As new members of the club, we took friends out to dinner, thinking it would be a treat. Food was pretty awful. Staff is friendly. The view is very nice. But we will not eat here again any time soon.

The facility has seen better days, but the views and pleasure of sitting aside the lake listening to the moored boats knocking against the docks is very nice. Went here with family that have been members for years. In fact, our cousin was the first female member admitted when it converted from an all-male membership. Patio and indoor dining areas. Menu is OK, but the quality of the food if very average. Not what one would expect from a private, membership yacht club. Service was fine. Sitting outside, it became chilly and the waitress brought shawls for warmth. Very nice and considerate. The interior was warn and looked to be stripped out. Parties are hosted, but without a gang of people there you would see that the club needs to rehabilitate and dress up the two ball rooms/party areas. This is too prime of a location to let go to seed.

Lovely place for a little party. Very friendly atmosphere, space for basketball, swimming, diving, other yard games and a good size party tent.

Luna Inspired Street Food takes the helm at Ithaca Yacht Club’s restaurant

ITHACA, NY — Summers on Cayuga Lake are about to get a lot tastier: Luna Catering, of Luna Inspired Street Food, is taking over the food program at the Ithaca Yacht Club.

“It’s a good fit for us because we’re a growing company, we’re doing really, really cool inventive food, and the food and beverage was ready for a refresher,” said Kevin Sullivan, Luna’s owner.

Sullivan’s energy and enthusiasm to engage with Ithaca beyond Collegetown seems boundless as of late, as Luna recently announced it will open another Luna location on Aurora St. in the former space of Jade Garden.

With the new locations, Sullivan said he looks forward to keeping staff employed year-round, and being more a part of the surrounding community at events like Ithaca Fest, GrassRoots, and now at IYC.

At IYC, Luna will be doing a complete menu overhaul and introducing longer restaurant hours. (The beverage service will continue to be operated by IYC.)

The new menu hosts a variety of shareables, “baskets” (burgers and sandwiches), salads and full entrees. The price point is expected to be between ~$10 and $20.

Luna’s touch is most transparently seen in the shareables section, where sweet potato and kale tacos, charred street corn, and dueling mac n’ cheese made the jump from Stewart Ave.

A robust variety of salads, including blackberry spinach and Mediterranean salads, rounds out a selection of five burgers, and other sandwich specialties like grilled lamb gyros, and fried haddock sandwiches, all served with a pickle, and a choice of chips, fries or side salad.

Classic entree plates include New York strip steak, chicken piccata, Jail Island salmon, crab cakes, and more.

In addition, Luna’s arrival also coincides with the re-opening of The Jib, a casual concession menu.

“There’s a lot of people who would remember it if they went to the Yacht Club as kids,” said Sullivan. “Twenty years ago, it was like the spot.”

On the south side of the building, The Jib will serve the likes of burgers and fresh cut fries, chicken tenders, novelty ice cream and milkshakes: the foodstuffs of summer.

While you do have to be an IYC member to eat at The Jib and the restaurant at the IYC, there are often open membership events and tours available for prospective members.

“Their slogan is ‘It’s your cottage!’ by the lake,” he said. “It’s got a great swimming area, there’s lifeguards on duty, there’s a fire pit. It’s a beautiful area, there’s a lot of different amenities.”

Mother’s Day brunch will be the opening day for the new Luna-IYC collaboration, and it also is an event open to non-members .
