Royal Huisman were set the task of creating a yacht that would employ ground breaking computer systems capable of controlling everything from the “actual navigation” to “mood lighting.” Royal Huisman also have a large in-house team of craftsmen who ensured that materials used were not just aesthetically pleasing, but also in keeping with the main structure of the yacht and would ensure a peaceful stay on board.

Despite the overall high tech approach, the spectacular interior designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder demonstrates exquisite inlaid marquetry and Moroccan marble. The interior loses none of its appeal and it really is a case of “the more you look, the more you discover.” The guest’s suites and owner’s stateroom lie aft and are accessed by a beautifully detailed stairway and an elegant corridor featuring sculptures and fine art. The custom made fixtures and fittings will please even the most discerning eye.

Hyperion is a superyacht built by renowned Dutch yard Royal Huisman in 1998. She most recently underwent a refit in 2020 to bring her fully up to modern standards.

Accommodation

 Hyperion accommodates up to 6 guest in three spacious cabins, each which provide ultimate comfort and privacy. The master includes a luxurious office area, a relaxation area and an opulent marble bathroom, while the double and twin cabins each feature en suite bathrooms. All of the guest accommodations boast beautiful and ornate woodwork, lush fabrics, ample storage and state-of-the-art entertainment systems.

When launched in 1998, the Hyperion held the record for the tallest single rig.

At 47.42m, she offers more than ample space for six guests across three comfortable cabins and eight highly professional crew. Hyperion boasts a huge foredeck with sunbeds and this is a versatile, convertible space that provides the ideal party spot by night and yoga shala for early morning sunrise sessions.

A stylish and elegant refit in 2015 has created a homely and cosy interior, which is perfect for kicking back as you skim through the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean or the Caribbean at a comfortable cruising speed of 10 knots.

With air conditioning, WiFi, and a wine cave, Hyperion offers sailing enthusiasts an authentic ocean-going sailing experience without forsaking the modern conveniences that seasoned charterers have come to expect. 

The Experience

Thanks to her large pilothouse, spacious main salon and a master cabin that offers a luxuriously appointed office as well as a relaxation area, Hyperion punches well above her weight and size. 

Authenticity is key and guests will be wowed by her traditionally styled interiors and salon piano, which takes pride of place! Pale carpeting and copious wood panelling feature throughout along with both formal and casual nautically decorated dining areas, depending on whether you are planning an intimate candlelit supper or a casual morning brunch at a booth-style banquette.

There is ample storage in the two guest doubles and guest twin cabins, with wood panelling and crisp white linens creating a n classic cruiser vibe. Other wow factors include Hyperion’s split-level salon, which is divided by a sweeping staircase and her bold principle bathroom that’s finished in grey marble and features a solid marble bath tub.

Enjoy lounging with an apero and a good book on the white daybeds before diving in for a swim off the long-dock extension or taking a spin on some of Hyperion’s water toys. Finally, join your fellow guests for an alfresco sunset supper on the bimini-shaded aft deck.

The Captain

Captain Daniel Rawlins grew up on the coast of South Africa and started sailing at the age of eight. His superyacht career began over two decades ago and has encompassed three transatlantic crossings and two circumnavigations. A keen sportsman, he has spent long periods on the Pacific Ocean, captaining the 120 ft Perini Navi S/Y Gitana before joining Hyperion in 2010. A career spent experiencing multiple cruising grounds has taught Daniel to lead by example and he is enjoying his tenure on Hyperion.  

Chef & Cuisine

Award-winning French chef Marie Scully has sailing in her blood – she grew up boating off the North Atlantic coast. Also known as Scully, she started her culinary career working in Parisian restaurants. 

Scully spent 15 years travelling the world so it’s no surprise that her knowledge of global cuisine, unusual ingredients and authentic cooking styles is unparalleled.

Collecting recipes and influences along the way, Scully has earned her stripes in street kitchens, three-star Michelin restaurants and everything in between. She ran her own restaurant in Mexico and is equally enthralled by Asian cuisine so your tastebuds are in excellent - and highly experienced - hands.

Scully joined the superyachting world five years ago and her passion to create and innovate saw her competing in the chef competition at 2021’s Antigua Yacht Show. She won Best Main Course for her divine Flower Power mahi mahi dish, comprising Eastern-influenced nage, diced mango and pimiento.

You can expect more of the same on board Hyperion, where Scully is expertly guided by her inherently French instincts fused with Asian and South American influences.

ROTATIONAL CAPTAIN: Daniel Rawlins (British) Daniel grew up on the coast of South Africa and got involved in sailing with the Royal Natal Yacht Club at the young age of eight. His career in Super Yachting started in 1998, when he quickly completed three transatlantic crossing and two busy charter seasons before taking a permanent captain’s position on S/Y Gitana, a 120 foot Perini Navi in 2000. After 4 years he went on to complete two successful circumnavigations as Captain between 2004 and 2008, spending a great deal of time in the Pacific. Daniel has a wealth of experience in a multitude of different cruising grounds; he joined Hyperion in 2010 and plans on a long future with us. He has a calm nature and easy-going personality, approachable and confident who follows the belief that the best way to lead is by example. In his social time he dabbles in Photography, surfing and does competitive Triathlons and road cycling. ROTATIONAL CAPTAIN: Nicholas Jacklein (Canadian) Nico has been on board Hyperion since 2011, he has worked his way through the ranks and now rotates as captain with Daniel. Growing up sailing on the Great Lakes in Canada, Nico has spent many years racing and coaching at his local yacht clubs before discovering the world of yachting. Beyond Nicos’ enthusiasm for sailing in any capacity he tends towards the academic, having completed a degree in Communications, specializing in Economics and International Trade. His various hobbies include classic cars, skiing and kite surfing. MATE: Billy Holland (New Zealander) TBA DECKHAND: Ewan Medinger (British) TBA ___________________________________________________________ ROTATIONAL CHIEF ENGINEER: Thomas Dawson (British) Thomas has a wealth of experience on large sailing yachts, he joins us from a long-standing position as chief Engineer on 55m Marie, he is familiar with the systems found on vessel with big sailing plans. He brings a calm and confident set of skills to Hyperion’s engineering systems. He is a very personable crew and takes pride in keeping the vessel operating like clockwork. Any questions about Hyperion’s complex systems don’t hesitate to ask him. He is fluent in both French and English and conversational Spanish. Thomas returns home to the UK when he is off rotation to his family and 2 daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys just about any water sport a good run and of course Sailing. ROTATIONAL CHIEF ENGINEER: Gavin McIntosh (South African) Gavin grew up in Durban, South Africa and started sailing in the Southern Ocean soon after finishing high school. His career on board superyachts started in the Caribbean after completing multiple trans-Atlantic deliveries of 35-foot catamaran sailing yachts to the northern hemisphere. Gavin has a wealth of experience in marine engineering, and currently holds an engineering license which enables him to maintain and safely operate vessels up to 3000KW. He joined Hyperion in March 2021 as a rotational Chief Engineer. When Gavin is off rotation, he returns to his adopted home city, Amsterdam, where he pursues outside activities including golf, road biking and hiking. He also enjoys a good run around the squash courts, alongside spending valuable time with his wife and young daughter. His career in Super Yachting started in 1998, when he quickly completed three transatlantic crossing and two busy charter seasons before taking a permanent captain’s position on S/Y Gitana, a 120 foot Perini Navi in 2000. After 4 years he went on to complete two successful circumnavigations as Captain between 2004 and 2008, spending a great deal of time in the Pacific. Daniel has a wealth of experience in a multitude of different cruising grounds; he joined Hyperion in 2010 and plans on a long future with us. He has a calm nature and easy-going personality, approachable and confident who follows the belief that the best way to lead is by example. In his social time he dabbles in Photography, surfing and does competitive Triathlons and road cycling.<br /> <br /> <br /> ROTATIONAL CAPTAIN: Nicholas Jacklein (Canadian)<br /> Nico has been on board Hyperion since 2011, he has worked his way through the ranks and now rotates as captain with Daniel. Growing up sailing on the Great Lakes in Canada, Nico has spent many years racing and coaching at his local yacht clubs before discovering the world of yachting. Beyond Nicos’ enthusiasm for sailing in any capacity he tends towards the academic, having completed a degree in Communications, specializing in Economics and International Trade. He brings a calm and confident set of skills to Hyperion’s engineering systems. He is a very personable crew and takes pride in keeping the vessel operating like clockwork. Any questions about Hyperion’s complex systems don’t hesitate to ask him. He is fluent in both French and English and conversational Spanish. Thomas returns home to the UK when he is off rotation to his family and 2 daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys just about any water sport a good run and of course Sailing.<br /> <br /> <br /> ROTATIONAL CHIEF ENGINEER: Gavin McIntosh (South African)<br /> Gavin grew up in Durban, South Africa and started sailing in the Southern Ocean soon after finishing high school. His career on board superyachts started in the Caribbean after completing multiple trans-Atlantic deliveries of 35-foot catamaran sailing yachts to the northern hemisphere. Gavin has a wealth of experience in marine engineering, and currently holds an engineering license which enables him to maintain and safely operate vessels up to 3000KW. He joined Hyperion in March 2021 as a rotational Chief Engineer. When Gavin is off rotation, he returns to his adopted home city, Amsterdam, where he pursues outside activities including golf, road biking and hiking. Daniel has a wealth of experience in a multitude of different cruising grounds; he joined Hyperion in 2010 and plans on a long future with us. The high seas and a desire to travel the world led Joey to Europe in search of a deckhand position on board a super yacht. Joey then travelled to the USA from Europe where he joined us here aboard Hyperion. <br /> Joey enjoys surfing and skateboarding and was First in the South African Gravity Association’s Downhill Skateboarding Championship in 2014. Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Range & Performance

Built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with teak decks, she benefits from a semi-displacement hull to provide exceptional seakeeping and impressive speeds. Her low draft of makes her primed for accessing shallow areas and cruising close to the shorelines. She was built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) classification society rules.
