With a life-long passion for boats and the water much of what I've done in life has in one way or another involved boats. As a youngster, my family owned several boats which we kept in Branford, CT where we belonged to the Indian Neck Yacht Club. After high school, I spent 15 years in the U.S. Coast Guard in which I spent 18 months in Alaska before returning to CT where I became certified as coxswain of Coast Guard search and rescue boats up to 44'. 

After my Coast Guard service, I worked for 10 years in the wholesale marine equipment business where I supplied boatyards and marine dealers throughout Connecticut. 

In 1983 I began selling new boats and worked for three reputable Connecticut dealerships; 3 years at Housatonic Marina in Stratford, 14 years at Milford Boat Works and then 14 years at Petzold's Marine. I was fortunate to learn from some of the most reputable people in the business. I now have a long, successful history of selling quality new boat brands such as Sabre, Back Cove, Ocean, Egg Harbor, Silverton, Mainship, Cape Dory, Black Watch, Phoenix, Coastal, Pursuit, Grady White and Mako powerboats plus O'Day, Pearson, Cal and Freedom sailboats. That's a lot of new boats!! 

In 2013, after 30 years of selling new boats I was ready for a change. I decided to concentrate exclusively on the brokerage boat market. I joined Brewer Yacht Sales, the Northeast's largest yacht brokerage firm. I've now been at Brewer Yacht Sales for over 10 years where I work out of two of Safe Harbor's largest Connecticut marinas: Pilots Point Marina in Westbrook and Bruce & Johnsons Marina in Branford.

‘Welcome to Connecticut’ highway signs updated to reference basketball, pizza, submarines

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - The big blue “Welcome to Connecticut” highway signs travelers see when they drive into the state have been updated.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Wednesday that the signs were replaced to feature UConn’s basketball national titles, New Haven’s world famous pizza, and General Dynamics Electric Boat submarines.

The signs were put up at seven key entry points, according to Lamont.

They included spots on I-95 and I-84 entering from New York, on I-91, I-84, and I-395 entering from Massachusetts, and on I-95 and U.S. Route 6 entering from Rhode Island.

Each sign is an invitation to experience all that we have to offer as one of the best states to live, work, and play.”

The signs read:

• Home of the Pizza Capital of the United States
• Home of the Basketball Capital of the World
• Home of the Submarine Capital of the World
• Stop for a bite in the Foodie Capital of New England

“These new signs reflect our state’s pride, our commitment to excellence, and our dedication to making a great first impression,” said transportation commissioner Garrett Eucalitto. “Each sign is crafted to enhance travel for residents and visitors, embodying the best of what we do in Connecticut. Thank you to Governor Lamont and the Connecticut Office of Tourism for highlighting Connecticut pride with this new branding campaign.”

In 2023, Connecticut experienced a record year for the travel industry with nearly 68 million visitors and $18.5 billion economic impact, according to Tourism Economics.
