– Rolex Real vs Fake – The Ultimate Guide Spotting Them
Rolex real vs fake - the ultimate guide spotting them.
Christine Ye
March 13, 2024
Understanding the key differences between a real and fake Rolex is important before spending your hard-earned money on a luxury watch. While some counterfeits are easy to spot, others can be well-designed with the intent to deceive buyers. Rolex is, after all, one of the most counterfeited brands in the world.
Knowing the signs of how to spot a fake Rolex can be particularly helpful when shopping for pre-owned watches. This comprehensive guide outlines several key indicators that distinguish a real Rolex from a fake one. Additionally, comparison photos of a genuine Rolex Submariner 116610LN and a replica are included to provide visual examples of the differences between the quality of the two watches.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Reference Number
How to Research the Rolex Reference Number
If you want to learn how to distinguish a fake Rolex from an authentic one, a good place to start is researching the reference number . The reference number of a Rolex watch, also known as the model number, contains essential information such as the age of the watch, model, material, and bezel type. This information helps you compare the specific watch with its reference number to ensure that everything matches the description.
Rolex reference numbers can be four, five, or six digits, and sometimes include letters. The length of the reference number indicates the general age of the watch. Four-digit reference numbers indicate vintage Rolex watches, while five and six-digit reference numbers indicate discontinued and modern Rolex watches, respectively. In both five and six-digit reference numbers, the last digit indicates the material of the watch. Below is a chart that explains what material the watch is made of according to the last digit of the 5 and 6-digit model numbers:
0 = stainless steel
1 = two-tone stainless steel & rose gold
2 = two-tone stainless steel & platinum
3 = two-tone stainless steel & yellow gold
4 = two-tone stainless steel & white gold
5 = rose gold
6 = platinum
7 = 14k yellow gold
8 = 18k yellow gold
9 = 18k white gold
For instance, a Rolex Submariner reference 116610 denotes a stainless-steel model, while a Rolex Submariner reference 116619 represents a white gold model. Additionally, the second-to-last digit of the reference number indicates the bezel type, although this number is more complex. Certain numbers denote different bezel types for different Rolex watch collections. For example, for a Rolex Sea-Dweller, a 0 as the second-to-last digit means it has a rotating bezel, while for a Rolex Pearlmaster, it signifies a gemstone-set bezel. So, we recommend doing a Google search for your specific model.
Some Rolex reference numbers have alphanumeric codes that include letters at the end. These letters are codes that denote bezel insert colors, primarily for Rolex sports watches. These codes are translations of French descriptors, which determine the letters used as codes for each color. The most common color codes include:
LN (Lunette Noir) = Black bezel
LB (Lunette Bleu) = Blue bezel
LV (Lunette Verte) = Green bezel
BLNR (Bleu/Noir) = Blue and Black bezel
BLRO (Bleu/Rouge) = Blue and Red bezel
CHNR (Chocolat/Noir) = Brown and Black bezel
How to Spot a Fake Rolex with Weight & Materials
To differentiate between a genuine Rolex and a fake one, a helpful tip is to check the weight of the watch. Generally, an authentic Rolex is heavier than a counterfeit one, as it is made of high-quality materials like 904L stainless steel, 18k gold, 950 platinum, or RLX titanium. In contrast, fake Rolexes tend to be made with cheaper materials, making them lightweight and weaker.
Additionally, knowing which material a specific Rolex model is made of can also help spot a fake. For instance, certain models like the Milgauss , Explorer II , and Deepsea have only been produced in stainless steel, and any made with other materials are replicas. Similarly, watches from Rolex’s Day-Date collection are exclusively made with precious metals, specifically gold or platinum, and any made with other materials are likely to be fake.
How to Spot a Fake Rolex Dial
The dial is the centerpiece of any watch and is usually the first thing people notice. On a Rolex watch, the dial is crafted to the highest standards with every detail meticulously placed and in perfect alignment. Watch experts and those familiar with the brand can easily spot any discrepancies, but for those who are less knowledgeable, there are some telltale signs of questionable authenticity to look for on the dial of counterfeit Rolex watches.
The famous Rolex coronet logo is a regal five-point crown that can always be found on the dial of genuine Rolex watches. The crown is typically located at the 12 o’clock position on most classic watches, except for the Day-Date model, where it is located beneath the day window at the 12 o’clock position. For most of Rolex’s professional watches, including the Submariner, Sea-Dweller, GMT-Master, Yacht-Master , Explorer , and Air-King , the crown logo is positioned below the large triangular dial marker at 12 o’clock, except for the Yacht-Master II, where the crown is placed under the countdown indicator on the dial. Therefore, if the watch in question has the crown logo in any other location or is missing the crown logo, it is likely not a genuine Rolex.
Another red flag is any spelling mistakes, crooked or misplaced text, different font style or size, misaligned hour and minute markers, or awkward spacing of features. Rolex watches are exquisitely designed and crafted, with remarkable attention paid to every detail, no matter how small. Therefore, anything that appears to be aesthetically off, even slightly, warrants closer inspection. In the photos below, you can see visible discrepancies on the dials of a real Rolex (left) and a fake Rolex (right).
Side by side comparison of fake and real Rolex Submariner 116610LN dial
The most apparent difference between the hour markers on the two watches is the material used, which is the first noticeable inconsistency. The hour markers on the counterfeit Rolex appear to be of lower quality than those on the authentic Rolex, and they appear to be sticker-like in appearance.
The hour markers on the authentic Rolex have even and symmetrical silver borders surrounding their shapes. On the other hand, the hour markers on the Rolex replica have uneven borders around the shapes of almost every marker. This is especially noticeable on the 4 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 11 o’clock markers.
There is a visible difference in the silver border on the hands of both watches. The border on the replica is notably thinner than the border around the authentic Rolex’s hands, especially on the hour hands of both watches.
One crucial authenticity indicator that is hard to capture in photos is the watch’s movement, as indicated by the seconds hand. Genuine Rolex watches feature a seamless, sweeping motion of the seconds hand, whereas on this fake (and many others), the seconds hand moves in a jerky, ticking-like motion as it travels across the dial.
Rolex incorporates luminescent material, also known as lume, on the dials of some of its watches such as the Submariner to enhance readability and illuminate details in dimly lit conditions, such as during deep diving. This is a distinctive characteristic of Rolex watches, as you can observe it on each hour marker, as well as on the hour, minute, and seconds hands of an authentic Rolex, but it is not present on the replica.
The absence of lume application can also be detected by the watch’s lack of glow in the dark, which is evident in this counterfeit Rolex as it does not exhibit any luminescent properties.
The wording font on the replica is different than on the real Rolex in the following ways:
The lettering on the words “ROLEX” and “ OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE” are less bolded and are noticeably different. For example, the R in “ROLEX” are visibly different between both watches, especially in the upper left corner of the R.
“SUBMARINER”, “1000 ft 300 m ”, “SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER”, and “OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED” are all written in a noticeably different font on the replica as well.
Both the font and the placement of “SWISS MADE” at the very bottom of the dial are also visual discrepancies between both watches. On the real Rolex, the words are underneath the 6 o’clock hour marker, whereas on the replica they are separated by the hour marker and written in a different style font.
The cyclops glass feature at 3 o’clock is supposed to magnify the date number by 2.5x legibility.
The cyclops glass always protrudes above the crystal, like a bubble—it is never flat and never fitted under the crystal.
A way to identify a fake Rolex is by observing its date feature. Rolex watches have an instantaneous date display, meaning the date changes precisely at midnight, not gradually. If a Rolex replica shows an in-between date (mid roll) on the dial, it is a telltale sign of a fake since the real Rolex would change the date immediately. This characteristic might not be noticeable unless you have the watch for more than a day, but ideally, you should have already identified the counterfeit before then.
How to Spot a Fake Rolex with Laser-Etched Coronet (LEC) on Glass
On modern Rolex watches produced after 2001, there is a tiny laser-etched coronet/crown (LEC) on the glass at the 6 o’clock position. This is an additional measure taken by Rolex to stay ahead of counterfeiters and establish another authenticity indicator on their timepieces. The LEC feature is incredibly difficult to replicate because the crown is not simply engraved or etched onto the glass but is instead embedded within it. It is worth noting that while this feature has been incorporated into the entire collection of Rolex watches manufactured from 2001 onwards, the timing of its implementation varies from model to model. Therefore, if searching for this characteristic on a specific Rolex watch, it is advisable to investigate when the LEC feature was added to that particular model.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Laser-Etched Coronet (LEC) on Glass
How to Spot a Fake Rolex Bezel
Rolex watches have various styles, colors, and materials for their bezels. Knowing the basics about Rolex bezels, especially for the watch under scrutiny, can be helpful when checking for authenticity. For instance, fluted bezels on authentic Rolex watches are made of 18k gold. Hence, if you come across a watch with a fluted bezel made of platinum or stainless steel, it is undoubtedly a fake Rolex.
The GMT-Master and GMT-Master II collections have a unique two-tone bezel in different color combinations. Any Rolex watch with a two-tone bezel will have a distinct line dividing the face of the watch horizontally through the numbers 6 and 18 on the bezel markers. If the two colors appear to bleed into each other or the colors split anywhere else on the bezel besides the numbers 6 and 18, then that watch is a fake Rolex.
Additionally, modern Rolex watches made in 2001 and later have a tiny laser-etched coronet/crown (LEC) on the glass at 6 o’clock. This feature is hard to replicate, and its implementation varies across different Rolex models. Therefore, researching when the LEC feature was applied to a specific Rolex model is advisable.
Check out the side-by-side images below to see other significant differences between the real Rolex Submariner and a counterfeit version.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Bezel
There is a significant difference in the width of the bezels between the two watches. The bezel on the fake Rolex is visibly narrower compared to the bezel on the authentic Rolex.
When comparing the bezels of the real Rolex and the counterfeit watch, the font on the numbers is noticeably distinct. Specifically, the numbers on the replica bezel appear bolder and thicker compared to the font on the genuine Rolex bezel. One can easily spot this difference by comparing the numbers 2, 4, and 5 on both bezels.
The lume pip located at the 12 o’clock position on the authentic Rolex bezel is distinguished by a silver lining around it and fits seamlessly within the confines of the triangle marker surrounding it. Conversely, the lume pip on the counterfeit Rolex’s bezel has a larger, thicker border that extends outside the triangle marker’s boundary. Additionally, it lacks lume material, rendering it unable to glow in the dark like the authentic Rolex bezel’s pip.
On the genuine Rolex, the numbers and markers on the bezel are deeply engraved and have a distinct groove on the surface, whereas the bezel on the counterfeit watch is completely smooth with no groove.
A real Rolex watch features engravings on the inner ring of its bezel, also known as the “rehaut”. The word “ROLEX” is engraved five times on both the right and left sides, with a tiny Rolex crown logo at the 12 o’clock position, and the watch’s serial number at 6 o’clock. Older Rolex watches may have these details laser-etched instead of engraved, but Rolex started using engravings in 2005 to make them harder to replicate. If the rehaut of a bezel has no engravings or something else engraved on it, it is likely a fake. In the case of this replica, the rehaut has no engravings or etchings and is simply a reflective, mirror-like surface.
How to Spot a Fake Rolex Case
When searching for indications of a counterfeit Rolex, there are various features on the watch case that reveal its authenticity or lack thereof. As previously mentioned, authentic Rolex timepieces are made of the finest quality materials, which is typically the most apparent indication of whether a Rolex watch is genuine or fake. Replicas are usually crafted from inferior and cheaper materials, which frequently manifests in the overall appearance and texture of the watch. Additionally, specifics about the design and form of specific features on a Rolex watch case can serve as signs of its legitimacy, which are illustrated in the comparison photos below.
The lugs on the genuine Rolex appear thicker and more substantial compared to the skinnier, slender, and tapered lugs on the replica.
The real Rolex has lugs with a brushed metal surface, whereas the lugs on the replica have a polished metal surface. This contrast is noticeable in both the shine and the texture of the surfaces.
The authentic Rolex has its serial number engraved between the lugs when the metal bracelet is removed, which is not the case with the counterfeit watch.
The disparity in the shape of the crown guards is another conspicuous dissimilarity between the two timepieces. The crown guards on the counterfeit watch have a more pointed appearance compared to the genuine Rolex. This difference is evident when viewing the watches side by side or from a profile angle.
The designs on the winding crowns also differ noticeably. On the authentic Rolex, the markings of three small dots under the crown and the Rolex crown itself protrude outwards, whereas on the counterfeit, the markings are much flatter.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Winding Crown
To clarify, it should be noted that certain older steel and yellow gold Rolex watches with the Twinlock waterproof feature, which provides up to 100 meters (300 feet) of water resistance, do have a small line under the crown. However, the Submariner 116610 model being discussed here is equipped with a Triplock winding crown, which ensures water resistance up to 300 meters (1,000 feet). Triplock winding crowns always have three dots below the coronet symbol, regardless of the watch’s material. Therefore, the incorrect marking on the winding crown of this replica watch clearly indicates that it is not authentic. To help identify other fake Rolex watches, the visual guide below shows the markings on winding crowns for different Rolex models made from different materials and with either the Twinlock or Triplock features:
The caseback of a watch may often be overlooked, but it can provide clear indicators of its authenticity. Unlike other brands, Rolex does not equip its timepieces with transparent casebacks. Genuine Rolex watches come with full metal casebacks that are fluted and screwed into the case, providing optimal water resistance. Therefore, if a Rolex watch has a transparent caseback, it is undoubtedly a fake. Of course there are a few exceptions, including the Cellini Prince and the new 2023 anniversary model platinum Daytona.
In general, Rolex watches do not have any logos, text, etchings, or engravings on their casebacks. Therefore, if the watch in question has any such markings on its caseback, it is likely a counterfeit. However, there are a few exceptions, such as if the watch was part of a professional team that participated in a Rolex event and won.
There is a noticeable difference in the quality of finish on the casebacks of both watches. The genuine Rolex has a much better finish with consistent color of the steel and a smooth brushed surface throughout. On the other hand, the counterfeit Rolex has an inconsistent color with mixed colored metal visible on the caseback. This is further emphasized by the deeper grooves of the brush strokes on the surface.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Caseback
It should be noted that there are some exceptions to the general rule outlined above. For instance, certain Rolex watches such as the Milgauss , Deepsea, vintage Sea Dweller , some gold Lady Datejusts , and military Submariners do have specific patented markings on their caseback. However, in the case of the counterfeit watch being discussed, which is a replica of a non-military Rolex Submariner, there should not be any engravings or markings on the caseback. Particularly not markings that reference a different Rolex watch collection, as is the case with this “Submariner” caseback that references the “ Daytona .” Such blatant inconsistencies are among the most reliable ways to spot a fake Rolex. Additionally, when purchasing secondhand watches, it is possible that the previous owner may have had personal engravings made on the watch. In such cases, it is best to have the watch authenticated by a reputable source to ensure that it is not a counterfeit.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Bracelet
How to Spot a Fake Rolex Bracelet
A watch’s bracelet can also have a lot of telltale signs of its authenticity, some that are easier to spot than others. The four styles of bracelets by Rolex are Oyster, Jubilee, President, and Pearlmaster, in addition to different strap options, as seen below:
Upon comparing these two watches, it is apparent that there are a couple of visible differences in the bracelet links of each. In the authentic Rolex, the links are made of brushed metal all around the bracelet, whereas in the fake Rolex, only the outer links are brushed metal and the center links are polished, giving them a shinier appearance.
The difference in the size and width of the bracelet links is another visible distinction between the two watches. The links on the authentic Rolex are thicker and have a more robust appearance, whereas the links on the replica are noticeably thinner and more slender. As a result, the bracelet of the counterfeit watch is narrower compared to the genuine Rolex bracelet.
A visible difference between the two bracelets is the length of the clasp. When compared side by side, the clasp on the genuine Rolex bracelet is significantly longer than the clasp on the counterfeit Rolex.
The position of the Rolex crown on the clasp of each watch is distinct. On the authentic Rolex, the crown is located such that the lowermost part of the crown acts as part of the concealed flip-lock clasp mechanism, serving as a ledge to facilitate opening. On the replica, the entire crown is embedded within the center link, and there is no part of it overhanging the edge as there is on the genuine Rolex. Moreover, the “hidden” flip-lock clasp on the replica is not very concealed and is evidently a separate piece that protrudes further than the rest of the clasp.
The counterfeit Rolex features two buttons, one on each side of the clasp, which serve as a push-release mechanism. In contrast, the authentic Rolex has no buttons since they are unnecessary to open the clasp, which is instead released using the hidden flip-lock clasp.
When you open the clasps of both watches, it is evident that the real Rolex’s clasp has an emblem engraving that consists of the word “ROLEX” in the center and the Rolex crown above it. To the right of the emblem, you can find the words “GENEVA” and “SWISS MADE” engraved in small font. On the other hand, the inside clasp of the replica doesn’t have any engravings.
Rolex Fake vs Real – Backside of the Clasp
It is worth noting that the situation is reversed when it comes to engravings on the back side of the clasps of both watches. Surprisingly, the replica’s clasp can be engraved with the words “STAINLESS STEEL,” while the authentic Rolex’s clasp has no engravings at all. Detecting the fake solely based on this aspect may be a bit more difficult, but the difference between the two can still be discerned.
Trust Your Source
There are numerous tips and indicators for spotting a fake Rolex watch. As the most counterfeited luxury watch brand, the quality of these fake watches has improved to a level previously unseen in the luxury world. This means that counterfeiters have become highly skilled at replicating Rolex timepieces, with some counterfeit watches being almost impossible to detect without the help of highly trained experts. While there are still many obvious tells that can give away a fake Rolex, the increasing amount of sophisticated counterfeits on the market is concerning. It’s important to take the time to carefully inspect any watch in question and have it authenticated by a reputable source, such as a brand authorized dealer, qualified watchmaker, high-end watch shop, or brand service provider.
It’s also crucial to purchase from a genuine, trustworthy, and reputable seller. This is especially important when buying a pre-owned Rolex, as there is more risk involved compared to buying brand new from a retail store. When shopping on online marketplaces, it’s essential to do thorough research on the seller. Look for vetted sources with a solid reputation, and check whether they guarantee the authenticity of their products, offer a warranty with every sale, have a reasonable return policy, and any other information that will increase your trust in the seller. Ultimately, taking these precautions will ensure confidence in your decision to buy an extravagant and expensive watch like a Rolex.

A Rolex watch is a significant investment, so you want to make sure you're getting the real deal. Some counterfeit watches may look pretty convincing, but there are tell-tale signs you can look for that will confirm a Rolex's authenticity. In this article, we'll walk you through all the special characteristics of an authentic Rolex watch so you'll know exactly what to look for. If you're ready to put your Rolex to the test, read on.
Things You Should Know
Listen for a ticking sound. If the watch is ticking, it's not a real Rolex.
Look for an etched Rolex crown logo near the 6 o'clock position and on the dial above the 12 o'clock position to confirm the watch's authenticity.
Check the Rolex box for a certificate of authenticity, warranty paperwork, and a manual.
Soundless movement
The mechanical movement that powers a Rolex is self-winding. You will never have to wind an authentic Rolex watch.
Smooth second hand
Magnified glass
Rolex magnification windows usually magnify the date to 2.5x; the date should take up nearly the entire window. Some good counterfeits may magnify the date a little, but the date won't fill up the entire window.
If the magnification window is imperfect or off center, the watch is fake.
Heavy materials
Metal construction
Rolex uses a proprietary stainless steel alloy for their watches called Oystersteel.
If the back casing looks metal on the outside but has a plastic inner case, the watch isn't genuine.
Some imitations have a clear glass back so you can see the inner workings of the watch. No authentic Rolex model has this feature.
Serial number
Between the opposite set of lugs, you should see "ORIG ROLEX DESIGN" followed by a case reference number.
To look up the date of your watch's manufacture with the serial number, you can use this handy online source .
Rolex crown logo
If the etching is large enough to easily see with the naked eye, you may have a fake on your hands.
The logo above the 12 o'clock position should be made of high-quality metal. The circles at the end of the crown's points will be raised bumps, and the crown's outline has a different metallic sheen than the inside. [6] X Research source
Precise lettering
Etched dial
All watches from Rolex's Oyster Perpetual series (which is one of their most famous lines) bear this etching. [8] X Research source
The only exceptions are from the Cellini series; they have non-standard designs (rectangular faces, etc.) so some of them won't have the dial etching.
Quality packaging
Most Rolex packaging contains a certificate of authenticity, a manual, and 5-year warranty paperwork. [10] X Research source
If your watch is missing any of these things, it may not be genuine.
Rolex actually created the very first waterproof watch case in history. The case, which they named the Oyster case, is still used today.
The Submariner is the only Rolex watch designed for deep water usage — while other Rolexes should be fine in the shower or swimming pool, they may leak under more serious aquatic conditions.

To tell if a Rolex is real or fake, hold it next to your ear and listen to the sound it makes. If it's making a slow ticking noise like cheap watches normally do, it's a sign that it's fake. You can also tell if a Rolex is real or fake by examining the second hand. If the second hand is moving around the watch in a jerky motion instead of moving smoothly at an even pace, the watch is probably fake. Also, if the Rolex feels really lightweight when you hold it, it's a sign that it's not real. For other ways you can tell if a Rolex is real or fake, keep reading! Did this summary help you? Yes No

How to Spot a Fake Rolex? : A Comprehensive Guide
Rolex watches are known worldwide for their luxury, precision, and exceptional craftsmanship. However, with the advancement of the replica watches industry, distinguishing between real and fake Rolexes has become increasingly challenging. This comprehensive guide is about to provide readers with the knowledge and expertise to identify the characteristics that define genuine Rolex watches and spot differences between authentic and replicated versions.
Understanding the Rolex
Rolex watches are known for their superb craftsmanship, minute details, and exact marks, which set them apart from cheap and low-quality imitations. To spot a real Rolex, it’s essential to become familiar with these distinctive features. These unique qualities make it easier to tell a genuine piece apart from a fake one.
Signs Of A Real Rolex : At First Glance
Genuine Rolex watches possess distinct features that differentiate them from counterfeits. From impeccable construction to fine details, specific signs indicate the authenticity of a Rolex watch. Familiarising oneself with these indicators enables the ability to differentiate between genuine and fake Rolex timepieces.
Table of Contents
Distinguishing a real Rolex watch from a fake one requires careful observation. Genuine Rolexes are known for their precision and quality. Here are some key things to look for:
Examine the dial closely. An authentic Rolex should have a flawless logo and clearly defined hour markers.
Watch the second hand. It should move smoothly because of Rolex’s automatic movement mechanism.
Check the date at 3 o’clock. It should be magnified 2.5 times through the cyclops lens.
Flip the watch over to see the engraved Rolex logo on the case back, showing attention to detail.
Genuine Rolexes feel solid and well-crafted because they are made with premium materials.
Pay attention to the second hand’s sweeping motion, also known as the “Rolex tick,” which differs from most fake watches’ ticking motion.
It’s a good idea to seek validation from an authorized Rolex dealer or expert to confirm authenticity. These unique characteristics are what make a genuine Rolex stand out.
You can also check this article for information about the best factories where rolex replica watches are produced.
Examining the Dial
The dial of a Rolex watch showcases meticulous attention to detail, setting genuine Rolex timepieces apart. Characteristics of a genuine Rolex dial include quality printing, correct fonts, precise markers, and hands. It reflects the brand’s commitment to perfection and horological excellence. The materials are exquisite and luminescent features enhance legibility in low light. Owning a Rolex means having a piece of history and craftsmanship, symbolizing luxury and distinction.
The dial of a Rolex watch is another crucial area to scrutinize for authenticity. Rolex dials are known for their exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail. Here’s what to focus on:
1. Spelling and Branding : Check the spelling and alignment of the brand name. Rolex is meticulous about these details; any deviations could indicate a fake.
2. Cyclops Lens : Most Rolex watches, except for the Daytona replicas , have a date window with a Cyclops lens that magnifies the date. Counterfeit Rolex watches often have a magnification less than the genuine 2.5x magnification.
3. Luminosity : Genuine Rolex watches use a unique luminous material called Chromalight, which emits a distinctive blue glow in the dark. Low-quality counterfeit watches may use inferior materials, producing a weaker or different-colored glow.
Type & Engravings
Authenticating a Rolex watch involves checking its reference and serial numbers , the precision of the Rolex crown and logo, and the presence of micro-engravings and security features. The reference number between the lugs serves as a unique identifier for each model, while the serial number identifies individual timepieces. Genuine Rolex watches showcase a finely crafted crown and logo, reflecting their attention to detail. Micro-engravings, often invisible to the naked eye, provide an added layer of security. While hologram stickers were used in the past, Rolex has shifted to other security measures. When you can’t find same quality on low quality Rolex imitations, Swiss Rolex watches can match the quality in terms of engravings and finishings.
Checking the Case & Caseback and Material Finishing
The case and caseback of a Rolex watch offer valuable insights into its authenticity. When examining the case, it’s essential to ensure that Rolex employs only high-quality materials, such as 904L stainless steel, 18k gold, or platinum, depending on the model. With good quality replica factories, it is almost impossible to recognize this difference because they use suitable quality materials for replica Rolex watches . Counterfeit watches often use inferior materials, which can be a telltale sign of a fake. Additionally, genuine Rolex cases undergo meticulous finishing techniques, resulting in a smooth, polished surface without rough edges or flaws. Authentic Rolex watches usually have clean and precise engraving on the case back, with correct fonts and spacing. However, it’s worth noting that some vintage models may have plain case backs without any engravings. Understanding the intricacies of the case and case-back, along with the materials and finishing techniques employed by Rolex, can significantly contribute to authenticating these coveted watches.
Bracelet and Clasp
Authentic Rolex watches are distinguished by their high-quality bracelets, showcasing superior craftsmanship. Examining the bracelet’s construction, weight, flexibility, and finishing can help determine authenticity. Genuine Rolex bracelets feel solid and well-made, with precise link assembly and a substantial weight due to premium materials like 904L stainless steel or solid gold. The bracelets move smoothly and comfortably on the wrist, displaying meticulous finishing with polished surfaces and defined edges. The clasp should have an engraved Rolex crown logo, functioning securely, and flimsiness-free.
Cyclops Lens and Date
The cyclops lens and date display are iconic features that distinguish Rolex watches. Examining the Cyclops lens and date window is paramount when authenticating a Rolex timepiece. The cyclops lens, a magnifying lens positioned above the date window, is intended to magnify the date 2.5 times, enhancing readability. Genuine Rolex watches feature a perfectly aligned cyclops lens, precisely centered over the date, without distortions or irregularities. Additionally, the date window in genuine Rolex watches showcases clear, evenly-spaced numerals and the font used is consistent across all models. Low-quality counterfeit watches may exhibit inconsistencies in font, spacing, or legibility, so for those interested in high-quality fake Submariner, it’s important to dive into our Submariner real vs. fake guide .
Weight and Build Quality
The main difference between a fake Rolex and a real Rolex lies in their weight and build quality. A genuine Rolex timepiece will feel notably heavier due to high-quality materials, such as 904L stainless steel or solid gold, which contribute to its substantial weight. Genuine Rolexes exhibit flawless finishing, smooth articulation between bracelet links, and precise bezel rotation with a firm click. Additionally, with the developing replica Rolex factories , replica Rolex quality is not noticeable. On the other hand, low-quality fake Rolexes may have inferior build quality, with misaligned components, loose parts, and a lack of attention to detail. The weight and build quality are key indicators for differentiating between a genuine Rolex and a counterfeit imitation. This will distinguish more on fake iced-out Rolex watches than real ones due to the heaviness of valued stones.
Inspecting the Movement and Functions
Examining the movement and functions is important when differentiating between a fake Rolex and a real Rolex. Genuine Rolex watches have precise and high-quality movements, often made in-house and tested rigorously for accuracy and reliability. On the other hand, low-quality fake Rolexes typically feature generic and imprecise movements that may not keep accurate time or offer the same level of dependability. But high-quality replica watches can do the same things as genuine Rolexes and boast a range of intricate functions and complications, such as the date with the Cyclops lens, smooth and precise bezel rotation, and exceptional water resistance. In contrast, poor-quality replicas may need more features.
Verifying the Serial and Model Numbers
Each Rolex watch has a unique serial number and model number that can be verified for authenticity. We will guide you through verifying these numbers, cross-referencing them with official Rolex records, and checking for consistency.
By understanding and meticulously examining these aspects, you will develop the expertise to spot the differences between fake and authentic Rolex watches, ensuring that your timepiece is a genuine piece of horological excellence. But good to know, some high quality replica watches have serial numbers on them to maximize experience of a luxury.
The Crown: A Regal Clue
One of the first telltale signs of a fake Rolex is the crown, which is the small, winding knob on the side of the watch. Rolex takes great pride in its attention to detail, which extends to the crown. Here’s what to look for:
1. The Triplock Seal : Genuine Rolex watches have a Triplock seal on the crown. This seal ensures the watch’s water resistance and is a mark of authenticity. Counterfeit Rolex watches often lack this intricate feature.
2. The Engraving : Examine the crown closely for the Rolex crown logo, which should be precisely engraved, not etched or poorly executed. Counterfeit watches may have a blurry or shallow engraving.
Where Are Fake Rolexes Made?
Fake Rolex watches are made in different places worldwide, with some of the most well-known centers in China and Southeast Asia. These fake operations are often very advanced and can accurately copy Rolex’s famous designs.
How Much Are Fake Rolex Watches?
The price of fake Rolex watches can vary greatly depending on how well they are made. Some low-quality replicas can be found for just a few hundred dollars, while high-quality fakes can cost several thousand dollars. It’s important to remember that even the best fake Rolex matches the quality of authentic experience and may cost between $1200 and $2000.
In conclusion, spotting a fake Rolex requires paying close attention to details. By carefully examining the crown, dial, and other important features, you can improve your chances of identifying counterfeit watches.

Rolex Yacht-Master VS Yacht-Master II.
A detailed comparison on these two luxurious Rolex sport watches.
The Yachtmaster II and Yachtmaster 40mm are both great sports watches especially with professional sailors and yacht racers. They both are classy and sporty at the same time. But what are the key differences and what makes these two watches special in their own way? Have a look below at a detailed description of the differences.
Rolex Yacht-Master VS Yacht-Master II
Let's take a look at one of the latest and most spoken about Rolex Yachtmaster watches, the 116655. This watch is a special watch for many reasons. Namely, this is a historical landmark for Rolex since it is the first Rolex watch to ever use a rubber strap. Most people wouldn't bat an eye at the idea of a Rolex with a rubber strap so why the fuss? This is not any typical rubber strap. Rolex has been raving about this new rubber Oysterflex bracelet which is not only very comfortable to wear, it is also hypoallergenic.
The research and development team at Rolex has engineered a bracelet that is as easy to wear as a rubber bracelet but also holds its shape like a metal bracelet. They do this by using nickel-and-titanium inserts inside the band. They also instituted a patented shape on the inside of the bracelet which has a cushioning system built-in to it which allows the bracelet to take the natural shape of a wrist making the Oysterflex possible the most comfortable rubber watch band. An Oysterlock safety clasp keeps the watch from opening and looks stunning in 18ct Everose gold. Everose gold is a patented 18kt pink gold alloy that is unique to Rolex watches and has been used with all their pink gold oyster cases since 2005.
You'll also find a black matte Cerachrom dial which is a hardened ceramic material that is a tough and highly scratch resistant material that has anticorrosive properties and is impervious to discoloration from exposure to Ultra Violet rays. Perfect for spending your days relaxing on the deck of a luxury yacht.
The dial on the Rolex Yacht-Master 116655 with its cyclops date magnifier could be passed as that of a Submariner if it weren't for all the Everose gold used. You can find this material used on the rims of the index hour markers, the Rolex logo, and luminous filled hands. You won't find rose gold on the dial of any watch in the Submariner series (yet?). The combination of black and Everose gold is a real eye-grabber giving this the look of a really luxurious watch.
What's running inside this stunning watch? The Yacht-Master 40mm runs off an automatic Rolex perpetual movement, the Rolex caliber 3135. This 31 jewel movement beats at 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of about 50 hours.
Rolex Yachtmaster II
At a glance, this watch is an impressive piece of eye-candy with a polished case and two-tone rose gold and stainless steel bracelet. The design used vibrant colors from the blue Cerachrom bezel to the rose gold pushers and patented Triplock crown. The white dial is equally full of harmonic colors with blue steel hour, minute and subdial seconds hands and rose gold and red chronograph hands. A rose gold rimmed sub-dial and applied rose gold rimmed index hour markers tie it all together.
A unique feature of the Yachtmaster II is the regatta chronograph and features the world's first mechanical programmable countdown with a memory. You can accurately sync the watch with the starting sequence of a yacht race.
Unlike most bezels which don't operate as a component of the movement, the easy-to-use and bi-directional Ring Command bezel on the Yachtmaster II operates in conjunction with the regatta chronograph as an integral component of the movement. This bezel is the method in which you can synchronize the countdown timer to the start times of a race. Each time you press the button you can adjust the timer by one-minute increments for up to a 10-minute countdown timer. When you adjust the rotating bezel back to its default middle position, it resets the chronograph back to its main function.
This COSC certified Swiss chronometer is the self-winding caliber 4161 automatic movement beats at 28,800 vph and is completely manufactured by Rolex. This movement features the Rolex antimagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring. After receiving a COSC certified chronometer certification, the movement the goes through a thorough in-house chronometric testing once installed into a watch case. Once the watch achieves a precision of -2/+2 seconds per day in the case, it gets a Rolex Superlative Chronometer designation. Even with all these mechanical features, the 31 jewel caliber 4161 movement holds its power for 72 hours.

Rolex Yacht-Master Ultimate Buying Guide
As Rolex’s most diverse sports watch collection, the Yacht-Master is not only available in a wide assortment of case metals and sizes but it has also been paired with various bracelet styles and bezel materials. In less than three decades, the Rolex Yacht-Master collection has been home to dozens of references – some of which have been discontinued – and the nautical-inspired sports watch continues to be a mainstay of the Rolex lineup. There are two distinct models that share almost identical names: the Yacht Master and the Yacht Master II.
While the original Rolex Yacht-Master is an ultra-luxurious take on Rolex’s already popular sports watches, the Rolex Yacht-Master II was purpose-built to time out regattas in competitive sailing. Essentially, the Yacht-Master is the kind of watch you wear while lounging on a boat and a Yacht Master II is what you wear if you’re racing one. Nonetheless, both Rolex watches are incredibly popular, sought-after for their sleek designs and impeccable quality.
With that in mind, if you’re in the market for a Rolex Yacht Master, there are some important things you should know about the model (such as its history, pricing, and features) before you make a decision. Here, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about buying Yacht-Master and Yacht-Master II watches to make the most informed purchase possible. Ready to get started?

Quick Look: Rolex Yacht-Master Timeline
Even though the Yachtmaster collection is one of the newest additions to the Rolex lineup, there has been a great amount of innovation over the years. Additionally, while we didn’t see this watch come to life until the early 1990s, Rolex history shows that they had concepts and ideas of a yacht-themed watch long before it was ever brought to market. 1950’s — Rolex joins the prestigious New York Yacht Club 1966 to 1967 — Sir Francis Chichester becomes the first man to circumnavigate the globe single-handedly and he wore a Rolex Oyster watch 1992 — Rolex introduces the Yacht-Master collection 1994 — Rolex introduces the midsize and ladies’ models 1996 — Rolex introduces the two-tone midsize and ladies’ models 1997 — Rolex releases the Rolesium version (also known as steel and platinum) 2007 — Rolex releases the Yacht-Master II, which is the world’s first watch equipped with a programmable countdown timer and a mechanical memory 2013 — Rolex updates the movement inside the Yacht-Master II collection from the Cal. 4160 to the Cal. 4161. 2019 — Rolex introduces the Yacht-Master 42 to the collection
History of the Rolex Yacht-Master
While we wouldn’t be introduced to the very first Yacht-Master until 1992, Rolex’s history with sailing actually dates back to 1958, the year the Swiss watchmaker partnered with the prestigious New York Yacht Club. By then, Rolex had already garnered a reputation for making great waterproof watches with the invention of their Rolex Oyster case back in 1926. So, the partnership was actually quite a natural next step.
Rolex solidified its relationship with the world of sailing in 1966 when Francis Chichester — one of history’s most exceptional navigators — became the first person to sail around the globe on his yacht, the Gipsy Moth IV, with a Rolex on his wrist. His voyage, which spanned from August 1966 to May 1967, took him 29,600 miles around the world. however, the most impressive part is that he only had a few tools to help him navigate his way, including nautical charts, a sextant, and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual. The Rolex wristwatch chronometer he used was a reliable and steady partner, helping him keep time amidst rough conditions for 226 days at sea.
Despite the brand’s massive success in creating watches that were great for sailing, Rolex continued to hold back its efforts to create a watch specifically for this category. The brand did briefly dabble with the idea in the 1960’s, releasing a prototype dial for the Cosmograph chronograph with the name “Yacht Master” on it, but the idea never took hold. Today, only two known examples of this prototype Daytona Yacht-Master are known to exist — one belonging to Eric Clapton (whose model sold for $125,100 at auction in 2003) and one owned by legendary Rolex collector John Goldberger.
In 1992, we were finally introduced to the modern Yacht Master we know and love today. Its official name, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master, was the brand’s first ultra-luxury sports watch built for the open seas. To make sure that collectors understood the luxury aspect of this new watch, the very first 40mm model was forged entirely out of solid 18k yellow gold and featured a matching gold bi-directional rotating bezel (marked to 60 minutes for timing) alongside a gold Oyster bracelet. Over the next few decades, Rolex has expanded the collection using a variety of materials as well as adding new sizes to the luxury nautical watch collection.
15 years after the first release of the Yachtmaster, Rolex introduced the regatta chronograph Yacht-Master II specifically made for sportsmen to use while regatta racing. To cater specifically to these athletes, Rolex outfitted the watch with important features like a programmable countdown timer (to measure with reliability how much time until the start of the race) and both flyback and fly-forward functionality (for easy synchronization should the race committee have to restart the race sequence). Another key difference is that the Rolex Yacht-Master II is only available in one size, 44mm with an Oyster case and bracelet. However, there are a variety of alloys available.
How Much is a Rolex Yacht-Master?
Because there is such a wide variety of sizes and materials used across the Rolex Yacht-Master collection, the prices tend to vary significantly. For example, you can pick up some of the older or smaller Rolex Yacht-Master models for around $5,000 on the second-hand market. However, newer, larger Yacht-Master models, especially those forged out of precious metals, can sell for well into five-figures.
How much is a Yacht Master II?
Due to its large size, complicated movement, and frequent use of precious metals, the Yacht-Master II is one of the higher-priced Rolex watches you can purchase. In terms of pre-owned prices, a stainless steel reference of the Yacht-Master II starts around $15,000. This may seem steep, considering that this Yacht-Master II is stainless steel and doesn’t feature any diamonds or gems. However, the complexity of the movement is what really makes this watch shine and it is the primary factor behind its high price tag. On the higher end, the yellow gold ref. 116688 costs $43,550 retail and can be bought for around $28,000 on the pre-owned market.

Buying Pre-Owned vs New Yacht-Master Watches
The key difference between buying a pre-owned Rolex Yacht-Master or Yacht-Master II versus a new one is the price. For a retail Rolex model , you will surely pay a premium – especially if you choose one of the precious metal models. On the secondary market, you can get a Yacht-Master for a much lower price, and many collectors find this option a better value for their investment. However, this is still totally dependent on the specifics about the watch which you can get an idea of in the chart above. The price of a pre-owned Yacht-Master will always vary depending on factors like its alloy, the year it was produced, condition, and whether it is a luxury-oriented Yacht-Master or a sporty and purpose-built Yacht-Master II.
Often, many collectors turn to the second-hand market to purchase a Rolex Yacht-Master. Of course, the price is a big factor, but due to the durability and overall build quality, a used Rolex Yacht-Master represents a highly competitive offering. Because these watches are purpose-built to withstand weather and water, they tend to age well even if they have been heavily worn, loved, and used. Another reason that collectors turn to the second-hand market is to get their hands on early models. Since the Yacht-Master has only been around for about 30 years, it is still quite easy to track down some of the early references. This is a great opportunity for collectors who not only love the Yacht-Master as a watch but who also want to make a smart investment for their collection that has great potential to increase in value.
Rolex Yacht-Master References
While the Yacht-Master is one of the newest Rolex models, only first introduced in 1992, the watch has been given a wide variety of upgrades in sizing, alloys, and bezels over the years. Here, this comprehensive list outlines all of the standard-production Yacht-Master references since its initial introduction. This list is also incredibly important as a reference if you are purchasing a Rolex Yacht-Master on the secondary market, as it will serve as a great quick reference for what models have been produced over the years.
116680 = 44mm; stainless steel with Cerachrom bezel 116689 = 44mm; solid 18k white gold with platinum bezel 116688 = 44mm; solid 18k yellow gold with Cerachrom bezel 116681 = 44mm; Rolesor (two-tone steel and Everose gold) with Cerachrom bezel
Everything You Need To Know About The Rolex Yacht-Master Features & Options
Since the first all-gold Yacht-Master was released in 1992, Rolex has expanded the line with a variety of aesthetic details and mechanical upgrades. Here, we’ll explore the different options available on both the retail and secondary market for the Rolex Yacht-Master collection.
Rolex Yacht-Master materials
Today, Rolex no longer makes yellow gold versions of their standard Yacht-Master model, replacing it with Everose (their proprietary rose gold alloy) and 18k white gold. However, the 42mm version is the only white gold version (which was only just introduced at Baselworld 2019) is the only white gold model, as well as the only 42mm model in the collection. – Yellow Gold (discontinued) – Yellow Rolesor two-tone (discontinued) – Everose Gold – Everose Rolesor two-tone – White Gold – Rolesium (Oystersteel and platinum)
Rolex Yacht-Master sizes
Rolex has produced this luxury sports watch in a few different sizes to ensure that everyone has a Yacht-Master that fits their wrist perfectly. However, the smaller sized Yacht-Master models, known as the Lady Yacht-Master watches, have been discontinued in favor of the newer 37mm models. Today, women are reaching for more unisex sizes and designs, which could be what lead to the decision by Rolex. But that doesn’t mean women collectors are strapped for choice — as the current retail models are incredibly luxe and sophisticated for enthusiasts of both sexes. Furthermore, the secondary market is a great place to still get your hands on the smaller sized Midsize and Lady Yacht-Master models, and going pre-owned also opens up the doors to now-discontinued models like the solid yellow gold Yacht-Master watches. – 29mm (discontinued) – 35mm (discontinued) – 37mm – 40mm – 42mm
Rolex Yacht-Master bezel
With the Rolex Yacht-Master, the materials and aesthetics of the bezel depend on the material used for the case. With the Yacht-Master, there are bezels that consist of solid 950 platinum or 18k gold with raised, polished numerals. There are also bezels that are matte black Cerachrom ceramic with raised numerals, which are typically only fitted to the various solid 18k gold Yacht Master references. One of the less common and more flashy Yacht-Master bezels is nicknamed the “gummy bear” and it features rainbow-colored sapphires set around the bezel.
Rolex Yacht-Master dial
The dial of the Yacht-Master is quite archetypal of other Rolex sports watches. To ensure the watch is easily readable, the dial layout of the Yacht-Master features Mercedes-style hands, lume-filled hour markers, and a date window over at 3 o’clock. The dial itself is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that has a Cyclops magnification lens for easier reading of the date. When it comes to the dial color of the Yacht-Master, there are several colors and materials that have been used over the years, like the beautiful blue dial on the ref. 116622 or the luxe sandblasted platinum dial that can be found on the now-discontinued version of this reference.
Rolex Yacht-Master bracelet
The Rolex Yacht-Master only ever features either an Oyster bracelet or an Oysterflex bracelet. The iconic, three-link bracelet Oyster bracelet is a Rolex staple, and it is featured across nearly the brand’s entire collection — from the Datejust to the Daytona to the Yacht-Master. In 2015, Rolex also introduced the now-famous Oysterflex bracelet on the then-new Everose gold Yacht-Master. This rubber bracelet is far more impressive than it appears at first glance. The rubber strap is actually reinforced by an internal flexible metal blade, making it incredibly durable and sporty, while still having this elevated aesthetic that matches the overall luxury feeling of this timepiece.
Rolex Yacht-Master movement
Depending on the size of the Yacht-Master watch, it will have a different movement to fit the case. Additionally, in 2019, Rolex updated the 40 version of the watch to feature the new-generation Cal. 3235 movement. Below are the sizes Rolex has used in its various Yacht-Master watches over the years.
Everything You Need To Know About The Rolex Yacht-Master II Features & Options
Below, we’ll outline the different options available on both the retail and pre-owned market for the Rolex Yacht-Master II collection.
Rolex Yacht-Master II materials
In keeping with the inherently luxurious feel of the Yacht-Master line, the Rolex Yacht-Master II is outfitted in some of the world’s finest alloys. Many collectors love this watch for its combination of precious metals and durable stainless steel — what Rolex calls Rolesor. On the Yacht-Master II, there is the Everose Rolesor which is beloved for the warm pink hue of its 18k Everose gold components. Another great combination is the white gold and platinum Yacht-Master II; however, this is obviously a much more opulent choice at represents the top-of-the-line offering in the Yacht-Master II lineup. Of course, there is also a stainless steel option with a blue ceramic bezel for those who just want sheer practicality and durability. Unlike the standard Yacht-Master, you can get this larger, more complicated timepiece outfitted in solid yellow 18k gold if you really want to go all out. – Yellow Gold – Everose Rolesor two-tone – White Gold and platinum – Oystersteel
Rolex Yacht-Master II sizes
There are a lot of features that separate the Rolex Yacht-Master II from the standard Yacht-Master, and the 44mm size is immediately one of the most noticeable. While the Yacht-Master II case is just 2mm larger than the largest Yacht-Master, this extra-large sizing helps this watch house a more complicated dial and movement.
– 44mm
Rolex Yacht-Master II bezel
Another one of the big differentiators with the Yacht-Master II is that large, beautiful bezel. The bidirectional rotatable ‘Ring Command bezel’ on the Yacht-Master II is specifically designed to help the wearer time out a regatta. Unlike most bezels that operate independently from the internal movement, the ‘Ring Command’ bezel on the Yacht-Master II actually works with the watch’s state-of-the-art movement. Rotating the bezel unlocks access to the programmable countdown timer, enabling quick and easy setting for use during competitions. While the design is incredibly complex, the aesthetics are beautifully simple.
When it comes to the look of the bezel itself, the Yacht-Master II does differ from the standard Yacht-Master. While a two-texture timing bezel defines the original model, the real star of the Rolex Yacht-Master II is that bright, beautiful blue Cerachrom bezel. This blue ceramic bezel is featured on the stainless steel, yellow gold and two-tone Everose Rolesor Yacht-Master II watches; however, the white gold models receive their bezels in sandblasted platinum.
Rolex Yacht-Master II dial
The Rolex Yacht-Master II dial layout is stunning, sophisticated, and totally different than any of the other Rolex dials due to its niche complication. On the dial, you will find a variety of features including the countdown display (which can be programmed anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes) that you can read via the red arrow-tipped hand. You will also notice the central flyback/fly-forward chronograph hand, the center hour and minute hands, and the running seconds sub-dial.
The dial of the Rolex Yacht-Master II is also outfitted with 12 lume-filled hour makers for added readability. Today, the most modern references are outfitted with Rolex’s Chromalight display, which is a luminescent material that emits a blue long-lasting glow.
You will also notice a big difference between the dial of the new generation of Yacht-Master II watches and the first generation, which featured baton-style hands that pointed to square hour markers. It was only in 2017 that Rolex decided to marry the style of the Yacht-Master II with the brand’s famous Mercedes-style hands. Rolex also updated the hour markers to feature a triangular hour marker at 12 and a rectangular hour marker at 6, rather than just square-shaped markers all the way around.
Rolex Yacht-Master II bracelet
Unlike the Yacht-Master which has two bracelets, the Rolex Yacht-Master II is only available with an Oyster bracelet. The sporty, durable 3-piece link bracelet is a staple for the brand’s sports watches, which makes it a perfect choice for this professional regatta watch. Rolex has also outfitted this Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock folding clasp, built specifically to prevent the wearer from losing the watch due to accidental opening. This is a great feature for this model, which is purpose-built to be used during tough racing conditions.
Rolex Yacht-Master II movement
It’s clear that the Rolex Yacht-Master II is an incredible looking timepiece. But, the most impressive part of this watch is by far its movement. When the watch was first released, the Yacht-Master II was outfitted with the brand’s Caliber 4160, with Caliber 4161 making its debut a few years later in 2013.
The Rolex Yacht-Master II features one of the brand’s most complicated in-house movements to date — the self-winding mechanical chronograph, caliber 4160/4161. This movement boasts high-tech features like a countdown timer with both flyback and fly-forward functionality and a mechanical memory with on-the-fly chronograph synchronization, making it incredibly sophisticated. Additionally, the bezel (aka the Ring Command Bezel) is actually connected to the mechanism itself, allowing the wearer to adjust and set the countdown feature quickly and easily on the go. Rolex says it took its engineers some 35,000 hours of development to create this mechanism — and we think it was well worth it. – Ref. 116689 : Caliber 4160; Caliber 4161 – Ref. 116688 : Caliber 4160; Caliber 4161 – Ref. 116681 : Caliber 4160; Caliber 4161 – Ref. 116680 : Caliber 4161
Celebrities Who Wear the Rolex Yacht-Master
It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that one of Rolex’s most bold and luxurious watches is popular among the world’s most famous celebrities. One of the most well-known A-listers to sport the Yacht-Master is Mark Wahlberg, who is already a really big Rolex fan. We’ve seen him out and about in a solid 18k yellow gold Rolex Yacht-Master II, which totally pops against that blue ceramic bezel. Mark has no trouble making a statement with his watches, and that’s clear with this stunning timepiece.
Tennis champion Roger Federer also famously sports the top-of-the-line 18k white gold and platinum Yacht-Master II, while comedian and host Ellen DeGeneres is often spotted wearing her the 18k Everose gold Yacht-Master 40 with a black Cerachrom bezel and a black Oysterflex bracelet. Other celebrities that have been seen wearing the Yacht-Master include the following list of names, although there are many other stars who proudly have a Rolex Yacht-Master in their collections. – Russell Crowe – Lydia Ko – Sir Robin Knox-Johnston – Mark Wahlberg – Bruce Willis – Connor McGregor – Emeril Lagasse – David Beckham – Guy Fieri – Steven Gerrard – A$AP Rocky – Billy Joe Saunders – Flo Rida – Drake – Manny Pacquiao – Ellen DeGeneres – Ed Sheeran
How to Style The Rolex Yacht-Master
The Yacht-Master was an instant classic when it was introduced by Rolex, which means that it is incredibly easy to work it into your wardrobe. What we love so much about this watch collection — whether we’re talking about the Yacht-Master or the Yacht-Master II — is that it has this incredible balance of luxury and sports-oriented performance. Being able to dress this watch both up and down is what makes the Rolex Yacht-Master so much fun to wear. Here are just three classic ways you can wear this watch.
Yacht-Master with Bracelets
Ladies love this watch for its luxe finishing and superior durability. What woman doesn’t want a watch they can wear to drinks, diving, or lounging in the cabana? Because of that, we love pairing a beautiful two-tone Rolex Yacht-Master with bangles and bracelets that match the gold components on the watch. For example, we love the pairing of the 29mm Lady Yacht Master ref. 169623 with a gold Cartier love bracelet bangle and a linked chain. If you’re feeling really bold, you might as well go all out and pair your gold bracelets with a solid, 18k yellow gold Yacht-Master. Fair warning: you’re going to not be able to stop staring at your wrist. Chances are, no one else will be able to either.
Dressing Up With The Matte Black ref. 268655
We love this unisex 37mm timepiece because it works equally well on both men and women’s wrists. What makes this watch so special is the rubber Oysterflex strap watch that allows it to be sporty and durable. Matching that bracelet with the matte black bezel and dial really elevates the entire watch, which looks handsome and luxurious with the warm 18k Everose gold case. So when evening comes, head to the bar for sundowners wearing this ref. 268655. Of course, it will look good with a dark jacket. But, this watch will really pop if you pair it with a warm-colored shirt that accentuates the natural Everose hue. Finish the outfit off with dark wash jeans and you’ve mastered the elegant-meets-accessible look that defines this modern luxury watch.
Casual Elegance with the Yacht Master II
The two-tone Everose Rolesor Yacht-Master II is the ultimate luxury sports watch. You have luxury elements like the ceramic Cerachrom blue bezel and 18k Everose gold alongside durable Oystersteel and one of Rolex’s most complicated mechanisms to date. Because of this watch’s exclusivity, durability, water resistance, and functionality, there really isn’t a better choice for spending time on the high seas. And while this watch was built to time out a regatta, it is going to look just as good on your wrist while you lounge, swim, and play. We suggest pairing your Two-Tone Everose Rolesor’s blue bezel with a matching blue suit. Alternatively, you can pair it with a white and blue pinstripe shirt, rolling up the sleeves and unbuttoning the top few buttons to make your look feel more casual.
Frequently Asked Questions About The Rolex Yacht-Master
What is the difference between the yacht master and the yacht master ii.
The standard Rolex Yacht-Master is a luxury-oriented sport watch that displays the time and date. The Yacht-Master II joined the Rolex lineup in 2007 and offers never before seen functionality thanks to its regatta timer. Powered by the Calibre 4161 — one of the most complicated Rolex movements ever made (second only to the annual calendar found in the Sky-Dweller — the Yacht-Master II has a patented mechanical memory and on-the-fly-synchronization used for the regatta timer. Additionally, the bezel is different on the Yacht-Master II because it controls part of the movement inside the case rather than just working as an external mechanism to help track elapsed time. The Rolex Yacht-Master II also has an entirely different aesthetic and features a larger 44m case with chronograph pushers on either side of the winding crown.
Is a Rolex Yacht Master a good investment?
Yes. The Rolex Yacht-Master is a good investment for collectors for two main reasons. For one, these watches have historically held great value because of their uniqueness and sportiness; however, at the present time, they remain somewhat undervalued compared to their siblings in the Rolex catalog. Consequently, they offer significant potential for appreciation in the future. Secondly, the Rolex Yacht-Master is a luxury watch and is often outfitted in precious metals. These precious metals inherently allow it to hold great value as the years go on, and its premium construction guarantees that it will always be worth something.
What was the Rolex Yacht-Master built to do?
The Rolex Yacht-Master was first created as a luxury sports watch, whereas the Yacht-Master II was built as a professional regatta timer with a luxury flare. Comparatively, the Yacht-Master can time events up to 60 minutes with its rotating bezel and the Yacht-Master II is outfitted with a countdown timer with flyback or fly-forward functionality to use when timing out a regatta race.
How do you use the Yachtmaster II?
While the Yacht-Master II looks quite complicated, Rolex has made sure that using it is actually quite intuitive. After setting the adjustable countdown timer to your desired setting, you start the time. Press the top button to start the countdown timer, then pressing the top button a second time will stop the timer. However, by pressing the bottom button while the chronograph is running, that will adjust the timer forwards or backward to the nearest minute — allowing it to be perfectly synchronized to the official race clock.
How can I spot a fake Rolex Yacht Master?
As with any Rolex watch, the clues are in the details. When it comes to the Yacht-Master, you’re going to want to look at details like the adjustable countdown timer, which is incredibly complicated, making it almost impossible for fake counterfeit watches to replicate. Additionally, Yacht-Master models are luxury sports watches crafted from the world’s best materials and to the highest possible standards. If you notice any defects like dial printing or finishing looks less than perfect, there is a good chance that you are dealing with a fake Rolex Yacht-Master.

Rolex Yacht-Master Real vs. Fake Guide 2024: How Can I Tell If It Is Real?
Rolex is well-known for creating watches for professionals. Divers have the Submariner, racecar drivers have the Daytona, and even more niched experts like speleologists have the Explorer. And Yacht-Master was launched in 1992, it was a luxurious, nautically-themed watch; but it evolved over the years to be a professional regatta watch. Today, its elegant design has fans beyond yacht clubs and regatta courses.
But The Yacht-Master is expensive that not all people can afford to own. This is why counterfeit Rolexes are everywhere. Sometimes, they are offered at prices that are too good to be true and gullible consumers fall into the trap of purchasing a Rolex watch replica. These days, some fakes are so good that they must be partially disassembled before they can be identified as counterfeit and can fool even the most well-versed Rolex aficionado or expert. This article will teach you how to identify the authenticity of The Yacht-Master from several aspects. Knowing how to spot a fake Rolex watch will save you from paying for a counterfeit watch.

About Rolex Yacht-Master
Inspired by the rich heritage that has bound Rolex to the world of yachting since the 1950s, the Yacht-Master and Yacht-Master II models embody the brand’s nautical spirit. The Yacht-Master brilliantly blends function and seafaring style. Presented in 2007, the Yacht-Master II is a regatta chronograph built for yachting competitions.
The Yacht-Master is easily recognizable for its bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel. This characteristic and functional bezel – which enables the wearer to read time intervals, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – plays a full part in creating the unique visual identity of the watch.
The Yacht-Master II is a unique regatta chronograph dedicated to both yachting enthusiasts and experienced sailors. It features a countdown function with a mechanical memory programmable from 1 to 10 minutes which can be synchronized on the fly – a function that responds to the need for precise timing during the crucial starting sequence of a regatta.

Rolex Yacht-Master Real vs. Fake
1. serial numbers.
After 2009 Rolex decided to use a string of random numbers to create its serial numbers. You can check the authenticity of a Rolex by checking its serial number. Every Rolex has a serial number on it, and you can verify the authenticity of Rolex serial numbers through the manufacturer.
A Rolex serial number is always engraved deeply into the metal, while the fake watches have serial numbers that may be simply etched with acid. The placement of the serial number is also a sign of whether it is a true Rolex or not. Look for the serial number on the 6 o’clock side where the band connects to the lug. On a new authentic Rolex watch, the serial number is seen on the inner bezel.
2. Caseback Engravings
For Rolexes manufactured before 2007, a hologram of the crown logo is found on the caseback. Versions of Rolex manufactured after 2007 should not feature the logo. Most casebacks of newer versions are plain polished steel.
With only a few exceptions, the caseback of authentic Rolex watches are usually kept clear of engravings and special features. To determine how to spot a fake Rolex Yacht-Master watch, you can examine the caseback. Some counterfeit watches have a clear back to show off the gears in an attempt to look like an authentic used Rolex. Actual authentic watches of the Rolex brand rarely have a clear back, as this was only used in a few vintage models. Similarly, some counterfeit watches have engravings with Rolex branding in an attempt to look like an authentic Rolex. If you want to figure out how to know if a Rolex is authentic, make sure that the back of the watch is clear.
3. Self-Winding And Mechanical Movements
Rolex craftsmanship is of high quality, and often unmatched. Rolex creates top of the line precision watch components, while fake Rolexes tend to use lower-grade components that lack the Rolex stamp on them.
The movement must have an engraved “movement model, Rolex logo etc” on it. The location of the engraving on the Rolex movement differs from one model to another. Unfortunately, you can’t usually tell the difference in components unless you open the watch up and view the clockwork inside.
Luckily, there is one surefire way to identify cheaper components without opening up the watch: check the movement of the hands. A genuine Rolex has smooth movement of its watch hands, while a fake often has jerky movements that mirror other watch types. The precision of a Rolex is especially important for watches like the Yacht Master, which are used for racing purposes, so checking the movement of the hands is essential if you want to know how to spot a fake Rolex Yacht Master.
Movements of Rolex Yacht-Master

4. Font Consistency
An authentic Rolex watch remains consistent in its crafting across the board. This means that the font type on all the text that appears on the watch should look the same. When you consider buying a Rolex Rolex Yacht-Master, how to spot a fake involves taking note of the consistency of the watch’s design. If you look at pictures of fake Rolexes, you will probably notice that different parts of the watch have slightly different fonts or spacing between different words. One of the best methods in how to know a genuine Rolex watch is to have a good eye for consistency and sharp attention to detail.
5. Date Appears Bigger
The cyclops glass feature at 3 o’clock is supposed to magnify the date number by 2.5x legibility. The cyclops glass always protrudes above the crystal, like a bubble—it is never flat and never fitted under the crystal. Run a finger over the watch crystal and feel the lens. You should feel a bump on the convex lens across the date. A flat Cyclops means that the Rolex watch is a fake. Another way to test it is to hold the watch sideways and look at the date without the Cyclops. If the size of the date appears the same, then it’s not a genuine Rolex watch.
A other way to identify a fake Rolex is by observing its date feature.
If you find yourself wondering whether the font or magnification on a watch looks right, take it to a seller or expert who you trust.
6. Weigh The Watch
A genuine Rolex watch is always heavier than a knockoff. Before purchasing a watch, do some quick research on Google and check for the actual weight of the Rolex model you want to purchase. Then, weigh the item you are looking at. If it does not weigh the same amount as what you have researched, then it is surely a fake watch.
7. Water Resistance
Although Rolex Submariner timepieces (along with the Sea-Dweller collection) are the only watches designed for deep-sea diving, all models like the Rolex Yacht-Master are water-resistant and perfectly sealed. Once you have the watch dip it in a cup of water for a few seconds and take it out. Before doing this, PLEASE be sure that the crown is securely tightened/screwed in. If there is any leaking of water into the watch on the dial or anything the watch is definitely a fake. All Rolex watches are 100% watertight and many counterfeit watches are not. However, it should be noted that a genuine Rolex watch that is in need of service or repairs may not be water resistant, so this is not a guaranteed way to identify a fake, and should only be done on modern Rolex watches, not vintage models or those that are visibly damaged.
8. Pip or Pearl
Knowing how to spot a fake Rolex prevents you from being scammed. Skip the pawn shop and second hand stores and always buy from an official Rolex dealer to guarantee that the products being sold are legitimate, even on pre owned Rolex watches. If the price is too good to be true, that tells you the watch is not the real deal. Rolex timepieces, after all, is made with high-quality materials and craftsmanship like no other, which explains its hefty price tag.
In other words, the best way to figure out how to tell an authentic Rolex from a fake one is to consult a seller that you know to be trustworthy. This seller probably deals in authentic Rolexes and can help guide you on where to buy authentic Rolex watches if you can’t find what you need with that individual. The seller can also examine any Rolex watch you bring in to check for signs of a fake. To determine whether a particular seller is trustworthy, check customer reviews and examine the watches offered by that seller. In some cases, a seller might be able to show you the exact differences between a real vs. fake Rolex.
Features of Rolex Yacht-Master
Reviews: For those at sea, staying the course is a constant challenge. Defying the laws of logic, bearings can be lost suddenly in difficult conditions, thus requiring adaptability and the capacity to react quickly. Since 1992, the Yacht-Master – equipped with a bidirectional rotatable bezel – has become the established watch of masterful sailors who know how to react in order to keep their heading, in any situation. Technical and elegant, the Yacht-Master is a reliable nautical instrument.
1. Exceptional legibility
Like all Rolex Professional watches, the Yacht-Master offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, even in the dark thanks to its Chromalight display. The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangle, circle, rectangle – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.
2. Rolesium
The Yacht-Master 37 and Yacht-Master 40 are the only two models in the Rolex catalogue offered in Rolesium versions: the bezel is fashioned from platinum while the rest of the watch is in Oystersteel. These versions also harbour a turquoise- or red-lacquer seconds hand echoing the colour of the Yacht-Master inscription on the dial.
3. 18 ct Everose gold
This exclusive 18 ct pink gold alloy – created and cast by Rolex – features a slightly stronger colour than traditional pink gold and exhibits subtle cool tones. Its sophisticated and contemporary colour resonates particularly well on watches that combine gold and Oystersteel, known as Rolesor versions (a combination of Oystersteel and gold).
4. Cerachrom Bezel Insert
The matt black monobloc Cerachrom bezel insert of the Yacht-Master is made of an extremely hard, virtually scratchproof ceramic whose colour is unaffected by ultraviolet rays, seawater or water that is chlorinated. In addition, thanks to its chemical composition, the high-tech ceramic is inert and cannot corrode. The numerals and inscriptions are moulded in the ceramic and coloured with gold or platinum using a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process.

Features of Rolex Yacht-Master II
Reviews: As a chronograph with a bold nautical character, the Yacht Master II occupies a singular place in the Rolex roster of Professional watches. It features an unprecedented mechanical function: a countdown that can be programmed and synchronized on the fly to adjust and re-adjust the watch to regatta start times. An essential tool for any coxswain and their decision-making process, as it allows them to take the best start towards victory.
As for any voyage at sea, time management is vital in a regatta. At its launch in 2007, the Yacht-Master II features an unprecedented mechanical function: a programmable countdown with mechanical memory, synchronizable on the fly. A function that responds ideally to the need for precise timing during the crucial starting sequence of a regatta.
This flexibility is one of the major assets of the Yacht-Master II; its development was a considerable technological challenge. The programming can be mechanically memorized, which makes it possible to start a new countdown without having to reprogramme the watch, for example in the next leg or a subsequent regatta with identical countdown duration.
Furthermore, once the watch’s countdown is launched, it can be synchronized on the fly to match the official countdown via the ‘fly-back’ reset function of the seconds hand and adjustment of the countdown minute hand to the nearest minute.
1. Ring Command System
Rolex achieved perfection when it turned its attention to redefining the purpose and functionality of the bezel. Typically, a bezel operates independently from the internal mechanism; however, the Ring Command bezel in the Yacht-Master II regatta chronograph operates in conjunction with it.
As a mechanical component linked to the movement, the bezel literally acts as the key to the programmable countdown, allowing it to be set and synchronised to the sequence of race start times. Complex in design, but simple in use, it is functionally beautiful.
The countdown’s sophisticated functions were designed to be easily set and operated. The preliminary programming of up to 10 minutes is accessed, and then locked, via the rotatable bezel thanks to Ring Command, a patented system of interaction between the bezel, the winding crown and the movement, developed by Rolex. A technical feat made possible by the brand’s in-house mastery of the entire watch design and manufacturing process, from the case to the movement.
2. A Distinctive Aesthetic
The Yacht-Master II is equipped with a new dial, and new hands that are characteristic of Rolex Professional models, enhancing legibility and sharpening its aesthetic appeal. The dial now features a triangular hour marker at 12 o’clock and a rectangular hour marker at 6 o’clock for more intuitive reading of the watch. A luminescent disc on the hour hand clearly distinguishes it from the minute hand.
The Yacht-Master II’s countdown can be programmed for a duration of between 1 and 10 minutes. The programming is memorized by the mechanism so that at a reset it returns to the previous setting. Once launched, the countdown can be synchronized on the fly to match the official race countdown.
On the right-hand side of the middle case, the Yacht-Master II sports two countdown pushers, specially designed to suggest winches, the manual winding gear on a sail boat. The Yacht-Master II is always fitted on an Oyster bracelet with a Oysterlock safety clasp, equipped with an Easylink comfort extension link.
The Yacht-Master II measures 44 mm in diameter, its large size contributing to the optimal legibility of the dial in all conditions.
3. Cerachrom Bezel Insert
The blue monobloc Cerachrom bezel insert of the Yacht-Master II is made of an extremely hard, virtually scratchproof ceramic whose colour is unaffected by ultraviolet rays, seawater or water that is chlorinated. In addition, thanks to its chemical composition, the high-tech ceramic is inert and cannot corrode. The numerals and inscriptions are moulded in the ceramic and coloured with gold or platinum using a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process.
4. Oyster Bracelet
The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex. This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.
5. Calibre 4161 Superlative Movement
The Yacht-Master II is equipped with calibre 4161, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Its architecture, manufacturing quality and innovative features make it exceptionally precise and reliable. This abundance of Rolex technology includes a patented function – a programmable countdown with a mechanical memory – and comprises some 360 components. Some of them are made by UV-LiGA, a micromanufacturing technology entirely mastered in-house by Rolex.
Is Yacht-Master A Good Investment?

Real or Fake Rolex Yachtmaster 116622 PLSO?
Add to quote
Hi everybody, I've encountered a seller who claims to have an authentic Yachtmaster 116622 PLSO with a broken bracelet. Allegedly, her brother broke it while trying to fit it for his wrist. Attached are photos she sent me. There's a confirmed scratch on the crystal, which makes me wonder is this is real, since I thought the crystal was supposed to be sapphire. Since I'm not a watch expert by any means, I'd love help from the watchuseek community in figuring out if this is real or not! Thanks!

I'd snap that one up a bit quick... but don't pay anymore than 1 cent!!!!
Haha thanks for the quick reply!

[VIDEO] Real vs. Fake: Rolex GMT-Master II
Buyer beware: fake watches are getting better every year. And they’re getting more prolific—a quick Google search will bring up hundreds of internet retailers hawking their replica goods.
But let us be clear—we don’t say that as a good thing. While the producers of fake watches are getting more skilled in copying the look of a luxury watch, they still fall well short in terms of actual quality. And to illustrate just that, we had our watchmakers open up some fake watches and compare them to their real counterparts. What they found? While at first glance, a fake watch passes pretty well, the devil is really in the details.
First up? A Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 116710.
The First Glance
The first step is checking the dial and markers, two of the most major aesthetic aspects of the watch. Then comes the case—lower-quality steel is evident on the fake. How do you tell? It’d be more difficult to discern without a real watch to compare against, but it’s all in the feel. And, the polishing and lines of the case actually make more of a difference than you’d think. Rolex watches have a distinct line and polish that’s difficult to mass-produce, so be on the look-out for sharper corners and duller finishing.
Likewise, the rotating bezel is a distinct feature on a GMT-Master, one that Rolex invented and perfected. If you encounter more resistance when you try to work the bezel, chances are that it’s not an authentic Rolex click-system.
The Insides
The particular fake watch we got our hands on did have an authentic Swiss movement in it (but obviously not the correct one for the GMT-Master II), but generally, the movement inside a fake watch will be a dead giveaway. That means it will most likely be a Chinese-manufactured replica or an authentic Swiss-manufactured movement that’s not supposed to be there. Either way, if it’s not a genuine Rolex movement , it’s a no-go.
So what’s the lesson? When it comes to fake watches, sometimes its really hard to tell. Sure, there are some very obvious mistakes, like the wrong placement of the Rolex serial number or the incorrect stack of the hands. But sometimes you come across a really skilled replica manufacturer that can fool even the biggest watch nerd. That’s why you trust the experts to tell you for sure.

Real Vs Fake: Rolex GMT-Master II "Pepsi"
Replicas of coveted Rolex models, such as the GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLRO , are getting better by the year. Our watchmaker reveals key inaccuracies to watch out for.
The Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLRO “Pepsi” is a highly coveted luxury watch that has been replicated by fake watch manufacturers for decades – with increased accuracy. During an authentication process conducted by our in-house watchmaker, Peter Glomb, which included the dial, crystal, case thickness, weight, and movement inspection, we discovered some inaccuracies you should be mindful of:
If you watch our videos, you’ll know that the Cerachrom material they use for Pepsi differs from the one they use for other bezel inserts. When you shine the UV light at the blue portion of the bezel on the Pepsi, it should glow red, and as you can see here, although the amount of glow is a little bit different just like the loom plots on the dial and the end, there are some slight differences. But, if you take a UV light and zap that blue part of the bezel, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference unless you have the authentic one. The authentic Pepsi also sounds different – it’s smooth and clicks into place, and the fake one is crunchy and sounds like something is grinding underneath. You can see that the teeth on the bezel that are milled into the side to give you grip are extremely similar under 50 times magnification, save for a slight difference in the size of each radius.
The Crystal
The fake watch has a slightly taller crystal – it’s either the gasket or the crystal itself that’s thicker. You can also feel a very clear bevel on the edge of the crystal, so it’s not quite as sharp as the Rolex. And, of course on every Rolex crystal, there’s a laser-etched crown at 6 o’clock. Many years ago, they already started etching this into fake crystals, so that’s not a sign of a fake anymore. The shape of that crystal, as you can see, is slightly different but unless you’re very well-versed with what the crown has looked like over the years (it does change and we do take note of when they change it), you can see that immediately with magnification this crown is not consistent with an authentic crown – this particular watch should be 2024, and the 2024 laser crown has two ovals in the center instead of one, which is a recent change. There’s also a cyclops on this particular watch because it has a date and it magnifies the date 2.5 times on the authentic watch. You can spot that the magnification on the fake one is different straight away and that the date is much too far away from the dial, which is a red flag.
Case and Bracelet
We always measure the thickness of the watch. There is a Delta even within the authentic watches that range from 0.1 to 0.2 of the millimeter, and this fake Pepsi is 0.4 of a millimeter thicker than the authentic one. The finishing of the case and the bracelet, however, seems authentic – they’re using 904L steel, so its weight is also very similar to the authentic Pepsi. There’s also a slightly larger gap between the end link and the first link both on the 12 and 6 o’clock side, so they’re not producing this oyster bracelet with the same tolerances as Rolex does. The clasp on the bracelet also doesn’t have a glide lock, but an easy link instead.
The Movement
These guys are using an entirely cloned 3200 Caliber. Its surface finish is pretty similar to the authentic movement. However, these fake manufacturers buy blank movements (sometimes referred to as Ébauche movements) and put the desired logos on top. If you look at the screw heads, they’re all damaged because they’re not made from carbon steel (which is used for all Rolex pinions and screw components). We also looked at the Parachrom Bleu hairspring and the inertia weights, which will determine the watch’s frequency and timing results. While the former is consistent with the authentic Pepsi at 28,800 Hz, the timing results showed the Delta value close to 15 (the Delta of the authentic one is closer to 5), plus the average rate of the fake watch is nowhere near zero.
Box and Papers
There’s not much information on the Internet about the authentication of the box and papers, but we look at every accessory that comes with the watch. First, we do a smell test similar to how one might do a smell test with a sneaker because all Rolex boxes smell the same. This one doesn’t even come close, because it's either poor-quality leather or not leather at all. The printing of the green Rolex moniker inside is way too dark. Inside the authentic Rolex box, you’ll find all two booklets, a leather pouch for your warranty card, a white tag, and a green chronometer tag. The white tag is the only thing that determines the color the dial comes with. This particular fake did not come with a warranty, but it came with everything else. The new card has NFC and you can just stick your phone up to it and it’ll pull up the Rolex website. The real card also utilizes a special kind of 3D printing, which is virtually impossible to imitate.

Yep, fake. I'm not that good at spotting fake Rolexes, but one huge, dead giveaway is the 'cyclops' date magnifier. If it's not dead nut center with the date window, or very, very close, it's a fake. Most, if not, all fake Rolexes with a date magnifier (like yours, I'm sorry to say) get this wrong.
