A Classic Fall Beach Wedding at Bay Head Yacht Club

Nina and Megan had the honor of documenting Sarah and Bob’s classic Fall beach wedding at Bay Head Yacht Club. The day was filled with love, emotions, and tons of smiles. It was a bright and sunny Fall day at the Jersey Shore, a perfect day to get married.

Why They Picked Bay Head to Get Married

Sarah grew up in Bay Head, NJ even living for 10 summers on a boat docked at this very yacht club. Her parents now live across the street. They were married in Bay Head on the same weekend in October 26 years prior. Her late grandparents made their family home here in the 1970s, and everyone in town knew Dick and Nancy and their entertainment. Therefore, Bayhead yacht club was the obvious choice for their event.

How They Met 

From the Bride : “We met at Princeton in the Army ROTC program in the first week of Sarah’s freshman year.  We later learned that we had attended rival high schools (The Hill School and The Lawrenceville School). We started officially dating just two months before Bob deployed to Iraq with the 82nd Airborne. Together we have done 3 years of long distance, two combat deployments, and 7 respective moves together. Bob is getting out of the army the week of our wedding, and we will be starting married life (and short distance dating!) in the Upper West Side of NYC.”

The Details 

We really loved the color pallet of this wedding and think that Flowers by Melinda did an absolutely fantastic job of putting it all together.

From The Bride:

“Our design vision is to have a classic but not stuffy black tie wedding with a coastal elegant aesthetic. We drew inspiration from vintage boathouses and wanted our wedding to have an Old World touch.  We used dark greens, blues, gold, brass and silver— because that’s what color the beach is in the fall. We wanted to have an OUTSTANDING band (Bob is an unreal dancer), an open bar, and all our favorite people.”

Personal Touches

There were a lot of personal touches at their wedding. A special touch that we loved was Sarah’s necklace, a 1927 vintage piece from her late paternal grandmother. We also thought Sarah looked adorable in Bob’s army shirt during bridal prep! 

The Ceremony 

Sarah and Bob are devout Christians and wanted their faith in God to be central throughout the day. Therefore,  getting married in a church was a must. Sarah and the wedding party traveled to the church in a trolley and when they arrived Sarah shared a special moment outside with her dad before heading down the aisle. Bob’s face when he saw his bride for the first time was priceless. 

The Wedding Portraits

Post ceremony Nina photographed the couple around the Bay Head Yacht club grounds. They had the most perfect fall light that made for truly gorgeous images.  You can feel their joy through their  huge smiles and really feel see chemistry. And how amazing are all of Sarah’s twirls ?!!!

A Unique Entrance on a Boat

One of the perks to hosting your wedding at Bay Head Yacht Club is the one of a kind unique way to enter your reception. After their ceremony Sarah + Bob ( and Nina) hopped onto a boat and took a private cruise to their reception. They got to enjoy a glass of celebratory champagne and spend some alone time together. They arrived at the dock with all of their guests watching and cheering them on. 

The Reception

Dancing was on the top of their wedding priority list and Brian Kirk and The Jerks trough one heck of a party. The night ended with Bob singing to Sarah with the band. How sweet!

A Spring Wedding at Bay Head Yacht Club

Kallan spent her summers as a child down the shore, where her parents and grandparents shared the neighboring houses at end of the block in Bay Head. Later in life, with Matt, they spent the work from home months cooped up at the beach house to escape the city for a little while. It’s their happy place, so where better to plan their wedding?

When I arrived on this little block on a rainy Saturday morning, there were three houses in a row that the wedding party and family shared to prepare for the day. We could easily jump from one house for hair and makeup to the next quiet location. Kallan had all her details ready, along with her dress for a quiet and intimate moment with her Mom and sisters to start out the day. This and all the other little details made the day. Every location was sentimental and no detail was overlooked. An ice cream truck at the rehearsal dinner, local beer served at the welcome party, and local bakery crumb bun in the welcome bags allowed the wedding guests to experience the Bay Head that Kallan and Matt love about their little corner of the world.

I love to capture the rehearsal dinner/welcome parties prior to the wedding day. It gives me a little insight into the couple that their friends and family know. The toasts are more personal and honest, and it gives me more time to get to know the key members of the wedding day so that I can walk in the door like an old friend. One additional perk for Kallan and Matt was the weather. Friday’s welcome party was basking in glowing light as the sun set over the bay. We knew it would not for their wedding day. Kallan fully understood this and took every opportunity to get her golden hour portraits! Let me tell you, the sunset was spectacular.

It did rain on the wedding day. It rained the entire day. However, it did not even phase Kallan or Matt. They were determined to have the best day despite the weather, because it’s their wedding day! Kallan and her bridesmaids kicked off with a Taylor Swift dance party while they waited for the trolley to take them to the church.

Bay Head Yacht Club has a surprising number of great covered locations. They weren’t going to be arriving at cocktail hour via hacker craft, because of the weather. They were, however, able to get pictures in it in the ship yard! I have to say, these photos of them floating in the hacker craft are even more beautiful than anything I could create from a boat sailing away from me. Even the pictures of Kallan and Matt on the deck of the yacht club, with the rain drops falling all around them are some of my favorite pictures ever, and perfectly tell the story of their romantic wedding day. The change in weather can create a beautiful and unique outcome.

The reception hall at Bay Head Yacht Club was glowing. Candles and bistro lights illuminated the wooden beamed ceiling and florals floated all over the tables. The napkins were embroidered with Kallan and Matt’s initials, and brought the whole design together beautifully.

Once they were introduced as the newlyweds, it was a fantastic dance party the rest of the night. Kallan and Matt did not leave the center of their dance floor once, except to cut their cake. With only their parents and grandparents to watch, they cut their cake in the corner as the party continued on. We left with them having the time of their lives.

Congratulations, Kallan and Matt! Your wedding was gorgeous, your willingness to go anywhere and everywhere with a smile on your faces was most admirable, and we had such a great time capturing your day!

The Bay Head Yacht Club is a NJ Wedding Venue located in Bay Head, NJ. The club is exclusive, and only holds weddings for members or member-sponsored guests. If you’re lucky enough to be or know a member, you’ll have the opportunity to get married at one of our very favorite NJ Wedding Venues. Ceremonies are held at the boat house and culminate in a wonderful getaway on a boat. Portraits can be taken on the docks or right on the boat as you enjoy champagne and hors d’oeuvres on the Barnegat Bay. Receptions are held in the club house in a unique setting that your guests will love.

Until I Found You // Taylor + Brendan

We were looking forward so much to Taylor and Brendan's event! We had the complete pleasure of filming a second wedding for this wonderful family, as we captured the bride's sister's wedding at the very same venue several years earlier. And with the gorgeous venue being one of our favorites, a sweet couple to celebrate with and a beautiful day in store, we knew we were in for an incredible treat!

There's really no better venue for a summer wedding than one right on the bay, with the beach just a few blocks away and the warm, salty ocean breeze in the air. Taylor and Brendan chose to hold their wedding event at the incredible Bay Head Yacht Club in Bay Head, New Jersey on what was an absolutely perfect summer day.

The guys got ready together in a home rented nearby. Brendan and his groomsmen all wore matching classic black tuxedos, looking so formal and fantastic on this exciting day. And we loved the monogrammed suspenders and the 'no socks' look that went along with the formal tuxes... very apropos for a warm-weather, bayside wedding!

The beautiful bride had such a sophisticated, regal look on her wedding day, with her bridal gown featuring a straight neckline, prominent shoulder straps and an elegant ball gown silhouette. In her chic updo, Taylor fastened a fabulous sparkling crown headband and a long veil for the ceremony. And that gorgeous crystal bow highlighting her waistline was extraordinary! So lovely!

Taylor carried an amazing, full white orchid bridal bouquet. And her bridal party's orchids in pink looked wonderful against their light blue gowns. Such gorgeous, summery color choices for this shore wedding event.

The couple had their first look in the club's Dale Building, a boat house just around the bend from the main clubhouse. This is always one of the most emotional and thrilling parts of the wedding day and we may have been as excited as Taylor and Brendan themselves!

During and after their first look, photos were taken onsite and along the beach by the exceptional Paul Francis Photography team. As always, it was so awesome to work with Paul for this wonderful wedding event. And we couldn't ask for a more beautiful day for photo shoots outside at this waterside property. We know Taylor and Brendan will treasure these formal and candid photos forever.

Taylor and Brendan's ceremony was held back in the breezy boat house. An amazing floral arch overflowing with pink blooms stood above Taylor and Brendan as they recited their vows and exchanged rings. Soon, it would be official!

After their 'I do's', the couple traveled to the Bay Head Yacht Club's clubhouse for their reception via Bay Head's luxury boat! We always love hitching a ride with the couple to film as they're whisked away across the water to their reception at Bay Head. It's such a romantic, and yet equally fun and exciting moment!

The clubhouse was completely enveloped in deep purple, fuchsia, plum and lavender florals and bright greenery within the table centerpieces, garland and chandelier installations, all from David Mitchell Fine Event Design . The reception introductions signaled the start of the party, as well as Taylor and Brendan's first dance. All their friends and family cheered them on as they shared their first dance of the evening, and their first dance as 'husband and wife'.

Touching dances with their parents and awesome, well-written (and funny!) toasts followed. Then, the dance floor was opened, and East Coast Entertainment totally rocked the house all night! Taylor and Brendan took time out for a romantic stroll along the dock at sunset before returning to dance the night away with their friends and family.

It was such a pleasure to be a part of capturing this gorgeous wedding day for Taylor and Brendan. Congratulations to the newlyweds! We wish them a lifetime filled with love and joy.
