MERAKI was designed by Hoek Design , while Rhoades Young Design created the interiors,  with MCM Newport responsible for the owner’s representation and supervision of the construction. The twin guesthouse configuration is the fantastic addition to the layout, as it allows plenty of light into the owner’s cabin and the salon.

The three-cockpit layout provides separate spaces for the owners, guests and also serves as tender storage.

Accommodation onboard is offered for up to eight guests in four cabins: master stateroom, a double cabin, a twin and a convertible cabin. The crew quarters meanwhile provide accommodation for up to eight staff.

50m ketch Meraki

Recently the 50m modern classic ketch "Meraki" , built at Vitters Shipyard, was launched. The design work of Meraki started with the development and optimisation of hull, deck, and interior layout with a focus on performance, reliability, and comfort as the owners plan to sail in remote areas and race. Extensive computational fluid dynamic modeling and windtunnel testing resulted in a graceful, fast and stable hull shape. The yacht features sleek lines with reduced freeboard and low deckhouses which allow the helmsman unrivalled visibility over the deck. Meraki’s hull is one of the first of such a large yacht with a slight “tumble home”. The tumble home ensures extra righting moment at the optimum angle of heel and contributes to the overall beauty of the boat. The keel was designed with a large centre board to improve her upwind performance.

The deck layout of Meraki features a large centre cockpit with two steering stations and forward of the main deckhouse another cockpit area for quests or crew. This forward cockpit is protected by a sprayhood and provides access to the crew area that is located forward in the yacht. There is an aft owner’s deckhouse and private cockpit connected to the owner’s cabin. This rare three-cockpit layout adds a layer of versatility and design flow.

The interior of Meraki is unique and completely tailored to the owner’s wishes in a contemporary classic styling of the highest quality of any sailing vessel. Meraki represents a new, higher standard for modern classics.  She should be equally adept at cruising with family and friends or competing in sailing regattas  around the world.

All naval architecture and exterior styling are done by our design office, the interior is done by Rhoades Young and MCM Newport was responsible for the owner’s representation and supervision of the build.

Vitters Shipyard launches ‘modern-classic’ ketch

Vitters launches its new 50m project 'meraki'….

Image for article Vitters Shipyard launches ‘modern-classic’ ketch

This week saw Vitters, the Dutch sailing yacht specialist, launch its new 50m project Meraki . Designed by Hoek Design (exterior) and Rhoades Young Design (interior), Meraki has been manufactured to excel in the areas of performance, reliability and comfort as the owners plan to race, as well as sail her to some of the world’s most remote destinations.

According to the yard, the project began with an extensive research project comparing different hull models, beam length ratios, displacement length ratios and keel designs utilising velocity prediction programmes, computational fluid dynamics analysis and tank testing. The owner is an experienced sailor with exacting standards and engaged in every step of the process. The design team included Chris Bouzaid on hull shape and Clay Oliver who oversaw the optimisation of the underwater appendages. The overall structural engineering, naval architecture work and exterior design are by the Hoek office in close cooperation with this team.

The yacht features sleek lines with reduced freeboard and low deckhouses which allow the helmsman excellent visibility over the deck. Meraki’s hull is one of the first large yachts to be built with a slight “tumble-home”. The tumble-home ensures extra righting moment at the optimum angle of heel and contributes to the overall beauty of the boat. The keel was designed with a large centreboard to improve her upwind performance.

The deck layout of Meraki features a large centre cockpit with two steering stations and forward of the main deckhouse another cockpit area for guests or crew. This forward cockpit is protected by a sprayhood and provides access to the crew area that is located forward in the yacht. There is an aft owner’s deckhouse and private cockpit connected to the owner’s cabin. The three-cockpit layout, which is rare on such vessels, adds a layer of versatility to the build.

MCM Newport was responsible for the owner’s representation and supervision of the build. The interior was designed by Dick Young (of Rhoades Young Design) who worked closely with the owner, Hoek Design, and Vitters to optimise the layout and its integration with critical technical components.

sail yacht meraki

According to The Superyacht Agency , Vitters has delivered a total of 26 30m-plus projects since delivering its first in 1994. Over the last 10 years, the yard has delivered 10 vessels, averaging one delivery a year. However, having failed to deliver any superyacht projects in the last two years, the delivery of Meraki in 2020 will see Vitters deliver its first 30m-plus project since 2017.

Sailing yachts like Mike Lynch's are 'unsinkable bodies', CEO of boat manufacturing firm says

Bayesian superyacht which sank off Italy is an "unsinkable" vessel, Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, said.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

News of the sinking left CEO of The Italian Sea Group Giovanni Costantino in ‘sadness on the one hand and disbelief on the other’.

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

I think gary king calling out below deck’s producer interference could save his reputation (he’s not holding back), below deck sailing yacht: 8 signs that deckhand emma crouch will get fired (she's riding for a fall).

Below Deck Sailing Yacht figurehead Captain Glenn Shephard has damaged his reputation with a few red flag moves, and that could make way for a new captain in the spinoff. Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is currently airing, and returning alongside Captain Glenn is First Officer Gary King and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher. 63-year-old Captain Glenn is from Canada originally, and has been in the yachting industry for 22 years.

BDSY is the Below Deck franchise's third spinoff, but it has been marred by controversy. Gary is back for his fourth season on the show, so viewers have gotten to know him and his antics well. Gary is known for being a womanizing playboy who lacks accountability, and he runs his deck team crudely. What's more, Gary has a sexual misconduct allegation lodged against him from Summer 2022, when a Below Deck makeup artist alleged that Gary touched her inappropriately. This controversy, along with Gary's history of transgressions, has stained the franchise, and Captain Glenn along with it.

Captain Glenn Overlooks Gary King's Behavior

Which is not a good look.

Captain Glenn and Gary are very tight friends, with Gary even lovingly calling Glenn "Glenjamin." They spend time on Parsifal III together off the show and also hang out in their normal lives. Their friendship has always been obvious (via Watch What Happen Live With Andy Cohen ) and unfortunately, it's not a good look for Captain Glenn. The BDSY Captain has supported Gary publically on social media regarding the sexual misconduct allegations when he should be taking a stand against them.

While Captain Glenn is largely seen as endearing for his downtime cracker eating and documentary watching, his reputation has suffered because of his friendship with Gary. As someone who is the face of one of Bravo's biggest spinoffs, Captain Glenn should be more sensitive to the backlash Gary is getting and condemn his poor behavior on and off the charter season.

Captain Glenn overlooking Gary's issues is damaging his reputation, and his support of Gary is his major red flag.

Captain Glenn Can't Offer BDSY Anything New

What more can viewers see from captain glenn.

Outside of Captain Glenn's poor judgment regarding Gary, it seems that viewers have seen all they can of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Captain. Captain Glenn doesn't have the same charisma that Captain Lee Rosbach had and that Captain Jason Chambers, Captain Kerry Titheradge and Captain Sandy Yawn have. Viewers know what to expect from Captain Glenn, and with no surprises left from him, he should be replaced in the franchise. His hands-off management style is not effective, and it's led to many missteps in the charter seasons.

A more multi-faceted captain with a stronger personality would fit better in the Bravo spinoff.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Will BDSY Get A New Captain?

There's no talk of that happening.

While Below Deck Sailing Yacht would benefit from having a new captain replace Captain Glenn, there are no signals that that will happen. Captain Glenn's reputation may be sour at this point, mostly due to his friendship and support of Gary, but it's unlikely he will be pushed out in favor of a new captain. Below Deck Sailing Yacht will surely be greenlit for many seasons to come, and as long as Captain Glenn wants the role, Bravo is likely to give it to him.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
