new 90m yacht

Oceanco’s new 90m/295ft dreamboat has been successfully delivered to her owners

new 90m yacht

Oceanco’s 90-meter motor yacht DreAMBoat is exactly what the name implies—the Owner’s dream yacht. The Owner stepped into the project at precisely the right time. With hull and superstructure already completed, he was able to save build and engineering time and still make the yacht his own. Oceanco began the yacht for a future client interested in the Oceanco pedigree and inherent ability to build an innovative yacht combined with the novelty of a first-time collaboration between two of the most renowned yacht designers in the superyacht world— Espen Øino International for the exterior and Terence Disdale Design for the interior.

The Owner was taken with the classic elegant and engaging exterior lines that would sustain a timeless appeal and found that the interior layout was perfectly suited to his intended use. The generous overhangs from the superstructure and cutouts in the bulwarks lend a traditional yet strong appearance. DreAMBoat boasts a full carbon canopy mast house and mast, which forms an integral part of the overall design.

“At the outset the exterior design was intended to be understated and timeless,” says exterior designer Espen Øino, “working closely with Oceanco all the primary surfaces and details were created keeping this in mind. The result is one I think we all can identify with. At the launch she came out of the facilities looking strong and proud with a lot of presence. The exterior deck areas flow seamlessly into the interior spaces maintaining continuity and consistency. The external decks offer a variety of living spaces and experiences with the sun deck probably being the biggest in its class with ample space for entertainment and lounging both in the shade and in the sun. The fixed and loose furniture as well as the upholstery and cushions all provide an inviting and harmonious ensemble which complement the external design of the yacht very well.”

At 2950GT, the volume allows for luxurious accommodation for up to 23 guests and a well-thought-out crew’s quarters for a maximum of 33 crewmembers. The design emphasis is on large windows that flood the interior with daylight and offer unspoiled views from the inside out. Outside spaces feature a large swimming pool 6m long X 3.1m wide X 1.44m deep on the main aft deck; an enormous partially enclosed sundeck; an area where the Owner and his family will most spend their time with Jacuzzi and copious options for seating/ entertaining with an outdoor open cinema. There is also a private jacuzzi on the Owner’s deck, a spa on the bridge deck aft with a custom-built hydro/massage bath and a large selection of water toys including a custom-built dive board. DreAMBoat has been built in harmony to accommodate family life.

Terence Disdale has created an interior that incorporates bespoke surfaces, natural wood, limestone floors, semi-precious stone vanities, parchment, leather and mother of pearl. The effect is elegant without being overdone.

“Following our successful collaboration with Oceanco designing the interior of Sunrays we were asked to become involved with DreAMBoat, says Terence Disdale of Terence Disdale Design. “The layout was construed along with my good friend Espen, who is responsible for the naval architecture and exterior design. Our interior design features many exotic finishes creating an harmonious and calm environment including surprise details to entertain the eye.” Disdale adds, “We always strive to avoid the “big wow” factor that soon becomes boring. We believe that DreAMBoat with her quietly sophisticated interior is indeed a future classic.”

Dan Jackson, the Owner’s representative remarked: “From the first time the Owner saw the boat, still in pink faring compound in the outfitting facility and met all involved in the project, he knew that the combination of Espen’s timeless exterior, Terence Disdale’s elegant and calming interior and Oceanco’s ability to deliver the boat on time and to the quality he required, was just right for him. So, after some minor enhancements made to suit him and his family, we got right into it and here we are, 18 months later, proud to be delivering him his DreAMBoat”.

The Owner is looking forward to a summer season of cruising with family—his children and grandchildren— as well as with friends. The large saloons, multiple dining areas, along with intimate lounging settings offer myriad possibilities for large and small groups to congregate making DreAMBoat ideal for a multigenerational group. A large variety of toys, tenders and audio/video appliances appeal to all ages.

DreAMBoat is an example of proven reliable technology, combined with state- of-the- art AV/IT infrastructure, including a complex IP ship’s computer operating system. She has been designed for efficiency on many fronts such as the installation of a heat recovery system for potable water. Moreover, she has achieved the ECO-IHM (inventory of hazardous materials) notation. This notation demonstrates an overall commitment to operating the vessel on an environmentally sound basis beyond statutory compliance.

“Delivering DreAMBoat is the ultimate milestone in Oceanco’s ethos of creating the Owners Perfect Yacht” says Roderick Gort, Project Director at Oceanco.

Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco has added a new 90m superyacht to its extensive catalogue of conceptual designs. Known as Cosmos , the project has been designed in collaboration with Miami-based designer Luiz de Basto, with naval architecture by BMT Nigel Gee. As with all Oceanco concepts, it is not only the aesthetical values and design capabilities of the shipyard which it represents, because the yard claims the design is technically viable.

While Cosmos is intrinsically different to those we’ve seen before from the shipyard, there are a number of design cues which are very noticeably of the Oceanco style, such as the bow, which features that trademark sharp concave profile found on yachts such as 91.5m M/Y Equanimity and 82m M/Y Alfa Nero . The hull, which was developed collaboratively with BMT Nigel Gee, is particularly well proportioned which gives the yacht a classical element, until that is we take into consideration the upper deck.

The glass-domed atrium effect that has been used to a less dramatic degree on yachts such as 141m M/Y Yas , Cosmos ’ vast dome upper deck is certainly something we haven’t really seen to this extent before in a serious superyacht concept. And while the idea does take a bit of time to get used to, the result is truly spectacular, and demonstrates a completely new approach to an upper deck arrangement, especially from the interior perspective.

According to the shipyard, the idea behind Cosmos is to have a yacht where you can be in touch with, and enjoy your surroundings, yet still be in a controlled environment, which led to the creation of the covered dome upper deck. “This provides an interesting tension between being adventurous and being safe,” says de Basto. “The glass dome, while it looks simple, is extremely complex,” he explains.

The actual construction process would likely present numerous challenges, such as the double curvature of glass, and the sheer size of the panes used in the project. Furthermore, the movement of the glass and the structure will present its own conundrums.

But while there are potential challenges in the construction of the glass dome, Oceanco’s technical department has deemed the project feasible with current technology. “Five years ago this boat would have been impossible to build, but now glass technology and structural design allows us to do so,” explains de Basto.

While the yacht may not be to everyone’s tastes, Cosmos is a real demonstration of innovation in design, in a way which enhances more than just the yacht’s aesthetics. The spectacular uninterrupted views from the top-deck is something anyone can appreciate and in this case, Oceanco and de Basto have pushed the boundaries by creating a challenging design which is all in favour of the lifestyle on board.

Zuccon SuperYacht Design , the new brand of Zuccon International Project , focusing on the research and development of new maxi yacht projects, announced its new project: the 90m Luxury SuperYacht.  The new 90m ZSYD Yacht Project boasts simple lines and high priority to external spaces.

90m ZSYD yacht project

New 90m Zuccon SuperYacht Design yacht project

The new superyacht concept 90M/SYD has been realized personally by Bernardo Zuccon, responsible for the  Zuccon SYD together with his sister Martina, and is characterized by a very distinctive pattern, strongly architectural, focused on vertical surfaces and limited to a few essential drawing, resulting in a yacht with a sharp and captivating design. From a functional point of view, great attention has been given to the external spaces’ equipment, both in the  common and the owner’s areas. Moreover, setting up the green areas as greenhouses and winter gardens, adds a further distinctive and singular touch.

The 90M/SYD is a MotorYacht 90m long and 13,50 m large, with a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. From a distributive point of view there are several distinguishing solution to point out. The four decks, along with the Sun Deck, are all connected with central large stairs and elevator. Comparing to other projects the Lobby here take on great importance through a double height effect, that gives a strong scenic impact.

ZSYD yacht concept 90m

In the lower deck the transom door could be opened in three different section, for the maximum functional flexibility, and gives access to an ample beach club, directly connected to the lobby by a hallway  that goes through the garage and the engine room. The remaining deck is dedicated to the crew, with the exception of the Jolly area, which can be used either as a Cinema, Fitness room or a Spa.

On the main deck the traditional cockpit conception has been abandoned. The cockpit turns into an entrance gate while the guest’s external living area has been moved on the upper deck for a highest privacy.  The main deck is entirely dedicated to the guests: a first wide living zone has been divided in three portions: a formal living one, a cinema and a bar area with two balconies. In this latter zone a great double height links optically the main deck with superior. Beyond the living area are four double cabins and two VIP cabins provided with a balcony.

On the upper deck the external space becomes the focal point of the life onboard. A clever system of sliding glass-walls allows to transform the inner dining area into an outside dining area (patio), creating a unique setting that includes the big swimming pool and the  large sunbathing area. On this deck also took place the cockpit along with the Owner’s cabin and studio, while on the aft part are the helipad and another relax sitting area with sunbeds and sofas.

Going up there is the deck entirely dedicated to the owner, with a studio, spa, two large terrace (on the stern one, on the aft the other) as well as a huge fitness area, adjusted so to be used also from the other guests.

Accordingly to the planning principles, the Sun deck is completely open and equipped with a Spa Pool, a lunch area and an ample sunbathing surface.

Bernardo Zuccon: the designer comment

In the  history of the Studio Zuccon, My 90 mt represents a significant transition since it is the very first concept elaborated by ZSYD, Zuccon Super Yacht Design , the new Brand from Zuccon International Project;  the new division will be entirely dedicated both to the research and the development of new maxi yacht’s projects.

The language is based on the belief that complexity and success of a ‘maxi’ product lays on the concept of ‘ Timeless ’ , that is conceiving a product whose image could be strengthen up in time through a peculiar and unique characterization in term of style, typology and functionality.

Having this feedback in mind, the 90 mt has been marked out  by using a formal language, minimal and rigorous, defined by a large surface, vertically developed, that ‘embraces’ the volumes  through its transversal section, while, at the same time, it allows to spot immediately the vertical distribution system, thus standing as a formal breaking point in the articulation of the horizontal volumes that defines the bridges.

What truly characterizes this vessel is for sure the sense of motion given by this specific surface, that tends to ‘close up’ the whole ship, moving on high; a double heights system in the Lobbies area make it possible to appreciate this feature also from the interiors.

ZSYD luxury yacht concept

In terms of balancing and functionality, the layout shows clearly how the integration between external and internal lays the foundation for all the living-areas; in comparison to more traditional solutions adopted on similar vessels, the exteriors gets a key role in defining the spaces allocation, coming at the point of physically  ‘entering’ into other volumes. A clear example is the use of teak in the dining area on the upper deck: a clever system of sliding glass-walls allows to transform this room from a inner-formal into an outside-informal dining area.

This concept gets an additional validation also with the confirmation of the green theme, already experimented on other concept, and here brought back as a main architectural element. Greenhouse and green walls blends in the space that becomes a unicum between matter and nature.

The aft part of the upper deck is surely another characterizing element, where the most part of the outdoor activities takes place, thanks both to the abundance of space and the large swimming pool.

The main deck is organized with a double living room and, moving towards the bow area, the guest cabins with a common parlor and two terrace.

While the main and upper deck has been planned to welcome both the host and the cockpit, while a full deck entirely dedicated to the Owner,  to grant him all the privacy one could desire;  two large terrace and a gym/spa area complete the whole package.

Another distinguishing aspect, inspired by studies on other living solution, is the theme of spatial integration between the bridges’ common area;  wide double heights allows to unify optically and physically the bridges, offering potential new opportunities to conceive the space.

Having perfectly clear the importance of the external spaces, the sun deck represents, for its configuration, a key point in the layout definition: its great dimension make it possible for guests and Owner to have a comfortable terrace also on the vessel’s highest point.

Proving signs of an image that is recognizable, timeless, well balanced in the relationship between hull’s and superstructure’s volumes,  as well as in the stylistic and distributive internal solutions, while, at the same time, proving to be a perfect answer to the market’s needs.

The product has to be open towards the ultimate technological updates that brings up new and different  opportunities for the onboard life, together with new challenges for the ship owner, although never missing the bond with the sea’s true nature.

SYD mission is very precise: fully commit all the experience and kow-how gained through the years, dealing with Italian and International shipyards. The new brand ZSYD (SuperYachtDesign) unifies under a simple structure two maun values: continuity and innovation.

Zuccon SuperYacht Design (ZSYD)

Zuccon SuperYacht Design (ZSYD) is the new brand entirely dedicated to the research and the development of new maxi yachts  projects. ZSYD was launched in 2013 by Zuccon International Project the highly skilled multidisciplinary architecture and industrial design studio founded in Rome in 1972 by the architects Gianni Zuccon and his wife Paola Galeazzi. Active in various sectors, designs for offices , residential architecture. Especially in the yacht industry they are considered a leading international design firm. Today, they are working extensively with five of the eight brands of the Ferretti Group.

Tommaso Spadolini reveals new 90m yacht design: elegance, technology and privacy

  • Alessio Molla
  • January 21, 2023

Tommaso Spadolini has unveiled the first details of a true floating masterpiece: a 90-metre sports superyacht with very distinctive lines resulting from a joint collaboration with the owner that led to an interior configuration and exterior styling that guarantee high levels of usability.

“ We have worked closely with the owner and his representatives to create a really head-turning design that responds to his three key requirements without sacrificing one iota of practicality – stated Tommaso Spadolini – Capable of speeds around 20 knots, this superyacht had to have the external form of a fast boat: something we have achieved with the strongly curved lines that dip towards the stern. Then we have emphasized proximity to the water by creating a lot of focus around the two-deck beach club and using lots of glass. The internal configuration of the boat has been carefully studied to create the maximum privacy for the owner ”.

Tommaso Spadolini 90 metri concept

Fast lines were a key part of the brief, and from the first hand-drawn sketches, Spadolini conceived a powerful shear for the main deck, emphasized by two strong convex lines for the owner’s and upper decks. The necessary straight lines for bulwarks and decks are cleverly concealed by powerful, flowing curves that peak amidships before sweeping down towards the generous beach club.

The brief required two further key features: the design of the yacht should give guests the sense that they are in close contact with the sea. And it should enable the owner to maintain a high degree of privacy from other guests and crew.

At 90 metres long, Tommaso Spadolini’s design is distinguished by a large beach club area in the stern which, arranged over the lower and main decks, includes a 150 sq. m lounge area with twin fold-down balconies, a gym and bar, a sauna, massage and relaxation area. The bathing platform itself amounts to 65 sq. m and the main aft cockpit above fills another 150 sq. m, flooded with natural light thanks to the shorter overhangs of the deck above.

90 metri concept

The beach club also includes an infinity pool measuring 7 x 3m with a glazed bottom, suspended over the bathing platform, offering a unique view of the horizon. The connection to the water is further emphasized by the balconies outside the sliding doors of the upper lounge. The use of glass throughout the main and upper decks with full-height windows is also distinctive.

Attention to privacy was another of the key demands from the outset of this project, and Tommaso Spadolini has made every effort to meet this need, creating a dedicated owner’s deck and closely controlling access via stairs and lift. There are dedicated his n’ hers bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, a wine cellar, and smoking room with humidor.

“ Discretion and privacy were a big part of the brief – explained Spadolini – We have developed enclosed structures for the stairs and separate crew access so that the owner can be completely cocooned on demand. Sound absorbing materials would be used in doors and bulkheads to ensure total confidentiality, without compromising on the really lavish series of private spaces.”

Tommaso Spadolini 90 metri 1

An outdoor lounge area and a saloon with a swimming pool in the bow complete the layout of the owner’s deck, the atrium of which can be delimited with specially insulated doors to prevent access to the owner’s flats and ensure maximum privacy. With regard to the cabins, it is impossible not to underline the size of the owner’s suite, which features a large bed with a 270-degree view towards the bow and a private lounge area.

The bow area also features six spacious guest cabins, including two VIP cabins. Forward again, there is room for a huge toy garage, which runs to a jet tender and multiple jet skis. The main tender garage can accommodate a 9m boat. A lounge area and a Jacuzzi are located aft, where several options for outdoor entertaining have been developed, including a barbecue area and an outdoor dining table.

Tommaso Spadolini’s design is a perfect combination of elegance and technology, with a focus on privacy and connection to the sea. Once completed, this 90-metre yacht will undoubtedly be a jewel that, whether at sea in the waves or in harbour, will be able to stand out.

“ We have spent many hundreds of hours refining the design of this yacht ,” said Spadolini. “ It is now ready to move to the next engineering stage. Though we are currently studying some larger designs for potential clients, this is the biggest yacht we have brought to such a stage of detail. It is very dear to me, like a member of the family.”

Yacht Sank in Sicily Due to ‘Endless Chain of Errors,' Ship Maker's Owner Speculates: ‘Everything Was Predictable’

"A series of activities should have been done to avoid finding oneself in that situation," argues Giovanni Costantino, who owns the firm that built the vessel in 2008

new 90m yacht

  • Giovanni Costantino — who is the CEO of The Italian Sea Group, the company that now owns Perini Navi, which built the  Bayesian  in 2008 — blames an "endless chain of errors" for the luxury yacht’s sinking on Monday, Aug. 19
  • "Everything was predictable. I have the weather charts in front of me here," Constantino told Italian newspaper  Corriere della Sera  of the storm the boat was caught in
  • "An unsinkable ship but from the crew an endless chain of errors," the CEO claimed to the outlet

The sinking of the luxury Bayesian  yacht off the coast of Sicily this week  resulted from an "endless chain of errors" by the crew, the ship maker's CEO is speculating.

"This episode sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," Giovanni Costantino — who leads The Italian Sea Group, the company that now owns Perini Navi, which built the  Bayesian  in 2008 — said,  according to CNN .

While speaking to  Italian newspaper  Corriere della Sera , Costantino said he believes those on board should not have been in their cabins, as he claims they were, when the Bayesian sank in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 19.

Many details of why the yacht went into the water so quickly remain unclear and it's not yet known what the passengers and crew were doing before tragedy struck.

The 183-foot British vessel sank around 5 a.m. local time on Monday after a "violent storm" while near Porticello, the Italian coast guard said in a statement that was previously obtained by PEOPLE.

"Everything that has been done reveals a very long sum of errors. The people should not have been in the cabins, the boat should not have been at anchor. And then why didn't the crew know about the incoming disturbance?" Costantino said in his interview, translated from Italian.

PERINI NAVI PRESS OFFICE/HANDOUT/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock

"The passengers reported an absurd thing, namely that the storm came unexpected, suddenly. It's not true. Everything was predictable. I have the weather charts in front of me here. Nothing came suddenly ... Ask yourself, why was no fisherman from Porticello out that night? A fisherman reads the weather conditions and a ship doesn't? The disturbance was fully readable in all the weather charts. One could not not know," he argued.

"An unsinkable ship but from the crew an endless chain of errors," the CEO asserted.

The coast guard has said 22 people were aboard the  Bayesian  when it sank — 12 passengers and 10 crew — and that 15 of those were subsequently rescued.

Costantino's comments came as it was reported that five bodies had been found in the search for the missing six people as of Wednesday, Aug. 21, a source close to the rescue operations confirmed to PEOPLE. Authorities have said that their work is ongoing.

An Italian government official, Massimo Mariani, reportedly named one of the dead as British tech tycoon Mike Lynch . The other bodies have not yet been publicly identified by authorities.

Lynch was celebrating with family and friends on the yacht following his acquittal in a fraud trial in June, PEOPLE previously reported.

Costantino offered his view of how the tragedy could have been avoided: "To begin with, in a weather alert situation it was inappropriate to have, as I read, a party. Not that evening. The hull and deck needed to be secured by closing all doors and hatches, after putting the guests at the ship's meeting point as per emergency procedure. Then start the engines and pull up the anchor or release it automatically, put the bow to the wind and lower the keel.

"The next morning they would have departed with zero damage."

When discussing whether the crew were at fault, Costantino reiterated to the Italian outlet that he believes "errors were made."

"A series of activities should have been done to avoid finding oneself in that situation," he said. "I as the ship's captain would have moved, but even if for some reason I had to stay there, I would have managed those weather conditions which then, let's face it, weren't so crazy."

Costantino contended that there would have been "a zero risk if the correct maneuvers had been made and if situations that compromised the ship's stability had not occurred," adding to the newspaper that reports that the boat went down in seconds is "nonsense." He believes the yacht would have "went down" after water "started to enter" within "six minutes."

The remaining missing  Bayesian  passengers are Lynch's daughter Hannah as well as Chairman of Morgan Stanley International  Jonathan Bloomer, his wife, Judy , and New York City-based lawyer  Christopher Morvillo and his wife, Neda , sources have said.

Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, was among those rescued, PEOPLE previously reported.

British tech ceo mike lynch’s body recovered from doomed bayesian yacht, daughter remains missing.

The body of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch was pulled from the wreckage of his $40 million yacht Thursday, as rescuers continue searching for his teenage daughter.

Previous Italian media reports said Lynch, 59, and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, had been found earlier in the rescue operation off the coast of Italy.

Italian fiirefighter divers bring ashore a body recovered from the Bayesian shipwreck in Porticello, Italy on Aug. 22, 2024.

However, the tech titan was found Thursday, three days after his British-flagged luxury ship sank off the coast of Italy during a violent storm, the Italian coast guard confirmed.

His body was brought to shore in a blue body bag and driven in an ambulance to a morgue in Palermo.

His daughter was the only one of six known killed in the tragedy yet to be found, a source close to the rescue operation told Reuters.

Rescue personnel transport a body bag containing the corpse of British entrepreneur Mike Lynch on Aug. 22, 2024.

Divers have been searching inside the hull of the sunken yacht over the past three days, though their mission has proven difficult due to the depth of the wreckage, at about 160 feet below the water. Because of that, divers can only stay underwater for 12 minutes at a time.

“We would need a crystal ball to know when we’ll be able to find the next body,” said Luca Cari, spokesperson for the fire rescue service.

“It’s very difficult to move inside the wreckage. Moving just 1 meter can take up to 24 hours,” Cari said.

Mike Lynch leaves the High Court in London on March 25, 2019.

The body of the on-ship chef, Ricardo Thomas, the first confirmed fatality, was discovered shortly after the Bayesian sank.

The others recovered have been confirmed to be New York City attorney Christopher Morvillo and his wife, Neda, as well as Morgan Stanley exec Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy,  the Guardian reported , citing divers quoted by Italian media.

Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, and 14 others — including a 1-year-old child — managed to escape the sinking ship before it capsized.

People embrace at the scene where a luxury yacht sank, off the coast of Porticello, near the Sicilian city of Palermo, Italy, on August 22, 2024.

Lynch had invited the group aboard his family’s yacht to celebrate his recent acquittal in a major US fraud trial. His guests included lawyers from the firm that represented him, as well as friends and allies who supported him through the legal battle.

The search for the sixth and final person missing continued Thursday, with officials determined to locate the missing teen by the end of the day.

“We are still working on it,” Giuseppe Petrone, the national director of Italy’s firefighting department divers, told the Guardian. “We should be able to recover the sixth body today.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

90m Voyager completes three year conversion

The 90 metre explorer Voyager has finally completed its conversion after three years in construction.

Previously known as Danah Voyager , the yacht arrived at Dania Cut, Florida in April 2016 to begin a three year conversion from a supply ship into an explorer superyacht. She now ranks as the largest superyacht conversion ever in the USA.

Originally built by US yard Swiftships and launched in 1997 as Candy Trader, her initial LOA was 63 metres when she first operated as a supply ship for commercial works. She was re-named HOS Trader in July 2003, when she was used as an offshore supply ship.

The first part of her conversion began in January 2015. This work included a redesign of her superstructure and lengthening of her hull, as well as a 12.12 metre mid-body extension. She now measures 91.4 metres. Other major steel work was also completed, when a larger bathing platform and helipad were added to the vessel. The work was undertaken by Gulf Islands Shipyards in Houma, Louisiana.

The hull of  Voyager  was then shipped to Fort Lauderdale, where fitting out was completed at Dania Cut. This included repowering and the installation of new generators.

The interiors were believed to be split between two separate contractors, with one working on the guest cabins and another dedicated to the crew quarters. The five-deck explorer has the capacity to house up to 70 crew.

Other key features include multiple galleys, pantries and media rooms, as well as a deep dive centre — one of the primary purposes of this explorer yacht.

At the bridge, a customised console designed by VMAG and manufactured by Radio Zeeland is fitted with touch screen technology, while multiple screens have glass insert panels, not just for improved aesthetics, but to enhance viewing angles and display readability. There is also a glass-touch switch that is integrated to several external components, such as tracking, radar, security cameras, fuel usage, bilge, for additional monitoring and control.

The conversion was project managed by Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) - the largest project in their 30-year history.  Kirilloff  and Associates was involved in the concept stages of the project.  Rafael Ochoa  provided the exterior styling in consultation with the owners and Kirilloff.

David Leone, President of VMAG said, "Very little was left untouched throughout the vessel, so it was crucial to manage each section of the refit, in the right order, to avoid any delays and additional costs. With our team of technical engineers, I knew we could accomplish this particularly complex project

"I am particularly proud to create the first ever entire superyacht vessel integration" he added. "This means that anywhere on the vessel there are access points that can monitor any type of activity, i.e. navigation, security, radar, engines, generators, power distribution, fuel, water etc., to enable the captain to have complete control of the vessel, whether he is at the helm, in the sun lounge or in his cabin."

Five bodies found inside superyacht that sank off Sicily

PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers recovered four bodies Wednesday from inside a superyacht that sank in a sudden storm off Sicily , Salvatore Cocina, director of the island's Civil Protection Agency, confirmed to NBC News.

Cocina later confirmed to Sky News that a fifth body had been found and was being brought to shore. One passenger remains missing.

The identities of the bodies were not immediately released. Their recovery follows a dayslong search in the deep waters off Italy where British tech tycoon Mike Lynch  and several others were believed to be trapped in the hull. Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived.

The rest had been missing since early Monday, when the Bayesian was caught in the storm anchored off the coast of Porticello, a village near the Sicilian capital city, Palermo.

The body of the ship’s cook, identified as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan national, was recovered Monday.

On Wednesday, NBC News witnessed what appeared to be at least three body bags being lifted from fire department boats after they pulled into port at Porticello. It was unclear whose bodies they were. Some were later transferred to ambulances and driven away from the dock.

Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda, are also missing.

Bayesian yacht accident in Sicily

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was among the survivors rescued by a nearby vessel after they got into a lifeboat.

Built by the Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered yacht could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist boating sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.

Regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” Lynch was  acquitted of fraud by a San Francisco jury this year, stemming from the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who brought Bloomer, who testified in his defense, and Morvillo, one of his U.S. lawyers, on the trip.

Lynch's co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain was not aboard the Bayesian, but in what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a  car struck and killed  him Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

Claudio Lavanga and Claudia Rizzo reported from Porticello. Henry Austin reported from London.

Mr. Lynch, the former chief executive of the software firm Autonomy, who was acquitted on fraud charges in June, was with friends and family when the yacht went down in a severe storm.

Mike Lynch, in a suit and carrying a leather briefcase, is walking toward a building.

By Michael J. de la Merced

Michael de la Merced reported on Mike Lynch’s career and legal battles over the course of 13 years across two continents.

A cruise on the Mediterranean Sea aboard a superyacht was supposed to be a celebratory event for the British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch , who was acquitted in June of fraud charges tied to the sale of his company, Autonomy, to the tech giant Hewlett-Packard.

Instead, it turned into a disaster after the yacht, a 180-foot boat called the Bayesian, sank off the coast of Sicily in a violent storm. Of the 22 people aboard, 15 were rescued, six bodies were recovered and one was still missing. Search operations at the site of the sunken yacht were continuing on Thursday.

Here’s what we know about the passengers.

Mike Lynch and his family

Mr. Lynch, 59, is a British software entrepreneur who had once been described as his country’s Bill Gates. He founded the software firm Autonomy, which analyzed clients’ unorganized data, and turned it into one of the most prominent British technology companies of its time. He became a widely known corporate leader, who advised David Cameron, the British prime minister at the time, and joined the board of the BBC.

In 2011, Mr. Lynch sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion, which was far above its market value, earning him hundreds of millions. But HP investors almost immediately soured on the transaction, and the American tech giant quickly fired its chief executive — and then Mr. Lynch.

HP later accused Mr. Lynch of misleading it about the state of Autonomy’s business, setting off a decade-long legal ordeal for the British executive, who denied the accusations. U.S. prosecutors charged him and other executives with fraud, and Autonomy’s chief financial officer was convicted in 2018.

Despite appeals to the British government, Mr. Lynch was extradited to the United States last year and was confined to a townhouse in San Francisco ahead of his criminal trial, which began in March. Facing the possibility of decades in prison if convicted, Mr. Lynch and another colleague were instead acquitted of all charges.

An official in Palermo, Sicily’s capital, said on Thursday that Mr. Lynch’s body had been recovered. His wife, Angela Bacares, 57, accompanied him on the yacht, and she was rescued on Monday when it sank. She was a consistent presence at his trial in the United States. Records show that she controlled Revtom, the company listed as the owner of the Bayesian.

Hannah Lynch, Mr. Lynch and Ms. Bacares’s 18-year-old daughter, was also on the yacht and remains missing.

The other guests

Jonathan Bloomer, 70, chair of Morgan Stanley’s international arm and the chairman of Hiscox, an insurance provider that trades on the London Stock Exchange, was on the yacht when it sank, along with his wife, Judy Bloomer, 71. Their bodies are thought to be among those recovered, but Italian authorities have not identified them.

Christopher J. Morvillo, 59, a New York-based partner at the international law firm Clifford Chance, was also on the yacht. A former federal prosecutor who comes from a family of prominent lawyers, Mr. Morvillo represented Mr. Lynch during his criminal trial in San Francisco. His wife, Neda, 57, was with him on the yacht. Their bodies are also assumed to be among those recovered.

“We are in shock and deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” a representative of Clifford Chance said in a statement.

Surviving passengers rescued from the yacht include Charlotte Golunski, a partner at Mr. Lynch’s venture firm, Invoke Capital; Ms. Golunski’s husband, James Emslie; and their one-year-old daughter Sophie. Also rescued were Ayla Ronald, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, and her partner, Matthew Fletcher.

The yacht had a crew of 10, and nine were rescued. The body of the chef, Recaldo Thomas, was recovered from the water, the Sicilian Civil Protection Department said.

Elisabetta Povoledo contributed reporting, and Kitty Bennett and Susan Campbell Beachy contributed research.

5th body recovered from Mike Lynch's family yacht off Sicily as questions mount over luxury vessel's sinking

By Anna Matranga

Updated on: August 22, 2024 / 10:48 AM EDT / CBS News

Rome — Divers recovered the body of a fifth victim of the Bayesian superyacht wreck Thursday morning, Sicily Civil Protection Chief Salvo Cocina confirmed to CBS News, and the Reuters news agency cited Italian Interior Ministry official Massimo Mariani as saying it was the body of Mike Lynch, the British tech magnate whose wife owned the vessel.

Italian Coast Guard spokesperson Vincenzo Zagarola told CBS News that teams were still working to recover the body of the sixth and final person left missing when the boat went down. The six bodies had remained stuck inside the 184-foot luxury yacht for days after it sank early Monday morning off the coast of Palermo, Sicily in a severe thunderstorm.

Four bodies were retrieved Wednesday from the Bayesian, which was resting on the seafloor at a 90 degree angle at a depth of over 160 feet. The vessel's position and items that moved around inside the ill-fated yacht made recovery efforts slow and hazardous.

Italian authorities have not officially identified the remains recovered from the Bayesian, which belonged to Lynch's wife Angela Bacares. She was among the 15 people who managed to escape from the boat as it sank quickly on Monday morning, but Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among those left missing.

ITALY-MARITIME-ACCIDENT-BRITAIN

Another victim, the Bayesian superyacht's chef, was found dead soon after the boat capsized.

Along with Lynch and his daughter, the technology mogul's American lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda, and British banker Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, were believed to have been trapped in the yacht when it sank.

Questions as to how the state-of-the-art boat could have gone down so quickly have mounted steadily since the accident.

Italian media were reporting Thursday that, after questioning survivors and witnesses, Italian prosecutors had opened an official investigation into a possible "culpable shipwreck." No individuals had been named as potential suspects.

On Thursday, Giovanni Costantino, head of the Italian Sea Group, which owns the company Perini Navi, which built the Bayesian in 2008, blamed human error.

"A Perini ship resisted Hurricane Katrina, a Category 5 [hurricane]. Does it seem to you that it can't resist a tornado from here?" he remarked to the newspaper Corriere della Sera. "It is good practice when the ship is at anchor to have a guard on the bridge, and if there was one he could not have failed to see the storm coming. Instead, it took on water with the guests still in the cabin. ... They ended up in a trap, those poor people ended up like mice."

bayesian-yacht.jpg

One possible factor could have been that the ship's keel — a fin-like structure that sticks out from the bottom of the boat, designed to provide stability and counterweight to the huge mast — was not fully deployed. The yacht had a retractable keel that could be raised for entry into shallow harbors. But a raised keel at sea would have made the ship much more vulnerable to instability in the strong winds that struck early Monday morning.

When asked whether divers had seen the ship's keel in a raised position, a spokesman for the Italian Coast Guard told CBS News that only the prosecutor investigating the incident could confirm such information but that the Coast Guard "was not denying" it.

The ship's captain, 51-year-old New Zealand national James Cutfileld, was questioned for two hours by prosecutors on Thursday, according to Italian media.

Attorney With Litchfield County Roots, Wife Missing After Yacht Capsizes In Italy: Reports

A New York attorney with Connecticut roots and his wife are among seven people missing after the yacht they were on capsized early this week in Italy, according to multiple reports.

Christopher Morvillo

new 90m yacht

Christopher Morvillo, age 59, who attended the Canterbury School in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and later Fordham University, along with his wife, Neda Morvillo, age 57, are among six people who are unaccounted after the 184-foot luxury yacht overturned off the coast of Sicily on Monday morning, Aug. 19, according to ABC 7.

Twenty-two people were on board the ship at the time of the incident near Palermo, according to the report.

The couple's bodies may still be on the boat, which rescuers have had a difficult time reaching, ABC 7 reports.

According to the Financial Times , the yacht is owned by a client of Morvillo's, British tycoon Mike Lynch.

Morvillo served as an assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1999 to 2005, having helped in the criminal investigation stemming from the 9/11 attacks, according to his bio on his firm's website.

Two months ago, Morvillo wrote a post on LinkedIn following an exoneration in a client. After congratulating multiple colleagues and team members, Morvillo thanks his family.

"And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo. None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home," said Morvillo, closing on an eerie note.

"And they all lived happily ever after…."
