Sail Away to Fun: Nautical Party Ideas for a Maritime Adventure on the High Seas!

If you're looking to host a party that sets sail into a sea of fun and adventure, a nautical-themed gathering is the perfect choice. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, a graduation, or just want an excuse to bring friends and family together, a maritime-themed party is sure to make waves. In this blog post, we'll dive deep into nautical party ideas that will help you create an unforgettable maritime adventure on the high seas.

Setting the Scene

Nautical Party Ideas

The success of any party begins with the right atmosphere. When it comes to a nautical-themed party, creating the perfect maritime setting is essential. Here's how you can set the scene:

  • Invitations

Start by designing invitations that resemble old treasure maps or ship logs. Use parchment-style paper and add nautical symbols like anchors, steering wheels, and compass roses. Don't forget to include witty phrases like "Chart a course for adventure!" to get your guests excited about the journey ahead.

  • Decorations

Transform your party space into a maritime wonderland. Hang fishnets, lifebuoys, and seashells on the walls. Use navy blue, white, and red as your primary color scheme to evoke a classic nautical vibe. You can also scatter sand or crushed seashells on the floor to mimic the feel of a beach.

  • Table Settings

Set the tables with maritime flair. Choose navy blue and white striped tablecloths, and use rope or jute twine as napkin rings. Place miniature sailboats or lighthouses as centerpieces. For place cards, opt for seashell-shaped holders with each guest's name on them.

Dress the Part

To fully immerse your guests in the maritime adventure, encourage them to dress in nautical attire. Here are some ideas for dressing the part:

Captain and Crew: Some guests can come as the captain of the ship, complete with a captain's hat and a navy blazer, while others can dress as crew members with sailor hats and striped shirts.

Pirates: Invite some guests to embrace their inner pirates with eye patches, bandanas, and plenty of "Ahoy, matey!" greetings.

Mermaids and Mermen: For a touch of fantasy, some guests can dress as mermaids with seashell bras and flowing, shimmering skirts, while others can be mermen with tridents and scales.

Nautical Eats and Treats

Nautical Eats and Treats

No party is complete without delicious food and treats. Here's how you can infuse a nautical theme into your menu:

  • Seafood Extravaganza

Serve a seafood feast with options like shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, and fish tacos. Don't forget to offer a variety of dipping sauces and lemon wedges for that extra zing.

  • Nautical-Inspired Desserts

Get creative with your desserts. Craft anchor-shaped cookies, sea-themed cupcakes with edible seashells, and a cake resembling a treasure chest overflowing with edible jewels.

  • Ocean-Inspired Drinks

Serve up refreshing ocean-inspired beverages like blue raspberry lemonade or a signature cocktail like "The Captain's Grog." Don't forget to provide non-alcoholic options for guests of all ages.

Games and Activities

Nautical party Games and Activities

Keep your guests entertained with nautical-themed games and activities:

  • Treasure Hunt

Organize a treasure hunt where guests follow a series of clues to find hidden "buried treasure." Use pirate-themed props and maps for added authenticity.

Set up a small pool or basin for miniature boat races. Guests can decorate and race toy boats, competing for the title of the fastest sailor.

  • Nautical Trivia

Test your guests' maritime knowledge with nautical trivia questions and see who can earn the title of "Master of the High Seas."

Party Favors

Nautical Party Favors

Send your guests off with a little piece of the maritime adventure to remember the party by. Some great party favor ideas include:

Nautical Keychains: Customized keychains with the date of the party and a nautical charm.

Seashell Soaps: Handcrafted seashell-shaped soaps that smell like the ocean.

Message in a Bottle: Miniature bottles filled with a personalized thank-you message and some sand or seashells.

Nautical Playlist

To keep the maritime ambiance going, curate a playlist filled with sea shanties, classic nautical tunes, and ocean-inspired melodies. Songs like "Sailing" by Christopher Cross, "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin, and "Rock the Boat" by Hues Corporation can add the perfect soundtrack to your maritime adventure.

Creative Photo Booth

Set up a photo booth area with nautical-themed props such as sailor hats, captain's wheel, and lifebuoys. Encourage your guests to take memorable photos that will serve as souvenirs from the high seas adventure. You can even provide a backdrop featuring an ocean or a pirate ship for that extra touch of authenticity.

Nautical Crafts

For a fun and interactive activity, set up a crafting station where guests can make their own nautical-themed keepsakes. Provide materials for creating friendship bracelets with marine-themed charms or decorating wooden picture frames with seashells and beach glass. This not only keeps your guests engaged but also gives them a unique memento to take home.

Maritime Movie Marathon

If you have the space, consider setting up an outdoor movie screening with classic maritime films such as "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Finding Nemo," or "Captain Phillips." Provide blankets and popcorn for an enjoyable cinematic experience under the stars.

Sunset Cruise (Virtual or Real)

If your budget allows, consider taking your guests on a real sunset cruise if you're near the coast. Alternatively, you can organize a virtual sunset cruise experience by streaming a prerecorded video of a serene sea journey on a big screen. Provide drinks and appetizers for a relaxing evening on the "high seas."

A nautical-themed party is an exciting way to celebrate any occasion and create lasting memories. By paying attention to the details like decorations, costumes, delicious treats, and engaging activities, you can ensure that your maritime adventure on the high seas is a resounding success. For all your nautical party needs, Home & Hoopla Shop is your go-to destination. We offer an incredible selection of nautical-themed decorations, tableware, party favors, and more, ensuring that your event sails smoothly from start to finish.

Frat Party Themes

Planning out your fraternity's next event can be complicated. Here at Turnipblood Entertainment we aim to make that process as seamless as possible. Adding a theme to your event can help turn an average party into one for the history books, that’s why we’ve put together a list of our favorite themes we’ve seen throughout the years!

Frat Party Themes

Is your party environment feeling stale? Here are some ideas to make things a bit more fresh.

Decades: A classic right off the bat, pick a decade or let people choose their own! This theme is bound to be a success as long as you play enough throwbacks. It’s always comical seeing college students interpretations of different eras. Some of the most common themes you will find at these parties will be roaring 20’s, 50’s grease, 60s-70s hippie, 80’s disco, and the 90’s boy band. You can’t deny the fun in traveling back in time!

Get Nauti: Set sail for party island with this theme. Ocean based themes are a great way to change things up, just let the weather warm up first! At these parties, you can find most people wearing sailor hats and mostly dressed in blue. The idea is that you dress up as a sailor, and act as a sailor, and talk like a sailor. This is a party you might even find a few pirates at.

Ski Lodge: Hit the slopes with this winter party theme. Snow isn’t required but adds a nice touch! The “snow” used is typical styrofoam pieces thrown around the frat house, so as you can imagine it gets pretty messy. You would want to show up to this party dressed in your best winter outfit. Any fuzzy hat, sweaters, ski boots, scarfs, etc is a must. Drinks are extra icey and you can expect to leave this event with styrofoam in your hair.

Frat Party Themes

Monster Mash: Halloween parties always go down as one of the best of the year. Just don’t wait to get a costume till the last minute! Costumes can be anything under the sun, as long as you show up in a costume then you're doing it right. Typically these parties will be low lighting with a spooky theme. Even the music may start to get eerie. The decorations you find here will likely be fake spider webs and pumpkins around the house.

Out of this World: Take your next event to the stars with this theme. Aliens, astronauts, or maybe just some neon colors, you decide! Girls typically will have bright makeup such as blue lipstick and two buns in their hair to be as alienated as possible. One thing for sure is that there will be lots of shiny glitter and bright lighting to make the party feel out of this world! ‍

Ugly Sweater: A classic around the holidays! An ugly sweater themed party lets people express themselves in the most uncomfortable clothing money can buy. The best place to shop for this party is Walmart. There you will find the best/cheapest ugly sweaters money can buy. The uglier the better! Some of the best sweaters at this party are easily seen by having blinking lights attached to them.

Duck Calls and Overalls: This theme will take you down the back roads. A great option regardless of the season, just leave the firearms at home! Long, short, ripped, or tie dye, all overalls are welcomed at this party! Dress and prepare as if you're headed down a country road, you never know what to expect except the fact that it is likely going to get down and dirty. ‍

Toga: The classic fraternity party theme. All you need is a bedsheet and some ingenuity to let out your inner greek! A lot of time people will spice this up by wearing white sashes around their bodies and thick, white headbands around their heads. White is typically the color of the togas but really any color would work! All that matters is you come in your toga ready to party. ‍

Jersey Party

Draft a Date: A great date party theme regardless of the time of year. Grab your jerseys and hit up your first round pick! If you and your date have jerseys that are the same or from the same sports team, even better! It is always fun to coordinate with your date on outfits to keep the theme alive. This party may be followed up by football or basketball games being played on the screens around the event. ‍

Fratalina Wine Mixer: Be classy and trashy with this party theme. Suit recommended, boxed wine sold separately. Heels and cocktail dresses are worn by the girls. While you should come looking classy, you are not expected to leave acting classy. Wine bags get passed around to almost everybody who wants it while you and your date get to sit back and enjoy. ‍

Angels and Demons: Grab your halos and horns then Choose whether you're naughty or nice with this great date party theme. Angels wear white followed by angel wings and white sparkle glitter while demons are dressed red and black with horns on their head. Coordinate this with a partner while making sure one of you is the angel while the other is the demon. This party is always a hit! ‍

Alice in Wonderland: Put up some wild decorations and take a trip down the rabbit hole with this party theme! As you can guess, these parties are filled with guests dressed up as their favorite Alice in Wonderland character. Do not be afraid to get weird with this theme! People here love to see great costumes and a good time. ‍

Casino Night: For the classiest night of your college experience look no further than this party theme, just make sure to tip the dealers! For girls, wear a little black dress embellished with gold and silver jewelry. For the guys, a simple suit and tie will do. This party is all about having fun and making plenty of bets throughout the night. ‍

Dynamic Duos: Batman and Robin, salt and pepper, the options are endless with this great date party theme! Grab a partner and together decide what would be the most fun due to replicate. Whether it is celebrity couples, cartoon characters, or just ordinary objects, any duo will be gladly accepted! This party is by far one of the most exciting ones for people to plan costumes for. ‍

Paint party

Paint Party: A messy but exciting time, just throw up some blacklights and throw down some tarps for this unforgettable theme! Be sure to wear something you are not afraid to get paint on because it is guaranteed to get messy. However, once the night is over and all the paint has been thrown, you will wake up to a masterpiece! ‍

Jurassic Party: Take a trip back in time with this party theme. Cavemen and Cavewomen welcome! Dinosaur costumes are also encouraged for anyone who can pull that off. And if you can not think of anything else to wear, anyone dressed in camouflage will also do. Decoration may include a jungle theme so look out for plants such as massive amounts of bamboo and fake wildlife that can be found throughout the party! ‍

ABC Party: Anything But Clothes is a classic theme that’ll let you show off your fashion sense! This is the perfect chance to get creative with anything you can find around your house. Duck tape, caution tape, kitchen towels, cardboard boxes, candy wrappers, cereal boxes, etc. Anything that fits, works. It might take time thinking or an idea and making it come to life, but it will be worth it! ‍

Link and Drink: Grab your date, get handcuffed and drink together all night! It doesn't have to be real handcuffs, some string tied about both you and your dates wrist will do just fine. This is all about bonding and getting to drink at the same pace as your date. Even though people typically do not want to stay attached very long, it is still a fun way to kick off a party! ‍

Back to School Night: Remember your high school uniforms? Well this is the party you're going to want to bring them out! Come dressed in your old uniform, whatever that may have been. This could be pleated skirts and oxford shirts for the girls. For the boys it could be your old private school tie. Either way, be sure you're dressed as if you're back in your high school days, but the college version. ‍

The Fitness Fling: Don't get the wrong impression, dancing will be your only exercise at this party. But be sure to bring your best 80’s workout clothes! This includes colorful headbands, leggings, scrunchies, and leotards. The classic 80’s workout video vibe is what people will show up as, so don't miss out on getting to year your moms old leg warmers. ‍

Masquerade:   Keep incognito while having a great time! This is the perfect chance to pick out the best mask you can find and actually have a chance to wear it. With everyone at the party wearing a mask, it will seem as if you are in The Great Gatsby. This is a great way to bring people together for an unforgettable time. ‍

Q. How do you get the nautical look?

Ans. Choose a color scheme of blue, white, red, and khaki. White with royal blue stripes is the traditional sailor attire. The goal is to complement the classic sailor suit’s color palette with additional colors such as red, khaki, or light brown. Stripes in these tones appear very nautical.

Q. What do you wear on a boat party?

Ans. If the party is more formal, you should wear blue, white, or red jeans with a button-down shirt or a dress. You can get away with wearing your swimwear and a shirt or coverup to a more casual party.

Q. What is the coastal casual dress code for a nautical themed party?

Ans. If the invitation mentions “beach chic” or “coastal casual,” depending on the coast, they either call for classic florals or flowy maxis.” While there are no hard and fast laws about any dress code, you should avoid wearing sequins or black and go for brighter colours such as white, blue, and red stripes.

There are lots of fraternity and sorority social themes to choose from to make any gathering a success.

The best sorority party themes stick to a topic that everyone knows and can interpret in their own way. You want to have themes for parties that allow people to express their sense of creativity.

If you're trying to come up with unique party themes for your next fraternity or sorority social event, read on. Below, we're reviewing some fun fraternity and sorority theme party ideas that you can try for social events throughout the year.

  • The Recent Past

College party themes that pay homage to the 1920s will always be popular. Anyone who has ever read The Great Gatsby will love the idea of spending a night immersed in that world. Those nights can be fun, but there are more unique ways to have a decade-themed party.

Instead of going so far back in time, take some inspiration from the recent past. The 1980s or 1990s are fun theme ideas because everyone will have a reference point. They can be inspired by favorite childhood memories or popular fashions. Choosing a more recent time period is a fun and easy way to get in on the decade party theme.

Celebrity is a popular party theme because people love the chance to feel famous for the night. This party theme may take a little bit more effort, but it can be well worth it to live like your favorite star for the evening. It's also a chance for you to poke fun at some of the most famous faces out there, earning some laughs along the way.

Challenge people to recreate their favorite celebrity's most iconic and recognizable look. Actors, actresses, singers and sports stars are obvious choices. If you wanted to be a little more creative, you could think of reality TV stars or news anchors, which may not be as obvious of a choice.

  • Biker Boys and Babes

Theme ideas that can have a double meaning are always fun for a party because you never know how guests will interpret it. With a theme like "bikers," there are a couple of options.

Some party guests will probably think of motorcycle riders and show up in leather jackets, bandanas and motorcycle insignia. Others may think of more traditional cyclists, and bike riders and come in spandex and bike helmets. It's always fun to see what your brothers or sisters will do with a theme.

That mix of costumes and styles will make the party even more fun, and the pictures will be even better for sharing.

  • Cartoon Characters

If you know that your party guest list is going to be big, cartoon characters are one of the best theme party ideas. There are so many cartoon characters to choose from, so attendees will have a lot of options.

People also have very personal attachments to cartoon characters, depending on what they grew up watching. It's a great way to let people relive their childhood through the medium of their costume. Cartoon character parties are especially great for Halloween and fall events.

  • Unique Holidays

Lots of fraternities and sororities like to throw theme parties for popular holidays like Christmas, Halloween or Valentine's Day. Those parties are always fun, but they can get boring quickly.

For a more exciting party, consider a holiday that doesn't get as much mainstream attention. You could throw an Arbor Day party , for example, or a party that is President's Day themed. There are lots of opportunities for creative costumes and themed decorations, and people will appreciate the chance to try something new. Plus, by choosing a unique holiday, you'll have the chance to explore some lesser-known traditions.

  • Seven Deadly Sins

Over the years, the seven deadly sins have become a common pop culture reference. Because of this, almost everyone has some knowledge of them and what they are.

To have a party that sticks with the theme of "seven deadly sins," have each guest choose which sin they want to dress up as. Obviously, there will be some overlap, but no two people will interpret the same sin in exactly the same way. You can have some really interesting costumes result from this theme, and some great pictures too.

  • Slumber Party

If you love the idea of going out for the night and actually being comfortable, then a slumber party theme party is perfect! Rather than wearing dresses, jeans or other tight clothes, everyone can show up in their pajamas, then kick back and relax for the night. Pop on a movie, play truth or dare and just have fun. Wear your favorite T-shirt and pajama pants, a nightgown or a matching pajama set. Try a sleep mask as an accessory and get ready for a night of cozy fun. This low-key party theme is perfect for sororities.

  • Dynamic Duos

When it comes to thinking of themes for parties, two heads are sometimes better than one -

literally. Dynamic Duos is a great theme that lets people partner with their significant other or best friend on complementary costumes. Choose from famous celebrity couples, like Sonny and Cher, or classic combos, like peanut butter and jelly. Dynamic Duos is the perfect theme for date night parties.

A nautical-themed party takes all the fun you can have at sea and makes it possible on land. It's one of the easier themed parties to dress and decorate for, but it will still get people excited to go out and socialize. You can mix up your nautical night by renting a boat and actually going out to sea.

For your outfit, think navy blue and white stripes, and accessorize with sailor hats. Decorate the place with anchors, mix up some fun drinks and you've got a great night ahead.

  • Anything But Human

For a truly unique and somewhat silly themed party, insist that your guests come as "anything but human." Favorite animals, favorite foods or even mythical creatures are all fair game for costume ideas. You never know what your guests will show up as, which makes it all the more fun. The only rule is that you can't come as a human, so famous people or human characters are off-limits.

The Ultimate Guide to Planning Fraternity Parties with Unique Themes

  • January 26, 2024

Samantha "Sam" Sparks

  • Student Community Centre

Fraternity parties are about more than just good times. They are an integral part of Greek life that help cultivate brotherhood and unity among fraternity members. Themed parties can elevate this experience, providing not only a fun-filled event but also encouraging creative expression and camaraderie within the community.

This comprehensive guide aims to explore the process of planning unforgettable fraternity parties with distinctive themes that can create a lasting impact on fraternity life and college memories.

The Role of Fraternity Parties in College Life

Choosing the right theme, theme idea 1: retro rewind night, theme idea 2: carnival extravaganza, theme idea 3: hollywood red carpet affair, theme idea 4: toga toga toga, theme idea 5: destination luau, theme idea 6: superhero spectacular, theme idea 7: masquerade ball extravaganza, theme idea 8: around the world adventure, theme idea 9: sci-fi space odyssey, planning and organization, safety and responsibility, promotion and guest list, event execution and entertainment, post-party reflection and feedback.

Fraternity parties are often regarded as social highlights in a college student’s life. These events foster bonding among fraternity members and allow others to develop new friendships. They offer a platform for students to unwind from academic rigors and immerse themselves in social interaction. Themed parties can further amplify this experience, providing a focal point that cultivates conversation, shared experiences, and a sense of unity.

Research indicates fraternities and sororities have a positive impact on students, especially first-year ones. It notes that participation in such social events can enhance social skills, significantly contributing to personal and professional success. Effectively, well-executed themed parties infuse fun into college life and contribute to students’ holistic development.

Selecting the best frat party themes is the first step toward planning a successful fraternity party. The chosen theme should align with your fraternity’s values, hobbies, and overall personality. It should provide room for creativity, be engaging, and ideally be unique enough to distinguish your event from the sea of college parties happening throughout the year.

While classic themes such as “Decades,” “Sports,” or “Halloween,” are evergreen crowd-pleasers, exploring unconventional themes can offer a fresh and memorable experience to your guests. The theme of the party sets the tone for the decor, costumes, music, and even the food and drinks, so it’s important to choose wisely.

A Retro Rewind Night theme is a perfect way to take a trip down memory lane. Selecting a specific decade or era like the groovy ’70s, neon-infused ’80s, or the pop-culture rich ’90s can offer your party a distinctive vibe. This theme not only provides easy costume ideas but also a plethora of decor and music options.

Decorating your venue with iconic items from the era, such as hanging records for a ’50s sock hop or neon signs for an ’80s disco, can create a nostalgic atmosphere. A playlist featuring hit tracks from the era can set the right mood and get everyone on the dance floor.

Turning your fraternity party into a Carnival Extravaganza can provide a fun-filled evening for your guests. This theme caters to everyone with its assortment of games, treats, and activities.

Arranging for traditional carnival games like ring toss, dart throw, or a dunk tank can provide entertainment throughout the event. Classic carnival snacks like popcorn, cotton candy, and hot dogs can be served to complete the experience. Use vibrant banners, pennants, and balloons for decorations to fully realize the carnival atmosphere.

Add a dose of glitz and glamor to your fraternity party with a Hollywood Red Carpet Affair theme. This theme exudes sophistication and style, offering your guests an opportunity to dress to the nines and revel in the limelight, much like their favorite celebrities at a movie premiere or awards night.

The decor should reflect the luxurious vibe of Hollywood, with a red carpet entrance, a backdrop for photo ops, and perhaps even a mock awards ceremony. The choice of music, food, and drinks can also mirror high-profile Hollywood parties, adding authenticity to your event.

The toga party is a timeless theme that connects modern Greek life with its ancient roots. This theme is not only fun but also easy to implement. It requires little more than a bedsheet for the costumes and some Greek-inspired decorations.

A toga party can be a relaxed, casual event with fun activities and traditional Greek food. You can even add elements like Greek mythology trivia or statue impersonation contests to spice up the party. This theme can offer a unique blend of tradition, fun, and creativity.

Transport your fraternity members and guests to a tropical paradise with a Destination Luau theme. This theme is an instant hit, especially during the warmer months. It allows everyone to let down their hair and enjoy the casual, beachy vibes.

Decorate your venue with tropical elements like palm leaves, tiki torches, and vibrant flowers. Serving tropical drinks and food can add to the authenticity of the theme. And if possible, hosting the party outdoors in the evening would perfectly capture the essence of an island luau.

If your fraternity members are fans of the Marvel or DC universes, then a Superhero Spectacular theme would be a perfect fit. This theme offers a plethora of options for costumes, decor, and activities.

You can decorate the venue with comic book posters, cityscape backdrops, and themed props. Arrange for superhero-themed games or hold a costume contest to keep your guests entertained. Superhero-themed food and drinks can add the finishing touch to your party.

A Masquerade Ball theme can take the elegance and mystique of your fraternity party up a notch. This theme encourages guests to dress in semi-formal attire and don intricate masks, adding an element of intrigue and sophistication to the event.

Decorate the venue with ornate elements and rich colors, and plan for an elegant menu to match the theme. You can also host a “best mask” contest to encourage creativity in line with the party’s central theme. This theme can provide a night of elegance, mystery, and fun.

An Around the World Adventure theme can turn your party into a global extravaganza. This theme allows for the representation of different cultures or countries in different areas of the party venue.

You could set up a ‘France’ zone complete with a mini Eiffel Tower and cheese tasting, or a ‘Japan’ zone with sushi and origami. This theme not only guarantees a rich diversity of food, drinks, and decor, but it can also be a cultural learning experience.

For the geeks among you, a Sci-Fi Space Odyssey theme could be the perfect fit. This theme can provide a futuristic vibe to your party, complete with extraterrestrial decorations, space-age costumes, and stellar activities.

Decorations could include hanging planets and stars, alien inflatables, and futuristic lighting. Encourage attendees to dress as their favorite sci-fi characters. Organize space-themed games or activities to keep everyone entertained, making your party a thrilling trip through the cosmos.

Planning and organization lie at the core of creating a phenomenal fraternity party. First and foremost, the party’s initial stages should include identifying the party’s purpose, determining a budget, and framing a realistic timeline. The budget should cater to all the necessary elements – venue, decor, food and drinks, entertainment, and emergency contingencies. It’s pivotal to monitor the expenses and keep them in check to avoid monetary mishaps.

Event logistics comprise the selection of the venue, arranging transport (if needed), and preparing a detailed plan for setting up the party. A systematic layout plan detailing the placement of the food and drink stalls, DJ booth, seating arrangements, and game zones, if any, can contribute to a smoother execution.

There are numerous event management tools and resources available today. Platforms like Eventbrite, Meetup, and Trello offer efficiencies in event planning, ticket sales, task management, and attendee coordination. Use these digital tools to your advantage to streamline the planning process and ensure a well-organized event.

According to a survey by Bizzabo, 72.5% of organizers use event registration software, 89% leverage event marketing tools, and 54% utilize survey tools. These statistics emphasize the effectiveness and indispensability of well-organized events in today’s digital era.

Fraternity parties, while being a hub of fun and relaxation, also require a keen emphasis on safety and responsibility. It’s crucial to have practical safety measures in place. The use of wristbands or hand stamps can help identify legal drinkers and manage alcohol consumption responsibly. Proper lighting, security staff, and clear exit paths are other safety essentials to consider.

Safety protocols can range from first-aid provisions, appointing a responsible “sober brother” for each event, to a well-established plan for any emergency situations. It is also prudent to consider risk reduction strategies, like sexual assault prevention measures and hiring professional bouncers.

A report from the Harvard School of Public Health indicated that living in a fraternity or sorority house is a strong indicator of binge drinking.  Therefore, advocating safety, especially in terms of alcohol consumption, is essential in minimizing the risk of harmful consequences or potential incidents.

To ensure a well-attended event, effective promotion is crucial. Use social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat to create event pages and share updates about the party. Offline promotion methods like word-of-mouth, flyers, or college radio announcements can also be effective in spreading the word.

Managing the guest list is another crucial aspect. Online tools like Evite or Google Sheets can help track RSVPs and manage guest lists effectively. It’s important to anticipate the number of attendees for adequate preparation, and these tools can assist in doing so.

Statistics from 2020’s Event Marketing Report showed that 73% of event organizers use social media for event marketing, underlining its potential influence on event attendance. The same report also found that 57% of organizers consider email marketing as the most effective promotion strategy, demonstrating the importance of a varied promotion approach.

Entertainment is the cornerstone of any party. The choice of entertainment, be it a live band, DJ, or a curated playlist, should align with the theme. Besides music, consider other entertainment forms, like games, contests, or performances. These can foster interaction, fun, and lasting memories.

Examples of successful entertainment ideas at fraternity parties range from mechanical bull rides, karaoke sessions, photo booths, to themed dance-offs. The key is to keep the energy levels high and the attendees engaged.

As per a survey conducted by EventMB, the three most impactful event aspects are the venue, food and beverage, and event content (including entertainment). This highlights the critical role entertainment plays in enhancing the overall party experience.

Post-event reflection is an essential ritual that should be undertaken once the party concludes. Discuss the event’s overall success, what worked, what didn’t, and identify areas of improvement. These post-party rituals and discussions among fraternity members can yield valuable insights for future events.

Collecting feedback from attendees can also provide a fresh perspective on the event’s performance. Utilize online survey tools to gather feedback regarding the party theme, venue, entertainment, food and beverages, and overall management.

A survey from Cvent reports that 90% of event planners use feedback surveys during their events. This statistic underscores the fact that learning from each event helps in enhancing the quality of future parties, leading to better experiences, satisfied guests, and a stronger fraternity reputation.

Fraternal parties with innovative themes not only offer an exciting twist on social gatherings but also cement your fraternity’s standing on campus. The planning process, while challenging, reaps rewarding results in the form of unforgettable experiences and strengthened bonds among fraternity members.

Armed with this guide, your fraternity is well-poised to host memorable theme parties that will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Here’s to fraternity life, unforgettable parties, and the glorious college memories that follow!

How do you throw a party on a yacht?

A group of friends has fun at a Hollywood yacht theme party.

To throw a party on a yacht, here’s a short step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Choose the yacht: Select a suitable yacht for your party. Consider the size of your guest list, the amenities available on the yacht, and the duration of your event. Ensure the yacht meets all safety requirements and has the necessary licenses.

Step 2: Set a date and time: Determine the date and time for your yacht party, keeping in mind the availability of the yacht and the convenience of your guests. Plan to ensure you secure the desired date.

Step 3: Determine the guest list: Create a guest list and send out invitations well in advance. Consider the yacht’s capacity and ensure your guest list aligns with it. Provide clear RSVP instructions to manage attendance.

Step 4: Choose a theme: Select a theme for your yacht party to add an element of excitement. Consider the preferences and interests of your guests and tailor the theme accordingly. Themes for boat parties can range from elegant and formal to fun and casual, depending on the occasion.

Step 5: Plan the menu: Decide on the type of food and beverages you want to serve. Consider the logistics of catering on a yacht, such as limited kitchen space and the need for stable serving options. Opt for easy-to-eat and well-prepared dishes that cater to different dietary preferences.

Step 6: Decorate the yacht: Enhance the ambiance by decorating the yacht to match your chosen theme. Use appropriate decorations suitable for the yacht environment and securely fasten them to withstand movement. Consider the size of the yacht and ensure decorations do not obstruct any safety equipment.

Step 7: Coordinate entertainment: Plan entertainment options to keep guests engaged throughout the party. This can include live music, a DJ, games, or hiring a professional entertainer. Consider the available space on the yacht and the preferences of your guests.

Step 8: Ensure safety: Prioritize the security of your guests by having life jackets, first aid kits, and safety equipment readily available on the yacht. Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures and communicate them to your guests.

Step 9: Communicate details: Keep your guests informed about the logistics, such as the boarding location, parking options, and any specific instructions related to the yacht party. Provide clear directions to ensure a smooth boarding process.

Step 10: Enjoy the party: On the day of the party, double-check all arrangements, including food, beverages, decorations, and entertainment. Greet your guests, ensure their comfort, and enjoy the festivities on the yacht.

Incorporating a captivating yacht party theme can take your celebrations to extraordinary heights. With careful planning, strategic decorations, and attention to detail, you can create a memorable yacht party experience that will be discussed for years. So, set sail with the perfect yacht party theme and let the festivities begin!

Picture this: a gentle breeze, sparkling waters, and the camaraderie of your closest friends and family members, all aboard a stylish boat rental (thanks, Boatsetter !) To help you start planning your best boat party, we’ve compiled a list of nine themes for a boat party they’ll never forget.

  • Nautical extravaganza
  • Tropical paradise
  • Pirate adventure
  • Under the sea
  • Gatsby glamor
  • Hawaiian luau
  • Mardi Gras madness
  • All-white party

Got your party hat on? Let’s dive right in.

Boatsetter’s happy to help—Throw your party on a boat rental!

1. Nautical extravaganza

Nautical theme boat party.

Lean into the magic of being on the water with a Nautical Extravaganza boat party theme. Think navy and white decorations, ropes, and sailor hats. Your guests can dress the part in sailor and captain costumes, or keep it simple with white attire and navy accents.

Whether you’re catering or cooking yourself, fish and chips is a simple classic, as timeless as the nautical theme! And you can spice things up with a signature Captain’s Punch or Blue Lagoon Cocktails.

2. Tropical paradise

Tropical theme boat party.

Transform your boat into a slice of serenity with a Tropical Paradise boat party. Illuminate your decks with tiki torches, hang vibrant palm leaves, and drape colorful fabrics to recreate the lush allure of a tropical oasis.

Bring this boat party theme to life with Piña Coladas and Mai Tais, served alongside coconut shrimp, Hawaiian BBQ skewers, and a tropical fruit platter!

3. Pirate adventure

Pirate theme boat party.

Plan a boat party with an adventurous twist when you set sail on a Pirate Adventure. Decorate with treasure chests, rustic maps, and skull-and-crossbones. Your crew can look the part with pirate hats, bandanas, and eye patches. For a fun activity, organize a ship-wide treasure hunt.

We recommend a themed menu with dishes like Buccaneer’s BBQ ribs and “Shiver Me Timbers” Seafood Gumbo. As for drinks, offer Dark ‘n’ Stormy cocktails, made with rum and ginger beer, or mix your own Pirate’s Punch.

4. Under the sea

Under the sea theme boat party.

Dive into the depths with an Under the Sea Fantasy theme. Use shades of blue and green, with shimmering decorations to mimic the ocean’s allure. If your guests want to go all in, encourage them to wear mermaid costumes, pirate costumes, or fish-inspired looks.

Serve up “sea-themed sips”, like an Ocean Breeze, made with blue curaçao and vodka, or a Seashell Spritzer (add edible glitter for an unforgettable sparkle).

5. Gatsby glamor

Gatsby theme boat party.

Gatsby Glamor is a gateway boat party theme idea. You can step back into the roaring twenties with a Gatsby theme, or pick whatever era excites you the most (60s, 70s, 80s, and so on!)

Sticking with Gatsby: infuse your boat with the opulence of the era. We recommend gold accents, Art Deco glamor, feather centerpieces, and a champagne tower. A live jazz band can set the tone of your luxurious affair.

Taste the twenties with a menu of Oysters Rockefeller, cocktail shrimp, and Gatsby-style canapés, complimented with Champagne Cocktails and Sidecars.

6. Neon glow

Neon theme boat party.

If you’re hosting a boat party after dark, a Neon Glow theme is the perfect way to light up the night. Illuminate your boat with black lights and fluorescent decorations. Enhance the atmosphere with neon-colored cocktails, glow-in-the-dark games, and upbeat music .

We recommend taking your boat party to the next level with a professional DJ and laser light show!

7. Hawaiian luau

Hawaiian theme boat party.

A Hawaiian Luau is another classic boat party theme idea. Your guests can kick back in Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, and flower leis. Colorful flowers, tiki torches, and bamboo décor will transform your boat into an island escape.

A Tropical Breeze Cooler is the perfect signature cocktail for your Luau. Mix coconut rum (or coconut water for a non-alcoholic option) with pineapple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, and a splash of grenadine for a swirl of tropical flavors.

8. Mardi Gras madness

Mardi Gras theme boat party.

Capture the vivacious energy of New Orleans with the Mardi Gras Madness boat party theme. Bedeck your boat with traditional Mardi Gras colors (purple, green, and gold) and encourage your guests to wear masks, beads, and feathers to bring this theme alive. You can curate a festive ambiance by hiring a jazz band and serving traditional Cajun cuisine.

9. All-white party

All-white theme boat party.

For our last boat party theme idea, we recommend throwing a White Party. White parties are the perfect way to create casual elegance. Decorate your vessel with whites, creams, and soft ambient lighting. Guests should wear all white to fit the theme and create a fully immersive experience.

Top it off with a menu of white-themed drinks and dishes, like White Russians, Peach Bellinis, lobster rolls, and caprese skewers.

Table of Contents

Boat Party Themes

Boat themed accessories, boat themed food and drink, boat party games, ready for your boat theme party.

Vintage

The first thing to consider is exactly what you want you r boat-related theme to be. It’s fine to just choose a general boaty vibe! But you could also add a more specific twist.

One way to do that is by adding some vintage charm to your boat theme. Those vintage touches could be as striking or as subtle as you like.

How about decorating with nautical bunting, and adding some sweet vintage toppers to your cupcakes? Or ask your guests to dress up in clothes from the era of your choice.

2. Sailboat

Sailboat

Sailboats are surely one of the most romantic ways to travel the seas. So why not add a dash of sailboat style to your boat themed party?

A sailboat party cake will make a great centerpiece. But you could also turn your venue into a sailboat by suspending fabric “sails” from the ceiling. Sheets cleverly draped can create an instant nautical atmosphere. Adding some fairy lights will bring some magic too.

3. Love Boat

Love Boat

The Love Boat was an iconic 70s TV show that told stories of love and romance aboard cruise ships. And what better excuse to get dressed up as a 70s glamorpuss than a Love Boat themed party?!

Test your guests’ knowledge with a 70s trivia quiz while you blast out some 70s tunes. And serve up classic dishes from the era, like prawn cocktail and cheese and pineapple on sticks.

Cruise

For a fun and sophisticated event, a cruise-themed party is a great option. Decorate with marine colors like blue and white, and hang bunting from the ceiling. Add some porthole cut-outs to the walls, and you’re away!

You could even have a “captain’s table” for VIP guests.

5. Anchors Away

Anchors Away

Dotting some boat themed accessories around your venue is a great way to enhance your theme.

Oversized inflatables and other fun objects are amazingly effective at getting everyone into the party spirit. Mark our words, it won’t be long before your guests are using them to pose for pics.

This large plastic anchor is a perfect example, and would work brilliantly at any boat-themed party.

6. Nautical Cut-Outs

Nautical Cut-Outs

Nautical cut-outs are a quick, easy and inexpensive way to create your party theme . If you’re arty, you could get some cardboard and paints and make them yourself. But there are also lots of ready-made options to inject color and humor into your party.

Stick them to walls, or place them near entry points for instant nautical appeal.

7. Marine Table Covers

Marine Table Covers

If you want minimal party clear-up, wipe-clean table covers are a must. And for a boat-themed party, you want them to have a nautical look.

There are lots of great options out there that can help bring your theme to life. Look for classic motifs like boats, anchors , fish or seashells.

8. Life Preserver Centerpieces

Life Preserver Centerpieces

Centrepieces are a great way to add interest to your party tables. Simple cardboard versions are inexpensive, but can look great.

We love this one decorated with life preservers. And the foil adds some extra sparkle – perfect for when the lights go down!

9. Take The Helm

Take The Helm

Everyone can play at being captain with this inflatable boat wheel! It’s a great accessory for a nautical photo booth (more on that later). And it works just as well as a prop for imaginative play at a kids’ party.

You could even prop one on your cake table to add an extra detail to cake-cutting photos.

10. Boating Bunting

Boating Bunting

Bunting adds instant fun to any party atmosphere. And if you’re planning a boat-themed party, it’s a cheap and effective way to customize your surroundings.

Standard bunting often features on cruise ships, so pretty much any kind will work with a boat theme. But you can also find novelty versions like this colorful chain of anchors for extra pizzazz.

11. Boat Food Party Trays

Boat Food Party Trays

Party food trays are a fun and convenient way for your guests to help themselves from the buffet. And these boat-shaped versions offer a humorous addition to your nautical theme .

Two separate sections at front and back – or should that be bow and stern?! – allow guests to separate sweet from savory food. And a handy drinks holder in the center console will keep them refreshed while they mingle.

12. Nautical Balloons

Nautical Balloons

No party is complete without balloons! Go to town with a striking feature like this enormous anchor made of balloons. Or stick to simple blue and white color combinations to create a nautical atmosphere.

You can also find balloons printed with marine motifs like crabs and anchors. And when it comes to balloons, the more the merrier. Just make sure you invest in a pump to get them all inflated!

13. Anchor Floral Centerpieces

Anchor Floral Centerpieces

Floral centerprieces are a great way to add sophistication to any gathering. And with a little creativity, you can craft something that adds to your boat theme.

We love the way this mason jar has been accessorized with nautical colors and an anchor. The anchor here is embellished with initials, but you could also add a date or message.

Choose flowers in blue and white to complement the marine color scheme.

14. Boat Themed Favors

Boat Themed Favors

Party favors are an easy way to reinforce your chosen theme. And you can spend as much or as little on them as you like.

We love these sailor hats and captain’s hats. You could even have them adorned with your guests’ names or nicknames.

Or if your party is strictly for grown-ups, how about a miniature rum bottle? You could even get the date or text added to the label to commemorate your special occasion.

15. Sailboat Serving Station

Sailboat Serving Station

Turn your serving table into a dramatic focal point by transforming it into a boat! It’s surprisingly easy to do, and will work pretty much anywhere.

Here, a standard kitchen island has been turned into a sailboat with the addition of a painted cardboard panel, a sheet and some bunting. It takes a little preparation, but it’s not expensive or difficult. And it will be a real talking point for your guests.

16. Nautical Popcorn

Nautical Popcorn

Popcorn is great party food, because it can be prepared ahead of time and served at any temperature. Serve it in jaunty popcorn boxes to fit in with your party theme .

This is another case where you could make the boxes yourself if you’re feeling crafty. But if you prefer to minimize preparation time, there are lots of great ready-made options out there.

We love these smart navy and white boxes, complete with a striking red anchor on each side.

17. Sailboat Jello

Sailboat Jello

No kids’ party is complete without jello! And when it looks as good as these jello sailboats, adults will be queuing up to enjoy it too.

Here blue jello doubles as a placid lake on which an orange segment acts as a boat. Add a cocktail stick with a paper sail, and you have a very attractive dessert. It couldn’t be easier to make, yet looks impressive too.

18. Anchor Salad

Anchor Salad

The different colors of salad vegetables make them a great way to depict a scene. Here, slices of cucumber form an anchor . Contrasting carrot, celery, broccoli and peppers add color.

You could use the same approach to create pretty much any marine motif you like. How about a life preserver? A sailboat? Or even a pirate?

Just keep it simple so the picture stands out from the background.

19. Crab Croissants

Crab Croissants

Had you ever noticed how much croissants look like crabs?! Neither had we, until we saw this clever creation!

The eyes here are edible sugar eyeballs from cake decorating firm Wilton. Just secure them in place with frosting, and hey presto! Your croissants are instantly transformed into crustaceans.

And when it comes to fillings, the world is your – ahem – oyster! Choose classics like ham, cheese and salad as a savory option. Or add jam or chocolate paste for those with a sweet tooth.

20. Pepper Crab and Nachos

Pepper Crab and Nachos

Here’s another clever way to create a crab! Choose an orange pepper and slice off the bottom. Turn it upside down, so that the flat section sits on the plate. Then cut the remaining piece of pepper into slices to use as the legs.

Edible eyeballs add instant character. You could use your pepper crab as a topping for chips or nachos. Or surround it in a sea of hummus for a sea life themed vegetable chip and dip.

21. Healthy Sailboat Desserts

Healthy Sailboat Desserts

We’ve already seen that adding sailboat toppers can add nautical charm to your cupcakes. But you can perform a similar trick with healthier dessert options too. And they taste every bit as good!

These sophisticated individual desserts combine creamy Greek yogurt with blueberries and granola. You could add a drizzle of honey on top for extra sweetness. Using glass pots, as here, will allow you to see the beauty of the different layers.

Then just pop your sail on top, and you have a smart and healthy sailboat dessert.

These boat party games will make your event the best it can be, creating some fun and great memories. Fun games make people excited and want to win. And the beautiful and exquisite game prizes can make people actively participate in the process. As a boat party, you can customize enamel pins, commemorative coins or beautiful keychains as a reward. They can both fit the theme of the boat and can be kept for a long time and carried around. GS-JJ can offer you a wide range of prizes to purchase, so check them out! Order Now

22. Diving Competition

Diving Competition

All the best parties involve games. And if you’re lucky enough to own a boat, why not make the most of it with a diving competition? Just make sure you moor somewhere the water is safe and deep.

Offer prizes for the best dives. And if you have guests who prefer to spectate, get them to give the competitors marks out of 10. You could even make score cards for them to hold up.

23. Swimming Race

Swimming Race

Boats and swimming are natural companions – so why not add a swimming race to your party? Of course, this only works if you’re actually on a boat, or at a pool. But if that’s the case, this is another easy way to raise energy levels and have a laugh.

Just as with the diving competition, adding prizes will make things more interesting. They don’t have to be big or expensive. For kids, a chocolate medal will go down a treat.

24. Deck Quoits

Deck Quoits

If you’re looking for a less energetic option, how about a game of quoits? Traditionally played on the decks of boats, quoits work just as well whether your party is on water or dry land.

If you want to splash some cash (pardon the pun) you can buy a set. But it’s easy to make your own DIY version too.

Just fill some plastic bottles with sand to weigh them down. Then mark a number on the front with a sharpie. That’s the number of points you’ll get if your quoit lands over the bottle. For the quoits themselves, just tie some rope or heavy cord in a loop. You’re all set!

25. Nautical Photo Booth

Nautical Photo Booth

A nautical photo booth is a great addition to any boat themed party. And it’s surprisingly easy to set one up.

All you’ll need is a stripey piece of fabric and a tall frame to support if from. Choose colors like red and white, or navy and white, to fit the maritime theme. Then accessorize – life preservers, inflatable anchors, even toy boats will work brilliantly.

If you don’t mind a bit of mess, you could create a beach area in front. Just lay some plastic on the floor and cover it with sand.

Then let your guests loose, and enjoy the photos later!

That brings us to the end of our 25 boat theme party ideas! We hope it’s given you plenty of inspiration for your own event.

Start by deciding on exactly what your theme will be. Will it be boats in general? Or do you want to give it a twist – like a glamorous cruise themed party, or a pirate party for the kids?

Whatever you choose, there are loads of ways to bring your theme to life. Think about décor, food choices and games, and you’re sure to create a party to remember. Then just sit back, relax and enjoy it!

Top 7 Nautical themed games for a smooth sailing boat party

Unsurprisingly the nautical theme is one of the most popular party themes for charter events of all types. From birthdays to weddings, to hens, bucks and corporate charter events, we love to deck out our luxury vessels in stunning navy and white for an authentic maritime scene. A common question is if we know any nautical themed boat party games , and that we do.

Here are our top 7…….

Tie the knot

Give participants a piece of rope 1ft to 1m long and demonstrate a range of nautical knots such as a reef knot or rolling hitch. Within a time limit ask guests to tie the knots themselves. This is a nice icebreaker, so make it fun.

Best for the beach so you don’t go overboard, split guests into teams of two for a game of tug of war with heavy duty knotted rope. The team that pulls their opponents over the centre line wins!

Water toy races

If water toys or kayaks are available on your vessel, challenge the guests to some fun one-on-one championship or relay races. You can also bring your own water toys when arranged with your cruise manager.

Deck quoits

Rope quoits for a deck or beach game are a nautical party favourite. Alternatively you could host a horseshoe toss. Both are suitable for the nautical theme.

Message in a bottle

A lovely way to collect messages from guests. Whether for a hens or bucks, wedding, birthday or anniversary, ask the attendees to leave the guest/s of honour a message to be placed in a large carafe as a memento of the event.

Scavenger hunt

Guests must take amazing selfies with the items on your scavenger hunt list. Examples include “Licking a sailor hat” “ships captain” “she smells sea shells” “poke a pirate.” This game is particularly cute for a hens party.

Treasure hunt

Develop a set of clues leading to the treasure hidden somewhere on the vessel.

Nautical themed party on a luxury vessel

It’s easy to see why the nautical theme is so popular, it’s attractive and relatively inexpensive to decorate, a lot of fun for both guys and girls to dress up for, and there are plenty of on-theme games and shenanigans to be had for guest of all ages.

' src=

If you have no idea what to wear to a boat or yacht party, check out this helpful guide for the best outfit ideas and tips on dress code.

White boating outfit with a white cut-out dress a cardigan and a Loewe sun hat

If you tend to vacation around coastal towns, chances are that you will be invited to a boat party one weekend or another. Whether it’s a luxurious yacht soiree, a casual boat gathering, or a glamorous sailing affair, you’re in for a great time. But as you embark on this nautical adventure, one question looms large: What should you wear?

Dressing appropriately for such events requires a delicate balance between comfort, functionality, and, perhaps most importantly, style. With the shimmering sea as your backdrop, you want to look effortlessly chic without trying too hard. To help you navigate your boat or yacht party in style, we have curated this guide on what to wear to a boat or yacht party, ensuring you can make a grand entrance and set sail in style.

Chic Boat Party Outfits

1. linen, cotton and tencel dresses.

Image Not Found

We highly recommend wearing lightweight clothes made from natural fibers like linen, tencel and cotton for your boat or yacht day trip. All of them are highly breathable, allowing air circulation and preventing you from feeling overheated in the sun or during energetic activities onboard.

In addition to this, they have great moisture-wicking properties, which means that any sweat or water on your clothes quickly evaporates, keeping you cool and dry.

While you can opt for any colors you want, light colors are especially popular in the heat of the sun, as well as nautical colors like light blue and navy, which echo the color scheme of open waters around you.

Other Essentials To Bring To A Boat Party

1. your swimsuit.

Firstly, it’s not a boat party without swimming! Don’t forget to bring your favorite bathing suit with you.

2. Suncream

It also pays to protect your skin from the sun, so pack your sunblock in your bag. A good sunblock should be at least SPF 30, since SPF 30 can block about 97% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Make sure to reapply your suncream every 2 hours you spend in the sun for optimal protection.

3. Protective Accessories

It goes without saying, but don’t attend a boat party without a good pair of sunglasses . The sun is especially strong in the open sea as it reflects off of water, and you don’t want to spend your day squinting.

In addition to sunglasses, also consider bringing a stylish hat that protects your face and scalp. Whether you opt for a wide-brimmed hat, a floppy sun hat, a straw hat or a sporty cap, it serves as a barrier against the sun, reducing the risk of sunburn and discomfort.

4. Beach Towel

Some yachts and bigger boats will be equipped with beach towels for guests, but this is not a given. If you think you’ll be going in for a dip, pack a beach towel in your beach tote before you set off.

Now that we’ve gone over some of the best things to wear for yacht and boat parties, let’s also take a look at clothing to avoid.

What Not To Wear To A Boat Party

How you dress for a boat party is very different to what you wear on land. What looks good in a rooftop bar might not be appropriate for a yacht, so keep these things in mind when putting together your outfit:

1. High heels

Stilettos with a sharp heel are a bit of a hazard on a moving boat; not only are you less stable when wearing them, the heel itself can also get stuck in gaps or grates on the deck, which can damage your shoes.

To be on the safe side, opt for comfortable flat sandals, boat shoes, or espadrilles, or take your shoes off entirely!

If you’re attending a dressy occasion in the evening, consider wearing platform wedges that look polished but are easy to walk in.

2. Fabrics That Make You Sweat

Avoid fibers and materials like acrylic, polyester, denim, and spandex that will make you sweat, and silk, which has moisture-wicking properties, but will not hide sweat stains.

Instead, opt for breathable fibers like cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, jersey, chambray and tencel, especially if you’re attending a boat party during the daytime.

3. Skin Tight clothing (If you’re swimming)

If you know that you’ll be swimming, avoid wearing tight clothing, as there’s nothing more uncomfortable than having to put your tight clothes back on when you have wet skin. Also, what looks good dry might not look as great when it’s all soaked in water and sticking to your skin.

Opt for clothes that are loose enough that they won’t cling to you and that allow the wind’s breeze to flow through them. Alternatively, you can always bring a change of clothes if you have a tight outfit that you definitely want to wear on your boat ride.

4 Popular Yacht Themed Party Ideas

Nothing says Halloween more than people dressing up in all different kinds of costumes and having a great time. As the Halloween season comes around the corner, you may consider hosting a themed party on your private yacht or charter. Themed parties are popular among charter guests. They create memorable experiences for both guests and crew members while they are out on the water or docked at a marina.

Not only do guests get to dress up, the captain and crew also get to take off their uniforms and put on fun yacht themed party attire. Your yacht is decked out in theme-appropriate decorations and the delicious menu can also follow the theme. There plenty of boat cruise theme ideas out there, but if you're craving something classic, consider these popular yacht themed party ideas.

Image 0526:

Ahoy! It's all hands on deck for a pirate-themed party. There probably isn't a more well-suited theme for a party on a yacht than pirates. They too were seafarers, navigating the seas in search of treasure. While gold coins may not be the booty your guests are seeking, they'll want an exciting experience which a pirate-themed party is perfectly apt to provide.

What You'll Need: Stock up on pirate shirts, baggy pants, boots, pirate hats, plastic swords, stuffed toy parrots, and an eye patch or two. If you are going to decorate with skull and bones flags (also known as the Jolly Roger), avoid flying it on the flag post because it goes against flag etiquette, and may be illegal in some countries. And finally, where's the rum? Whether you go light or dark, rum should be the main ingredient in the night's cocktails. A Dark 'N' Stormy is sure to please!

Image 0524:

Yeehaw! Be inspired by the rodeo and Wild West when hosting a cowboy-themed party. While a yacht in the Caribbean or the Med is probably the farthest thing away from the ranch, cowboy parties are always a crowd-pleaser. Dancing to country crooners while sipping mint juleps is a lovely way to spend a night. Take your yacht to the old town road, at least symbolically, and say howdy to satisfied guests.

What You'll Need: The dress code includes cowboy hats, blue jeans, checkered shirts, leather belts, bandanas, and cowboy boots. Lassos, wagon wheels, and cacti make up the décor. Finally, Tennessee whiskey is the liquor of choice. An Old Fashioned or a Whiskey Sour is sure to keep guests refreshed.

The 60s & 70s

It's always a good time for flower power! Go retro with a party inspired by the '60s or '70s. Whichever time period you choose, guests are sure to have fun dancing to rock 'n' roll classics or disco hits. Let guests party like madmen while dressed in bright psychedelic colors and munching on deviled eggs. Color, great music, and a hint of nostalgia make these types of parties popular with the yachting crowd. Whether the playlist features the Beatles or ABBA, partygoers will surely enjoy the experience.

What You'll Need: The essential 60's costume features striped polo shirts, casual slacks, colorful shift dresses, white go-go boots, and gravity-defying bouffant hairstyles. For the '70s, transform into a peace-loving hippie or a dancing queen - bell-bottoms, tie-dye, shiny jumpsuits, flower crowns, loose hair, and platform heels. As for the drinks, a bar cart offering Sidecars, Pink Ladies, Tequila Sunrises, and jelly shots is sure to be a hit!

Image 0525:

The name is Bond, James Bond. Yachting and the James Bond franchise go hand-in-hand. Both exemplify luxury, world-class style, international travel, and maybe even a pinch of danger. Plenty of the best yacht charter destinations have been featured in the films and 007 has been known to board a luxury vessel here and there. It's no surprise that James Bond themed parties are sought after by many charter guests.

What You'll Need: James Bond parties are fancier than your typical yacht themed parties. Guys should whip out their tuxedos and bow ties, and ladies should slip on elegant evening dresses. The key to becoming a Bond Girl is sensuality. Tables for poker and blackjack should be set up. And for the final touch, don't forget a Martini - shaken, not stirred.
