Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn Marries Leah Shafer on Superyacht

The couple — who first connected on social media — got engaged in September 2023 after five years of dating

Captain Sandy Yawn has tied the knot — this time, in the romantic sense of the word!

The boat captain and Below Deck Mediterranean star, 58, married longtime love Leah Shafer on May 11, Yawn confirmed on Instagram . Fittingly, the couple said their "I dos" on a superyacht owned by their friend, It's a 10 Haircare founder Carolyn Aronson.

"I had no idea how amazing marriage could be! It feels incredible and I feel like the luckiest woman in the world," Yawn wrote on Tuesday, May 14. "I love you, Leah Rae Yawn!! Thank you for taking my name! Thank you to our entire family and friends for coming out to show your love and support to our relationship."

Yawn also shared videos from the wedding, which she said was filmed for a special Below Deck Mediterranean episode that will air on June 3. Yawn thanked Below Deck executive producer Nadine Rajabi for officiating their wedding.

Yawn and Shafer got engaged in September 2023 after five years of dating. At the time, the reality star — who popped the question — said she had already been thinking about marrying Shafer for years.

"I knew from the minute I met her, but the timing had to be right. I wanted to make sure we could truly do life together first," she told E! News , adding that when it came to her beachside proposal, Shafer wanted a true "fairytale" experience — which Yawn happily delivered.

"I planned a boat ride to a beautiful cove. I had it decorated with flowers with a path to a small table accompanied by three violinists where we could sit and have a small date," she told E! News of the romantic setup.

Yawn continued, "I shared my vision list of love I had written and wanted, then got on one knee. Then she said 'yes!' "

She said it was an unforgettable moment for both of them. "The look on her face was priceless, and my heart exploded! It was filled beyond capacity of anything I could ever imagine. Somehow I feel closer than I did before, and I can't explain it. There is an energy that I have never experienced in my life."

Yawn shared photos from the proposal on Instagram, including a shot of the couple embracing and visibly overcome with emotion.

"It's official! I asked Leah to marry me, and she said YESSSSS," she captioned the post. "We are engaged! Stay tuned for wedding 💍."

While attending BravoCon 2023 in November, Yawn told PEOPLE that the process of planning their wedding only strengthened the pair's bond. "Leah and I couldn't be happier or closer," she said. "It took us to the next level. I love it."

Yawn also shared that Shafer had taken charge of the wedding details, from the location to the flowers. Due to space constraints on the yacht, they had to limit their guest list to about 55 people.

Yawn has her Bravo reality series to thank for meeting her wife. Shafer, a Below Deck fan, reached out to Yawn on Facebook in 2018. After exchanging messages back and forth for a while, the two decided to meet in person in Los Angeles and sparked an immediate connection.

In her 2023 book, Be the Calm or Be the Storm , Yawn wrote about the importance of timing and how Shafer came into her life at just the right moment.

"I believe God has a way of preparing you for 'the one.' He knew I wasn’t ready for her all those years ago. And she wasn’t ready for me. God waited for us," she wrote. "He gave me opportunities to make different choices and be more conscious, so that when that sweet little Facebook message came across my page, I was open."

Shafer was previously married for 20 years to Ross Shafer, with whom she shares a teenage daughter.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Recap: Nice Day For A Yacht Wedding

By Glenn Rowley

We’re inching closer to the finale on this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . And at the top of the hour, the crew is still in the midst of their fancy, catered dinner aboard Parsifal. It’s a school night, with the final charter beginning the next morning. So everyone knows they’re supposed to be on their best behavior. But obviously that doesn’t keep Gary King from trying his darnedest to be naughty with Scarlett Bentley . Despite the new stew shutting down his attempts at PDA every chance she gets. She’s more concerned about staying on good terms with everyone on the team through the rest of the season. And knows that cuddling up too close to Gary would have the precise opposite reaction. Sorry, Gary.

Chef Marcos Spaziani can hardly enjoy himself during the nice meal, though. He’s too stressed about having to go fully gluten- and dairy-free on the hardest charter of the season. And it’s not just a snobbish dietary preference, this time. The incoming primary has Celiac disease. So anything with gluten in it would be a major danger to her health. Yes, including the multi-tiered wedding cake she’s requested. So rather than party with his crew mates, Marcos is down in the galley prepping all things gluten-free.

Eventually, Gary and Colin Macrae manage to tear him away from his meal prep for an hour of fun. Which is turns into an another hour. Then another. Soon enough, the entire crew is lining up for the boys to take a round of hurricanes. Giving all the girls another chance to slap someone in the face after throwing a cup of water on them. Of course, Daisy Kelliher delights in getting to smack Gary. And Gary delights equally in spraying her with the shot he had saved in his mouth. The evening turns into a slightly raucous jacuzzi party before everyone calls it a night. As Daisy says in her confessional, the hangover will be a problem for tomorrow. So will Marcos ‘ lack of sleep, when he, Colin and Gary stay up until 2 a.m. devolving into that weird kind of slap-happy roughhousing-turned-cuddling that some straight men seem to relish. I’ll never understand it.

The next morning, everyone’s severely hung over but alive. Except Captain Glenn Shephard , who understandably has absolutely no sympathy whatsoever for his crew’s “self-inflicted” misery. He told them not to go crazy, after all. The hours tick away and the charter pickup draws ever closer. At 8:30 a.m., Kelsie Goglia ‘s picking up all the empty bottles littered around the deck while Daisy and Scarlett clean up the bar. By 9 a.m. pretty much everyone is up and working…except for Marcos and Colin , who’s fast asleep in their cabin. This is a bigger problem for the chef, who has plenty of things he could be doing in the galley to prepare. You know it’s especially bad when the captain has to come wake you up…

Somehow preparations for the charter come together with minutes to spare. Despite Scarlett misplacing her radio. And Captain Glenn pointedly procrastinating writing the speech he’s supposed to give for the guests’ beachside wedding. And Daisy dropping a tray of glasses. Oh, and Chef Marcos having absolutely no idea what he’s going to cook for the next three days. But ready or not, here the guests come! With matching suitcases!

En route to Ses Dames, Captain Glenn gives the guests a pre-wedding gift of a sail. It’s good timing considering they probably won’t be able to sail for the rest of the charter. A.k.a. the remainder of the season. And Chef Marcos manages to whip up his first purely gluten-free meal of the charter. So even when they’re dragging, it feels like the team is still succeeding.

below deck sailing yacht recap season 3 episode 16 ashley marti scarlett bentley laundry room eavesdropping

After taking the guests out in the tender to explore some caves, Gary returns to Parsifal, where the topic of marriage gets brought up in the crew mess. It’s on everyone’s minds, considering they’re about to throw a wedding for their grand finale. But Gary says he doesn’t believe in marriage. He does want a girlfriend, though. As long as she’s a yachtie, too. Because he prefers up close and personal to long distance. And he eventually wants kids as well. Any takers? Daisy ? Eavesdropping on the conversation from the laundry room, Ashley Marti and Scarlett both declare they’re officially over the first mate. But we’ll see how true that resolve holds in the next few days.

For their first dinner, the guests have requested an astrology-themed meal. Which means the stews have on questionable makeup and placards with their astrological signs. ( Daisy ‘s a Gemini, in case anyone was wondering. Marcos is a Capricorn.) To compensate for the dietary restrictions, the chef leans into a colorful, veggie-forward meal including vodka tomato soup, shishito peppers with strawberry and red pepper coulis, and gluten-free spaghetti with zucchini and cherry tomatoes in a combination of truffle, basil and paprika oil. Making it work, Marcos! Now the poor guy just has to start making a gluten-free wedding cake. At 11:30 at night.

below deck sailing yacht recap season 3 episode 16 captain glenn shephard

The next morning is the last full day of the season. And despite barely sleeping, Marcos has three perfectly round layers of wedding cake baked and cooling in the crew mess. While some of the guests enjoy a casual morning of swimming and water sports, Marcos gets to work icing the cake for the wedding. And the bride and groom-to-be (not the primary, by the way) meet with Captain Glenn to go over logistics for their big day. They want everything to be “short and sweet” but also, you know, completely perfect. No pressure at all.

Daisy puts Ashley in charge of setting up the beach for the ceremony. And Barnaby Birkbeck volunteers to come along to help. But once they arrive at the beach in mind with only two hours to spare, it’s covered with people. They’re literally everywhere. Leaving no room to decorate an entire wedding ceremony. Gary makes the executive decision that the best thing to do is hope that the beach clears out by 6:30. That’s cutting it awfully close, considering Daisy tells the guests to be ready at ten to seven. But hey, at least the wedding cake is done.

Finally, the time for the wedding arrives. And there’s still a complicated web of logistics. Lots of going back and forth on the tender, dropping certain crew members off and taking others back to the boat. Not to mention, you know, the guests. The groom. And lastly, the bride, attended to by Scarlett and Ashley . Daisy ‘s recruited Colin to play music as the bride walks down the aisle. Captain Glenn ‘s officiating, of course. For some reason the bride doesn’t have a bouquet, and the groom’s wearing a collar-less shirt. So I’m a little distracted during their vows. But the wedding was surely magical for them, and now they have it forever on Bravo! Next week: the season finale!

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 1 Star Jenna MacGillivray Is Engaged

Shannon Raphael - Author

Published Aug. 16 2022, 12:39 p.m. ET

Jenna MacGillivray and her fiancé, Dave Cartmill.

Wedding bells are officially ringing for Below Deck Sailing Yacht alum Jenna MacGillivray !

The yacht chief stew, who starred on the debut season of the Below Deck spin-off series, announced her engagement to longtime beau Dave Cartmill on her Instagram page on Aug. 13.

In the caption of her engagement announcement, Jenna referred to her fiancé as the "best person."

As BDSY fans will remember, Jenna's boatmance with Chef Adam Glick was a central storyline on Season 1 of the Bravo series, but the pair broke up after the charter season wrapped up (but before the reunion aired in June of 2020).

Though her relationship with the chef did not work out, Jenna has clearly found a lasting connection with her now-fiancé. Who is Jenna's husband-to-be, and what has she been up to since viewers last saw her on the show? Keep reading to find out.

Dave Cartmill and Jenna MacGillivray.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' alum Jenna MacGillivray is engaged. Who is her fiancé?

Following her public romance with Chef Adam, Jenna noted on her Instagram feed in September of 2021 that she didn't want to "post pics of the men in [her] life that she date[s]."

That changed with her now-fiancé, Dave.

The chief stew first shared a photo with Dave, on the app in February of 2022, though it's unclear when exactly the two started dating. Dave's own Instagram feed is set to private, so not much is publicly known about his life and career.

About six months after Jenna went public with Dave, she confirmed that the two were set to wed.

"It took me a long time to find true comfort and happiness with myself independent of anyone else. I'm forever thankful I loved myself enough to stay alone long enough to wait for the best person I could have ever imagined for me," Jenna wrote in the caption of her Aug. 13 post on Instagram. "Exploding."

After Jenna confirmed the exciting news with a snapshot of her and her fiancé and a photo of her emerald-cut ring, several stars from the various shows in the Below Deck franchise sent along their warm wishes in the comments' section.

"Omg congratulations!!!!!! So so happy for you!!!!" Jenna's BDSY Season 1 co-star, Ciara Duggan, wrote.

Below Deck Med deckhand Colin Macy O'Toole added a "Congrats girlie!" comment under the post, and BDSY Season 2 personality Dani Soares shared a simple "Congratulations," along with two red heart emojis.

Jenna's former boss (and the captain of Parsifal III ), Glenn Shephard, added, "So happy for you guys."

It does not appear that Jenna's one-time co-star and now-ex, Chef Adam, has publicly commented on the news.

What is Jenna from 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' doing now?

Though she didn't return to the show for Seasons 2 or 3 of BDSY (Daisy Kelliher has been the chief stew on those seasons), Jenna has kept fans updated about her life on her Instagram page.

Once her time on the show wrapped up, Jenna did a lot of traveling, and she has shared the details of her various adventures on her Instagram profile. She did work on another boat in the Bahamas, and she co-hosted the Wild Loner podcast until the spring of 2021.

Now, the Canadian may be getting ready to plan her wedding!

You can catch up on the first three seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht on Peacock now.

Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher Unpacks ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Season 3 Ahead of Finale

Daisy Kelliher in Below Deck Sailing Yacht - Season 3

Daisy Kelliher started Season 3 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht with the mindset that she wasn’t going to take any “you know what” from anyone. That proved challenging for the chief stew as she ventured through turbulent waters aboard Parsifal III.

The luck of the Irish wasn’t always smiling on Kelliher as she managed professional and personal conflicts within her department, initially between second stew Gabriela Barragan and third stew Ashley Marti. That was until the environment was too much for Barragan, which led to Scarlett Bentley filling the position as a junior stew.

Adding to the drama was first mate Gary King , whose flirty ways didn’t make things any easier. With wedding bells ringing for guests on the final charter and the season finale on the horizon, we caught up with Daisy to unpack what we’ve seen so far and to get some burning questions answered.

Pretty crazy that the crew had to plan for a wedding with so little time.

Daisy Kelliher: It was definitely a lot. At the same time, I’ve been doing this for 10 years, so I was kind of like, “Whatever, we’re going to either do it or not.” I’ve reached a point in my career where stressing about it won’t help. I have confidence. We can only do what we can do within 24 hours, but it turned out to be pretty incredible.

Gary was at the center of a lot of the issues you faced in your department. Looking back, how difficult was that?

I think I came in pretty confident and went in with a way I wanted to handle everything. It did not work. People are going to do what they are going to do. The Gary part was very difficult for me because I feel like I really pushed his support away last season. I tried to take a different approach with him this time. I tried to be softer. It didn’t seem like either approach worked. It was a massive struggle within my team, but it was a great learning curve and growth for me. Me and Gary, I think had a better relationship this season. It’s not all Gary. It’s the girls too. Work-wise the girls were incredible, but it wasn’t about work all the time.

Do you feel like you could have done anything differently to prevent Gabriela from leaving mid-season?

I see the comments. I know a lot of people feel it was my problem or issue with Gabriela crumbling. I don’t agree with that. I stand by the fact I did my absolute best. Gabriela is the same age as me. I think it was a lot in her head. Someone may be a bit paranoid or feel that everyone is against them, but there is not much I can say or do. It was a personal inner growth she needed to work on.

Captain Glenn Shephard Talks Tense Situation in 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 3

You certainly had your share of difficult charter guests. Erica Rose came back. Then you had a very demanding charter with Dr. Kim Nichols. How was it reliving these experiences?

Nobody believes me, but it was actually worse in real life than on the edited, compressed [version]. People experienced that for an hour. We got a full three days of it. Rewatching it was funny. They are not awful people. Everyone has a good heart. Them screaming my name as I ran around, maybe they didn’t realize the impact. I’m a human as well. I don’t know how they felt watching. I look back and laugh because I can’t believe I lived through it and that happened. It was all a bit surreal.

Ashley felt she should have been higher up on the stew hierarchy. It came up again when Scarlett came on board and you decided to make both junior stews. Did it make you rethink having a second and third stew?

I think it was important for me to show the girls we are a team. I did try to explain to Ashley, which didn’t get aired, that in the yachting industry the only reason we have a second stew is to have a platform to move forward. It’s motivational, but it’s not there to boss people around or be above someone else. It was important to me that she understood that by the end of the season. It massively made me think about what I’m going to do next time. Maybe I’ll make everyone a junior stew.

When it comes to your relationship with Gary, everyone seems to chime in including Captain Glenn Shephard . What do you make of the infatuation between you two?

I knew at the time during the season that my big storyline was going to be me and Gary. I very much predicted what story was going to be told. The people behind the scenes explained that the chemistry between us was so intense. The whole boat could feel it. I was prepared for what was going to happen. I was surprised with how obsessed everyone is with us being a couple. I thought everyone would be against it. We are just friends. I hate to tell everyone that, but there is nothing more to it. Just very flirtatious.

For now. Never say never. Last year there was no way I would have said I was going to kiss him. So that was surprising.

Do you feel seeing him flirting with all the girls was the turnoff?

Massively. I was the first girl in the first season he hit on. It didn’t air, but I brushed him off straight away. Other people commented saying since I didn’t give him that attention, he looked for it elsewhere. I thought that was an interesting point. Fair enough, but as soon as he went off with Sydney [Zaruba] and Alli [Dore] and now Ashley and Gabriela — yeah, maybe things would have ended differently if he continued to pursue me, but he didn’t. We’ll never know.

How would you sum up the season?

I thought it was hard to top season 2 because so much happened. This season has been such a roller coaster of emotions. So much happened in season 3. For me, it was a lot of ups and downs. Like last season, the aim for me was to come out on a high with a strong team and loving friendship. It was a massive success. That’s the fun in the show, having the audience come with us. There were points where maybe they thought, “Are we going to make it? Is the boat going to make it?” We finish on a big high, which you will see in the finale.

What can we expect from the reunion?

I think people took accountability in the reunion. It’s good to talk about the incidents during the season, but it was all good. I think we’re all still talking to each other.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16 featured the franchise's most chaotic wedding yet

It wasn't exactly a picture-perfect beach wedding during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16

Gary King and charter guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16

This week's Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16 featured a tall order for our crew of the Parsifal III : their first guest wedding. Not only a guest wedding but a guest wedding on a beach . And if you're even a casual viewer of Below Deck , you know that beach set-ups rarely go smoothly, and this one was no exception.

In the penultimate episode of season 3, the crew welcomes engaged couple Allegra Gray and Gabe Szczepanek and their friends as the season's final charter guests. From the get-go, the guests were a bit more high-maintenance than usual, as their gluten-free dietary restrictions proved to be chef Marcos Spaziani 's toughest preference sheet yet. And that was before he even got to the hardest bit: a three-tiered gluten-free wedding cake.

The crew — most of whom were severely hungover from the night before, with several sleeping well past their start time (hi, Marcos and Colin) — rallied to make sure they ended the charter season on a high note and gave Allegra and Gabe the beachside nuptials of their dreams. But the wedding gods had other plans.

When first mate Gary King, chief engineer Colin MacRae  and junior stew Ashley Marti boat over to the Menorca beach that Captain Glenn Shepard chose as the perfect spot for the intimate wedding, the busy marina is filled with sunbathers and swimmers. "What the f*ck?" Colin exclaims upon arrival. "They should just get married on the boat."

"There's a f*ckload of people on this beach and I don't want to f*ck up these people's wedding," Ashley says in a confessional.

"F*cking hell, this is the worst day," Gary concurs.

But Captain Glenn told the deckhands before they left, "Set up as wide an area as possible to discourage people from coming too close," so that's what they do, even as bikini-clad vacationers frolic around both sand and surf. They pop a white tent to cover the drink station and plunk some artificial floral arrangements into the sand. The whole rushed set-up "looks like a Halloween prank," Colin says, and frankly, he's not wrong.

At least the bride-to-be looks like a wedding magazine cover girl, in an elaborate gown from New York's famous Kleinfeld Bridal. "I went with a very subtle look," Allegra jokes. The formal frock does make deboarding the tender quite difficult, with Colin having to carry the bride onto the beach.

The ceremony itself is a sweet affair, with Captain Glenn officiating and Colin providing some procession music on his guitar, though people creeping on the event from nearby kayaks probably wasn't what the bride and groom had in mind for their intimate exchanging of vows.

At the end of it all, the bride throws the bouquet—which chief stew Daisy Kelliher catches, causing her on-again, off-again smooch partner Gary to throw himself into the ocean and yell, "I'm not marrying you, Daisy!"

below deck sailing yacht wedding

After ending another charter on a high note, the crew are raring to go for a night on the town. Ashley swears she’ll stay out of Gary’s and Scarlett’s boatmance while Scarlett continues to walk a fine line between balancing her feelings for Gary and keeping her interior team happy. As charter number eight approaches, Glenn informs the crew they will be stuck at anchor for the next several days due to bad weather, leaving the crew to feel the pressure to bring their A game. Marcos feels it the most as he’s tasked with a molecular gastronomy meal while just receiving bad news from home.

Captain Lee Rosbach Discusses Strained Relationship With Captain Sandy, Hints at Not Being Invited to Her Wedding, Plus He Admits to Missing Below Deck and If He’s Been Asked to Return to Show

Captain Lee Rosbach Talks Potentially Returning to Below Deck After Health Issues and Discusses Fall Out With Captain Sandy

Below Deck has been a big hit with fans since it premiered, and Captain Lee Rosbach is a major part of that success. However, the famed crew leader had to step away from the series following mobility concerns, and he selected his friend Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean  to step in and take his place. Now, he’s discussing potentially returning to the series as well as where he stands with his estranged friend.

Below Deck has been around since 2013. Since then, there have been multiple franchises, but Captain Lee will always be remembered as the very first to lead the crew on the show. However, he made the difficult decision to leave in season 10.

Recently, Captain Lee spoke to The Standard and told the outlet that he and Captain Sandy won’t be mending things anytime soon. He said, “You’d probably spend a better chance of seeing God twice in the next 30 seconds than that happening.”

Fans will recall that the feud began when Captain Sandy made a call on his show that he disagreed with, and Captain Lee then publicly bashed her. She then made a cryptic social media post.

The outlet then asked if he thought they could ever fix things. The legendary yacht caption responded, “No, I don’t. I did an interview, and they asked me, point blank, ‘Do you like Captain Sandy?’ And I said, ‘Well, you asked a question, so I’ll give you the honest answer. No, it’s that simple.”

He continued, “I know you asked the question. You want an honest answer? I gave it to you. I don’t feel the need to explain. You know why I don’t, or go into anything in great detail, but let’s just say my wedding invitation got lost in the mail.”

For context, Captain Sandy recently married her longtime partner, but Lee was not invited to the wedding.

Regarding no longer being on the show, he said, “I do miss it. I miss the traveling. I miss the challenges. And there’s certainly no lack of challenges on board, each one unique and different. So, yeah, I do miss it.”

The interviewer then asked if he had been approached about coming back. He explained, “No one has spoken to me about it, and if they would, I would tell you because that’s why they don’t tell me anything. I just can’t keep it to myself.”

Captain Lee remains busy despite no longer being on Below Deck . He hosts a pop culture podcast called Salty , and he also has a true crime show. However, fans would love to see “The Stud of The Seas” make a grand return.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

90 day fiancé: "american dream" how michael's usa life is a nightmare for angela, 90 day fiancé’s jovi dufren reveals shocking opinion about angela deem after michael ilesanmi joins new family.

  • Gary's sexual misconduct scandal has permanently tarnished Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
  • Bravo must remove Gary from future seasons for the show to regain its reputation.
  • Season 5 may be in danger of cancellation due to Gary's scandal.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is highly anticipated, but its fate isn't promising after Gary King 's sexual misconduct scandal was revealed. Captain Glenn Shephard leads the cast of the exciting spin-off aboard the Parsifal III, with Gary, Colin Macrae, and Daisy Kelliher's love triangle as the pinnacle of season 4's drama. However, after Gary's sexual misconduct allegations were revealed and later brushed under the rug by Bravo producers, the popular franchise staple could be in danger. Will Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 return?

During Below Deck Sailing Yacht filming in the summer of 2022, makeup artist Samantha Suarez escorted cast members back and forth for confessional interviews, including Gary. After a talking head in which Gary was visibly intoxicated, Samantha walked him back to his quarters, at which time Gary prevented her from leaving, even grabbing her from behind. While Bravo issued a statement, the allegations were barely addressed, and Gary still allegedly filmed Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Gary King's Misconduct Scandal Has Put A Permanent Negative Stain On BDSY

Gary needs to go.

Gary's sexual misconduct scandal has put a permanent stain on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . He's openly struggled with professionalism and alcohol on the show for years. Additionally, this isn't the first time alcohol has gotten Gary in trouble with sexual harassment. While Daisy came to his defense, his love triangle with Daisy and Colin was also problematic, with Gary becoming distracted by the Below Deck drama. By casting Gary in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, Bravo indicated that sexual misconduct wasn't taken seriously by the network .

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Needs To Bring It For Bravo To Order Another Season

The series is in trouble.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 has allegedly already been filmed, with rumors swirling that Gary's scandal has halted its release. Given his prominence in the series, it would be difficult to edit Gary out of the show or even reduce his role. Therefore, it would be better for Bravo to scrap the current season entirely and film a new charter season for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 .

It's the responsibility of Bravo producers to ensure the safety of the cast and crew during filming, and Samantha wasn't adequately protected from Gary's advances.

The cast and crew would need to bring it to revitalize the spin-off, or it's going to get canceled. Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Down Under are successful enough to continue without Below Deck Sailing Yacht . The popular cast members could go to another Below Deck series.

What Can Below Deck Sailing Yacht Producers Do To Fix The Show's Reputation?

They need to get rid of gary.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is a sinking ship , but not all hope is lost. Bravo producers have already shown their understanding of the seriousness of Gary's sexual misconduct by disinviting him to BravoCon in 2023. However, they need to further distance themselves from Gary and fire him from future seasons. If it's impossible to decrease his presence in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, the season needs to be scrapped. Only then can Below Deck Sailing Yacht return in good faith and conscience for another installment.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is available to stream on Peacock.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is a spin-off of the Below Deck reality television series. Premiering on Bravo, the show follows the life of a Yacht crew as they attempt to navigate a busy Charter season in which many customers make use of a 177-foot sailing yacht. Over the first three seasons, the yacht has been to Greece, Croatia, and Spain.

Below Deck’s Hannah Ferrier Has Us Feeling Old With Photos of Daughter Ava Who Looks All Grown Up

Below Deck Med s Hannah Ferrier Shares Photos of Daughter Ava Who Looks All Grown Up And Has Us Feeling Old

Below Deck Mediterranean alum Hannah Ferrier shared new photos of 3-year-old daughter Ava that have Us feeling old.

“My kid just got her first haircut… AUGH,” Ferrier, 37, captioned an Instagram post earlier this month, which featured photos of Ava’s new hairstyle.

Bravo fans took to the comments section to point out how Ferrier’s daughter with husband Josh Roberts looks all grown up.

“What happened to the baby? 😮,” wrote one follower while another added, “Wait… when did she get so big? Shouldn’t she still be a baby 😢 she’s your twin!”

Others also commented how Ava was “growing up so fast” as Ferrier continues to document major milestones with her mini-me. Ferrier expanded her family with Roberts after leaving Below Deck Mediterranean in 2020.

Before her shocking onscreen departure, Ferrier opened up about her relationship with Roberts, telling the cameras during season 5, “This is definitely the first relationship that I actually see some longevity and potentially getting married and making babies and having a family.”

Ferrier was subsequently fired by Captain Sandy Yawn — who has recently revealed that the pair have mended their falling out . Meanwhile, Ferrier announced her pregnancy on the night of the season 5 premiere and welcomed her and Roberts’ daughter later that year.

The couple have since gotten engaged and tied the knot in March 2022 with Ava taking part in their wedding as a flower girl. Ferrier previously admitted she wasn’t in a rush to expand her family again after Ava’s arrival.

“Josh has [thought of baby No. 2], but I’m on the fence still,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in May 2021. “I think I still have PTSD. I had a really traumatic labor. So, I don’t know.”

I lived ‘below deck’ on a luxury yacht — here’s what you need to know.

Tahiti, St. Thomas and the French Riviera — I’ve yachted in all of these exotic locales, albeit from the comfort of my couch. And, millions of Americans are in the same boat.

In 2013, “Below Deck,” introduced the masses to the most glamorous mode of traveling: yachting. Since then, it’s become a Bravo mainstay with Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean’’ premiering in June.

But how real is the reality show? I spent five nights on a yacht in Croatia to find out.

A woman in a bikini standing on the deck of the 'Adriatic Escape' boat, ready to experience reality TV drama on the high seas in Maldives.

A tip on tipping

My suitcase wasn’t bursting with Benjamins. An agency at your final destination provides cash for the crew’s tip money. While you’re expected to tip $30,000 for a two-night cruise on “Below Deck,” in real life you only have to tip 10% to 15% of your charter fee. That’s about $10,000 for a two-night cruise on a 180-foot charter yacht like Mustique (from $250,000 a week), which stars in the new season.

According to Zvonimir Androić, president of the yacht charter company Via Croatia, more often than not, the tip comes from what’s left over after provisioning.

So, shun the Dom Pérignon and skip the beluga caviar, and you’ll have money to spare.

What’s up, dock?

A luxury yacht, named Adriatic Escape, docked at Split Marina with a weekly rental price of US$52,800

In real life, “Below Deck’s” favorite commercial-break cliff-hanger isn’t nearly as dramatic. Docking in our yacht, Via Croatia’s five-cabin, 100-foot Adriatic Escape (from $52,800 a week), was breezy.

I asked the crew if they hated setting up the slide — a tortuous, Herculean task if you believe what you see on TV.

“It’s not that bad,” a twentysomething Croatian deckhand, as cute as his on-screen counterparts, told me. “That said, we’re definitely not sad if you don’t ask for it.”

Play it cool

Barbie Pascual arranging a table on the set of Below Deck Season 11.

Despite being served meat on more than one occasion, my vegetarian co-guests on board weren’t divas when it came to cuisine — a major source of chef-related stress on the show.

Tantrums aren’t the norm Barbie Pascual, the “Below Deck” stewardess famous for putting up with former “RHONY” star Jill Zarin’s demands for the perfect Diet Coke in the “Real Housewives of Grenada” episode, tells me. “Guests know they are being filmed so their reactions are more extreme than they’d be if the cameras weren’t around,” she says.

Pascual’s biggest tip for first-time yachters? Don’t go skinny dipping, like they do on the show, after dark.

“People forget about currents, sharks, etc.,” she says. “Jumping in the water should always be with the captain’s consent!”

Our humorless Croatian yacht captain was a far cry from “Below Deck Mediterranean’s” affable Captain Sandy Yawn. I think we only saw him twice over the course of four days, and he definitely didn’t join us for dinner.

That was fine by us because the stews and deckhands were always handy with anything we needed — including at chat.

Asking for it

A group of people on the Adriatic Escape boat, available for weekly rent at $52,800

“No” is a word you’ll never hear on a yacht, unless there is a safety issue, Pascual says.

While we didn’t ask our crew to do a striptease or decorate for ‘70s night (two recurring requests on the show), out-there demands aren’t out of the question, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

For example, Via Croatia is currently retrofitting one of its multimillion-dollar superyachts for an upcoming charter booked by a multigenerational Jewish family from Florida.

“In addition to paying the charter fee, the client is literally buying everything new: pots, pans, silverware, et cetera,” said Androić. “They’re even spending $30,000 on a new tender for the elderly mother-in-law.”

Now, I’m no reality show producer, but a picky primary trying to keep his wife, her elderly mom and their kosher kids happy at sea has the makings of an Emmy Award-winning episode.

Yachting on a budget

Agape Rose, an ultra luxury mini cruiser yacht with various amenities, sailing on Croatia's Adriatic coast.

Charters are cheapest at the beginning and end of a destination’s season. Via Croatia’s yuppiest yacht, the 160-foot, 12-cabin Agape Rose , fetches $200,000 a week in July and August. But it’s just $164,000 a week in April and October. Divide that by 24 of your closest friends and family and it’s just $6,800 a person.

If that’s still too much, consider booking a yacht club suite on one of MSC Cruises ’ Mediterranean voyages.

Sure, you’ll be on a cruise liner, but for $1,659 a person you’ll be treated to seven nights of private butler service with a private pool and restaurant that the pleb passengers don’t even know exists.
