Award-Winning Cruises to Croatia

Sail to fortified towns and villages along the beautiful Dalmatian Coast on a cruise to Croatia with Celebrity. Croatia offers visitors forested shorelines and pristine beaches, magnificent architecture, and centuries of history and culture to uncover.  Sip coffee beside Venetian-era palaces, and learn about the heritage of the islands scattered along Croatia’s coastline as you uncover the food, culture, and Mediterranean lifestyle on a cruise.

Croatia cruises take you to the picturesque city of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its impressive architecture and fascinating history. Explore the city's medieval ramparts before an evening stroll along the Stradun, Dubrovnik's elegant main boulevard. Discover the port of Split, dominated by the 4th century Diocletian Palace, and Zadar, a smaller port known for its Old Town and carefully preserved Roman and Venetian ruins. Embark on an adventure to remember on a Mediterranean cruise with Celebrity Cruises

Croatia Cruise Highlights

Wine & vineyards.

The up-and-coming wine regions of Croatia produce full-bodied reds and dry, citrusy whites. Don’t miss trying the Plavac Mali while in Croatia, which is usually poured if you join a wine tasting at a local winery. Croatian wine is best enjoyed in a sunlit square, accompanied by a platter of air-dried meat and local cheese, a local culinary tradition.

Architecture

Waves of invasions and settlers have shaped Croatia’s impressive architecture, which bears influences from Roman, Venetian and Ottoman eras. In Dubrovnik, stroll the 16th-century ramparts, visit the gothic Rector’s Palace, and climb to the top of the chunky Fort Lovrijenac. Split is famed for the 4th century Diocletian Palace, essentially a walled town. In Zadar, soak up the Venetian buildings and Roman ruins of the enchanting Old Town.

Croatia is one of the most popular beach destinations in Europe. One of its most beautiful areas of coastline is the Dubrovnik Riviera, where you’ll find smooth pebbled beaches and sparkling teal water against the backdrop of lush green hills. The mainly stony beaches mean the sea is crystal-clear, perfect for snorkeling. The coast is also dotted with islands, reachable by ferry as a day trip; from Dubrovnik, the forested Elephati Islands are the perfect place to cool off.

Croatia Cruises

Unexplored nature and beautifully preserved harbour towns.

Croatia is a surprisingly varied country offering visitors a combination of history and rugged, natural beauty. The MSC Croatia cruise 2024 and 2025 season keeps guests constantly engaged with visits to perfectly preserved Roman and medieval monuments, picturesque hamlets, beaches with the clearest water, and natural parks with impressive waterfalls and green lakes — in short, all the ingredients for a dream holiday.   Choose a Croatia Cruise and you will discover all the intrinsic beauty that this country has to offer, starting with Dubrovnik , the city whose beauty has earned it the title “Pearl of the Adriatic”. What’s more, Dubrovnik’s old town centre is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s not surprising that Irish writer George Bernard Shaw said about this gem, “If you want to see a paradise on earth, come to Dubrovnik.”  No less fascinating is Split , the main town of Dalmatia. In 305 AD this town won the heart of the Roman emperor Diocletian, who decided to build a residence where he would spend the rest of his life. Diocletian’s Palace is also listed as a UNESCO heritage site. And those who love breath-taking beaches will adore Zadar , which is renowned for its wonderfully limpid sea.  Croatia also boasts a host of natural parks in which to admire amazing landscapes. With treks accessible to all ages, you can take the opportunity to connect with nature in Plitvice Lakes Natural Park, situated on the mountain complex of Lička Plješivica. Here, amidst forests, lakes and waterfalls, visitors can enjoy excursions on foot, by bike, by boat, or by tour train.  Available on many of our Mediterranean packages, an unforgettable holiday aboard an MSC Croatia cruise is only clicks away.

1 Dead, 6 Missing—Including Tech Tycoon Mike Lynch—After Yacht Sinks Off Sicily

T wo Americans, four Britons, and a Canadian are missing or believed dead after a luxury yacht sank Monday near the coast of Sicily, Italy.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch is among the missing and the boat belonged to his family, a source familiar with the matter confirmed with TIME. His wife, Angela Bacares, was confirmed to be among those rescued.

In June, Lynch was found not-guilty of fraud after a nearly 13-year-long saga. where he faced the possibility of up to 25 years in prison. Lynch, who sold his company Autonomy to Hewlett Packard (HP) for $11.1 billion in 2011, was accused of serious accounting improprieties by HP after the acquisition. HP executives went on to write down $8.8 billion of the company’s value and accused Lynch of fraud. Lynch faced legal battles for over a decade before being acquitted by a California jury in June.

“I am looking forward to returning to the U.K. and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field,” he said when he was acquitted earlier this summer, per the Guardian.

So far, one unidentified body has been found, but the six other people remain unaccounted for, according to authorities. The accident occurred during a storm on Monday, Italian Coast Guard officials said. The boat was carrying 22 people, 15 of whom were successfully rescued, the youngest of whom was a 1-year-old child.

The Italian Coast Guard told TIME in a statement that a 56-meter yacht named Bayesian that was flying the U.K. flag sank around 5 a.m. local time following a violent storm.

Italian media reported that the yacht was struck by a waterspout, a miniature version of a tornado, during the storm, causing the boat to capsize.

Of the 15 people rescued, eight were transferred to local hospitals, including the 1-year old child. So far, they are all reported to be in stable condition, according to Italian media .

Specialist divers are now attempting to inspect the shipwreck for bodies, which is located at a depth of approximately 160 feet. A helicopter is also on the scene to help search the surface for survivors, according to the BBC . The public prosecutor in the Italian city of Termini Imerese has opened an investigation into the incident. The yacht was built in 2008 by the Italian shipmaker Perini, according to the website Yacht Charter Fleet . It was designed to carry up to 12 passengers and 10 crew members. The vessel was capable of reaching speeds of up to 15 knots and comfortably cruising at speeds of 12 knots. The ship had set sail from the Italian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14 and was headed toward another Sicilian port called Bagheria, where it was expected to arrive on Sep. 18 according to the website Vessel Finder .

At Least 1 Dead and 6 Missing After Yacht Sinks Off Sicily

Fifteen other people were rescued after the vessel went down in a storm. Expert divers were called in to carry out search operations in the deep water. Among the missing was a British software mogul.

Several boats including coast guard vessels near each other at sea.

By Elisabetta Povoledo

At least one person was killed and six others, including a British software mogul, were missing on Monday after a sailing yacht carrying 22 people sank during a violent storm off the coast of Sicily, Italian officials said.

The yacht sank after a storm “with strong winds” struck around 5 a.m., according to Luciano Pischedda, the Italian Coast Guard official overseeing the rescue operations. The vessel had been anchored about a half-mile off Porticello, about 12 miles east of the Sicilian capital, Palermo.

Camper & Nicholsons, managers of the sailing yacht, said in an emailed statement that there were 12 guests and 10 crew onboard.

The authorities have yet to determine what caused the yacht to sink. “This will be ascertained later,” Mr. Pischedda said, adding that several crew members were in the hospital and had not spoken to investigators.

Among the dead and missing, four were British, two were American, and one was a man with dual citizenship from Canada and Antigua, he said.

One of those unaccounted for is Mike Lynch, a British software mogul who was acquitted in the United States in June of fraud, according to a person with knowledge of the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about it.

His wife, Angela Bacares, was rescued. Mr. Lynch, who once was described as Britain’s Bill Gates, had fought for more than a decade against accusations that he had defrauded Hewlett-Packard when he sold it his company, Autonomy, for $11 billion. The legal battle represented one of the biggest fraud cases in Silicon Valley history.

Salvatore Cocina, a top official with Sicily’s civil protection agency, said that Mr. Lynch’s daughter, Hannah Lynch, was also among the missing. All were passengers on the yacht, the Coast Guard said.

Mr. Cocina said the body that had been recovered was that of the yacht’s cook.

A passenger ship sailing under the flag of the Netherlands, the Sir Robert Baden Powell, anchored nearby, provided immediate assistance to the 15 surviving passengers, Mr. Pischedda said.

Speaking to reporters in Sicily, Karsten Börner, the captain of the Sir Robert, said that his ship had to be steadied during what he described as a very strong gust. After the storm was over, “we noticed that the ship behind us was gone. We saw a red flare,” he said.

When he and a colleague went to check out the flare’s position, they spotted a life raft with 15 people, seven of whom were injured, including three who were badly hurt, he said. They were taken aboard the Sir Robert and Captain Börner contacted the Coast Guard, which brought the survivors to shore. Four Coast Guard ships, helicopters and other rescue vessels were at the scene into the evening.

Monday’s storm surprised experts with its intensity.

Col. Attilio Di Diodato, director of the Italian Air Force’s Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology, said the agency had registered intense lighting activity and strong gusts of wind in the area at the time of the accident.

“It was very intense and brief in duration,” he said of the storm. He could not rule out that it had been a waterspout, or small tornado, but nevertheless called it “an important event.”

Italy’s firefighter corps said that its divers had started carrying out a search and rescue mission at dawn.

Late Monday afternoon, expert divers with the firefighter corps arrived in Porticello to search the sunken vessel, which was under about 165 feet of water.

Operations at that depth, were “complicated,” and required specialized divers, said Luca Cari, a spokesman for the firefighters.

Fabio Cefalù, a fisherman in Porticello, told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he saw a waterspout — a sort of mini-tornado — that lasted “about 12 minutes” off the shore of Porticello shortly before 4 a.m.

Around 4:10, he said he saw a red flare go off “about 500 meters from the shore.” He said he waited for the weather to calm down, and went out about 20 minutes later to the site where the flare had gone off.

“We found only the cushions, and a few planks” floating in the water, he told the newspaper. There was no sign of the ship, and he immediately called the coast guard.

The boat, identified by Italian officials as the Bayesian, is an Italian-made 56-meter-long sailing yacht first launched in 2008, according to the website marinetraffic.com , which tracks ships. It sails under the flag of Britain, and was built by Perini Navi, an Italian luxury yacht maker.

Eight of the 15 passengers who were rescued were taken to hospitals in Palermo, the coast guard said. Camper & Nicholsons, the managers of the yacht, said its priority was to “provide all necessary support to the rescued passengers and crew.”

Giuseppe D’Agostino, the mayor of Santa Flavia, which includes Porticello, said the survivors would be cared for at a local hotel. The city had also brought them immediate necessities, like toiletries and clothes.

He said in a telephone interview that he had not spoken to the survivors since “they’re in shock.”

The youngest passenger onboard, a 1-year-old girl named Sophie, was taken to the Di Cristina hospital in Palermo with her mother, Charlotte, who had some scrapes and cuts, said Domenico Cipolla, director of the pediatric emergency room at the hospital.

Sophie’s father was in the hospital’s adult emergency room and had been in contact with his wife and daughter by phone, Dr. Cipolla said. He was not permitted to release the family’s surname. Both mother and child were in good condition apart from “great emotional stress” he added in a telephone interview.

“We’re comforting them more than curing them,” he said.

Michael J. de la Merced contributed reporting.

America's Cup Match Racing

Next week, when the 37 th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup kicks off in Barcelona with its opening ceremony, the contest that began in 1851 with a race around the Isle of Wight between the fastest British and American sloops (the yacht America won handily) will come back to Europe for the first time in 14 years.

The move to the Catalan capital from the 2021 event in New Zealand will make it more accessible to sailing fans in Europe, and even North Americans who want to view the fast, technical AC75 foiling boats in person. Barcelona has been preparing itself for a surge of spectators for the “return” of the Cup, which was held twice in Valencia, Spain, in the aughts.

The America’s Cup may be billed as “the race with no second place,” but it takes three months of racing and four events for one of five Challenger teams to win the Louis Vuitton Cup, and that winner will race Defender Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup final. The racing runs from August through October, and this year includes a first-time all-women’s America’s Cup as well as an event for the world’s best youth sailors.

Having Barcelona as a venue was a smart move, partly for the gorgeous beaches fronting the race course on the Med. But there is also the city’s magnificent architecture and sense of history as well as vibrant arts, culture and, of course, no shortage of Michelin-starred restaurants.

There are many five-star hotels in the area, but the smartest and most thrilling way to see racing is by water. The vessel options are wide-ranging—from weeklong superyacht charters to luxury suites on a cruise ships to day trips on sailboats with Michelin-starred cuisine. Many can be combined with on-land stays and even cruises to other parts of Spain as part of the itineraries.

One important note: Four zones adjoining the race course allow spectator boats. Before chartering a vessel, be sure to find out which zone the boat will operate in, because that impacts how close you are to the racing.

Here are 9 options to suit the most avid Cup aficionados or those visiting Barcelona who want to sip champagne and watch the AC75 foiling boats battle it out.

Superyacht ‘Resilience’

croatia yacht cruise 2024

Edmiston is offering charters aboard the 212-foot Resilience during the America’s Cup. The ISA-built superyacht, designed by Enrico Gobbi, features a mosaic-tiled pool, circular fire pit and a BBQ for a ringside lunch. Post-race pampering comes via the steam room, sundeck jacuzzi and gym, and there’s even a self-playing Edelweiss piano and projector for evening entertainment. The vessel sleeps 12 across seven cabins. From September 16, weekly charters start at about $645,000 (€600,000).

Explora Journeys

croatia yacht cruise 2024

The soon-to-be-launched Explora II looks very much like its sistership, the Explora I : onyx finishes, self-playing Steinways, on-deck Technogym bikes, a spa with a Himalayan salt room, Dunhill cigar den and a wine cellar boasting decades-old Chateau Latour. With 461 luxury suites, how was the Explora II chosen to become an America’s Cup viewing platform? The idea came from the top down.

“I love sailing and believe the Med is the most beautiful sea on earth,” Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the cruise division of MSC Group, told Robb Report during a visit aboard Explora I in Barcelona. “We thought if only our customers could also experience [the America’s Cup], we can call it the ocean state of mind.”

Explora II launches in mid-September, with itineraries planned to coincide with the different Cup events. On October 6, the vessel will be in port for the Louis Vuitton Cup Final and Puig Women’s Races. Guests can take a walk to the official race village and experience its excitement before watching the races from their suites. A 10-night journey starts from $5,210 per guest.

The Almanac Sailing Experience

croatia yacht cruise 2024

Barcelona’s Almanac hotel has a romantic-gastronomic experience that offers guests front-row seats on a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 sailboat with a capacity for 10 guests. Besides the racing, the package includes two nights at the hotel. The boat comes with the hotel’s branded slippers and Jimmy Boyd bespoke amenities. Enjoy a selection of customized Cava Bellinis from the pop-up bar. Chefs from the hotels’ restaurant will also serve up shrimp salad and fennel ceviche paired with organic Spanish wines. The boat can be chartered every Saturday from August 31 to October 26. The Louis Vuitton Cup round-robin starts on August 29 and lasts through Sept. 8. There’s also the Puig Women’s Race (first all-female America’s Cup in its 171-year history) and, of course, the America’s Cup finals in October. Prices start at $2,940 per couple.

Superyacht ‘C’

For a majestic week-long cruise that incorporates America’s Cup summer races and possible side itineraries in Costa Dorada, Sitges and Formentera, Camper & Nicholsons’ expansive 177-ft C is the flashy option, defined by Minotti furniture, lacquered panels and a hamman. It also sleeps 12 in six cabins that feature a master and two VIP suites. Its chase boat also offers a great opportunity for side trips. Weekly charters from Sept. 18-October 31 run from about $513,000 or €400,000.

Sailing Yacht ‘Imagine’

UK adventure specialists Pelorus offer a private seat on an elegant sailing boat seeped in America’s Cup history. Built in New Zealand by Alloy Yachts, Imagine is a 110-footer that served as an official viewing platform for the America’s Cup in Auckland, but it has also completed three global circumnavigations. Beyond its sailing chops, it’s a beautiful vessel, with a blonde, teak-lined deck, large salon and dining area, and three cabins for sleeping seven guests. It will be available from October 12 for the America’s Cup final. Pelorus is also offering to bookend the week with trips to Majorca and Ibiza. About $101,000 (£79,121)

Superyacht ‘Diane’

Also available from Edmiston, the 141-ft Diane can accommodate 10 guests in five staterooms for the week. The interior is all about soft hues, featuring cream leather and white marble, boasting a bar and plenty of outdoor seating for watching the races. For the non-race legs, guests can take to the water via the large beach club, complete with seabobs and wakeboards. It has a Balearics license, making a hop to Ibiza or Majorca a possibility. Weekly charter rates from September 23 run about $150,000 per week (€140,000)

Black Tomato Cup Package

Incorporating a city-stay, Black Tomato’s America’s Cup getaway includes a day’s private day charter to view the race, plus five nights at the Mandarin Oriental as well as visiting the regatta course and different bases of the America’s Cup teams for an insider’s look at the operations and technology. As a dayboat, its Bali Yacht Saxador 400 GTO can accommodate 11 guests. It sets sail from Port Olympic, giving guests a sweeping view of the city on one side and the regatta course on the other. The boat has access to the blue area (for preferred charter boats) on the front line. From $12,750 per person, based on two people.

Superyacht ‘Quasar’

Camper & Nicholsons recently introduced the 153-foot Quasar to the charter market and what a great way to end the Med season than by viewing the America’s Cup. It has six cabins (including two master suites) that can accommodate 12 guests, along excellent outdoor seating, an upper salon that joins the aft deck area for viewing the races or dining al-fresco. The beach club has a large selection of water toys. Visits to scenic Med ports around Barcelona are also possible on the week’s charter, which start at about $232,000 (€210,000).

Superyacht ‘Kiawah’

For front row seats on day charters in the blue zone (the third-closest area to the races), official charter partner ac37 Sailcharters offers different types of vessels and packages. The 110-foot Kiawah features a cocktail lunch on board, a specialized lecture from an expert sailor, and an AV system to follow the race in real time. From August 22 through October 11, daily rates are about $34,000 (€30,800) and during the America’s Cup finals October 12-27, rates move to about $41,000 (€37,400).

Though Robert dived head first, he ended up hitting the water on his back.

“He’s so crazy. Oh my God. Oh my God. Are you alright?” Drena, 56, asked her father once he resurfaced in the water.

The dad of seven replied, “I’m OK.”

Drena then told Robert he was “sick” and “crazy” for the epic leap.
