posh Coral Gables neighborhood of the city. While here, Victoria and David spent time swimming, exercising, and enjoying Marc Anthony’s outgoing personality.

For example, they spent time in Anthony’s 12-bedroom Mediterranean estate, as well as  enjoying time on their yacht , cruising Biscayne Bay, and spending time in the Everglades. Sicily yacht sinking LIVE: British tech boss Mike Lynch 'among several missing' as Bayesian superyacht sinks

Four Britons are reportedly among six people missing after a luxury superyacht sailboat sunk off the coast of Sicily on Monday morning as a tornado hit the area.

A body has been found after the 56-metre boat, which had 22 people on board, sunk around 5am near Porticello, Palermo , Italian authorities reported.

British tech boss Mike Lynch is reportedly missing from the vessel, named by the SuperYacht Times as the Perini Navi sailing yacht Bayesian.

The daily Il Giornale de Sicilia reported the sailboat was flying a British flag and had been moored in the port at Porticello. It had set sail on Sunday evening.

The outlet reported that firefighter divers have recovered a body in their search for missing yachtsmen near the vessel’s hull.

The vessel had a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers, representing British, American and Canadian nationalities, the Italian coast guard said.

Fifteen people, including a one-year-old child, were rescued by Italian Coast Guard patrol boats and taken to shore at Porticello. Eight people were taken to hospital.

The child’s mother described how she “held her daughter tightly” amid the “fury of the waves”.

A helicopter and rescue boats from the coast guard, carabinieri, fire rescue and civil protection service were at the scene searching for the missing and had located the wreck at a depth of 50 metres.

Captain of nearby ship tells of rescue effort

The captain of a nearby boat has told of helping out with the rescue effort of the stricken Bayesian.

Karsten Borner said that when the storm hit he turned the engine on to keep control of the vessel and avoid a collision with the Bayesian.

"We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone," he said.

The Bayesian "went flat on the water, and then down," he added.

He said that his crew then found some of the survivors on a life raft - including three who were seriously injured and "a little baby and the wife of the owner" - and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

Missing Brit tech tycoon recently cleared on US fraud charges

British technology tycoon Mike Lynch is missing after the luxury yacht sank in bad weather off the coast of Sicily, according to reports.

Mr Lynch, previously dubbed Britain’s king of technology, was acquitted last month of allegations that he orchestrated fraud and conspiracy leading up to a deal.

He told media outlets at the time that he feared he would die in jail over the now-cleared charges.

The businessman was extradited to the US last May for a trial that acquitted him on all 15 felony counts over the 11-billion dollar (£8.64 billion) purchase of his company.

The 11-week criminal trial in San Francisco looked into Silicon Valley pioneer Hewlett Packard (HP)’s 2011 acquisition of Autonomy, a business software company that Mr Lynch founded and then oversaw as chief executive in Britain.

He had faced more than 20 years in US prison if convicted.

His wife Angela Bacares is among those rescued, the paper reported.

'Owner of superyacht and another child missing'

The captain of a nearby boat told Reuters that the owner of the Bayesian and another child are among those missing.

"After the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone," Karsten Borner told journalists.

He said that his crew then found some of the survivors on a life raft, including three who were seriously injured and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

Borner said "a little baby and the wife of the owner" were among the survivors, while the owner of the sunken ship and another child were among those missing.

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese have opened an investigation to look into what has gone wrong.

Mum of rescued girl tells of terror

The mother of a one-year-old girl who was rescued from the Bayesian has told of her terror as it sank.

She told of how managed to board a lifeboat with 10 other people as the boat capsized while clutching her baby daughter.

Speaking to Giornale Di Sicilia, she said: "For two seconds I lost my baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves.

"I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy. Many were screaming. Luckily the lifeboat inflated and 11 of us managed to get on board."

The girl has been taken to a nearby hospital and is in a stable condition.

What do we know about sunken Bayesian?

Bayesian, the yacht which capsized in Italy believed to be carrying British passengers, is 56 metres long, according to ship tracking website VesselFinder.

She was built in 2008 by Italian company Perini Navi.

Her registered owner is listed as Revtom Ltd.

There is little publicly-available online information about the company, which appears to be based on the Isle of Man.

Bayesian completed a number of sailings in recent days, calling at various ports in Sicily.

Witnesses have told of their shock at seeing the British-flagged Bayesian superyacht sink suddenly on Monday morning.

"I was at home when the tornado hit. I immediately closed all the windows. Then I saw the boat, it had only one mast, it was very big. I saw it sink suddenly", Pietro Asciutto, a fisherman from Porticello told Corierre Della Sera.

Another witness added: “That boat was all lit up. At around 4:30 in the morning it was gone. A beautiful boat where there had been a party.

“A normal holiday spent happily at sea turned into a tragedy. The boat was not far from the port. It took very little to raise the anchor and head for the port.

“Evidently they were surprised by the storm that suddenly hit and they were unable to avoid sinking."

Girl, 1, rescued from yacht wreck

A one-year-old child has been rescued from the downed yacht.

Eight of the 15 people rescued, including a one-year-old child, were transferred to local hospitals. All were in a stable condition, with the young girl reportedly given chest stitches for a slight graze.

The missing people were of British, American and Canadian nationality, the Italian coast guard said.

"The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude," a coast guard official in Palermo told Reuters.

Storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days - with floods and landslides causing major damage in the north of the country - after weeks of scorching heat.

Helicopter drafted in to search for missing passengers

The boat capsized at around 5am on Monday morning off the port of Porticello.

Experienced deep-water divers were arriving at the scene to try to enter the hull, said a fire brigade spokesperson.

Those who had not been rescued included one member of the crew and six passengers, the coast guard said.

Local media said a fierce storm, including water spouts, had battered the area overnight but the skies appeared clear by Monday morning.

On board with Bob and Amy Book, owners of 47m superyacht Book Ends

Having gone two years without a yacht, superyacht owners Bob and Amy Book are making up for lost time. They have crossed the Atlantic to explore the Med – and meet new friends along the way, as they explain to Risa Merl...

“Yachting defies common sense. It's really irrational when you think about it; a deep-rooted love,” says Bob Book, owner of 47 metre Heesen Book Ends , his 17th yacht of that name.

It was in the middle of their honeymoon more than 40 years ago in Acapulco, Mexico, that Book and his wife Amy discovered their passion for boating. The newly-weds went out on a little five metre boat along the coast, and Book was instantly smitten. “I went back every day until I got sun poisoning. I’m on my honeymoon in this very romantic place, and I couldn’t do anything! Good introduction to boating, right?” Book says with a laugh. Back home in New York, Book wasted no time and bought his first boat.

“It was a 25ft single screw. It had a mustard hull and yellow seats. Amy named it Book Ends , which has stuck all these years,” says Book. “I was the captain and she was my first mate. And we had no idea what we were doing.

”Since that time, the Books have become seasoned sailors, owning ever-larger Book Ends , including a Westport 112 and a 40 metre before their new Heesen. The maiden voyage of the first little yellow Book Ends was a short mosey down the Hudson River and around the Statue of Liberty. For second-generation Americans, whose grandparents arrived at Ellis Island as immigrants escaping troubles in Europe, seeing Lady Liberty from this perspective brought tears to Bob and Amy’s eyes. “Our grandparents arrived in steerage, and here we were in our own boat, living the American Dream,” says Book.

Truth be told, Bob Book is the American Dream incarnate. Born the son of a rabbi and raised on New York’s Lower East Side, Book’s idea of boating as a child was riding the Staten Island Ferry, which cost five cents. But a little ingenuity propelled him from immigrant’s son to serial entrepreneur before he even graduated from college.

“My first business was an accident,” Book says. He was attending NYU in 1970 and discovered there were 21 colleges and universities within the five boroughs of New York City and all were suffering from student housing shortages. The city was also at the height of its financial crisis and hotels were “in the doghouse”, as Book puts it, reporting less than 50 per cent occupancy. He saw an opportunity, and at only 19 he started his first business, a student housing company that worked with hotels to rent unused rooms to students. This expanded to offer rooms to young professionals as well, with its reach soon growing across the country and the world.

Book’s next business was a natural evolution. “I had thousands of students in lots of different hotels, and half of them couldn’t pay the rent each month,” he says. “So I started a temp service to find them jobs.” One of the students who was constantly broke was particularly good at making sandwiches, so Book came up with an angle. “Around 11 o’clock every night, I’d send him to all the rooms in hotels – just about the time when the kids would start getting the munchies because they were smoking grass – and he’d sell out his sandwiches every night!”

By the time Book graduated, the temp service was going strong, so he and a business partner started an employment agency. This was just the beginning of a long list of successful businesses that he has helmed over the years. A decade ago, he acquired what’s currently his biggest company, Jet Support Services, Inc (JSSI), the world’s top independent provider of aircraft maintenance programmes. Book is the chairman and one of his two sons, Neil, serves as CEO. JSSI has headquarters in Europe, Asia and Chicago, where Neil keeps his own boat on Lake Michigan.

“That’s his third boat in three years, so he’s following in my footsteps,” Book says, beaming with pride. “The first two boats were Sea Rays. Next year I think he’ll move into a 22.8 metre Viking ; and my grandson Sidney, who’s six, loves it!”

Being able to pass down the love of yachting to their children and grandchildren is part of the joy of yacht ownership for the Books. “Yachting is also a great way to keep your family together,” says Amy. “You know, ‘if you build it, they will come’? Well, if you have a boat, your family comes and spends time with you! It’s the best.”

Spending time on board with family and friends – and meeting new friends along the way – is a big part of the attraction for the Books. Every summer for seven years, they would rendezvous with their good friends, the owners of the 61 metre Hakvoort Just J’s . Before the summer of 2017, Book received a call from the owner of Just J’s saying he was planning to move the boat from Newport to the Med for the summer. “He asked me, ‘are you sure you’re going to have a boat by this summer?’” Book recalls.

The Books had found themselves in a rather unusual place – without a superyacht. Their previous Book Ends , a 40 metre Westport, had sold surprisingly swiftly, and they were in the middle of a two-year shopping trip to find the perfect yacht, one that would have the range and space they desired to go further afield than their usual cruising grounds of the Eastern Seaboard and Bahamas.

“I was in every shipyard in Europe for two years and spent almost $2 million shopping for a boat,” Book says, explaining he had marine surveyor Ian Kerr check out any boat he was serious about. “If you do it right, that’s a couple hundred thousand bucks. I would frankly never buy or build a boat without Ian overseeing it.”

When the owner of Just J’s called again to ask if he’d have a boat in time, Book responded positively, thinking he was about to close a deal. “But that deal blew up over lunch, and that’s when Thom Conboy [of Heesen Yachts] called me,” says Book. “I had just stepped out of the lunch and Thom said, ‘what’s it going to take to get you in this 47 metre?’” Book had been to Heesen on his yacht shopping tour, but because they were originally after a 55 metre, the 47 metre in build at the Dutch yard hadn’t caught their attention. “It was like divine intervention – we agreed on a price and 48 hours later I was in the shed.” In less than a month, they took delivery, just in time to join Just J’s in the Med.

The new Book Ends ticked a lot of the boxes – steel hull, long range, good storage – but it didn’t exactly match their preferred interior style. The Books like to have a simple base to personalise, and since taking delivery they’ve worked to tone down some aspects of the original design, adding simpler joinery, more white carpets and removing superfluous furnishings, all the while adding their signature bright orange hue and bold artwork, much collected on their travels.

In Portofino they bought pieces from a local artist, who they invited over for breakfast the next day. “He said no one had ever invited him on board before,” Book says. “And now I’m trying to arrange an exhibition for him in the States.”

Meeting new people, whether it’s the couple on the yacht next door in La Spezia or locals in the Med or Bahamas, is what keeps the Books interested. They prefer this over “seeing and being seen”. “Our favourite places might be places that not everyone likes,” says Amy. “Capri is beautiful, but it was not what we wanted. Because we were there in the summer, it was like Times Square on New Year’s Eve. We like places where we can walk around, where we can really talk to people. We’ve made so many friends because of the boat.”

During their six weeks in the Med, the Books particularly fell for Italy, and among their favourite spots were Elba and Forte dei Marmi. The latter is the home of their good friend Andrea Bocelli , who helped the couple find a new captain, and one of their favourite restaurants, Santa Monica, is nearby in Viareggio.

Though the Books value the friendships they’ve made, the yachting life is also filled with a healthy dose of competition. They own a Viking 62 sportfisher and are about to take delivery of a Viking 72. The Vikings, named Book Ends Team Hookers, are put to work in fishing tournaments along the US East Coast and in the Bahamas. Book says fishing itself is boring – it’s the tournament atmosphere and meeting people from all walks of life that he enjoys. “I love the competition,” he says. “I have a great team whoall want to win. There’s an old expression, ‘show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser’. So the fishing is always competitive, and it’s a lot of fun.” Book heads to Bahamas-based tournaments with a fleet – Book Ends serving as the mothership while the Viking and his Scout 42 head out to the fishing grounds.

Bob and Amy plan to spend even more time on board this summer. Book relishes the fact that he can work from his on board office. “Nobody knows where I am! We could have a board meeting and they just assume I’m in the office – no one knows I’m really in Italy.”

It’s not all been unalloyed good times, but the Books are experienced enough to know that peaks always follow troughs. “So many times I’ve said I’m getting out, it’s just not worth it; it’s so much stress, it’s so expensive and so many things can go wrong – and they usually do in boating,” Book says. “But then you have a summer like we had, six weeks cruising all over the Med and discovering places. You know if you leave it, you wouldn’t be sitting here, you’d be sitting on a couch somewhere watching a football game.”

Amy adds: “And we would never have gone to some of these places without the boat. Even if people do go by land, there’s no comparison to seeing these places from the water and having your home with you.”

One dead and six missing after British-flagged yacht sinks off Italy

Teen girls reportedly sexually assaulted on bournemouth beach.

TWO teenage girls were reportedly sexually assaulted by a group of men on Bournemouth beach.

It was reported that the two 16-year-old girls were assaulted while sat on lilos in the sea on Monday, August 12.

Between 1.30pm and 2pm the girls were in the water to the east of Bournemouth Pier when they encountered a group of men with two double lilos.

The girls sat on one of the lilos before the men reportedly touched them inappropriately.

They jumped off and made their way back to the shore.

A 22-year-old man from London has since been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and was subsequently released on police bail.

Detective constable Hele Leech-Wilkinson, of BCP CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and work is ongoing to identify two other men reported to be involved.

“I would urge anyone who was at the beach on the afternoon of Monday 12 August 2024 and witnessed any suspicious activity, or anybody with further information that might assist our investigation, to please contact us.”

A spokesperson said: “Dorset Police is working with local partners to provide a visible presence on Bournemouth seafront throughout the summer months and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.

A man has died and six people are missing after a UK-flagged superyacht sank off the coast of Sicily in a tornado - with a prominent British businessman among those unaccounted for. Sky News understands technology tycoon Mike Lynch owned the 56-metre vessel (183ft), named Bayesian, which has been described as one of the biggest superyachts in the world. The superyacht he is believed to have owned, which had 22 people on board, sank off the coast of Palermo at around 4:30am local time (3:30am UK time) on Monday.

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna responded to years-old footage of the Donald Trump-backing lawmaker dancing in a MAGA-themed swimsuit that resurfaced Wednesday.

The 35-year-old pol sported the suit in a 2016 video to show her support for Trump before she began serving in the House of Representatives at the start of last year.  

Luna leaned into the social media stir while she blamed liberals for the unearthed images in a series of tweets.

“I’m confirming that I have indeed worn swimsuits and you can tell I am biologically a woman,” she snarked on X with the hashtag “MAGA.”

The Republican also noted she was previously featured by Sports Illustrated and Maxim while also designing swimwear and women’s shirts before she took a shot at Democrats.

“I have a confession to make since the TikTok Democrats are onto me: I wear bikinis to the beach and mineral sunscreen,” she wrote .

“There are better [things] to do with your time than digging up modeling photos of me from almost a decade ago,” she wrote in a follow-up post.

“The left is attempting to make this a thing yet can’t define a woman. Very low IQ behavior. Get over it.”

The GOP congresswoman, who served in the Air Force, has been a strong supporter of Trump, 78, as he runs for the White House against Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, 59.
