Newport Bay Club Review

Newport Bay Club is a deluxe hotel at Disneyland Paris, with a nautical theme very reminiscent of Disney’s Yacht & Club Resorts. This review features room photos, thoughts on its quality, and our experience of staying at the hotel.

Recently, the resort underwent a massive, top to bottom refurbishment that lasted multiple years and renovated every single guest room, restaurant, shop, and even the convention center. Prior to that refurbishment, Newport Bay Club was in rough shape. I have photos showing the visibly dilapidated siding as well as the rough-looking lounge.

We’ve visited Newport Bay Club since the overhaul finished, and noticed a night and day difference in the common areas and exterior. The hotel looked brand new, and we were eager to book a room. We’ve been pricing it out for the last couple of years, but costs have always been prohibitive. We finally found a <$200/night rate via hotels.com, and decided to jump on it at that price…

For starters, we consider that price to be excellent (and rare) for Newport Bay Club. While it’s not quite Yacht & Beach Club caliber, it is considered a 4-star hotel. It’s also within walking distance of both Disneyland Paris theme parks, which is a big plus.

Our past couple of trips we’ve stayed in Val d’Europe because on-site Disneyland Paris hotels were too expensive. While that remained true this trip when pricing our stay out through the official Disneyland Paris website, we noticed hotels.com had this, Hotel Cheyenne, and Disneyland Hotel all significantly cheaper. Something to take a look at if you’re planning your trip to France.

We weren’t kidding when we said Newport Bay Club is reminiscent of Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. All three hotels were designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, and styled after classic New England beach cottage architecture. The exterior at Newport Bay Club uses a lighter, warmer color palette, but all have clapboard styling. Squint while looking at Newport Bay Club and you might think you’re at Crescent Lake.

With 1,093 guest rooms, Newport Bay Club is the largest hotel at Disneyland Paris. At the time of its opening it had more rooms than any other hotel not just in France, but in all of Western Europe. We’re not sure where it ranks today, but suffice to say, it’s a big hotel and still one of the largest in France.

Nevertheless, with all of the guest rooms located in a single building and wings from the main lobby, its size feels manageable. You might have a moderately long walk to your room, but not as long as what you could encounter at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne or Hotel Santa Fe.

In terms of basic info, Newport Bay Club is located across Lake Disney from Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park, across from Hotel New York ( which we review here ) and next to Sequoia Lodge ( which we review here ). At just under 15 minutes, it’s a slightly longer walk to the parks than Hotel New York, but roughly the same distance as Sequoia Lodge.

In terms of amenities, the top draw is always the pools. Newport Bay Club has two main pools: a cool indoor pool with a large boat at one end and an outdoor pool that’s fairly nondescript. Unfortunately, we didn’t pack swimsuits and I wasn’t quite brazen enough to take photos with people swimming in it. I’ll do the creepy blogger thing in the U.S., but France is another story. Suffice to say, I liked the indoor pool; it’s large and well-themed.

Next up is dining. Newport Bay Club has two main restaurants: Cape Cod and Yacht Club. The former is the hotel’s buffet restaurant for guests who purchase the half-board and full-board dining plans. We’ve done this before at other Disneyland Paris hotels, but our stay this time was room-only.

Yacht Club is the resort’s fine dining restaurant, and we had heard multiple positive reports about its new menu since the refurbishment, so we were really looking forward to dining here. Unfortunately, it was closed during our stay. Per the Disneyland Paris website: “as part of our continuing efforts to exceed the expectations of our Guests, this restaurant is closed today.”

I’m not sure how closing a restaurant helps exceed expectations, but whatever. Our stay at Newport Bay Club was during the off-season, and most of the in-park restaurants at Disneyland Paris were also closed. That was more frustrating, but it’s another story for another post.

Finally, there’s Captain’s Quarters, the resort’s lounge. Per Disneyland Paris, it’s a “nautical themed bar for an aperitif served amid the elegant world of regattas and racing yachts.” We’ve done late night meals here before after the parks have closed, and found it to be hit or miss. For food, overpriced and undersized portions. This trip, we stuck to Five Guys and Earl of Sandwich for our late night meals instead–zero regrets there.

Now, let’s take a look at the guest rooms at Disney’s Newport Bay Club…

Our first impressions upon entering our room at Disney’s Newport Bay Club were positive. The decor strongly resembles the inside of a ship’s cabin, the furniture is reminiscent of traveling trunks, and the color scheme has a nautical vibe. In in all, it feels a lot like cabins in which we’ve stayed aboard Disney Cruise Line, except more spacious.

Initially, we are both impressed. This wore off a bit as we started perusing the room saw very noticeable wear and tear. Corners that are dinged up, wallpaper that is peeling off the wall above one of the bed (very much visible in these photos), the handrail partially ripped off the bathtub wall.

With minor wear and tear, we’re usually pretty deferential to hotels. Things can be missed during room inspections and not everything is immediately repaired.

However, both the peeling wallpaper and handrail would be readily apparent to anyone who takes a cursory 30 second tour of the room. Given Disneyland Paris’ past issues with maintenance and upkeep, we’re inclined to believe these are known issues–and probably not unique to our room–that management has made a conscious decision not to repair.

Probably a matter of “user error” but it confounds me that European hotels don’t have full doors on their showers. This is hardly isolated to Disneyland Paris hotels, but how do people bathe without getting water all over the floor?

Perhaps I’m just really bad at showering. (In which case, you might be wondering whether you can really trust the opinion of someone who can’t properly complete such a basic task.)

In terms of positives, the beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable, the desk was nice, and we really liked the scent of the H20 shampoo (random… but valuable info!). Setting aside the maintenance issues, the room felt appropriately-themed and distinctly Disney.

Some touches–like the portholes on the wallpaper–might feel a bit cheesy for a luxury hotel that caters to convention guests, but they were fun. Even with all of my complaints, I really liked the room. For my tastes, it had the right balance of theme and luxury.

Our final verdict with Disney’s Newport Bay Club Resort is a tough one. The story here is one that mirrors that of the parks at Disneyland Paris: good design, poor upkeep. We were quite pleased to see the Imagineering decisions made during the top to bottom refurbishment retained the resort’s style, and balanced modern furnishings with theme very well. We were disappointed to see that only 2 years later, upkeep has fallen back into its old ways. Then again, perhaps we just got unlucky with the room. Ultimately, Sequoia Lodge remains my personal favorite among the Disneyland Paris hotels, but we’d stay at Newport Bay Club again if the price is right because we do love the design and location.

Curious about outlets in the room. Where there usb outlets available and plentiful?

Thanks for the great write up, interesting reading. Having just stayed at Sequoia Lodge we were incredibly disappointed, it was very outdated and not very well looked after, but I believe they are renovating some of it now. My biggest issues is with the lack of power outlets and that in this day and age where you are on your phone looking at queue times and booking ride passes (if that’s something you want to do) there are no USB outlets in the rooms! Charging your mobile phone was no easy thing! Having stayed over the years in several of the Disneyland Paris hotels for the price they are a let down in my opinion.

We felt similar about Sequoia Lodge when we stayed there – the accommodations were decent and the themeing is fun, but there was a lot of wear and tear. With some upkeep these resorts could be truly awesome.

Tom, if you ever write a semi-autobiographical novel about a young American’s travels through Europe, please promise me the opening line will be “Perhaps I’m just really bad at showering.”

After checking into our room at the Newport Bay Club in January, a maintenance/housekeeping cast member knocked at our door and asked if there had been anything left behind in the room. There was a bit of a language barrier and we couldn’t quite understand what he was looking for. A few hours later we noticed a large brassiere that did not belong to us. So you never know just what goes unnoticed by the cast members at the Newport Bay Club.

We stayed at Newport Bay Club on our trip to DLP in 2016. We loved it, very fresh, clean, and new! I will say, I love how breakfast was included with our hotel stay. I can only wish WDW would do that too (*sarcastic laugh*).

And we totally agree with eating at Earl of Sandwich and Five Guys at DLP!

You no longer get breakfast included in your hotel stay in Disneyland Paris… It was discontinued in 2017… 🙁

I was told it has restarted. Looking at a package for March 2020 & I was told it was included (the breakfast buffet at your hotel)

I’m curious about your comment about closed restaurants in the off-season at DLP. I was there for my first time on the coldest day of the winter this last March, and there were no outdoor food carts open, and some additional places were closed, too, but I assumed it was because it was (literally) 17 degrees out. But is this a normal occurrence in the DLP off-season?

There’s no guarantee, as it will depend on where your room is, and certain weather may impact the visibility, but if you’re having an early night back at the hotel it’s always worth having a peek out the window to see if you can spot them! 

Of course, we’d always recommend watching Disney Dreams from within Disneyland Park as well, so you can experience the full effect of the projections, fountains and music!

What better way to immerse yourself in the maritime theming of Disney Newport Bay Club than with a dip in the water? Among the many hotel options near Disneyland Paris, there are several Disney Hotels that are on property and within a short walk away from the park entrance. One of the closest is Disney Newport Bay Club , a 4 star property that is a 15 minute walk, or 8 minute free shuttle ride, from Disneyland Park. During our first family trip to Disneyland Paris , we stayed at the Disney Newport Bay Club and chose to upgrade to Compass Club level for the additional benefits. Disney Hotels & Resorts at Disneyland Paris

There are seven Disney hotels at Disneyland Paris. The closest hotel to the theme parks is the Disneyland Hotel, the luxury 5-star Disney hotel located at the entrance of Disneyland Park, which re-opened in late January after renovation work. The next two closest Disney hotels to the park entrance are the Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel and Newport Bay Club, both located on Lake Disney and a short walking distance to the restaurants and shops at Disney Village.

Newport Bay Club Disneyland Paris Review

Each of the Disney hotels at Disneyland Paris depict a region of the United States, and as is the case with Disney hotels at all parks, the theming design and details are brilliant and well thought out. Disney’s Newport Bay Club, located on the shores of Lake Disney, is based on the design of grand 1920s New England coastal mansions and features a charming nautical, yacht club theme.

The Newport Bay Club was completely renovated as of Spring 2016 and is a 4-star rated hotel with just under 1100 rooms. The hotel features indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, a sauna and steam bath, a full-service fitness centre and a boutique store.

Each Disney Hotel offers their guests unique opportunities to meet characters, and for the Newport Bay Club, it’s Mickey and Minnie taking turns in their nautical gear. Check with reception for the next character meet and greets located in the hotel lobby.

Free self parking is available at the large car park in front of the hotel. Newport Bay Club has a free shuttle service that takes guests to and from Disneyland Paris about every 15 minutes. This was very helpful during our visit since it was raining most of the time for the first two days.

Hotel Restaurants

There are two restaurants and one bar at the Newport Bay Club: Cape Cod, the Yacht Club and Captain’s Quarters.

Cape Cod is all-you-can-eat restaurant offering breakfast and dinner. The dinner buffet is mostly seafood specialities with a selection of salad and dessert. The buffet costs €45 for adults (drinks not included) and €25 for children, with water, juice or milk included. View the menu

The Yacht Club is a restaurant serving dishes inspired by “New England with Mediterranean influences”, with a variety of grilled dishes – fish or steak, a Surf and Turf dish – beef fillet and lobster tail and several seafood specialities such as New England clam chowder and Yacht Club mussels. Prices for main courses on the à la carte menu range from €32 for seafood linguine to €43 for rib-eye steak with pan-sauteéd vegetables.

Menu plan prices are €55 for adults (or €75 with wine included) for starter, main course and dessert. Kids menu costs €30 for starter, main, dessert and drink, with main course options that include chicken piccata, roast cod fillet and linguine with vegetables and red pesto.  View the menu

Captain’s Quarters is an elegant nautical themed bar at the Newport Bay Club.

We didn’t have a chance to experience the hotel restaurants or bar during our stay. Our only meal at the Newport Bay Club was the breakfast buffet at the Compass Club lounge, which I’ve shared more about towards the end of this review.

Superior Rooms

In the next part of this Newport Bay Club Disneyland Paris review, I will go over the several types of rooms and suites available to choose from when booking a stay at Disney Newport Bay Club . Standard room amenities across all rooms and suites include: luggage service, hair dryer, free WiFi access, air conditioning, telephone, safety deposit box, radio, Disney and international TV channels.

You can request a free baby cot, which are limited to 1 per room and subject to availability. Kettles are also available upon request.

Superior Rooms are the standard room offering and costs vary depending on the following options;

• Standard Room [up to 2 people] with 1 double bed
• Standard Room [up to 4 people] with 2 double beds, with or without lake view
• Standard Room [up to 4 people] with 2 double beds, with a terrace and lake view
• Family Room [up to 5 people] with 2 double beds and one sofa bed, with or without lake view

Compass Club Rooms and Suites

Compass Club Rooms and Suites at the Newport Bay Club Disneyland Paris include all the Superior Room amenities and in addition bath robes and slippers are also available upon request. Guests staying in Compass Club rooms and suites receive additional Club level benefits, which I will go into more detail in the next section. Compass Club rooms and suites are on the top floors of the central part of the building, and there are several options for more spacious accommodations;

• Family Room [up to 6 people] with 2 double beds and 2 sofa beds
• Executive Suite [up to 4 people] with 1 large living room with sofa bed and 1 large double bed, located garden side with additional services
• Resort Suite [up to 4 people] with 1 living room with sofa bed and an alcove bedroom with 1 large double bed, lake view with additional services
• Compass Club Suite [up to 4 people] with 1 large double bed and 1 sofa bed, spacious bathroom, located in the tower with additional services
• Vice-Presidential Suite [up to 4 people] with 1 large double bed and 1 sofa bed, 69m2 suite with open space living room with dining area, lake view and additional services
• Presidential Suite [up to 6 people]  to with 1 large living room with sofa bed, alcove with one double bed and a separate room with a large double bed, up to 83m2 space with lake view and additional services

We stayed in a Compass Club room with two double beds that overlooked the lawn in front of the hotel. It was a comfortable room, just right for our family of four for a long weekend at Disneyland Paris . We spent most of the days and evenings during our stay at the Parks, so to be honest it wasn’t worth it for us to upgrade to a lake view room, but it is something we would consider for a longer stay as the lake views do look amazing!

Compass Club Reception

Four of the Disney hotels at Disneyland Paris offer Club level rooms with breakfast included and additional VIP benefits. The Disney hotels with Club rooms and suites are Disney Hotel New York – the Art of Marvel (Empire State Club), Disney Sequoia Lodge (Golden Forest Room), Disney Newport Bay Club (Compass Club) and the Disneyland Hotel (Castle Club).

Private reception desk and luggage service – Compass Club guests have an easy check-in process at a private reception desk with a seating area for your group. I found this to be helpful since the queue at the main check-in counter was very long when we arrived and there was hardly any wait to check in at the Compass Club desk.

Both check-in and check-out were quick and easy processes during our visit.

Compass Club Lounge

Access to the Club Lounge –  Private breakfast, drinks and afternoon snacks in the Compass Club lounge are included in the rate. An American buffet breakfast (see images below) is open from 7am to 11am. Tea and espresso coffee are available during the day. Compass Club guests can also stop by the lounge to enjoy a variety of sweet and savoury snacks from 4pm to 5.30pm.

The Compass Club Lounge is a great place to relax. In addition to the main dining area, there’s a lounge seating area with a TV.

We enjoyed the buffet breakfast at the Disneyland Paris Newport Bay Club Compass Club. There were a variety of hot and cold dishes available, including crepes and waffles, scrambled eggs and bacon, pastries and continental breakfast items.

Hotel Facilities

Facilities at the Disney Newport Bay Club include indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, a sauna and steam bath and a full-service fitness centre. The Nantucket Pool is the hotel’s indoor and outdoor pool areas, open from 7am to 10pm (subject to seasonal modification).

Newport Bay Club also has a nautical themed shop, the Bay Boutique, offering several lines unique to the hotel.

We wanted to stay at a Disney Hotel for our first visit to Disneyland Paris. Disney Newport Bay Club was an excellent option for its proximity to the park entrance and the additional benefits such as free self parking and Extra Magic Hours that come with staying at an on property Disney Hotel. Disney Newport Bay Club is only a 15 minute walk away from the parks, but there is the convenient option of a free shuttle ride if, like for us, it’s raining for most of your visit.

We also found the upgrade to Compass Club level worth it for the quick and easy check-in procedure and the access to the Compass Club Lounge for breakfast and afternoon snacks.

Review: Disney’s Newport Bay Club

This review is about a hotel stay from May 12, 2016 until May 14, 2016 (Last Updated: August 21, 2017)

Disney’s Newport Bay Club recently renovated its property in 2016 with a complete head-to-toe clean-up. As with most of the hotels on the property, there has been little upkeep on the typical wear and tear that happens after so many years. This was a major project considering the hotel holds over 1000 rooms in addition to their large convention center space. Post-renovation has now categorized the hotel as a 4-star resort based on the French hotel rating.

The hotel is situated at Lake Disney across the lake from Hotel New York. Considered the farthest hotel to the park, it’s only a 15-minute walk through Disney Village. We have stayed twice post-renovation and can say that it really is a nice property. The hotel is based on the turn of the 19th century New England beach homes. The style is on point and you really feel transported to Cape Cod with the nautical blues, clean white and rich, bright reds throughout the hotel.

We booked a standard room on both trips here. And what can we say but, wow . The design they executed in the rooms is wonderful. Every little detail has a little Disney magic in it. It’s nautical throughout and even though the bathroom hasn’t changed much, the light blue lightens up the room so it flows together. The luggage storage area is always a bit strange at the resort and we’ve never found it very practical. Unfortunately, there is still no refrigerator which most US visitors would expect.

Amenities and Recreation

The hotel is well known for its large indoor pool, fit with a large replica boat to explore. Our first experience we were denied at the door due to inclement weather, but we were able to go back and briefly visit. The large indoor pool is nice and very large. The indoor is connected through a little swim-through passageway to an equally large outdoor swimming pool. We were quite happy with the pool area. Considering the weather is not always great in Paris, we were blessed with some warm weather and felt like we were at Disney World just chilling poolside.

We noticed many people go for a morning run around Lake Disney. It’s a very quiet a serene area to run. We even did a run in the morning ourselves (we wanted to get in shape for runDisney). Although we thought we had to go through security (either side of the balloon), the guards just had us pass without checking us. This was the case for many other runners as well. This might be a standard thing or not, just be prepared.

Dining at Disney’s Newport Bay Club

We absolutely love Yacht Club. It’s a treat to find a quiet fine dining restaurant that has a really good menu and we find this place to be one of the top choices in Paris. Having said that, we had booked this restaurant and on the night we went we had a surprise; they changed it to a buffet! According to CMs, we spoke to, if it is a busy week at the hotel then the adjacent Cape Cod buffet restaurant opens the Yacht Club (on nights they don’t normally open) as their second location. So we had a surprise of eating buffet style. Minus the disappointment, we enjoyed the seafaring buffet.

Breakfast is also served at the Cape Cod Restaurant in the morning. You can select breakfast times when you check-in for the duration of your stay. The breakfast has a few more options than the value hotels. There are warm pancakes, cold meats, cereal, and plenty of carbs for the day. Collecting your food can be a challenge as the layout is not practical but the setting is fairly calm and pleasant before having to deal with the rush of the park.

The Captain’s Quarters is the all-day lounge where you can purchase some snacks and sandwiches or enjoy an evening drink. Service has been both good and bad. The bad mainly being ignored by the waiters but when they did take our orders they are always pleasant. Nonetheless, the menu and drinks have always been top-notch and the decor lives up to the name.

Final Thoughts

Overall we love the hotel and we find the rooms as a staple Disney-themed room that you would see at other properties. The only minor disappointment we had with the room is more the servicing of it. The consistency is lacking and not only at this hotel but the other two at Lake Disney as well. You are to receive toiletries but we have had many times only one bottle of shampoo and nothing else and other times where they stock everything. For a refreshed new property, we definitely suggest this resort if you want to be at Lake Disney.

For a Disneyland location it doesn't get more bucolic, on the shore of Lake Disney with lighthouse and hot air-balloon view. Count 15 minutes' walk to the parks' entrance and Marne la Vallée-Chessy TGV and RER station where the Eurostar and trains to/from central Paris (40 minutes) stop. Magic Shuttle buses for the hour-long trip to Paris Orly airport (adults €24/£21) use Chessy Nord bus station opposite.

Style and Character

Winding along the lakeshore to this cruise ship of a residence is a welcome antidote to Mickey megalomania. On sunny days the hotel’s shimmering, buttermilk-blue reflection in the water evokes a Loire Valley chateau. Grandiose interiors mix nautical features with ocean-blue hues and antique maps, paintings and New World discovery memorabilia. Service and Facilities

Despite the army of cast members, there appears to be a constant queue to check-in – unless you're part of the Compass Club, in which case you’ll be whisked away for a swift, personalised bienvenue. All guests can use the luggage room and access the Nantucket Health Club with indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, steam room, hot tub and gym. 

As is the case at all seven Disney resort hotels, guests get to meet Disney characters in the hotel and can enter Disneyland Park an hour earlier than regular ticket holders.

With 1,093 rooms, this is the largest Disney resort hotel. Depending on the position of your room, carpeted corridors feel impossibly long after a day in the parks. Goofy and Donald Duck peep through wallpapered ‘port holes’ in blue-and-gold rooms, and faux-wooden furniture gets its cue from the trunks yesteryear ship passengers brought aboard for months at sea. Wi-Fi can be patchy, but then again, rooms here are intended to inspire disconnect from hectic life on dry land.

Complimentary mineral water, coffee machine and disposable paper cups provide a touch of home. Bathrooms, with slippers and robe twinset, sport bathtub with hook shower and Disney-branded amenities.

Food and Drink

Old-timer tunes jazz up breakfast, a huge self-service buffet in Cape Cod Restaurant. Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles in chocolate sauce, a machine popping out American pancakes and a centrepiece display of mini viennoiseries are highlights. All the prerequisites of a full English breakfast, including baked beans, satisfy brunch cravings.

Evening dining is a buffet à volonté (all-you-can-eat) of casual, family-friendly international fare in Cape Cod (adult/child €45/25 or £39/21.50) or more sophisticated North American-Mediterranean dishes in the Yacht Club (adult/child menu €55/30 or £47.50/26). Curried mussels evoke Marco Polo’s journey along the Spice Route and New England clam chowder – an old-world sailor favourite – travels tastebuds to 17th-century Boston. With central chandelier, antique model sailing yachts and bay windows overlooking Lake Disney, the Captain’s Quarters Bar is a lovely spot for afternoon tea and after-dark cocktails.

Value for Money

Rooms from £140 per person, including two-day access to Disney parks. The breakfast buffet is excluded and costs £25 per adult and £21 per child.

Cape Cod Restaurant opens early at 6pm. The Little Captain's Corner entertain younger children with Disney films, arts and crafts activities. For those a little older, a QR code at the concierge desk unlocks a hotel treasure hunt. Housekeeping has baby cots, bottle warmers and extra sheets.

Disney Cracks Down on Resort Hotels After Widespread Infestations Wreak Havoc

A certain Disney resort is cracking down on pesky insects.

Disneyland Paris is reportedly continuing its crackdown on bed bugs. The resort is currently looking to contract individuals who can not only eliminate infestations but detect and prevent them entirely before they are even spotted inside hotel rooms.

Located in Marne-la-Vallée, France, Disneyland Paris is one of several international Disney resorts, bringing the fun and magic of Disney’s theme parks to European guests. The resort continues to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, with millions of guests visiting Disneyland Paris every year.

Due to this high number of guests visiting, many of whom are international, Disneyland Paris Resort hotels are prime real estate for bed bugs. However, the resort, along with surrounding hotels, has made great efforts to put an end to infestations, with Disneyland Paris now reportedly looking to hire a prevention team this Fall.

Disneyland Paris Begins Bed Bug Crackdown

According to  Disneyphile , Disneyland Paris is currently recruiting a “bed bug detector dog handler.” Disneyland Paris is essentially looking for handlers who work with dogs and specialize in the detection of bed bugs.

Not only would this allow Disneyland Paris to crack down on bed bugs, but it would theoretically eliminate infestations before they got out of hand.

The job listing was published on August 19, 2024, with the search still ongoing. A brief expert reads as follows:

Within the Pest Control pole, and as part of the personal and property safety missions, you lead the search for your dog in all places likely to host bed bugs. You contribute to the healthiness of the rooms and common areas of Disneyland Paris and carry out preventive controls, respecting the Five Keys: Safety, Courtesy, Inclusion, Entertainment and Efficiency.

Other hotel establishments near Disneyland Paris have seen bed bugs, specifically the Ibis Val-d’Europe and the Aparthotel Adagio Serris Val d’Europe.

Last year, Île-de-France was reportedly hit hard by a large invasion of bed bugs. Pest control visits surged by 65% last year, according to France’s Union Chamber of Insect Control, and as new cases are detected in France, companies continue to try and intervene.

The cost of dealing with bedbugs is significant, with French households spending an estimated $950 to eliminate the pests.

“When we detected bedbugs, it was terrifying,” said Max Malka, who manages a hotel on Paris’s southern outskirts.

Much like the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, guests visiting Disneyland Paris have several options when it comes to picking a hotel. There’s a ton of magic at both of Disneyland Paris’ theme parks, but it doesn’t have to stop when guests return to their rooms for the day or night.

These selections include the iconic Disneyland Hotel, as well as Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, Disney Newport Bay Club, Disney Hotel Cheyenne, Disney Sequoia Lodge, Disney Hotel Santa Fe, and Disney Davy Crockett Ranch.

The Disneyland Hotel opened in 1992 alongside the Disneyland Paris Resort, which at the time was called the Euro Disney Resort. The resort has undergone significant changes over the last several decades, most notably in 2002, when it welcomed its second theme park, Walt Disney Studios.

Disneyland Paris is still undergoing changes, with widespread refurbishments, overhauls, and upgrades happening in practically every nook and cranny of the resort.

In 2026, the resort will welcome World of Frozen, a massive new expansion coming to Walt Disney Studios Park. With the grand opening of World of Frozen, this park will be renamed Disney Adventure World.

West Coast Clubs Travel East to the New York Yacht Club Resolute Cup

A recent press release from the New York Yacht Club highlighted Bay Area racer Daniel Thielman and his crew from the Corinthian Yacht Club as a new invitee to compete in the annual New York Yacht Club Resolute Cup. This year, 28 teams have been invited to this all-amateur sailing event, including seven from the West Coast: California Yacht Club, Corinthian YC of San Francisco, Newport Harbor Yacht Club, San Diego Yacht Club, Seattle Yacht Club, St. Francis Yacht Club, and San Francisco Yacht Club.

Beyond Thielman’s active campaigning of his Melges 32 Kuai on the Bay, he’s also been active nationally, winning multiple championships in the Melges 20 class, where he’s also the defending world champion. He recently returned to the Corinthian Yacht Club of San Francisco with the IC37 National Championship title won during New York Yacht Club Race Week at Newport, RI, sailed July 17–20. This September, however, will mark the first time that his club has fielded a team in the Resolute Cup, motivated by Thielman’s desire to qualify for the prestigious Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, which will next take place in September 2025.

“Members of our Corinthian Yacht Club purchased an IC37 back in 2023 to prepare for the Invitational Cup,” said Thielman. “After a year of preparation, we’ve assembled a team that is ready to make a qualifying bid.”

Thielman will be sailing with trimmers Jen Canestra and Auric Horneman, who have been his constant and trusted teammates for over 10 years of racing Melges boats together, and Nick Voss.

“We currently race in the Melges 20, Melges 14, and IC37 one-design fleets around the country, and PHRF race our Melges 32 on San Francisco Bay,” Thielman says. “We hope that adding Nick as a tactician for the Resolute Cup, with his many years of junior, college and adult team racing experience, will give us the edge we need to be competitive.”

Since 2010, the Resolute Cup has served as a Corinthian championship for US yacht clubs and the only guaranteed pathway for an American club to earn a berth in the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, Corinthian (amateur) sailing’s most prestigious international competition. The seventh edition of the biennial competition — the event was not sailed in 2020 — is scheduled for September 9 to 14 at the New York Yacht Club, Harbour Court, in Newport, RI. The 2024 Resolute Cup will utilize the Club’s fleet of Sonars, with provided sails, equalized rig tune and on-the-water umpiring ensuring sailing’s ultimate level playing field. The 2024 New York Yacht Club Regatta Association regatta calendar is supported by Helly Hansen, Hammetts Hotel, Safe Harbor Marinas and Peters & May.

While Thielman has shown remarkable ability across multiple one-design classes, the Sonar, a displacement boat with a symmetric spinnaker, is a bit of a departure from what he and his team normally sail.

“Every boat we own, and every fleet we compete in, has asymmetric kites,” he says. “We have gotten in limited practices on J/22s to prepare, but with our aggressive championship race schedule in other fleets, we are mostly going to be winging it with a symmetric kite. I would not be surprised if we have a slow start, with results that steadily improve throughout the week.”

The Jungle Cruise will be closed through Thursday, Oct. 17, reopening to guests on Friday, Oct. 18. Just in time for the holiday season!

Why is Jungle Cruise closed at Disney World in Orlando?

The exact reasons for the refurbishment has not been released. WDW Magic previously shared that several permits were filed for the attraction, including one with contractor Underwater Engineering Services Inc. Many speculate that this will be just routine maintenance instead of replacing any show elements.

In its official description , Disney World states that the ride takes guests on a 10 minute scenic and comedic boat tour across Asia, Africa and South America. The ride was one of the premier attractions when Magic Kingdom first opened in 1971.

Theme park blog All Ears shares that early versions of the Jungle Cruise in Disneyland were done without jokes and were based on Disney's True Life Adventure Series. In the 1960s, animator Marc Davis was sought out by Walt Disney to “plus up” some of the attractions. 

Davis worked on the Jungle Cruise and liven up the attraction by adding comical safari sequences, which influenced the ride’s skipper narration to what we know today.

For those who already have a trip to Disney's Magic Kingdom set for fall 2024, you can still get your Jungle Cruise fix.

Disney turned its iconic rides into a movie in 2021, joining the ranks of "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Haunted Mansion" and "Tower of Terror."

Set in 1917 during World War I , USA TODAY wrote that the Jungle Cruise movie stars Emily Blunt as Lily Houghton, a British botanist in search of a legendary ancient tree that has petals with amazing healing properties and the potential to change medicine forever. She needs a way to get to it, though, and she heads down to South America where she meets Frank Wolff (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), a financially strapped riverboat captain who gives tourists jungle rides chock full of groan-worthy jokes and the occasional factoid.

Lily hires Frank and set sail in his dilapidated vessel to find their treasure, dealing with pesky natives, rocky waterfalls and other various obstacles on the way. 

The movie also stars Jesse Plemons, Edgar Ramírez and Jack Whitehall.

What other ride, attraction closures are at Disney World resorts in Orlando?

Parkgoers saw the return of Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom earlier this month with one of its scenes getting a major makeover. After the " Never Land Tribe scene " was called out for years for its “caricatures” of native people, officials have removed the stereotypical depictions.

“We consider ourselves constant learners and as we identify ways that can make our attractions and experiences more authentic and relatable, and our stories connect more deeply to our guests, we make thoughtful changes,” Officials said in a statement.

As of Aug. 27, here are the refurbishment closures announced for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida:

• Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool , Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort - TBA

Attractions Announced for 2024 Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom Extended Evening Hours

W alt Disney World has announced the full list of attractions that will be available during extended evening hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom this fall.

Extended evening hours are offered on select dates for guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort, or other select hotels. The extended Disney’s Hollywood Studios hours and Disney’s Animal Kingdom hours replace those at Magic Kingdom, which instead offers Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in the fall and winter.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Extended Evening Hours

Extended evening hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Dates announced so far include September 25, October 2, and October 16. The following attractions will be open.
